My own idea. Personally, I'd prefer the Baltimore flag as the icon, but the issue below will have to be resolved first.-Jeff (talk) 02:18, 12 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Now that the flag issue has been resolved, here it is with the flag icon: -Jeff (talk) 17:22, 21 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I uploaded a new Baltimore Flag image, which I believe I have established is the public domain. So I tweeked the code of the proposed userbox.

Copyright status of city flag edit

The Baltimore flag icon was removed from the WPMD banner because someone claimed it was copyrighted. Is this correct? It's always been my understanding that flags, in general, are public domain (I can't imagine slapping a copyright on the flag of the United States for example). If my assumption is wrong and flags are indeed eligible for copyright, wouldn't this qualify as {{PD-old}} anyway?-Jeff (talk) 01:39, 12 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

It seems that this discussion is moot, a freely available version is at the commons.-Jeff (talk) 04:25, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Port of Baltimore edit

This was recently moved to its much longer official name. Wikipedia has a naming convention regarding the use of official names vs. common names saying that the common name should be used, does anyone else think it should be moved back?-Jeff (talk) 17:23, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Baltimorese user boxes edit

Since other cities and regions of the US have their own language userboxes, I decided to start working on some for Baltimorese. I have the text for each of the boxes at user:Jeff02/test page#Baltimorese_userboxes. If anyone likes them I'll go ahead and make the templates. Also, some help with my Baltimorese that I used in the messages would be helpful if anyone thinks I need some.-Jeff (talk) 04:38, 26 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Locust Point Neighborhood edit

I've made some significant improvements to Locust Point, Baltimore. I plan on adding some things to the history section. Any other suggestions?--Metal850 (talkcontribs) 20:36, 19 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Also I'm kinda new to this, I got a lot of my information from Locust Point Civic Association but I did send them an email asking for permission to use the info. Should I mention that? Does it matter?--Metal850 (talkcontribs) 20:40, 19 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for improving the Locust Point article. If a web page or publication of the Locust Point Civic Association was the source of your information, a reference would be appropriate, and the article needs to cite a few sources. As long as you're not reprinting or borrowing text (something we don't want to do in a Wikipedia article) from your source, it isn't necessary to ask for permission. Folklore1 (talk) 05:11, 22 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

After some references have been added to the article and a little more text is added to the history section, its class should be re-evaluated. It's already somewhat more than Stub level. Folklore1 (talk) 05:11, 22 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Renovating old article edit

I've been working on the Cardinal Gibbons School article for a few days now. I'm new to wikipedia. I graduated with the class of 2010, and have decided to spend a lot of my time renovating that article, since the school is now closed. I've been trying to get the page upgraded to at least a start article, and low importance in the Maryland Project. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated...what would need to be done to elevate the article even higher? 74.95.88.249 (talk) 16:08, 6 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Could the Cardinal Gibbons School article also be included in the Baltimore Task Force?Wberkey (talk) 17:35, 6 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

I've added the article to the Baltimore Task Force. Folklore1 (talk) 19:07, 21 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Baltimore GA nomination edit

After a lot of editing, I've renominated Baltimore for Good Article status. It needs a tough reviewer. Are you up to the challenge? Folklore1 (talk) 15:27, 6 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Failed review. The article still needs a lot of work before it's ready for GA. However, with the improvements it's had so far, perhaps it should be upgraded from C to B. Folklore1 (talk) 16:51, 11 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

GLAM Wiki events on July 22-23 in Baltimore's Mount Vernon Neighborhood edit

Join us at the Walters Art Museum on July 23
Please join us next weekend for GLAM Baltimore 2011 --- a series of two events organized by Baltimore Heritage on July 22-23 to build relationships between cultural heritage organizations, archives and museums and the Wikipedian community in Baltimore and Maryland. We'll start on Friday, July 22 with a happy hour at the Midtown Yacht Club in Baltimore's historic Mount Vernon neighborhoods. On the morning of Saturday, July 23, we'll meet at the Walters Art Museum for an introduction to GLAM Wiki partnerships around the country and break out into smaller groups to develop new ideas for projects we'd like to work on here in Baltimore.

You can sign up and find additional details on our meetup page or on the Baltimore Heritage website where you can also use a form to RSVP for the July 22 Happy Hour or the July 23 GLAM Wiki partnerships meeting. I hope you can join us! --Eli.pousson (talk) 20:08, 14 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

What is GLAM? Folklore1 (talk) 21:50, 23 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
Found the answer at your link. GLAM means "Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums". Folklore1 (talk) 21:52, 23 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

It was nice to have coffee and hot water (for tea) at the Walter's this morning. If we meet there again, a pitcher of cold water would also be welcome. Folklore1 (talk) 21:54, 23 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Suggestion for WikiProject United States to support WikiProject Maryland/Baltimore edit

It was recently suggested that WikiProject Maryland be included in the list of projects supported by WikiProject United States. After reviewing the project it appears that there have been some recent discussions on the talk page and some updates to the project page. Before any action is taken I want to ensure that the members of the project concur with this action. Please feel free to contact me if there are any comments or questions. --Kumioko (talk) 17:30, 20 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Will the Task Force Baltimore page still be available? Folklore1 (talk) 19:38, 30 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yes as a matter of fact if added I am going to be expanding it so that it has the full capability of Class and importance categories and accepts the parameter functionality of the United States template. If you want to see what all that would entail take a look at Category:Eastern Washington task force articles. Additionally if you want to see what it would look like on the template take a look at how South Carolina and Washington appear with subprojects/task forces on the WPUS template at Template:WikiProject United States/sandbox. --Kumioko (talk) 20:08, 30 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Telesma edit

I just created an article about the Baltimore-based musical group Telesma, and it was nominated for deletion WHILE I was posting it![1] I would certainly welcome any help beefing it up and helping establish notability.Rosencomet (talk) 16:53, 23 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Project scope edit

I'd like for the metro area to fit the project scope. The metro area includes the following counties:

  • Baltimore City
  • Anne Arundel County
  • Baltimore County
  • Carroll County
  • Harford County
  • Howard County
  • Queen Anne's County

If there is no objection I'll add these counties to the scope WhisperToMe (talk) 20:15, 26 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

History of revitalization of downtown article edit

I was looking up the Charles Center article. This article is actually mostly a history of the general re-gentrification/repurposing of central/south-eastern Baltimore, starting with the Charles Center-proper, but continuing on to the Inner Harbor, President Street, Harbor East, the downtown portion of the JFX. This information is too broad to put in the Charles Center article, but I think it should have a home. Is there a general term we can use to lump all these projects together? Is there an article discussing them? David s graff (talk) 01:21, 8 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Flag of Baltimore edit

I see this article is about the flag of Baltimore City. But, there is also a flag of Baltimore County, which you can see here:

(A) http://www.crwflags.com/art/states/md-bcounty.gif

(B) http://flagspot.net/flags/us-md-bc.html

(C) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Flag of Baltimore County, Maryland.svg

(D) http://www.baltimorecountymd.gov/countycouncil/about.html

Seeing as how (1) the title of this article is "Flag of Baltimore" (which incorrectly misleads the reader into thinking that there is only one flag associated with Baltimore), (2) the title of the article could easily refer to either flag of Baltimore, and (3) the article is a stub, I make the following recommendation:

First, that we include two sections in this article, one for the flag of Baltimore City, and the other for the flag of Baltimore County.

Second, that we change the name of the article to Flags of Baltimore.

Third, that we redirect the old Flag of Baltimore page to the new Flags of Baltimore page.

Suggestion for article inclusion edit

I'm thinking this taskforce might like to include Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing (United States), since Baltimore is one if the cities it focuses on. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 22:41, 19 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Since there has been no objections expressed, I went ahead and added the banner. Of course, if participants in this project object, you can remove it. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 12:41, 26 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

2016 primary/general edit

I've started a very rough draft of the Baltimore 2016 election as it was somewhat historic and am wondering if anyone is interested in helping? I have a lot of ideas for it but I'm having trouble with the info boxes (election boxes) and that seems to be the biggest struggle at the moment. Hopefully this is the right place to go... edit:probably should include my draft and that I did it focusing primarily on District 1 since that is what I have the most knowledge of. Draft:District 1 2016 Primary Election Chrissymad ❯❯❯ Talk 14:37, 1 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Should I reply here or on the talkpage of your draft? So far, I'd say it looks well organized and easy to follow. :) I'll try to contribute a little later if I can. For now, I just wanted to make sure you'd seen these:
They might be good to use as guides for the layout and infoboxes and stuff. PermStrump(talk) 18:52, 1 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Photos edit

I am going to go out today and take photos of the Robert Long House and am going to make a list of other articles nearby (I am in the Fells Point area) and between Camden Station that might need photographs as I walk that every day. If anyone can think of any that needed updated photos or photos in general, please let me know on my talk page! Chrissymad ❯❯❯ Talk

@Chrissymad: Did you ever get those photos? Every time I head down there I seem to forget to take the pictures I'm meaning to take. RickinBaltimore (talk) 19:07, 5 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

RickinBaltimore anything else you think we need photos of in the area? (Fells, Harbor East, Inner Harbor)? CHRISSYMAD ❯❯❯¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 01:45, 6 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
I'll have a peek at some of the articles and see what could be added. RickinBaltimore (talk) 01:55, 6 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

The Book Thing edit

The Book Thing's page is really short, and only has two sources. Would be a great and manageable task to flesh the article out, add more references, and maybe upload a picture or two (building, fire devastation). Could even merge with or just link out to Culture of Baltimore? 205.128.224.6 (talk) 19:11, 1 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Help with BaltimoreLink edit

If you weren't aware, the MTA has introduced the final release of their BaltimoreLink system to overhaul the current bus system in and around Baltimore. All of the routes currently in use are changing, either in their destinations, actual route, length, or simply bus route numbers. We're going to need to have articles created for these new routes, similar to what's on Wikipedia now, and those articles will need to be revised to reflect that they no longer will be in service. The service goes into effect on June 18th of this year (see [2]. Any help in getting articles made for this would be great. RickinBaltimore (talk) 19:23, 5 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

I've also started adding info on the current bus routes on how they will be affected by BaltimoreLink, and will be updating the MTA Maryland page on this as well. RickinBaltimore (talk) 20:10, 5 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
RickinBaltimore You mean the new rebranding of buses that we're calling a "new" system? ;) ;) sorry if political humor doesn't belong here, I can't resist a jab at the piss poor attempt to make up for killing the red line As a daily bus rider, I'd be glad to help though! CHRISSYMAD ❯❯❯¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 20:41, 5 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
Red Line, what Red Line? RickinBaltimore (talk) 20:48, 5 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
Exactly. CHRISSYMAD ❯❯❯¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 01:44, 6 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
So the "improvement" went live today. I'm going to start trying to clean up articles on the MTA. RickinBaltimore (talk) 14:19, 19 June 2017 (UTC)Reply
It appears that the re-branding has completely abolished the use of color for distinguishing the various rail lines and services. Should we do the same? – Train2104 (t • c) 16:53, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
In what way? Sorry if I'm ignorant, I didn't even realize the MTA did that to be honest, I've only heard MARC, Metro and Light Rail, never a color with them (unless you mean the maps). RickinBaltimore (talk) 17:04, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
I've always known it as Metro green, BWI blue, Cromwell yellow, Penn Station red. – Train2104 (t • c) 17:08, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Can we create an article The 2017 BaltimoreLink Disaster (and how not to run public transit services) or would that violate WP:NPOV? Just kidding. Sorta. Don't pull a Larry Hogan and block me.CHRISSYMAD ❯❯❯¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 17:20, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Is it NPOV if it's true? In all seriousness, there may be a spot to put criticism of BaltimoreLink in the main article (the town hall meeting and reactions there alone, along with public outcry in the Baltimore Sun). RickinBaltimore (talk) 17:27, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool edit

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? Looking for help with request for Stewart Bainum Jr. article edit

Hi all, I am hoping someone here would have a few minutes to review some new details to add to the article for Maryland businessman, Stewart W. Bainum Jr. In the last year, Mr. Bainum has received a lot of media coverage for his efforts to try and buy The Baltimore Sun and its parent company, and then his work to establish local news site The Baltimore Banner. The article is missing much of this information, so I've put together a draft for editors look over and add if they think it's ok. My full request and draft is here on the Talk page.

One editor has reviewed and given positive feedback, but I've not been able to find anyone else to review and/or add the draft. I reached out on the main WikiProject Maryland Talk page and had no response yet, so I figured editors here might be interested due to the Baltimore-centric aspect to this particular update. For transparency, the reason I'm making the request is that I have a financial conflict of interest, as Mr. Bainum is my client and I am here on his behalf. Thanks in advance for any help! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 02:28, 24 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
