Hi, just wanted to tell you that there is a mistake on Mohammed El moustaoui : the link leads to a runner... actually he is a proeminent writter in Tamazight whom I know personnaly. He wrote many songs interpreted by Ammour M'barek who was the forst to modernize the Amazigh music. Also, there are serious reasons to think that Cicero was of Amazigh descent : his name is still now pronounced by Russians & others as "Kikeron" & in Tamazight it is 'Ikikern, which means chickpeas. Other than that his parents used to rise horses as many Amazigh living in Rome where horse breeders.... I think one should at least mention this hypothesis. US accademic researchers have emitted such hypothesis as highly probable. All the best Stan Idelsen

Wikiproject Country Studies

I've been working on Wikipedia:WikiProject Library of Congress Country Studies, a Wikiproject designed to incorporate the Library of Congress Country Studies into Wikipedia. The whole information relating to Morocco represents a rewriting of history

Essentially by not including that what you dont want to remember. It is superficial at best, and criminaly dishonest at worst.

In relation to the article on Morocco:

It can be argued that the last 50 years in Morocco’s history have been the most relevant as it has become an independent country and has had a belligerent foreign policy with its neighbours, Algeria and western Sahara.

How come the only link to the green march is in the Geography section and is not mentioned in the history??? How come there is no link AT ALL in the article to the sand war

How come that the hundreds of victims of 30 years of repression are written of with a couple of lines: " Hassan II became King of Morocco on March 3, 1961. His rule would be marked by political unrest, and the ruthless government response earned the period the name "the years of lead"."

If you visit the article on Hassan II you get a little bit more of information, but why is this information not included in the main article about Morocco??? Is it only of interest to the personality of Hassan II??

Why is there no mention of the reasons for this political unrest, and the civil and student protest marches that were brutally dissolved by police? Why is there no mention of the extensive use of torture against dissidents? Why isn't there a reference to Tazmarat and other concentration camps to which these where sent?

One aspect of Moroccan torture is that the King is "the giver of light" so many of those imprisoned are submitted to entire years at a time without any light...

Even important aspects of its pre-independence history are ignored. From the ethnological map you can see that Morocco is mainly divided by Arabs in the Plains and Berebers in the mountains. For hundreds of years tribal relations prevailed and when there was disagreement conflict would arise, with a deadlock, as the mountains proved superb defence positions. It was only until the French arrived and set up an effective road system to move troops around, that the country could finally be ruled under one unified leadership.

Why is there no mention about this??

Conclusion

The rule under Hassan II was oppressive and repressive, he killed thousands for various reasons, and several attempts where made on his life, mainly from his own military. He started wars with Algeria when they where weak, just after their independence. He took over Western Sahara when Spain was weak, creating a conflict that is raging today.

That this dark history of modern Morocco is dispatched in the article with a couple of passing comments is shameful. We may have an excellent encyclopaedic article, but it is useless if it says nothing.

There are thousands of words to be written, but it seems that Hassan II has done a good job and the truth is buried and forgotten to the majority of its people and the international community. What will happen if I add this information to the page?? Will the Moroccan press (censorship) office come in and delete it?? I wouldn’t be surprised if this comment disappears on Monday.

• Your saying is too onesided. All countries/Chief of states have their dark sides.
• Make (constructive) suggestions for change / compeltion in this page and lets see
• Wikipedia is common work. The remark on Moroccan *censorichip* is just absurd.

Natural Wonders of Morocco

I tested Wikipedia's coverage of Natural Wonders of the World, and Morocco had the most missing articles besides Spain:

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. Marrakech sections

Hello,

I've noticed that the page on Marrakech could use some work. The biggest problem is the Sites section, which provides several lists, but no descriptions/explanations at all. Most of the things listed can be removed, and the ones that remain should be described and explained in detail.

I am not a member of this WikiProject, and don't know much about Morocco. If someone has the time and knows the correct information, please fix it up.

Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. List of countries by formation dates

Hello everyone! There is a discussion at List of countries by formation dates that concernes this wikiproject. It relates to the fact that some users include former colonies (such as Algeria or Western Sahara/Ifni) in the columm for the last territorial changes of their respective colonial power, and this because "formely" such colonies were considered "provinces". However, the Template:AfricaProject has recently had parameters put into it to allow it to provide separate assessments for all the "Africa" projects, including this one. Proposal to consolidate African country WikiProject banners

Template:AfricaProject was recently modified, and now contains individual parameters for all countries in Africa (see usage notes). Since project-specific assessment for all African countries can now be accomplished through the template, a proposal has been made at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Africa to consolidate all individual African country WikiProject banners.

Draft Guidelines for Lists of companies by country - Feedback Requested

Within WikiProject Companies I am trying to establish guidelines for all Lists of companies by country, the implementation of which would hopefully ensure a minimum quality standard and level of consistency across all of these related but currently disparate articles. The ultimate goal is the improvement of these articles to Featured List status. As a WikiProject that currently has one of these lists within your scope, I would really appreciate your feedback! Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

• The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
• The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
• A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. Maroc Cultures

We have a couple of mentions in articles of "Maroc Cultures", apparently AKA l’Association Maroc Cultures, apparently organizers of music festival Mawâzine Rythmes du Monde (Mawazine) http://www.mawazine.ma/ .
Their website indicates that they are "sous le haut patranage de sa majeste le roi Mohammed VI".

Hi. Over the last few days I have been adding the entries on Marinid dynasty emirs.

• Abu Thabit Amir (1307 - 1308)
• Abu al-Rabi Sulayman (1308 - 1310)
• Abu Said Uthman II (1310 - 1331)

I have relied primarily on only one source (Ch.Andre Julien, Histoire de l'Afrique du Nord, 1931 (1961 ed.)) to compose the entries, which is probably unsatisfactory. I would welcome review & corrections and additional sources.

I am also not an Arabic speaker, and have transliterated the Arabic spellings from the entries in the French wikipedia. I am not certain they are correct, and would welcome someone to double-check them.

Major, major cleanup needed at Muhammad ibn Abd al-Krim Al-Khattaby

1995 referendum

I've just created articles on all the national elections and referendums in Morocco (see {{Moroccan elections}}). However, I am slightly dubious about one of them. This page of the Parliament's website lists nine referendums, but none in 1995. However, lower down the page, it states that there was one held in 1995 to change the date of the Finance Act vote, thereby contradicting itself. Can anyone confirm which part of the page is correct? The Arbitration Committee is seeking to appoint additional people to the CheckUser and Oversight teams, in particular people with specialist knowledge.

Because of increasing activity in the South Asian, Southeast Asian, or Middle Eastern regions, CheckUser applications are particularly sought from people who not only meet our general requirements but also are familiar with the ISPs and typical editing patterns of any of these regions.

Successful candidates are likely to be regularly available and already familiar with local and global processes, policies, and guidelines especially those concerning CheckUser and Oversight. CheckUser candidates are expected to be technically proficient, and previous experience with OTRS is beneficial for Oversight candidates. All candidates must at least 18 years of age; have attained legal majority in their jurisdiction of residence; and be willing to identify to the Wikimedia Foundation prior to receiving permissions. Marrakesh Template

Hi. I've noticed that the Marrakesh template largely consists of red links. Some of these are due to little errors in the title used on the template, meaning they aren't being linked to existing articles (Badi Palace, instead of El Badi Palace). However, most of the red links are for landmarks or hotels that don't have articles and don't seem to be of any note. Are they really necessary? Pageview stats

After a recent request, I added WikiProject Morocco to the list of projects to compile monthly pageview stats for. The data is the same used by http://stats.grok.se/en/ but the program is different, and includes the aggregate views from all redirects to each page. The stats are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Morocco/Popular pages.

The page will be updated monthly with new data. The edits aren't marked as bot edits, so they will show up in watchlists. How do you properly spell Fes, in English?

Is this a question that keeps coming up? I'm a native English speaker (some french and Arabic) and I find Fez to be incorrect. The OED says otherwise, and recently, an editor has gone and made mass changes of Fes to Fez, in many articles. Comments? -Roxy the non edible dog™ (resonate) 09:43, 10 July 2015 (UTC)

We need an article Cannabis in Morocco

Hello, I'm working at WP:WikiProject Cannabis, and we're trying to expand our coverage of "Cannabis in (country)" articles, and I saw that we don't have one for Morocco. Morocco has had an interesting role in cannabis history, commercially, culturally, and legally (especially how they gradually illegalized the product, and how it moved from national to international prominence). Morocco is famous for hashish production, and allegedly it makes up 10% of the country's exports, though illegally. Having a strong and well-referenced article would help cut through rumors and myths about hashish in Morocco, and give readers more clear facts and context. We have some suggestions at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Cannabis#.22Cannabis_in_.28Country.29.22_articles_for_creation_and_expansion for how to help add more countries to our coverage; anyone here want to help out by covering Morocco? Help request: 100 Morocco-related articles needing geographical coordinates

Based on a search of Wikipedia's articles related to Morocco, I've found some articles that I believe are about places in Morocco, and could usefully have geographical coordinates added.

The articles in question are listed in Category:Morocco articles missing geocoordinate data. At the time of writing, some examples included:

1. Bou Regreg
2. El Jadida (province)
3. Iles Purpuraires
4. Moulay Yacoub Prefecture
5. Rabat-Fes expressway
6. Rabat-Salé-Zemmour-Zaer
7. Salle 11th November

...and there are many more, as well. At the time of posting this notice, there were 100 articles in this category needing geographical coordinates.

Why add coordinates?

By adding coordinates, a Wikipedia reader can easily view the location on a street map, nautical chart, topographic map, by satellite photo, realtime weather map, and in many other ways. Coordinate data makes an article eventually appear in various services such as Google Maps' Wikipedia overlay, Google Earth, and Wikipedia's own internal map service. Coordinate data also helps readers looking for geographically-based data, such as locations near a reference point, or related information.

How can I do it?

The articles are all marked with {{coord missing}} tags, which need to be replaced with {{coord}} tags that contain the location's latitude/longitude coordinates; or you might be able to add coordinates to an existing infobox. You can find out how to do this at the Wikipedia:Geocoding how-to for WikiProject members.

Mohammed VI of Morocco has no cites

I see that Mohammed VI of Morocco is tagged as "This biography of a living person does not cite any references or sources." That's pretty bad, folks.
Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons for any living person, but IMHO especially for a high public figure. "Be very firm about the use of high quality references. Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion." (bold in original).

Hi, new contributor here. I came across the Kenitra and Kénitra Province pages when looking for population data but they still have/had the old ones. I'm starting to update them according to the RGPH 2014 by the Haut Commissariat au Plan and the new regions from the 2015 decree. Any coordinated effort here ? WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

Wiki Indaba 2021 is a unique opportunity to come together to build the capacity of African Wikimedians both within the continent and the diaspora to foster the growth of the coverage and our involvement in Wikimedia projects.

The call for submissions is open, please submit your session proposal either as a presentation, panel discussion, lightning talk, or workshop before September 24th 2021.

User script to detect unreliable sources

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

• John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

• John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Request for comment on Si Kaddour Benghabrit

Hello, I'm in a longstanding editing conflict with a single editor @M.Bitton: over how the role of Si Kaddour Benghabrit in the Treaty of Fes should be covered in the article about him. Seeking to check Tifinagh (Amazigh) names of cities

I suppose this could be an informal request for comment, but I've posted a request at the Marrakesh article for editors who are literate enough in Tifinagh (Amazigh) writing to be able to verify the Tifinagh renditions of names in Moroccan city articles, or for sources that we can consult for the official names. See my comment at Talk:Marrakesh#Amazigh names need double-checking. Amazigh names are often the subject of POV-motivated and/or disruptive edits (both for or against) and it would help to have more certainty about this content, so these issues can be dealt with more easily and also to ensure accuracy in general. Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Women in Morocco

If anyone is able to look at Women in Morocco, that would be good. The current version has a fragmentary sentence in the first paragraph: "Others adhere to an Arabized and Islamic . Independence from France in 1956.". I can see there were significant changes to the first paragraph in this edit in 2022. I can also see that that that paragraph is sourced to a blog which does not look like a reliable source, and which does not reflect the current content in that paragraph. Women in Green's 5th Edit-a-thon

Hello WikiProject Morocco:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2023!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2023, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.
