Gah! all of them, done by hand, using the following template:

Highlander: The Source character articles edit

Should any of the new characters deserve an article?--SGCommand (talkcontribs) 17:37, 17 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I should think so, as this is canon, at least, far more canon than any of that animated garbage. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 17:52, 17 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
In that case, who should vonenteer creating the articles (since I have not yet seen the film)?--SGCommand (talkcontribs) 19:51, 17 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure... We dont have much background info on the characters. There was no flashbacks scenes in The Source.. All present day scenes Stormin' Foreman 19:58, 17 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Surely the characters can be expanded upon?--SGCommand (talkcontribs) 20:09, 17 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think there is an article for minor characters in the Highlander universe (and if not, there shoulkd be, as this would really be a one-stop shopping solution for a lot of the readers). Why not put it there? If we learn more, the entry for the character will expand into its own article, if the new information is 3-D enough to warrant its own article. Honestly, I think that might be a better solution, as a weak, stand-alone article is ripe for beheading...er, deletion, I mean. ;) - Arcayne (cast a spell) 20:51, 17 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
You are correct Arcayne. That list is here. Stormin' Foreman 21:03, 17 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I added the characters in the film list and am removing the character list in the film, Okay?--SGCommand (talkcontribs) 20:08, 18 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, I had completely forgotten the question, and had to look at the archives for a reminder. Here was the post in question:

Could you point me to some sources for the words and descriptions of being found ? Especially for Connor, because I said in Immortal (Highlander) that he's never said to be a foundling, so if I messed up, I need a source. I must admit I find it hard to ignore the "I/He was born four hundred years ago in the Highlands of Scotland" that begin each episode, or the Watcher chronicle of every Immortal beginning with "Born". I mean, if it's their words, why don't we use them ? On the other hand, to be born and to be found don't exclude each other, so I guess my line of thinking it that they are born first and then found, while yours is that we don't know what happens first, and then they're found. Am I right ? Rosenknospe 15:26, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Again, sorry for not answering this when asked. I was dealing with a big bag of crazy in another article at the time, and got sidetracked.
To answer your question, I think that Duncan (and others) are very like human babies in that they don't remember their births or origins, and are given the info from those who find and take them in. Some will claim to be their parents and some will simply parent them, letting them know they were foundlings. In each instance in the series and films where the topic comes up, they are foundlings (in one episode, it was suggested that they were changelings, left by the elves, which only convolutes the origins all the more). Since Watchers don't watch everyone, and concentrate on those Immorals who begin taking heads, they cannot speak with certainty as to whether immortals are born, found, or carved out of wood by a very tired Gepetto. Who knows? Pinocchio or Jesus might just be Immortals themselves. lol. Seriously, they assume that because they look human, they must be born the regular way., However, they cannot have children, so Immortal babies don't come from Immoprtal parents. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 20:46, 18 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
That's okay :D I think Gepetto did quite a good job with Duncan, even if he was tired. :D Rosenknospe 11:12, 19 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
I just saw the film last night - what an utter pile of rubbish. While not quite as bad as Highlander 2 (and really, only those Batman films done by Schumacher deserve that distinction), it was an eye-rolling example of style over substance. It was like Highlander was crossed with The Fountain and any direct to DVD apocalyptic dredge. And the Guardian - gosh, do all European actors chew the scenery and ham up their lines as much as the actor did?
this movie was the entertainment equivalent of Taco Bell - eat it, and pray that you don't catch anything before it passes through you. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 02:37, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Couldn't agree more. I've seen both versions and both should have been completely, re-written and re-filmed. The DVD version of Endgame was actually really good and the Celtic score was a beautiful touch. It took from the best elements of the TV series and went from there... yes it did have its problems and could have done with the TV series writers putting the finishing touches on the script but it was still very good... This one was horrid from beginning to end... And don't get me started on the soundtrack <<yuck>> -- UKPhoenix79 07:00, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
We are talking about Source, not Endgame (which was particularly vile in its own speacial way - and solid evidence that Panzer/Davis have long since surrendered the right to operate anything more complicated than a pudding cup and spork) For me, a little bit of my soul died when the Guardian starts badly singing Queen tunes from the first movie. Some in-jokes are truly kneecapping offenses. This guardian guy apparenlty is up on all pop cuclture, despite the fact that he spends all of his time living in an interstellar litter box. Don't even get me started on the short-attention-span editing. Grrr. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 21:40, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image provenance edit

(cross-posted from the Connor McLeod Article here)

I am a bit concerned that the press photo for the series showing Paul/Lambert

has been licensed as a free image released by the copyholder. A closer look at the uploading indicate it was taken from a MySpace page of someone named "Donut", who I am guessing wasn't closely associated with any aspect of the series aside from watching it on tv. I am afraid this image is facing speedy removal for improper licensing. I am noticing this license side-stepping popping up more and more, but then it could just be due to me learning more about them.

I am thinking we might want to go over all the images (in all the Highlander articles) and make sure of the licensing. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 22:12, 24 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Something to kick this Project off edit

We just got tagged as inactive, so in order to keep this place busy I suggest once a month (or week, or whatever) we choose an article to improve (at least to GA status if at all possible) Suggestions? Comments? Feedback? Stormin' Foreman (talk) 01:09, 31 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I feel Tessa Noel is nearly good enough for GA. It needs a bit more outside references, a good pruning of the citations that are there (I like to have the original text under my eyes until it's time for the final copyediting) and a real good picture because we won't be able to keep the three ones that are there. So if you feel the need ;D Rosenknospe (talk) 17:21, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Timeline issues edit

Hi, I just read across the various timeline pages. Apparently their talk pages are all blank, so I put my remark here. These timelines seem to be somewhat incomplete. Specifically, there seem to be very few references to season 3 events. Is this work in progress ? Wefa (talk) 03:55, 1 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm concerned as to the lack of a Connor timeline. Unless there is some reason I don't see one, I'll get to work on it. Hooper (talk) 22:21, 17 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Start-of-the-year sweep edit

Well, as it's time to get back to work and you asked for it ;D Here's something we could do :

I intend to make a massive cleanup on Highlander pages, which is why I bring the discussion here rather than on the particular pages; there are too many of them. I want to make redirects of all articles on immortals that appear only once, be it in a movie or a serie (animated or not). Those redirects would point to a projected List of Highlander characters, of which there is a draft in my sandbox to see and discuss and make better. (Please ;). There those characters would be briefly described.

I list here the pages I feel should be kept :

Everyone else doesn't deserve their own article, in my opinion, because they are non-notable and fail WP:NOTABILITY, and because there is no way whatsoever to make GAs from them without sources.

This merge would likewise affect several lists that would also become redirects:

So, guys, what do you think ? I eagerly welcome and await comments, ideas, criticism, etc. Please go ahead. Rosenknospe (talk) 17:40, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

It makes sense. Though wait on Charlie/Maurice/et. al. all the other people that I also agree should be kept. I'll do a source search as well to see if we can make them better as their own article. Hooper (talk) 22:17, 17 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Comics and Game edit

Several new or still-unmade articles are being worked on. Any help or assesment is valuable. These include the Highlander: The Game article, the two Dyname Ent. Comic Book articles, and once some more information gets released Owen MacLeod, the main character of the game. If he is a MacLeod I'd say he deserves a page. Hooper (talk) 15:22, 18 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, if you can find information about how the game designers found him out, developed his character, designed his appearance, and how much money was used in the process, and the public reception, and so on, then yes, he deserves his own page. A good article contains a lot of out-of-universe information. Rosenknospe (talk) 16:48, 18 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm guessing we won't have enough info till either after the game is out or near it. Best to wait. Hooper (talk) 20:46, 18 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I agree. Also, I hope you won't mind if I remove OwenMacLeod'd redlink from the template until then, but people are currently mistaking him for Colin MacLeod. Rosenknospe (talk) 14:39, 19 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, go for it. Jumped the gun. I'll have the second comic page up today with good refs and I'll correct the ref on the first one. Hooper (talk) 17:08, 19 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Now that you mention it though, why doesn't Colin have his own page? Is there a particular reason or is it just one of those no-ones-got-around-to-it things? Hooper (talk) 20:17, 19 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
In response to myself, I now have in my sandbox User:HooperBandP/Sandbox a possible page for Colin if he is deemed worthy and notable enough. Any assistance is appreciated. Hooper (talk) 19:25, 20 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, I'd say the biggest problem is, you haven't any reliable source for your article yet, and to answer your question, that's why I redirected it in the first place. The article was a proposed merge months ago diff. Unless you can prove Colin had an impact on the real world, I'm afraid he won't keep his own page very long. Tell you what, I suggest you work on the Highlander: The Search For Vengeance article, and if you find enough stuff on Colin on your way, you can improve your sandbox article. I admit I don't have much hope, though, but if you can prove me wrong - please do ! Rosenknospe (talk) 09:03, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah reading thru that merge I see what everyone is saying. I'll keep the sandbox for a while in case I do find stuff but I'd say its about right about just having the one page for the movie and thats all. I'll keep looking though, just cause I got the time to kill. Hooper (talk) 15:36, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Redirect edit

Whats with the redirect and deleting some of the original character's pages? I tried to get the page of Sean Burns up from wikipedia and it redirected me to a two line summary of the character. 67.167.21.138 (talk) 04:09, 1 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I redirected that article as part of the start-of-the-year sweep (see above) because there was not enough out-of-universe information from reliable third party sources. This includes things like, why was Michael J. Jackson chosen for this role, how did he envision it, what was the function of the character, how was the job made, what did they change, how did they work together, what the audience said about it, did the character have an influence on the series, etc. It is really difficult to find this kind of information for a recurring character and so I couldn't keep the article. Please see Wikipedia:Notability (fiction) for more details. Have a nice day, Rosenknospe (talk) 14:49, 1 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Misc. Characters edit

I was reading above about the plight of the minor and misc. characters. I have a question/possible solution about this and didn't know if I should continue on with that discussion or start my own. So, I'm starting my own, but it can be moved. Anyway, I was wondering if Wiki had any size limits (as in, how little content can you have on a subject to qualify it to have it's own article) on articles? If not, then maybe we can decide how to address whether a character gets a full page or just a blip on the "minor characters" page.

My ideas: If there is enough information on a character that warrents more than either 1) two (large, like more than three sentences) paragraphs or 2) we have some background info as well as present day info and misc info (like "lovers", "time line", "fighting styles", "abilities", etc...) then that would warrent an article. If it's anything less then it should be listed on the "minor characters" page.

I just thought this might be a good way to classify who gets what since the Highlander Universe is still (somewhat) active and this would allow characters to be changed as we receive more information on them and also keep some confusion down. Any other suggestions? Selenameeka (talk) 19:48, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I know wikipedia has a policy, Not Paper, that deals with size issues and what can or can not be included. This idea seems to make sense to me. Hooper (talk) 19:52, 8 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK, there are two problems here. First, article size. There is a technical size limit on articles, which is around 32 Kb because above that it becomes difficult for people on slow connections to load the article. And the bottom limit is vague, but let's say an article is accepted as a stub when it has enough info to prove its notability, and it can be achieved in two or three sentences, for example : "John Doe, born May 9, 1942, is a former fencer who won three Olympic gold medals. He then became a wealthy businessman selling sporting equipment, before setting up a worldwide charity to help disabled people get access to sports." --You get my drift. That would be accepted as a stub (if it was real). I might also add that the limit between a stub and a start-class article is about 1500 words. But, size is not really a problem, actually. If you have information then your article becomes big enough real quickly.
The second problem here is the information. Actually, it is the kind of information and the reliable sources that we can get. It is very important, when writing about fictional characters, to make the distinction between in-universe and out-of-universe information. In-universe means talking about characters as if they were real. ("Connor MacLeod was born in 1518 in the Highlands of Scotland.") Out-of-universe means talking about them from the real world point of view, as characters of a television production. ("The 1986 movie Highlander tells the story of Connor MacLeod, born in 1518 in the Highlands of Scotland.") Wikipedia articles are out-of-universe, meaning they need a lot of out-of-universe information in them, like how the writers created the characters, why this particular actor was cast, did the character change or evolve, what the actor thinks about the character and how they play them, what the producers think, what the audience think, did the character influence the show or even the real world ? (and everything I told the IP fellow above counts, too. It's more or less the same anyway.) Actually, what the character actually does only counts for about a third of the total article. See for example Padmé Amidala, Palpatine and Jabba the Hutt which are all featured articles. And everything must be referenced to reliable sources if you want it to make it to GA. THAT'S the big problem. Information is scarce and reliable sources even more so. (And it's damn frustrating, I might add.)
I'm telling you all this because we had a lot of stubby articles about a lot of characters, and I redirected them all because there was no information available on them. (Sorry if I insist : out-of-universe info.) So there sort of already is a criterion on who gets an article and who not, which is, is there enough material from reliable sources out there for them ? I think it's a good criterion. The whole point of this project is to make good/featured articles. There is no point keeping articles that will never make it to GA. The main, really important policy here is Manual of Style : Writing About Fiction. It encompasses all what I've said and tried to emphasize here. Please take the time to have a look at it and we can discuss this further. Rosenknospe (talk) 10:59, 9 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Wow, you answer my question, give me advice, and give me good examples all in one! I love you! Haha. Expanded Timelines edit

I have noticed that there are a few aspects of Duncan MacLeod's Timeline that are missing from the article. The only one I can cover right now is the 1780's meeting with May-Ling Shen in Outer Mongolia. This is a very important meeting, as it is the time at which Duncan learned a great deal of the martial arts skill he based most of his subsequent fighting styles on. This is also the earliest chronological appearance of a Watcher on-screen (as seen by his medallion in the flashback). May-Ling was also Duncan's first female combat teacher (not to be confused with etiquette teacher, like Kristin Gilles in 1659).

Anyways, here we can bring up more to add to peoples' timelines and discuss interpretations of what's not solid fact. I also noticed that there is some stuff missing from Methos' page, too. Most notably his education in Heidelberg and subsequent career as a doctor. Ristaron (talk) 02:58, 21 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Although I created three of these pages myself, I'm still not sure they comply with Wikipedia policy about reliable sources and out-of-universe perspective (one of them is already tagged) and I certainly can't see them go through GAC sucessfully. I think important moments of Duncan MacLeod's life can maybe go in his article, and this goes for Methos as well. In any case, we can't interpret anything. Every opinion must be referenced to reliable sources. Cheers, Rosenknospe (talk) 14:28, 21 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Media franchises edit

Dear WikiProject Highlander participants...WikiProject Media franchises needs some help from other projects which are similar. Media franchises' scope deals primarily with the coordination of articles within the hundreds if not thousands of media franchises which exist. Sometimes a franchise might just need color coordination of the various templates used; it could mean creating an article for the franchise as a jump off point for the children of it; or the creation of a new templating system for media franchise articles. Leaps of Faith edit

Er, I am encountering a new user in the Highlander article who is suggesting that McLeod and Ramirez jumped off a cliff together to prove the Quickening, or some such. On the off chance that I missed a fairly notable fact over the past twenty-two years, I re-watched the relevant scene. I didn't see any such thing. I might need a little bit of help convincing the new user of this fact. Might someone pop over and join the chorus? - Arcayne (cast a spell) 14:28, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yup. Just gimme time to check my disks and I'll post over there. Rosenknospe (talk) 19:06, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Couldn't see it on any of my Highlander movies. --Kensane (talk) 11:38, 12 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Highlander II fourth version?? edit

Hey everyone. I noticed in the Highlander II article there's information about a fourth version of the film that was put together by fans. There are no sources on the info, nor are there links to where one might be able to obtain this fourth version. Any info on where I can view this film would be appreciated, I'd be interested to check it out, and I'm sure many other fans of the Highlander franchise would too. Cheers!! --Kensane (talk) 11:37, 12 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

List of science fiction film and television series by lengths edit

Could someone from the project please weigh in at List of science fiction film and television series by lengths as to whether Highlander is science fiction? An IP added the Highlander films to the list; unfortunately, another editor reverted, it was restored by a third editor (and so on). I've restored it for the time being, but would like to invite someone who knows the material to comment. (I don't care either way; this post is as an admin.) Thanks in advance. --Ckatzchatspy 06:50, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I answered on the article's talk page. Rosenknospe (talk) 08:59, 24 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Highlander: The Game edit

Was recently removed off pre-order lists and the release date(s) where revoked. Trying to find some sources to ref for the article. Any help is appreciated. Hooper (talk) 15:55, 11 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have added some but couldn't find much. Looks like the game is pretty doomed at the moment, from where I'm standing. Rosenknospe (talk) 12:00, 12 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Sadly I think you're right. They refunded my pre-order (wasn't even going to play it, but wanted it for the collection). I guess I'd actually have to be immortal to see it released eventually. Such is the life of a Highlander fan though. Still waiting on the other two films in the Source trilogy.......... But back to wikiness, thanks for trying. New DVD edit

Highlander: Reunion [1]. Anyone know anymore about this? Hooper (talk) 21:20, 21 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hmmm... Didn't they do that for a Highlander Worldwide convention ? Or something. ;D No, sorry, I don't know anything about it. Have a nice day, Rosenknospe (talk) 20:47, 25 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Highlander character infobox edit

Hello, there. I'm going to list Tessa Noel for GAC in the close future, and I noticed the Template:Highlander character infobox doesn't work for mortal characters. Compare for example Tessa and Darius:

(Right, the boxes display in a strange way for some reason, but bear with me, okay?)

Note that the "Found" parameter doesn't work for Tessa. It's a parameter intended for immortal characters and thus doesn't display here, which leads to information loss (Tessa's dates are here, but don't show). Though at this time I cannot guarantee I can make a GA of either Charlie DeSalvo or Maurice Lalonde, we'll need the template at least for Joe Dawson, so it has to work for everyone.

So, what I propose would be that the "age" and "found" parameters be dropped and be replaced by "birth date" and "death date" parameters, showing their respectives dates of birth and/or death. This would have the additional advantage of enabling us to use Template:birth date and age and Template:death date and age where applicable, thus displaying the age without the need of a parameter and automating the age count in the process instead of people having to do it by hand every year.

I'm not sure we need the "alias" and "watchers" parameters either, because they look rather crufty to me, but I'm open to your comments.

I also think we could replace the "movies" and "seasons" parameters by a single "appearances" parameter where we could list the works in which the character appeared. That would be in my opinion more simple of use.

The new box would look something like this:

Highlander character
(Fair use images not allowed here)
Darius
Born 130 B.C
Immortality 92 B.C
Died 1993 AD
Mentor Ahasuerus the Parthian
Pupils Duncan MacLeod
Portrayed by Werner Stocker
Appearances "Band of Brothers", "For Tomorrow We Die", "The Beast Below", "Saving Grace", "The Hunters"

This template has been discussed before; in this discussion Arcayne introduced the term "Found" for Immortals because they are supposed to be all orphans and thus found on a certain date, but we don't know when they are born. I would like to stress out that I'm not discussing this point again here. Independently of whether Immortals are foundlings or not, I'm trying to make this template work for all characters, immortals and mortals, on a technical point of view, which is why I deemed the word "born" more practical in my proposal.

Questions ? Comments ? Thoughts ? Let's start the discussion ! Have a nice day, Rosenknospe (talk) 11:54, 13 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

It was months ago when the 'birth vs. found' discussion was made, and I've had ample time to reflect upon it. I have come the conclusion that the discussion of a lot of this is rather non-notable and crufty, not to mention a bit of synthesis. Unless someone is quoting a notable source we are not privy to here, the date of death is being extrapolated from the broadcast date of the episode, and we have no basis to determine dates within the episodes. We are also extrapolating the age for the characters (with the exception of those whose age is stated in the episode/film in which they meet final death).
I appreciate the attention to detail offered by Rosenknospe, but I am thinking that the dates are as largely superfluous and unnecessary as is the coloring of the infobox. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 14:40, 13 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Rosen always does great work, and I support whatever decisions he may make in regards to this. Hooper (talk) 22:40, 13 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your kind words, both of you. Arcayne, you are absolutely right to ask for reliable sources, and in this case the dates are provided in the Watcher chronicles on the DVDs of each season of the series. This is where I got the ones for Darius and Tessa. Darius' dates are actually referenced in his article, I just removed them when I copied the box here because there are no reference list on this page. The chronicles count as DVD bonus material, which are widely accepted as sources for Featured Articles, see for example Khan Noonien Singh, Jack Sparrow and Bart Simpson. So I think we can safely use them as sources here. I hope this addresses your objection. I have no opinion about the coloring and no objection if it is dropped. Have a nice day, Rosenknospe (talk) 14:20, 14 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
So you are saying that the DVD sections deliver exactly this info as to birth and death? What I mean is, are we taking the date of death from the date of broadcast, or from an actual dating which indicates such? If its the former, my original reticence remains. If it is cited (and I agree that citing video is acceptable, so long as it can be verified), then there isn't really a problem.
And I am glad that we are of a mind to remove the infobox coloring. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 19:19, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes, the info actually comes from the bonus material on the DVD, not from any extrapolation from the episode. For example, on my copy of Highlander season one (Anchor Bay Entertainment, 2001), the bonus material includes a page about Tessa, describing her character, that she is an artist and MacLeod's lover, etc., and which very clearly says, "Born : 24 August 1958", and then "Shot and killed in a random mugging incident 23 October 1993." (As a side note, the episode where she died actually first aired on October 18, 1993.)
So can I assume that we have a consensus ? Have a nice day, Rosenknospe (talk) 13:24, 17 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
I think so, yes. Make sure to cite each date appropriately, though. Someone will almost assuredly attack the veracity of it otherwise. - Arcayne (cast a spell) 15:50, 17 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

4x14: Deliverance Goof edit

Is the "goof" mentioned in Episodes_of_Highlander_(season_4)#Deliverance really accurate? I can't find any references confirming the mistake, and there have been several quickenings that made it appear as if it had suddenly become night, some of which reverted to day immediately afterward and some did not. Remake edit

Should we start preparing for the remake at all? I'm sure a lot of incorrect information is going to continue being placed on the wiki about it. Hooper (talk) 00:29, 6 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Request for comment on Biographies of living people edit

Hello Wikiproject! Currently there is a discussion which will decide whether wikipedia will delete 49,000 articles about a living person without references, here:

Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people

Since biographies of living people covers so many topics, nearly all wikiproject topics will be effected.

The two opposing positions which have the most support is:

 1. supports the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, User:Jehochman
 2. opposes the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, except in limited circumstances, User:Collect

Comments are welcome. Keep in mind that by default, editor's comments are hidden. Simply press edit next to the section to add your comment.

Please keep in mind that at this point, it seems that editors support deleting unreferenced article if they are not sourced, so your project may want to pursue source these articles as soon as possible. See the next, message, which may help..

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal edit

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject X is live! edit

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

A new newsletter directory is out! edit

A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.
