Work on article

edit

I am currently working on this article trying to raise the quality of it. I'm using List of counties in Kentucky as a guide which is currently a Featured List candidate. I've got the easy part done, now to try and find where the names come from. Any help would be appreciated.↔NMajdantalk 21:01, 27 February 2007 (UTC) _____________________________________________________________ July 12, 2016Reply

The list shows McClain County's origin as "Choctaw land." Here is an excerpt from the article on Purcell, Oklahoma, the county seat of McClain Co.: “Located on the Canadian River, it was called the ‘Queen City of the Chickasaw Nation.’ In 1895, one of the five district courts of the Chickasaw Nation was located in Purcell . . .” One of these articles is wrong.

My grandmother was born in Purcell in 1888. Although she was enrolled as a Choctaw on the Dawes Rolls, we have always understood that she was born in the Chickasaw Nation. I think the origin of McClain Co. in the article is incorrect.

Old-time newspaper editors have always believed in the maxim that if you don’t get the little things right readers won’t believe you on the big things.

Government

edit

Somewhere in wikipedia an article or section should cover the strange? county government in Okla. Each count is divide into 3 districts, each run independently by an elected Commissioner.Jimwelch (talk) 18:14, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Table issues?

edit

I'm only somewhat familiar with the mechanics of tables, but it appears that something in the code is throwing off the sorting - several tiny counties appear above Oklahoma County when I attempt to sort by population. Anyone know the solution? Duncan1800 (talk) 21:17, 15 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Map Issues

edit

I cannot get into the map, but the links on the map for "AL", "BL", and "MA" all incorrectly link to Woods County. Please correct them to link to Alfalfa, Blaine, and Major Counties respectively.

Also, both Tillman and Tulsa Counties are abbreviated "TL." Tulsa should probably be changed to "TU." Tillman could be TL or TI.

Two letter codes

edit

Oklahoma is now putting two letter county codes on license plates. If we can find a source for them, we should probably use those. (McClain County's is ML, not MC, for example.) —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 04:09, 15 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
