Project directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. Beirut Article

Hi. I was just glossing over the Beirut article...it is in desperate need of sources. There are several POV statements that I'm about to fix...I thought I would mention it here. Lebanese livre

I've been talking with Dove1950 about the Lebanese livre article, and why the main article is named Lebanese livre instead of Lebanese lira or Lebanese pound. We came to the general conclusion that, following the Numismatics style guidelines, the article and currency should be referred to as the Lebanese lira. As such, I'm going to start moving the article and updating references to it. If you see inconsistencies in usage between livre, lira, and pound please update them accordingly. Thanks. Hi George, my time does not allow me to probe all the details on this issue, but let me throw in my 2 cents for whatever it is worth. Using Lebanese Lira (LL) is certainly more accurate than Lebanese Livre. Livre is a French word meaning Lira from "Livre Libanaise". While Lebanese Pound is the more accurate description of Lebanese Lira in English and it is widely used when referring to the Lebanese currency in English, the use of Lebanese Lira is far more appropriate in Wikipedia to identify the unique use of Lira in Lebanon. Hi Lcnj. Yup, I agree. I don't have any personal preference between lira and pound (one is the native tongue name, the other is the official name), but Dove19150 preferred lira to pound, and we agreed that they were both more appropriate than the French livre, so I moved the article to Lebanese lira. Hello.

I'm trying to assist two of your members reach a consensus over who should and should not be in the article List of Lebanese people and also to the extent information about individuals should be expanded on in the list. As you guys are clearly among the most informed on the subject, I wonder if you would mind commenting. It would help if you could keep your comments on the topic of content, and not behaviour of the individuals, as personal conflict is already heavily influencing the dispute (as you can see from the statements). Adding town/village infobox.

I've created an infobox for towns and villages in Lebanon. I've begun adding it to some town/villages, but if you see some articles that it would help please add it. You can see what it looks like here as an example. The reason I didn't use any of the generic ones is that they're very complicated and can't do some things we might want, like hiding the population or area in square meters, as those numbers might be harder to come by in small towns of villages in Lebanon. Absolutely. It will take me a little while probably, as I'm trying to look up the governorate and district for towns as I come across them, while maintaining the template, but I can definately add them to the project as I go through them. Hey Lestat, I'm considering adding {{WikiProject Lebanon}} to the city template itself, so it will automatically show on any and all articles that use it (and whoever adds the city template, probably myself, should subsequently add the article to the scope section). What are your thoughts on this idea? I'm also thinking of adding the cities and villages in Lebanon category tag to the city template, so any place it is added will also automatically be added to the category.

• The scope of the article is indeed anything related to Lebanon.
• Adding the {{WikiProject Lebanon}} template to your city template will cause the {{WikiProject Lebanon}} to appear on the main article page. The template, however, is meant to to be added to the article talk page (sorry if I was unclear). But I think you should definately add the category to your template. I think I should do the same with {{WikiProject Lebanon}} so that all pages with that name are added to a WikiProject Lebanon category. This will save us the trouble of manually adding articles to the scope section, which would then merely list the article under the category.
• I suppose the previous point probably answered your last question.

On second thought, I want to be sure I understand what you're planning to do before I start. Are you planning to make {{WikiProject Lebanon}} a template for main article pages instead of talk pages, or will the template parse the name of the talk page and figure out the main article page based on that? It probably doesn't make sense to have the talk pages in the category, but it makes perfect sense to have the main articles in it (just not sure which way you're going to implement this - changing the template or having the template figure out the associated article). Yes, the template {{WikiProject Lebanon}} is to be transcluded in talk pages only. The talk pages themselves are added into the category. This seems to be the common practice (see this and this). LestatdeLioncourt ^talk 20:27, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Question on adding WikiProject Lebanon template

I just noticed that the existing Lebanon category is quite extensive with pretty deep sub-categorization. What should the relation between this and the WikiProject Lebanon template be? Does our template go on all the talk pages and the Lebanon category (or sub-categories) on all the main articles? Is there any way to tie the two together so that when we add one the other also shows up? — George Saliba ^[talk] 10:40, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

You can add the WikiProject Lebanon articles category into the Lebanon category. But I don't really see the point why you should do that. I think the WikiProject Lebanon articles category is useful in at least determing which articles have been added to the project scope and which have not, and the Lebanon category can be used as a checklist. —LestatdeLioncourt 14:14, 19 December 2006 (UTC)~

Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. I was glad that a project aimed at improving Lebanon-related articles is created. But I see that there's not yet a real collaboration project between members of the wikiproject in order to improve a specific article. Would you think as a first one getting Lebanon to FA status? Joyce Gemayel

Hello. I created a Joyce Gemayel stub. I know nothing about Mrs Gemayel, and care even less whether she is notable or not. However, I'm tired of the disputes about notability at List of Lebanese people and the best was to establish notability is to create an article and see if it survives, instead of debating notability in a list. If anyone could improve the stub, please do so. Or is she isn't deemed notable enough in your opinion, please list at WP:AfD and we can let the community decide. Thanks. Lebanese Resistance

New userpage template

I created this a while ago, but forgot to tell anyone. I've created a new userpage template to indicate that you are a member of WikiProject Lebanon, for those that don't want to use the userbox one for whatever reason (too many userboxes, userboxphobia, minimalism, etc.). This section in the Lebanon article seems to be hovering on the edge of a biased viewpoint. It was added in this edit by 77.42.129.120 (talk) and I can see that it does highlight an important so I am loathe to remove it entirely but I feel it could do with someone more knowledgeable editing it. Steps for making Beirut a Featured Articke

Hello everyone. I just had a word with one of our moderators, tariqabjotu, and he stated that the lists under "Districts & Neighborhoods", "Colleges and universities", "Public Spaces", and "Famous Births" need to be replaced with prose or removed altogether. Also, he had a point pointing to other FA cities like Jerusalem, New York City, Mumbai, and others found under Wikipedia:Featured articles#Geography and places. We should also have an well-sourced article made up almost entirely of prose. You cannot rate articles however you like. There is a system for doing so. There is a process for labeling an article as GA quality. It must be nominated and reviewed by a group of other editors. Read WP:GA for details on how this is done. ← George ^[talk] 08:55, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

hey guys, first let me congrat. u all for the progress that was done during the last year, some articles are better referenced and organized and we have an all time record in GA rated articles . nevertheless there are still many important articles who need expert contributions , soooo many need referencing and a good bunch simply require deletion.

a few tips for the editors, please do not write anything without a reference, do not start articles about unimportant people or places, (please read about notability), it is not admissible to write an article about a family notable who is only known in his hometown, nor to start an article about a food bazaar which is held once every say 8 years ...

I recently mediated the deletion of some articles and a CV (some actually write autobiographies here). these articles were of "un"-notable people which made some editors upset.

I will not apologize nor do i regret any of my actions.

Lebanese music industry

I've been unable to find information pertaining to the Lebanese music industry, so I was hoping someone here could help me. Is there a Lebanese equivalent to the Recording Industry Association of America or British Phonographic Industry? I ask because I'm working on a global music-market type article (List of music recording sales certifications) and I've been unable to find much info pertaining to the Lebanese music industry. Hezbollah GA Sweeps Review: On Hold

As part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the GA criteria and I'm specifically going over all of the "Culture and Society" articles. I have reviewed Hezbollah and believe the article currently meets the majority of the criteria and should remain listed as a Good article. I have left this message at this WikiProject's talk page so that any interested members can assist in helping the article keep its GA status. In reviewing the article, I have found there are some issues that may need to be addressed, and I'll leave the article on hold for seven days for them to be fixed. I have left messages on the talk pages of the main contributors of the article and several other related WikiProjects. Please consider helping address the several points that I listed on the talk page of the article, which shouldn't take too long to fix if multiple editors assist in the workload. Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

• The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
• The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
• A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! 8 or 6 Mohafazats

Nobody noticed that Lebanon actually has 8 Mohafazats (or governorates) instead of 6. In 2003, the Baalbeck-Hermel and Akkar Mohafaza have been created . I made some research and I found that many sources give proof to this claim: CIA World Factbool, Localiban, LebanonWire... in addition to some maps I have personally seen. However, it's a mystery that this fact is unknown among most people and most information website (including the website of the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities) who still refer to the old scheme. I'm not sure if the correct number is 6 or 8. The Lebanese Government Portal for Information & Forms, which has the phone numbers for all the various officies in the governorates and municipalities, lists 6 governorates.[2] It sounds like there was a law that made two new pseudo-governorates. Another article on LebanonWire says that the governorates wouldn't have budgets. It's also unclear if the law was enforced, with the LebanonWire article you cited stating that "[Hezbollah] promised inhabitants of the two regions to 'follow up on the activation of this achievement.'" Maybe someone in Lebanon will have a better idea of the details. ← George ^[talk] 21:38, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi, would someone mind going through the edits by this new user? (S)he's been identified as a vandal after some controversial edits to Rahm Emanuel and all his/her edits have been reversed as vandal edits. I'm not convinced that this decision is correct. For example this diff [3] fits with material in Fakhr-al-Din II. Of course, that article could have been vandalised too. Anyway, I thought people here are more likely to be able to tell whether this person is genuine or not as most of his edits concern Lebanon or the Lebanese diaspora. The first is vandalism, the second is a good faith edit. It comes with a certain POV and has issues with implying that the younger Emanuel necessarilly would have supported his father's membership of Irgun, (attested in this NYT article[4]) but you'll find that most editors at Talk:Irgun agree that it was a terrorist group. And of course you have reversed the chronology of the two edits. The vandalism came after his previous edits to several articles were reversed by people who just bit the newbie and did not attempt to explain more. --Peter cohen (talk) 00:26, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

I've started to check YYouhanna's edits. I only see a single act of vandalism out of his 32 edits. However, many of his edits are of dubious quality. For example, Avi did the right thing by reverting this one to John Chrysostom since (1) most patristic source material doesn't refer to his father as a Syrian officer, and (2) YYouhanna inserted material in such as way as to imply that it's supported by in-line citations, which it most likely isn't.

That said, I'm surprised that YYouhanna received a block rather than a warning. Peter is right; it's best to tread lightly with newbies, especially in a case involving a single act of vandalism which was most likely brought on by having his edits reverted with little or no explaination.

I'm also surprised that the message accompanying the block doesn't mention when the "temporary" block expires. Perhaps Avi can clarify. Cheers, Majoreditor (talk) 07:46, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

More importantly, numerous editors have attempted to interact with this editor but to no avail. The very fact that he refuses to discuss any of his edits is enough, imo to warrant a block. A fundamental aspect of this encyclopedia is that it is built by a collaborative effort. Anyone who doesn't understand or refuses to accept this concept should not have the right to edit. This message is being sent to WikiProjects with GAs under their scope. Since August 2007, WikiProject Good Articles has been participating in GA sweeps. The process helps to ensure that articles that have passed a nomination before that date meet the GA criteria. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. Defamation of Mr. Berri on Wikipedia

The biography article on Mr. Nabih Berri, the current Speaker of Parliament of Lebanon is ABSURD.

"It is widely believed that Berri has benefited from the large sums of money", "He, as well as Rafik Hariri and Walid Jumblatt, are viewed by many as having been puppets of the Syrian government during its 30-year military presence."

This is a clear absurd defamation that has to be corrected immediately. I understand that Wikipedia does not check every article, but there should be a minimum regulation.

We kindly request this complaint be taken seriously, and acted upon immediately, as it falls under WikiProject Lebanon.

I think what you have is really good. I might consider swapping the silver & phoenix medals, but maybe not - I'm not sure which you intended to be more prestigious, but getting articles to FA or GA status should be rewarded more than citing good sources (which is a sub-part of getting articles to FA/GA). I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of system too for "ranks", almost like military ranks, just as a way to structure and organize ourselves. I don't know how one would achieve ranks... maybe each rank would have a certain criteria of what someone would have to do... getting an article to FA, getting X articles to GA, etc. The ranks wouldn't mean much more than barnstars, but could provide a way for other editors to more quickly locate editors well-versed in Lebanon-related topics. ← George ^talk 06:22, 25 September 2009 (UTC)

Hey George, i made a small research to assess the feasibility of a rank system and it already does exist >> Wikipedia:Service awards, i see we adopt it without any change to avoid duplicity, the ribbons are not very aesthetic and its nomenclature is very odd (Burba, novato...) but they do the job. This service award/rank system relies on duration of service and the number of edits both of which can be found at the bottom of a user's contributions page here's yours per example and it is really intimidating! so should we proceed with it? Ah, that's pretty cool. So yes, I think we could use two systems - one using your icons, which are for editors who go beyond the achievements of normal editors (those who take articles to FA/GA, etc.), and one using icons just based on the number of edits the editors has made (possibly combined with how long they've been editing, as these service awards). Is there any way to figure out how many edits people have made specifically to articles that are part of WikiProject Lebanon? Personally, I'd like most to see something very much like these service awards, but (a) based only on the number of edits to articles that are part of WikiProject Lebanon, and (b) have some custom look specific to WikiProject Lebanon, to distinguish them from the standard service awards. The WikiProject Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons (UBLPs) aims to reduce the number of unreferenced biographical articles to under 30,000 by June 1, primarily by enabling WikiProjects to easily identify UBLP articles in their project's scope. There were over 52,000 unreferenced BLPs in January 2010 and this has been reduced to 32,665 as of May 16. A bot is now running daily to compile a list of all articles that are in both Category:All unreferenced BLPs and have been tagged by a WikiProject. Note that the bot does NOT place unreferenced tags or assign articles to projects - this has been done by others previously - it just compiles a list.

I was wondering if someone on this project with more knowledge on the "false witnesses" saga could add the stuff to the page. Article on the singer Elissa deleted

The article on Elissa has been deleted[6], quite prematurely I believe. A novice editor was asked to bring reliable sources within a short time frame, couldn't, and then the article was just deleted, regardles of Elissa probably being one of the most famous Arab pop musicians. There's an article about this vague subject, the rockets didn't cause any casualties, but it did breach Israel's sovereignity. And if that's why its notable, then we sure should also have an article devoted to illegal Israeli overflights of Lebanese territory and things like that. Architecture of Lebanon

This is a dreadful article. Its lead: "The architecture of Lebanon, or often referred to as the Lebanese architecture, is a resemblance of the history and culture of Lebanon. The houses are minuscule representations of family heritage and the old buildings are a outlined by the history of different era's the country lived some of which left beauties of art still present till our days while others brought the unexpected. Architecture in Lebanon is mostly cultural towns and cities in Lebanon hold structures dating back a thousand of years to the dates of the nations earliest human inhabitants."

The article doesn't get any better. And it claims that the oldest houses in Lebanon are Phoenician, when clearly there are older houses. Dougweller (talk) 06:47, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

That is absolutely false information - the world's oldest mosque is in Saudi Arabia in Medina (where Islam actuality originated from!!) built in 622 I believe, but please re-check!! The Byblos mosque was built much later (please revise and let us know exactly when this mosque was built, thank you)

Sources for populations, etc

I came across, and have been trying to fix, the article for Talia, but unfortunately all I know so far about the town is what was in the original article, which was copyvio from this site. Unfortunately I have no clue what kinds of online sources would give authoritatve info on cities in Lebanon. In the US the census site or the city's website would be the best place. In this case my web searches are finding lots of sites talking about Talia, but none of them seem recognizably authoritative. I can't even trust google maps here because it is unclear if it's really showing Talia or rubber banding to Baalbek. I won't be surprised if this ends up requiring a trip to the library, and the reference desk is not a bad way to go, but I thought since this is the project for Lebanon you probably have come to some conclusion as to what sources are authoritative/useful for this sort of thing. Suggestions on subjects that need attention

Hello, I was going over some of the pages on Lebanon and their content, and there doesn't seem to be much information on unemployment, emigration, and education, the relation between them and how they affect young people in the country. Adding pages for one or both of the first two topics, and expanding the page of the 3rd to include more information on them might be useful. I started this template showing all international schools in Lebanon. All French schools designated by the AEFE have a French flag: Template:International schools in Lebanon.

Questions: Lebanese article names, population info

1) Does anyone know of a site where I could access information from the Lebanese census regarding the demographics/population of individual localities? I know there hasn't exactly been a census since '32, but was wondering if there's some sort of official record regarding basic population figures. If not, does anyone know of alternative (and generally reliable) source for such information?

2) As I've been editing articles about Ottoman-era Lebanon, I've noticed there's a significant difference in the way Lebanese localities, persons, etc are spelled than how they're spelled in English-language sources (at least the ones I've come across on google books). For example, Shuf vs Chouf, Yusuf vs Joseph/Youssef, Dayr al-Qamar vs Deir el-Qamar, Shihab vs Chehab, etc. It seems that on English Wikipedia, we're transliterating close to the French way. Is there a standardized form that Wikipedia articles on Lebanese subjects should be transliterated from Arabic or is it just based on an individual editor's decision? If it's the latter case, then shouldn't we have a standardized transliteration form, and if so, should it be more faithful to the English-language sources or the French language? --Al Ameer (talk) 19:35, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

Huge tangle of Lebanon diaspora categories, titles

Not sure if this helps since this is not a busy page, but just wanted to note that Category:Lebanese diaspora and its related cats are a tangled mess. There seems to be substantial conflation between "Lebanese diaspora", "Lebanese emigrants", "Lebanese expatriates", and "Lebanese communities outside of Lebanon". I'm sure there are slight differences, but all of these get used wholesale on articles about the diaspora.

Note also in Category:Lebanese diaspora by country (which I had to create since Lebanon, of all countries, lacked this category) that there's no standardization as to whether it should be "Lebanese American" or "Lebanese people in Germany", "Lebanese migration to Paraguay", or "Egyptian people of Lebanese origin". Maybe it's not possible to have just one title format, but four seems excessive. Just noting here for the record. MatthewVanitas (talk) 10:08, 18 March 2018 (UTC)

MatthewVanitas actually I feel that Lebanese emigrants should be redirected to Lebanese diaspora, and the same for Lebanese communities outside of Lebanon. What are your suggestions? Maybe we can tackle this together because as of right now the categories are much too numerous and are incomplete in this way. @LebaneseBebe: this is just my initial idea, but I'd suggest that anything about groups of people be put under "diaspora" categories, and individual people be put as emigrants. Though re the latter an "emigrant" would have to be someone who personally emigrated, not someone like a Lebanese-American person who was born in the US. I'm open to idea from others, but as noted there is just a lot of overlap and redundancy. I'll try to take a look later and get a more cogent strategy. If we want to do something that involves moving a lot of articles I suggest we ask WP:CFD to do it automatically rather than re-categorize hundreds of articles. Can you take a quick look and maybe propose just a few key category title-formats we should use, and which ones should be deleted or merged into the proper ones? @MatthewVantis:some of those are good suggestions. What I am thinking of doing is writing down all of the Lebanese “people”/group categories and then figuring out a way to organize it. As for “emigrants” there will be an issue there. Because while some of us such as myself are considered first generation Americans, we are still second generation immigrants. Along with the fact that most of us have (birth right) Lebanese citizenship through our paternal line. But there is a way to organize it, I’ve noticed redundant categories such as Lebanese Americans vs Americans of Lebanese descent, etc. LebaneseBebe (talk) 00:27, 24 March 2018 (UTC)

@LebaneseBebe: I think as an initial step we can consider using CFD to delete/merge the category Category:Lebanese communities outside Lebanon, as I don't see any reason that's not redundant to Category:Lebanese diaspora by country. @MatthewVanitas: you actually inspired this idea (every other diaspora group has a page/category categorized as diaspora by country), lol. I am sure that this current project would not be better utilized under other wiki projects. I have also attempted to reach out to other people. And I am willing to completely take this on myself. I would like to create a WikiProject Phoenicia, or WikiProject Ancient Phoenicia. It was a long spanning empire, with roots to modern civilizations and countries, it deserves a category of its own. It’s significant enough in terms of colonization, empire, imperialism, and -linguistics-. WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

The following is found in the article "Hammana": "The village has given the world great humanitarian persons, among them Doctor Fangis Khan who helped save Changy Wangy from many diseases of the new age, and who was honored by naming the square in the front the town's square after him." I'm not sure if this is the right place, but perhaps you can help, I think Azm Movement and Majd Movement describe the same thing, but I'm not sure, because both are stubs and I don't speak arabic and online translations are dubious at best. Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. User script to detect unreliable sources

Main page: User:Headbomb/unreliable

I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like

• John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)

and turns it into something like

• John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.

It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.

The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Majdel Balhis

Can somebody familiar with the area and the issues take a look at the Majdel Balhis village article? User:Brmcmahon has been writing a 7th-to-19th century history of the wider Mount Hermon area there instead of at Mount Hermon, partly because the Mount Hermon article is locked to new editors, and partly because they are unsure of what "reaction" they would get if they wrote it there. Given the {{Arab-Israeli Arbitration Enforcement}} template on Mount Hermon, I assume some care and attention is needed here. --Lord Belbury (talk) 17:35, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

Question

Does anyone refer to the current state of Lebanon (after the Taif agreement) as the "Second Lebanese Republic" and does anyone have sources to that? The same applies to the First Lebanese Republic (after independence). Hoping to make an article for both, especially since this redirect has a "Redirect with possibilities" tag on it. Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Strange Titling of Diasporta

Earlier today I stumbled upon Lebanese Brazilians, which was at the time titled "Lebanese People in Brazil." I decided to change it as it seemed strange and ambiguous (it could be interpreted as any Lebanese person in Brazil and not just Brazilians of Lebanese descent.) After doing this to two more pages I noticed that lot of pages are titled with the "_____ people in _____" format and I figured I should comment here before mass moving the rest. It has come to my notice that User:Emolu has been making changes and removing content from various articles within this project scope without engaging in proper discussion or seeking consensus. While I value the contributions of all editors, it is important to uphold the collaborative nature of Wikipedia and ensure that changes are made through transparent and constructive discussions. Removing content without proper consensus can lead to the loss of valuable information and disrupt the integrity of our articles.

How would anyone use this report in English from L'Orient-Le Jour to expand on Lebanon's film classification and censorship system in both Human rights in Lebanon (which Censorship in Lebanon redirects to) and Motion picture content rating system#Lebanon articles? Women in Green's 5th Edit-a-thon

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2023!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2023, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.
