An interesting factoid I think should be included in this biography: Sen. Grimes suffered a stroke towards the end of the Johnson impeachment trial. Not only was he one of the seven Republicans to vote not guilty; recovering from his stroke, he had himself carried to the senate floor in order to vote for Johnson's acquittal.
