ECE vs World

edit

I note that my removal of ECE from the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations wikilink was reverted. I strongly disagree that ECE is necessary here. The regulatory framework is in use throughout much of the world aside from north america, and I believe that making the wikilink appear as ECE gives the incorrect impression that this is a Europe-specific set of rules, which ceased to be the case formally in 1995 and informally even earlier. --Athol Mullen (talk) 12:00, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

The text in question currently reads Both standards differ markedly from the ECE ("European") standards used in most other countries worldwide. How does this fail to convey exactly what you accurately say should be conveyed...? The text as you edited it read Both standards differ markedly from the World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations ("European") standards used in most other countries worldwide, which is awkward by dint of unnecessary length. Clicking the link, however the link is textually represented, takes one directly here. I really don't see the problem with the text as it currently stands. If I'm missing it, please help me to understand. Other articles have dealt with this issue with text along the lines of internationalised ECE ("European") regulations]; the present text in this article seems to me just a contextually-appropriate formatting variant of that. —Scheinwerfermann (talk) 19:52, 12 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
