Perry County

edit

Perry County seems to be missing from the list (FIPS 17145). Something needs to be checked/corrected. Qblik 22:23, 12 June 2007 (UTC) Actually, Pope County is missing as well. Qblik 22:28, 12 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

FIPS codes out of order due to sort order

edit

It appears that a number of the FIPS codes are shifted due to the sort order on the page. Specifically 37-39, 109-127, and 163-173. Per the cites already given and the links from the FIPS codes. 157.178.1.101 (talk) 17:55, 14 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oversight

edit

Don't know if this was deliberate vandalism or some some ignorant speculation, but it's kinda sad that it's sat here two years without anyone noticing. HuskyHuskie (talk) 05:47, 28 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Re: Douglas County and Lincoln, Lee County and Robert E Lee

edit

Douglas County was the last county to be organized (so far)in 1857. While Lincoln was no doubt well known in the state in 1857, he had been a Whig, and later a Republican, neither of which parties had ever had a majority in the General Assembly at that time. Douglas, on the other hand, had held several statewide offices, and was one of the principal leaders of his party, which had controlled state government pretty much since statehood. There have been (unsuccessful)proposals to create a new county from what is currently suburban Cook County, and name the resulting new county after Lincoln.

Lee County was named for Richard Lee, who was a fairly important historical figure in his own right. While, yes, Robert E Lee was related to him, it's rather a stretch. After all, the Confederate general also had family connections to George Washington, who also has an Illinois county named after him. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.212.80.149 (talk) 20:14, 7 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
