Notes in Table

edit

Am I on my own in thinking that note-tags and caveats should only be in the list format, and not in the table? I think the table should be a clear display of who's-in-where and/or what positions qualify for where. If we start putting note-tags in it I think it'll look too busy and it'll lose it's purpose for being included along-side the main list.

In the main list we can put the notes etc for people who care enough to scroll past the opening table. If we put the note-tags and their related notes in the table, people will stall on that and start trying decypher it all amidst the table, whereas if we don't they'll see the listed section, scroll down to that and then have an easier time of understanding everything because it's written out. Aheyfromhome (talk) 19:01, 7 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. The table is to be a summary of the content, not a replacement of the content. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 19:18, 7 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

curr

edit

I don't know what the point of curr is in that table. It should be very simple: If they are not mathematically confirmed to be in the tournament, they should not be on the list at all. If they are mathematically confirmed, there is no need for curr. Nothing says we have to have it all up now, we can wait for the information. Sven Manguard Wha? 04:32, 22 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Totally agree with Sven; I hence have reverted the edits in question. Only mathematically confirmed information should be included. --Soccer-holicI hear voices in my head... 08:33, 22 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Something Wrong

edit

Something wrong about the Turkish clups.--VeszélyesElem (talk) 13:29, 11 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Where are the results??

edit

Whats wrong here, normally the results are present only minutes after the games have finished, now we cant even see the results of the 3rd qualifying round first leg games yet??!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.72.74.255 (talk) 11:46, 29 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

You are clearly viewing an old version of the page. The results have been up for ages. – PeeJay 12:12, 29 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

The association ranking table is wrong.

edit

Just check out this page with the official rankings http://kassiesa.home.xs4all.nl/bert/uefa/data/method4/crank2012.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.107.77.165 (talk) 01:42, 19 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Associations are allocated places according to their 2010 UEFA league coefficient, which takes into account their performance in European competitions from 2005–06 to 2009–10.

The map is wrong...

edit

The map is wrong. England is not the whole of the British Isles. This should be broken down into Wales, Scotland, England and Northern Ireland with the relevant number of teams allocated to each country. Please fix this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mecjmr (talkcontribs) 16:00, 15 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

You erase my teams map of the 2011-12 ucl for duplicate, but, the first one was worng, because the author put England like UK all, for that i make my own and corrected that. --Scoelho86 (talk) 00:15, 18 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yes I did erase it because
  1. it contained duplicate material
  2. it contained incorrect material too (the other map contained material related to countries in the playoffs)
I will remove it again. I suggest you fix the other map rather than create a new map with new errors.
Also, why are you coming to my talk page to discuss an issue that is related to a specific article? --Walter Görlitz (talk) 00:33, 18 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

ok, relax, i fixed the original map mistake. cheers--Scoelho86 (talk) 00:38, 18 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

You're telling me to relax? Get over yourself. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 00:43, 18 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

This edit has something to say: "Crimea is in Ukraine, not in Russia". Link were my addition. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:09, 19 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

UEFA members map is right? So all UEFA maps must be based on it. --46.173.64.104 (talk) 06:22, 19 October 2011 (UTC)File:UEFA_members.svgReply
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I'm sure that someone will fix the map soon, and possibly use your suggestion of starting with the UEFA_members.svg image, which I've modified so it doesn't display. However, that map has a larger scope. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:33, 19 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Also, Belgium is not indicated as a country with a representative. It has RC Genk, the Belgian champions in the group stage. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.123.8.147 (talk) 15:49, 16 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Top assists

edit

People should really check UEFA's statistics before they make any edits. For example, several people seem to think that Fernando Torres has 3 assists, while a simple look at UEFA's website will show that he has 2. Kaiser Torikka (talk) 14:03, 21 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Appearances

edit

I suggest, to keep in line with other Champions League articles since 2001–02 UEFA Champions League that feature appearances in the top goalscorers list, to have that in this article as well. Kaiser Torikka (talk) 16:06, 21 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

No. The standard goalscoring table includes four things: 1) rank, 2) player, 3) player's club, 4) goal scored. This is common in all league article and various club tournaments. The only reason the goalscoring table for the Champions League has the "minutes played" column is that it is necessary for ranking. That's it. Appearances are not necessary for ranking (UEFA doesn't use it), therefore there is no point in having it. Doesn't really matter if it was done in the past; things changes. Lyonnais vs. Madrid

edit

Anybody got any idea why in the Lyonnais vs. Madrid match Lyonnais played in their purple away shirts while the game was at home? - 85.151.236.44 (talk) 22:18, 2 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Colour scheme of Group Stage tables

edit

Shouldn't there be colors representing when teams have clinched first place (as well as advancement), when they are eliminated from potentially progressing to the UCL knockouts, when they are eliminated from all European competition (i.e., cannot progress to the Europa League via a third place finish), etc.? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.57.125.130 (talk) 12:56, 3 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

There should be for advancement, and there is.
There is no relegation so I don't think it's appropriate to show elimination. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 13:30, 3 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Group E after games of 23/11/2011

edit

I can't see what's wrong with this analyis so I've removed Bayer Leverkusen from qualified teams.--A bit iffy (talk) 22:48, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

In case Leverkusen looses and Valencia/Chelsea play a draw you have to look at the table without Genk... Leverkusen has two wins and two defeats = 6 points, Chelsea and Valencia both have one win, two draws, one defeat = 5 points each. So Leverkusen definitely advances to the next round!--Yohamez (talk) 22:59, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Oops, yes, sorry, didn't realise it was points between the teams concerned when they are equal in points in the whole group!--A bit iffy (talk) 23:09, 23 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
sorry, too. correct. i was wrong. the 3-way tiebreaker in case of a draw between valencia and chelsea sees
1 leverkusen 5-7 6pts
2 valencia 5-4 5pts
3 chelsea 4-3 5pts
(in case of 0-0 tie). interesting. even if chelsea tie valencia 0-0 winning the 2-way tiebreak against valencia, they will be in third place if leverkusen lose. so chelsea (in this case) not only mustn't lose, but need to win. if i'm correct now? 217.93.153.97 (talk) 00:06, 24 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yes, you are correct.

Updated map colour scheme?

edit

Now that the competition has reached the group stages, surely the map's purple denoting play-off teams should be removed? 84.93.163.100 (talk) 21:58, 6 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

One day is left. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 22:17, 6 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
To the fine man/woman that colors the map, Corsica is a part of France. That is the northern most large island to the west of the Italian mainland. General125 (talk) 14:34, 16 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
I have fixed the map, those who still doesn't see the update purge the image.

Teams Nomenclature

edit

I would just like to be informed what determined whether a team with a city which has a different name in their own language than in English, will be referred to with the city name of the language of origin or city name in english?

I understand why Moscow are being used since they are using a completely different alphabet and that AC Milan and Genoa CFC is actually called that for historical reasons even in Italy despite the cities being named Milano and Genova there, but what are the reason behind the following:

Use of the English name of the city: Bayern Munich (instead of München) F.C. Copenhagen (instead of København)

Use of the name of the city from the language of Origin: Napoli (instead of Naples) FC Köln (instead of Cologne) AS Roma (instead of Rome) Sevilla (instead of Seville) IFK Göteborg (instead of Gothenburg)

To me it seems that as long as a team is not from a country that has a completely different alphabet (and by that I do not mean only a few extra letters) or a club is actually named after the english name, the most common is to use the name of the city from the country of origin, but Bayern München and F.C. København seems to be an exception from this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Neberu (talkcontribs) 15:05, 3 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

We use the names that are commonly used in English-language media. There are exceptions to the logic of this, but it seems to be a system that works. For the most part. When people don't complain. – PeeJay 17:23, 3 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Berth in next UEFA Champions League

edit

Should it be mentioned that winning the tile earnes you a berth at the next Champions League?

"Chelsea won their first ever title after beating Bayern Munich 4–3 on penalties in the final. They earned a berth at the 2012 FIFA Club World Cup, 2012 UEFA Super Cup and 2012–13 UEFA Champions League."

What do you think?89.7.243.236 (talk) 20:08, 18 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
