Disambiguation links to Tamayori-hime edit

Could you help to fix the links to Tamayori-hime shown in the list Disambig fix list for Tamayori-hime? Are the articles about the same individual? I do not have the expertise to sort out the disambiguation links but they are likely to be unhelpful to readers.— Rod talk 15:27, 28 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Rodw: Almost every single link to Tamayori-hime is supposed to go to Tamayori-hime (mother of Jimmu) and almost every link to Tamayoribime is supposed to go to Tamayori-hime (mother-in-law of Jimmu). Tamayori-hime (mother of Jimmu) is a much older article originally under the name Tamayori-hime MaitreyaVaruna (talk) 20:05, 4 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Rodw: I came to edit and say that it seems Tamayoribime links are way more ambiguous than I thought, and they need a lot more work MaitreyaVaruna (talk) 20:18, 4 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Rodw: Sorry for the constant pings but I figured out why this happened. Tamayoribime was the old title of Tamayori-hime (mother of Jimmu), but the page was renamed before the pages became distinct. Most older links to Tamayoribime are in fact supposed to go to Tamayori-hime (mother of Jimmu)MaitreyaVaruna (talk) 20:26, 4 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for sorting this out. I was very unsure and didn't want to send readers to the wrong article which is why I put this here asking for your expert help.— Rod talk 20:28, 4 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Renaming all shinto cults from "faith" to "cult" edit

I want to rename all categories in this category Category:Shinto cults from x faith to x cult, because they are about cults of specific deities. I believe calling them "faith" is a mistranslation from google translate, and that it mistakenly implies that something like the Tenjin faith is an independent religion like the Baháʼí Faith, whereas all of these groups are more like Veneration of Mary in the Catholic Church MaitreyaVaruna (talk) 22:05, 25 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Not sure. The word "cult" has a lot of added baggage in English that we may not want to apply to the categories you mention. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 22:57, 25 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Nihonjoe: do you have another possible translation idea? I think faith is very clumsy, but cult has negative connotations. Do you think any other English word may work such as worship or something?MaitreyaVaruna (talk) 20:34, 4 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
I would choose worship as in nature worship for Shinto articles. "Tenjin worship" sounds natural to me.Shinkansen Fan (talk) 21:19, 4 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Cult is not appropriate as it has too many unrelated negative or fringe connotations. Faith or worship are better options. Netherzone (talk) 21:24, 4 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Nihonjoe:@Netherzone:@Shinkansen Fan: I think we should go for worship, as cult is just the latin word for worship anyways. Any objection or should we start renaming the categories and articles?MaitreyaVaruna (talk) 23:30, 4 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
There's a category renaming bot right? — Preceding unsigned comment added by MaitreyaVaruna (talkcontribs) 15:10, 5 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
I think "worship" is a good word to use. However, before renaming everything, some research should be done to see what the majority of reliable sources use for each article subject. That's the naming convention we should use. Once we find that, we can determine what should be used for the category names and article titles. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 18:54, 7 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Assessing Kyushu dynasty theory edit

Can we get an assessment of the article Kyushu dynasty theory Talk:Kyushu dynasty theory to see where it fits in the quality scale? MaitreyaVaruna (talk) 19:34, 7 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

I've assessed it. However, there's a ref that is used but not defined. I can't figure out which reference it should be. Also, there's a bunch of refs with a group set but not named. They should all be named to avoid problems like this. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 21:54, 7 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Adding links to Matsuri Float edit

Matsuri Float is currently an orphan. Do any of you have ideas of which articles to link to it? MaitreyaVaruna (talk) 19:58, 7 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

I moved it to Matsuri float and added {{nihongo}} to the intro. It's not an orphan. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 22:08, 7 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

RinRin Doll / Kawaii International edit

Hello, I recently created a draft for RinRin Doll, a Japanese American model. I also recently created a draft for Kawaii International, a show on NHK World Japan that she hosted. Any help finding sources would be really appreciated. Thank you, Thriley (talk) 04:23, 18 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

About Collon (confectionery) edit

I came across the article Collon (confectionery), described as a confection that is "also called wagashi in Japanese. I do not believe this needs to be a stand-alone article for the following reasons:

  1. This term is simply a synonym for wagashi
  2. Nothing in the content distinguishes it from the content of wagashi
  3. None of the cited sources even mention the word "collon"

And I have to admit, I've never heard the term "collon" in any context and it's obviously not a Japanese word. A Google search reveals it's a brand name (actually "Cream Collon"} for a biscuit or cookie made by Glico (the same company that makes Pocky. The Japanese article is here (Japanese: コロン (菓子)). I left a question on the Talk page, which never received a reply. I recommend the following:

I am open to discussion, if anyone knows why this term deserves its own article. Thank you. - Boneyard90 (talk) 19:38, 6 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

I would merge the content into Wagashi, then redirect Collon (confectionery) to Wagashi. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 19:15, 14 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
The article appears to be simply wrong: the writer(s?) misunderstands "collon" to be the English(??) for wagashi, which it is not. So the article is not even about 'Collon', the brand-name sweets (which would not be regarded as wagashi at all, I think). Redirecting "Collon" to wagashi seems to me to be completely wrong, too. Unless there is material which could enhance the wagashi article, I suggest reducing to a stub describing the actuall "Collon" sweets, then a discussion of whether this is really notable or should be deleted. Translating sections of Beppo Shrine edit

I recently translated Beppo Shrine from Japanese. Most of the article was easy, but the table is a big hassle. Can any of you help with it?MaitreyaVaruna (talk) 02:15, 27 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Omiki edit

I am working on the article Draft:Omiki and there are a few sentences from the original Japanese that I do not understand, which likely need implied Japanese cultural knowledge or an understanding of Japanese grammar which is beyond me

また、2年参りで礼拝をしたあとに、神酒を振る舞われる神社もある

Does this reference a specific two-year observance? And is it every two years a festival happens or is it some kind of individual initiation? Is it something a shrine does 2 years after its own opening?

また、造り酒屋によっては、新酒を神棚に供えるところもある。

Is this referring to specific Kamidana or just that certain breweries specialize in ritual sake?
