Really nice, you created a circular link than I was trying to avoid: Fisher goes to Marten and Marten goes to Fisher.crib from web sources, it's not an animal I know myself. It looks as if we don't have an expert on Mustelidae - like Tmespit I got drawn into these pages because I was linking into them from elsewhere and I found a mess (I'm still trying to knock some sense into genus Mustela, and it will be a while before I have time to deal with the whole of Martes). seglea 07:55, 22 Mar 2004 (UTC)

OK, I have created Fisher (biology) and fixed all the links I can find, so there should be no circle any longer. seglea 18:55, 22 Mar 2004 (UTC)
I moved Fisher (biology) to Fisher (animal). This follows the pattern established on other pages such as Badger (animal) Dsmdgold 03:42, 24 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hi. I'm not exactly sure how to make this change to the page regarding Martens.. but it says they are carnivores. But they are actually Omnivores. They eat blueberries, raspberries, and many other sweet, small fruits. I saw a video called Meet the Martens, which was distrubitedbuted by [1]. You can read more here: http://www.waol.com/pages/s61.html

Hope this helps.

Somebody posted out of place the phrase "they look cute, but dont be fooled." I got rid of it. Whoever did that, please don't do it again.

dgfhyounsfreggioftoyhykgfkuoho;p Where do they live? The entry isn't very in-depth.

they are not omnivores, they are carnivores. look in a science book and it will tell you that they are carnivores. that video you watched was a crock. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.234.69.108 (talk) 15:12, 8 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

New Wikiproject

edit

I wanted to make a wikiproject about ferrets and weasels but it became to small a range so i have made a bigger wikiprojects including all animals in the Musteloidea super family which include both ferrets and weasels and much similar animals. Support would be appreceated.

you can find it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Proposals#Weasels

i also made a little template for the project,

This article is within the scope of the Weasel WikiProject, a collaborative effort to improve Wikipedia's coverage of articles relating to Ferrets, Weasels, and other Weasel like friends. If you would like to participate, you can visit the project page, where you can join the project and see a list of open tasks.

I hope you like it.

This wikiproject is for the superfamily of Musteloidea which currently and surprisingly does not have an article yet. This superfamily includes ferrets and weasels and all of our other furry little weasel like friends. Please put your name on it so this article could have it's very own wikiproject outside of wikiproject animals.

Trade in fur

edit

It seems that the fur is still traded. (search on 'marten fur') We should note this. Cossaxx (talk) 18:07, 26 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Range Map

edit

While the ranges map was a good idea (and a clever piece of work combining the ranges from the 8 species- I wish I had a graphics program that could do this), there was no indication as to which colour(s) applied to each animal. I have made an attempt at this, but had difficulty coming up with sensible names for the various shades.

The Beech Marten's range overlaps with both the Yellow-throated Marten and the Sable. However, from the combined map, both overlap areas seem to have the same colour. Also, looking at the individual maps, the Sable's range overlaps that of the Yellow-throated Marten; but this isn't obvious from the combined map. Perhaps if the maps could be redone using different colours, we could have clear distinctions for all overlap areas. I don't know if there is anyway of clearly highlighting the Nilgiri's small range.

I wouldn't mind having a go myself, but my only graphics program is bitmap!Glevum (talk) 13:22, 17 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Size

edit

Can we put more details about the size of the species (male and female) into the description? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.146.144.86 (talk) 20:25, 10 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

martens are not always solitary

edit

i know this for a physical fact, as one of the 2, or perhaps it is even 3 its hard to tell as theyr really fast scampering around, well, they like grapes, among other things, and as the one was grabbing another grape, the 2nd leaped behind it and the first jumped into my lap and then off into the trees after getting 'goosed', if yu haven't been pounced-upon by a marten... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.146.43.46 (talk) 22:04, 4 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
