Our collaborative article on Liu-Wang Liming was picked up by the press. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:45, 4 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Excellent, congrats!♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 18:49, 4 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Prize edit

I was thinking maybe we could develop some kind of a prize/award, styled after the one that Gerda gives out. It would be awarded by the original committee members of WikiProject Rosblofnari (Nvv, Dr.B, R). We'd need a subpage to the project page where we could discuss potential awardees and keep track of whom we give it to. Some ideas: the Ear Mountain Prize in Geography (article on an obscure geographic feature); the Liu-Wang Liming Prize in Women's Biographies (non-BLP); etc. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:59, 4 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sounds cool, but who would we give them to??♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 09:02, 7 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Boxes for Danish churches - proposal edit

As promised, I have now developed a possible box for Danish churches. You can see how it looks at User:Ipigott/Sandbox1 where I have entered data for Roholte Church. If you think it can be used as is, go ahead and update the article itself. If not, let me know how the items should be adapted, which should be deleted, etc.--Ipigott (talk) 08:37, 5 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Looks great, but you might want to sort out the double coord error thing.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 10:28, 5 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Now in Roholte Church. Anyone interested in using this approach for other Danish churches, especially those which already have boxes?--Ipigott (talk) 08:49, 6 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Nice infobox. Yes, we can use it if we do more articles on churches.--Nvvchar. 07:29, 8 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Not "if" but "when", I think! In the fairly near future, we'll be covering churches of interest on the island of Lolland.--Ipigott (talk) 08:19, 8 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Wallis & Futuna edit

We could really use some more images of it in the commons. Nvv can you ask for some photos?♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 18:40, 5 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Mata-Utu edit

I don't get why you're saying hard for x5 expansion, did you see how little prose it had originally? Surely it is a 5 times expansion by now?♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 09:02, 7 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Since before y'all stepped in May, the last edit was in March (past 10 days), 5x still has not been met, despite the article boasting 6440++ characters... ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 14:11, 7 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Per my edit counter, it was 684 ch on March 14, and it is now 6569 ch. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:26, 7 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes as I said, it passed x 5 expansion long ago.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 15:37, 7 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Nvvs says Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, Mata-Utu -Probably you could make it a double with Mata-Utu with a little more text.

I don't think there's enough text to write it into a full expansion, I suggest we let that one go.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 07:45, 8 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ownership of the photo is dubious, but it shouldn't affect the DYK going through if we don't use the picture, that's a wiki commons issue.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 14:53, 12 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

State highpoints edit

I have quite a few unused QPQ reviews and was looking at Template:U.S. State Highest Points, and most of the articles are fairly small, so I thought, is it worth creating a RBN sandbox for a "monuments" style hook, or would it be better just to have them all indivually?--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 16:35, 12 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Status for Bollyjeff edit

I am the main contributor on two articles now (actually three since Dwaipayanc added DDLJ) in the FAC watchlist here. First is Priyanka Chopra, which was last edited by Blofeld over a month ago, although he said he would get back to it. Now there is also Sholay, which Dwaipayanc thinks is ready to go. Would you like to look over these before they are nominated, or during? Which would you suggest to go forward first? BollyJeff | talk 12:42, 13 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I said I would get back to it yes, but if my annual subscription for Highbeam research, the main research tool I was using for the expansion work, has expired and I don't know when they'll restore it, how can I? Yes, I would like to look over Sholay first.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 20:59, 14 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I thought that you had already hit every section with expansion, but were going to come back and finalize the content and prose. For Sholay, how would you suggest that we get the English prose just right? I have not had great experiences with the GOCE so far? BollyJeff | talk 21:04, 14 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I wanted to further research 2005-2011 period before making a final copy edit. I'll take a look at Sholay later this week, it would be nice to collaborate in promoting it. ♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 21:14, 14 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I can tell that you already hit those sections, but what are you looking for? I still have highbeam. More books sources were used for Sholay. Please do have a look, thanks. BollyJeff | talk 21:20, 14 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Although I have not looked at the Chopra article recently, I have a feeling Sholay is overall more ready than Chopra. Regarding prose of Sholay, I don't have much to say since I don't enough enough experience/proficiency with prose quality.--Dwaipayan (talk) 21:33, 14 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Mining in Mongolia edit

If you wanted to go with a double-hook (or greater) for Mining in Mongolia, Windfall tax (Mongolia) is now at DYK length.

Did you know... that the 68% windfall tax on gold and copper mining in Mongolia was repealed in 2009?

Or something similar. --kelapstick(bainuu) 18:40, 13 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I think so. Dr. B and Rosie would be adding to the other articles as well.--Nvvchar. 11:54, 14 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
If you want to use one of the QPQs somewhere else you can substitute it with Template:Did you know nominations/List of international cricket centuries by Greg Chappell, I was in the process last night and waiting on a reply. I am also reviewing Template:Did you know nominations/Dorothea Trowbridge, so you could sub out the double for these two. --kelapstick(bainuu) 10:17, 17 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I am using the first QPQ.--Nvvchar. 14:18, 17 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

The second QPQ (Dorothea Trowbridge) is finished as well. If you want to use it for an upcoming DYK, go ahead. I highly doubt I will be submitting another any time soon. --kelapstick(bainuu) 21:03, 17 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

GA of the month edit

From June 2013, I propose that we vote for an article which we want to promote to GA and try to achieve 1 GA a month or every two months together, using a past DYK of ours which we think can be promoted without too much work on it. If you are not interested please explicitly say so.. The time duration for a proposal could last however long it takes to pass GA, so there's no pressure to literally pass one a month.

Good idea. Perhaps we should try to work on articles which coincide with the priorities/events/anniversaries of the month. For example, although it was not one of our DYKs, Zagreb, capital of Croatia, which is only Class C and has not received much attention over the past few years, could be brought up to GA or FA to coincide with Croatia's accession to the EU on July 1. Another opportunity would be to expand the biography of Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller who would have been 100 on 13 July 1913, first as a DYK (asap) and then as a GA or FA to coincide with his anniversary. He was certainly one of Denmark's most successful businessmen (if not *the* most successful) running Maersk since 1965. The English article is now just a stub but could quickly be expanded on the basis of the Danish and easily accessible news sources and obituaries. (He died only last year). I am of course open to other suggestions (such as the Panton Chair which Dr B. likes so much).--Ipigott (talk) 17:07, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I was thinking more of the articles we've already written together which need minimal work. Articles like Maersk I think would be hard to get into.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 18:29, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Votes for first collaboration edit

Maybe too large. But looks neat.

If you don't want to don't worry, admittedly I'm havnng doubts about the project at the moment and whether it's really worth putting in the time here when 90% of the website is of such a poor quality.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 21:34, 20 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I think it's worth it; it'd be no fun if everything was FA-standard. ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble ☯ 21:39, 20 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Let's give Varanasi a go at GA. No pressure to participate if someone doesn't want to. (Note to myself... there are long paragraphs... don't freak out... keep calm and carry on.) --Rosiestep (talk) 15:03, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

From my perspective I tend to look at daily page hits for articles and look at what is really important. I'd get more of a "buzz" out of having a GA on an article which gets 3-5 thousand hits daily rather than a one off DYK that appears for a few hours on the front page and gets 1500 hits then just 10 hits a day.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 09:18, 23 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • On the basis of all these comments, I strongly suggest Marrakesh. There have been substantial contributions by Dr. B, Rosiestep, Nvvchar and Ipigott, it was a DYK last November, it has some 2,000 page views a day and is currently Class B (and therefore probably therefore requires only minor improvements for GA, perhaps a bit more if we try to get it on the main page as FA). In addition, in June 2013 the city will be hosting the 7th World Environmental Education Congress with a closing dinner on 13 June to be hosted by Princess Lalla Hasna in the Badi Palace. By contrast, while Dr. B. has done a lot of work on Varanasi (which has about 2,500 page views a day), and Nvvchar has added a few passages on the landmarks, as far as I can see the others have not yet contributed. In conclusion, I think that as a team we should go for Marrakesh as soon as possible and go back to Varanasi later. As for my earlier suggestions, I'll try to work up Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller between now and 13 July (at least up to DYK). I know him quite well and it should therefore not be too difficult.--Ipigott (talk) 13:15, 23 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Dr. B, if you kindly see the history logs of Varanasi User:Calliopejen1 and myself did start on this article, as per your suggestion, but it faced lot of interference from many users from my country. Hence, please put a hat note for new users not to make any new additions. Same thing happened with Kathmandu also, when we gave up. I will again edit Varanasi but some of the references are not reliable. I would also support Marrakesh for GA--Nvvchar. 17:19, 23 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
I've been through the Varanasi article, mainly for copy-editing and references. If we're going for GA, then a lot more work will be needed on referencing. There are many sections/paragraphs of the text which have no inline refs. While the article is coming along very well, I think it might be useful to have more background on the pilgrimages (history, numbers involved, nature of visits, etc.) as they seem to represent an extremely important aspect of the city's development. Maybe Nvvchar could help by researching the Hindi literature? I also note the lead mentions the importance of music in Varanasi but this aspect is not very well developed in the article. Maybe it deserves a special section or subsection? Various music festivals are mentioned in the article but without many details. There's also quite a bit of background here. I hesitate to contribute myself at this stage as I really don't know the relative priorities. As for adding a "hat" to ward off unwanted editors, I think it might be better to leave it open for editing while carefully monitoring any additions. New users often make interesting contributions.--Ipigott (talk) 07:21, 24 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Well, Marrakech is written really, just needs a trim on the architecture.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 12:18, 24 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I see there's a recent unreferenced chunk in the hotels section. Don't know whether it is worthwhile. Also a few other unreferenced paras. Don't quite know what to do about the architecture: there's already quite a bit on the individual landmarks and in related articles. Any specific suggestions?--Ipigott (talk) 15:47, 25 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Marrakesh it is then. Sections just need a trim and the referencing needs improving, The hotels is fine, many hotels not covered in it, we need something on it I think.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 17:40, 25 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I added a food and beverage section. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:58, 1 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yikes check out the articles on the front page here. They typically look like this. We could translate a few of them..♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 11:28, 27 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

The Polish names are probably not the actual as they typically add superfluous letters in writing, but I copied the list here, with a bit of deciphering you could probably find the right articles. They mostly seem to be Spanish-world religious figures:

Krzysztofa Magallanes Jarę, Augustyna Caloca Cortésa, Józef María Robles Hurtado, Dawida Galván Bermúdeza, Justyna Orona Madrigala, Atilano Cruz Alvarado, Romana Adame Rosalesa, Juliusza Álvarez Mendozę, Piotra Esqueda Ramíreza, Trankwilina Ubiarco Roblesa, Januarego Sánchez Delgadillo, Józefa Izabel Flores Varela, Sabę Reyes Salazara, Turybiusza Romo Gonzáleza, Ludwika Batiz Sáinza, Emanuela Moralesa, Salwatora Lara Puente, Dawida Roldán Larę, Mateusza Correa Megallanesa, Michała de la Mora y de la Mora, Dawida Uribe Velasco, Margarito Flores Garcíę, Jezusa Méndez Montoyę, Rodryga Aguilar Alemána i Piotra Maldonado Lucero?

New proposals edit

Please feel free to comment at Wikipedia talk:Did you know and Wikipedia:Village pump (technical), they concern us.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 21:28, 27 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

One sorted, we have Wikipedia:WikiProject Denmark/Popular pages. Its a little out of date I think but not too bad. I suggest for our Denmark articles we pick the stub/start articles which are the most visited and aim to expand and DYK them although they'd naturally have to be the typical RBN type of articles, I can't imagine Nvv and Rosie wanting to expand Mads Mikkelsen for instance..

Mmm browsing through them I can find very few we'd probably be interested in expanding and are short enough to make a 5x expansion easy. Perhaps we should pass, just an idea..♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 21:33, 27 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Good idea, but I looked at those which are classified as stubs in the top 200 and for a variety of reasons, none seemed like a good fit for for RBN. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:33, 27 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes, that's what I said above! Maybe there's some further down, but they all seemed not our sort of articles or were too long to be an easy x5 expansion.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 10:50, 28 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Maybe not for RBN but I'll certainly have a go at Mads Mikkelsen for a start. I think Lego also deserves a clean-up. The problem with Vikings seems to be the need for more citations. With 19,000 page views a day, it certainly needs attention. Maybe I'll also post something on Wikipedia:WikiProject Denmark.--Ipigott (talk) 10:09, 30 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'd happily help, page view per day is motivating I think.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 10:21, 30 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Siskiyou Pass/Summit edit

@Nvvchar: & @Dr. Blofeld: Looking at this as closely as I can, I think Siskiyou Pass and Siskiyou Summit actually refer to the same place. The refs seem to say that the highest point has varied, being at one time along Highway 99 and later on I-5. I recommend merging Siskiyou Pass into Siskiyou Summit. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:05, 30 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Mmm, not sure, do what you think is best!♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 10:30, 30 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

My view is also to merge them. But I do not know how to go about it.--Nvvchar. 14:26, 30 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

If someone can find a reference to support "Siskiyou Pass was the highest point on Hwy 99 (or is the highest point on Route 273)", please add it to the Siskiyou Pass article. I'll look at it again tonight, too, but I couldn't find such a ref. Maybe retain the article but remove the "highest point" statement? If we opt for merging, as there were other contributors before we came along, it would be fitting to put a "propose merger" template on both the Siskiyou Pass and Siskiyou Summit articles for some period of time (a week? a month?) before doing the merger. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:35, 30 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Glad I changed my mind about the merge. They just needed some re-writing. Should be ok now. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:44, 1 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Historic agriculture edit

Watching some old films yesterday set in the late 19th century and it struck me how agriculture featured in a lot of them. It was extremely important to the development of America and most early settlers started plantations over there, yet I can't find much on it here. I think we need several articles on the early colonizers and the development of agriculture. I was thinking something like Early colonizers of the United States and agriculture, Agriculture in 17th-century America, Agriculture in 18th-century America, Agriculture in 19th-century America, Irish American development of agriculture, African Americans and agriculture in the 19th-century, Cotton production in the United States, Wheat production in the United States, Corn production in the United States something like that. What do you think?♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 10:25, 30 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

We already have History of agriculture in the United States. Why not start by improving the corresponding sections? I also note there is nothing in the article on vineyards or fruit growing, both increasingly important sectors of American agriculture as can be seen from American wine. There should also be an equivalent article on American horticulture. (BTW: I don't think they produce maize in the United States - they call it corn! And if you are referring to English corn, they call it wheat.)--Ipigott (talk) 11:22, 30 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I meant wheat and corn/maize! Well that's the main article it would make sense to have sub articles for the periods.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 11:43, 30 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Let's start with low-hanging fruit (lots of refs), Cotton production in the United States, Wheat production in the United States, Corn production in the United States, as these are important, missing articles which should get a lot of views once written. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:15, 30 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

OK but I'd like to see better coverage of the domestic practices of the early colonizers in the states of which we have very little about on here, nothing on the French plantations of Louisiana either.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 14:40, 30 May 2013 (UTC)..Reply

DYK edit

We might as well create a section recording the articles we have got to DYK. I shall make one at the bottom of the page.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 13:09, 31 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I don't think that's a good idea as we already have our own DYKs and often the A-Z list to update I don't want to have to keep updating a list here and have to paste in 3 different times. Feel free to add your User:Gilderien/DYK to the top of the page but I really don't want a central list! However if we simply list the DYK article names that would be OK, is that what you mean?. If you want to create a new section do so, but add a full list of DYKs created so far as Rosblofnari. Once that's done as articles are removed form the waiting queue as they go through they can be moved simply to the list of DYKs.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 15:56, 31 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

That's what I meant, and in fact I have already created a section à la the Good Articles. I thought it would be interesting to see how productive the group is in terms of GAs and DYKs. I added various ones created by a collaboration between any two of us because I'm not sure when RBN came into existence vs. when the page was created to make it official.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 16:04, 31 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
