Wiki Indaba 2021 is here!
Hosted by the Wikimedia Community User Group Uganda, the first ever virtual Wiki Indaba conference is taking place online from the 5th to the 7th of November 2021 under the theme Rethink + Reset : Visions of the future.
Wiki Indaba 2021 is a unique opportunity to come together to build the capacity of African Wikimedians both within the continent and the diaspora to foster the growth of the coverage and our involvement in Wikimedia projects.
The call for submissions is open, please submit your session proposal either as a presentation, panel discussion, lightning talk, or workshop before September 24th 2021.
Most importantly, we would like to have you at the conference, please register here to get your free ticket and spread the word to your community members.
Looking forward to seeing you and hearing you speak at the conference.

I have seen this term in the names of some Ghanaian people such as Lesley Opoku Ware, described in the lead and some sources as Oheneba Dr. Lesley Akya Opoku Ware, so it's evidently not a standard kind of a name (as it is put before "Dr."). What does it mean, and perhaps if appropriate could someone add a mention of it to a relevant article and make a redirect? A not-very-reliable-looking source suggests it might mean "prince" or "princess"? Is that so? PamD 13:37, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
- @PamD, Oheneba means "prince" or "princess" in Twi or Akan, that is the direct translation. I believe it is acceptable as it as being used in the redirect page Oheneba Dr. Lesley Opoku Ware. It can be put before "Dr." Aside from it meaning "prince" or "princess", it is also a first name for people in Ghana, just like people naming their children Prince or Princess. - @Ampimd: Thanks: it would be helpful if you or someone else with the sources would create a well-referenced article, or a section within another article, to explain this. User script to detect unreliable sources
I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (
John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)
and turns it into something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.
It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.
The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

User Brillo keeps deleting large edits from Ghanaian Wikipedia pages
The editor Brllo has deleted large amounts of information from pages under the auspices of this Wiki project such as the Ghana page. Some of his deletions conform to wiki's rules but others were deleted because he does not see them fit. Historic personnality statue - in need of picture in Commons
Hello !
I'm a french wikipedian and i'm working on lot of ghanean topics. For example, i did a huge work about Osei Tutu (french wikipedia link), and i'm always in lack of good illustration. I know there are statue of historic personnality in Ghana. For example, (O)komfo Anokye has a representative statue in Kumasi.
Thus, if you live in Ghana and you have the opportunity to take a picture of these representations, could you put them on Commons ?
Btw, if you want to improve ghana topics, i did something like 10 labeled "good article" in french and expanded small article. Do not hesitate to use the traduction tool.

Women in Green's 5th Edit-a-thon
Hello WikiProject Ghana:
WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2023!
Running from October 1 to 31, 2023, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.
