Limestone is the third most common sedimentary rock on Earth. It is a biogenic sedimentary rock composed of calcium carbonate in the form of calcite (CaCO3) and sometimes aragonite (also CaCO3). Numerous named varieties of limestone exist. Many limestones are gray-colored with visible fossils and fossil fragments.
