Yūko Mizutani (水谷 優子, Mizutani Yūko, November 4, 1964 – May 17, 2016) was a Japanese actress, voice actress, narrator and singer from Ama District, Aichi.

CareerEdit

Throughout her life, she was attached to Production Baobab; she was attached to Aoni Production at the time of her death. Mizutani was best known for her roles of Sakiko Sakura in Chibi Maruko-chan, Mihoshi Kuramitsu in Tenchi Muyo!, Excellen Browning in Super Robot Wars, Sora Takenouchi in Digimon Adventure, Leina Stol in Machine Robo: Revenge of Cronos, Sarah Zabiarov and Cheimin Noa in Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and Pinoko in Black Jack. Mizutani was the official Japanese voice actress for Minnie Mouse from 1991 until her death;[1] she also voiced her in the Kingdom Hearts franchise.[2]

SakikoEdit

She voiced the role of Maruko's older sister in Chibi Maruko-chan in 1990, alongside co-stars Tarako (Momoko "Maruko" Sakura), Kei Tomiyama (Tomozo), Yūsaku Yara (Hiroshi), Teiyū Ichiryūsai (Sumire), Yūko Sasaki (Kotake), Naoko Watanabe (Tamae Honami), Masami Kikuchi (Kazuhiko Hanawa), Nobuo Tobita (Sueo Maruo) and Keiko Yamamoto (Shouta Yamada). In 1995, they reprised their roles until their deaths. Mizutani succumbed to Breast cancer in 2016, Tomiyama from Pancreatic cancer in 1995 before his role was taken over by Takeshi Aono who went on medical leave due to Aortic dissection in 2010 before Bin Shimada took over as her grandpa before Aono succumbed to brain hemorrhage in 2012.

MihoshiEdit

Mizutani was cast in 1995 as Tenchi Muyo!'s character Mihoshi Kuramitsu, a Galaxy Police detective, alongside co-stars Masaki Kajishima (Tenchi Masaki), Ai Orikasa (Ryoko), Yumi Takada (Ayeka Jurai), Chisa Yokoyama (Sasami Jurai), Etsuko Kozakura (Ryo-Ohki), Yuko Kobayashi (Washu Hakubi) and Yuri Amano (Kiyone Makibi), when it came to 1997 until 2014, she reprised her role as well, the sole exception being the Super Famicom from 1995. Her role was given to Michie Tomizawa in Ryo-Ohki 4.

Sora TakenouchiEdit

PinokoEdit

On December 21, 1993, she voiced Pinoko, Black Jack's loyal assistant/kind of adopted daughter, who was actually a Teratogenous Cystoma (a growth more commonly known as a teratoma) in Osamu Tezuka's Black Jack (OVA) alongside the title character's voice actor Akio Ōtsuka. In 2004, they reprised their roles in a TV series until 2011.

Personal lifeEdit

In November 1994, she married Mizuho Nishikubo until her death.

DeathEdit

On May 17, 2016, Mizutani died as a result of breast cancer. She was 51 years old at the time of her death.[3]
