It was used in the Romanian Cyrillic alphabet, where it represented the sounds [ɨn], [ɨm], and [ɨ] at the beginning of words. In the modern Romanian alphabet it is replaced by ⟨în⟩, ⟨îm⟩, or ⟨î⟩.
