Talk:List of best-selling albums in the United States

ACDC... moved up a place

edit

I cite this article.. http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Music/06/08/music.acdc.reut/index.html I believe ACDC should be tied for number 5 with Billy Joel.

AC/DC "more Platinum" than shania twain

edit

Shouldn't AC/DC Be above Shania Twain, As She has 20x platinum, whereas AC/Dc have 21x?

Counting Error

edit

Why does it start again with "#1" after 4... shouldn't Billy Joel be #5? Seems like a simple enough error, and I'm going to change it, unless I'm totally missing something here...

Elton Joh

edit

Elton John's Greatest Hits album is here listed as a double album. Is this in reference to the later one which is a double album, or the 1975 album which is not? The link goes to the earlier, but the article seems to imply the latter.

The Ranking is misleading

edit

The 10 x Platinum albums, for example, are equivalent - the RIAA lists them alphabetically. But on this list, they are given rankings from #66 (Ace of Base) to #99 (*N Sync). All albums with the same sales should be listed as a group, e.g. 66-99. Maybe when I have time... NjtoTX 11 August 2006

Best Debut Album

edit

Guns N' Roses's Appetite for destruction sold over 20 million copie and should be higher up on the list and shoud be the best selling debut.. it even says so in there bio.

Best Selling Debut

edit

At the bottom, it lists Guns N' Roses' Appetite For Destruction as the best selling debut album (at 15X), but shouldn't it be Boston's eponymously titled debut (with 17X)?

Joshua Tree

edit

According to Wikipedia's list, U2's Joshua Tree was 16x platinum, but it was really only 10x platinum.

Genre error (I think)

edit

Near the bottem of this list, it has 'best selling CD by an alternative band' listed as Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd was (and is, for that matter) progressive/psychedelic rock. Wouldn't the best selling alternative album be The Joshua Tree, since U2 has no proper genre to describe them? I'm not sure though, and I'm sure it's disputed by fans... Any thoughts?

Journey

edit

Journey's greatest hits are listed as 10x platinum, but the billboard pop catalogue chart show it as 14x platinum. Huh?

Non-native English speaking artist

edit

Well, I do not really know the pertinence, anyway, of that information, but if you want to name the highest selling album by a non-native English speaking artist, it is not "The Sign" by Ace of Base (which is #67), but "Falling Into You" by Céline Dion (#54). Although Canadian, Dion is not "native English speaking", but rather native French speaking, since she comes from Québec, which is, as you may know, the only French speaking nation in the Americas. It is a fact easily corroborated when you listen to one of her interviews in English. tchlouis 18 March 2006

Chili Peppers

edit

hey, maybe i have a bias (im a fan of the chili peppers) but californication went 15xplatinum worldwide, andyone know what the u.s. number is?

I believe that they sold 5 million Californication albums in the U.S. Scrumshus

PEARL JAM sold a lot more than Nirvana

edit

According to RIAA PEARL JAM sold 12 millions of TEN and Nirvana 10 millions of Nevermind, so PEARL JAM is the best selling grunge and alternative rock. Please, reviews and correct your artciles.

Linkin Park

edit

Typo on the list - Hybrid Theory was 10x platinum, not 19 (place no. 78). The List is missing - Linkin Park Meteora 6x Platinum ( place no. 170 ).

Confusion on what is highest heav metal album

edit

It should be Led Zeppelin IV album instead of AC/DC Back in Black seeing as Led Zeppelin were considered Heavy Metal/Hard Rock whereas AC/CD are narlly always noted as being Hard Rock. SO that cnnot be corrct.

Fleetwood Mac

edit

What precisely does Best Overall Album mean and why does this honor go to Fleetwood Mac?

Christina Aguilera

edit

the debut album of Christina AGuilera is twice on the "chart"...

U2 "Rattle and Hum" appears 2 times as 5 and 6 times platinum

edit

That's not really good, is it?
