Australian Movie MagazineEdit
From The West Australian Nov 27, 1975 A Cinema Old-Faithful fades out, it was a small piece about the final reel being completed, according to the article they commenced in 1911 making it the longest continous running news reel in the world. If anyone can find any more info to warrant an article call out and I go back and get details of the final cameraman and producer etc. Gnangarra 12:52, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment schemeEdit
- The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
- The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
- A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.
Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.
Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Australian cinemaEdit
Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.
We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.
A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.
We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 22:26, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.
If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the
display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.
WP 1.0 bot announcementEdit
This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 02:52, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Listing all of the unreferenced biographies of living people for your project and Philippe MoraEdit
Philippe Mora, an Australian director, is an unreferenced living person (BLP), so it will probably be deleted if it is not referenced. I have no interest in this subject. While you are waiting for the Wolterbot, could someone please reference it? Thank you.
- List of cleanup articles for your project
I am heartened by this message on this project's page: "A cleanup listing for this task force is available, updated by WolterBot."
In case some editors are members of other projects, and may want to add this to their project, let me explain what WolterBot does.
Cleanup listings is a list of cleanup articles for each wikiproject on one designated page. A bot then collects all relevant tagged unreferenced biographies of living people, plus other lists onto one page in the wikiproject. This bot is updated regularly. As the page states: "Approximately 27% of all Wikipedia articles are flagged for cleanup. To deal with this enormous backlog, it seems reasonable to involve the topical WikiProjects in the cleanup process."
Adding this bot is very easy to add to a project: simply add a template to a new or existing page of the project.
Women's History Month is in MarchEdit
Hi everyone at WikiProject Australian cinema!
Women's history month is around the corner, in March, and we're planning the second WikiWomen's History Month.
This event, which is organized by volunteers from the WikiWomen's Collaborative, supports improving coverage about women's history during the month of March. Events take place both offline and online. We are encouraging WikiProjects to focus on women's history related to their subject for the month of March. Ideas include:
- Improving coverage about Australian women filmmakers, directors, producers, and executives
- Developing content about women owned Australian film businesses

WikiConfererence Australia 2015 - Save the date 3-5 October 2015Edit
Our first Australian conference for Wikipedians/Wikimedians will be held 3-5 October 2015. Organised by Wikimedia Australia, there will be a 2-day conference (Saturday 3 October and Sunday 4 October) with an optional 3rd day (Monday 5 October) for specialist topics (unconference discussions, training sessions, etc). The venue is the State Library of Queensland in Brisbane. So put those dates in your diary! Note: Monday is a public holiday is some states but not others. Read about it here: WikiConference Australia 2015
As part of that page, there are now sections for you to:
- indicate your interest in possibly attending the conference (this is not a binding commitment, of course)
- add suggestions for topics to include in the conference: what you would like to hear/discuss (again, there is no commit to you presenting/organising that topic, although it’s great if you are willing to do so), or indicate your enthusiasm for any existing topic on the list by adding a note of support underneath it
It would really help our planning if you could let us know about possible attendance and the kind of topics that would make you want to come. If you don’t want to express your views on-wiki, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com
We are hoping to have travel subsidies available to assist active Australasian Wikipedians to attend the conference, although we are not currently in a position to provide details, but be assured we are doing everything we can to make it possible for active Australian Wikipedians to come to the conference. - How can you help?
- 1.) Create or improve LGBT-related articles and showcase the results of your work here

Remember, Wiki Loves Pride is about creating and improving LGBT-related content at Wikimedia projects, and content should have a neutral point of view. One does not need to identify as LGBT or any other gender or sexual minority to participate. This campaign is about adding accurate, reliable information to Wikipedia, plain and simple, and all are welcome!
If you have any questions, please leave a message on the campaign's main talk page.
Thanks, and happy editing!
Commentary on sexist, misogynistic and/or anti-feminist feelings at Mad Max: Fury Road articleEdit
Opinions are needed on the following matter: Talk:Mad Max: Fury Road#Should commentary on sexist, misogynistic and/or anti-feminist feelings be included? A WP:Permalink for it is here. Flyer22 (talk) 00:08, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
Film archive in Australia?Edit
Hi guys. I'm currently working on improving the article for the Australian film Isabelle Eberhardt (film). The film was not popular, and accordingly was never given a home media release. There appears to be no way to purchase a copy of the film today. As i've never seen the film, as of yet I cannot write a full plot for it. The articles current, partial plot has been extrapolated from critical reviews of the film, which unfortunately do not give any indication of how the film ends.
I have no knowledge of any efforts within Australia to archive films. Does anyone know of any place that may have a copy of this film? It is my understanding that the National Library keeps a copy of everything published in print in Australia. Is a similar collection of screened material kept anywhere? Or does anyone have any suggestions for how I could go about viewing this film?
The film was available, for a time, on Amazon Video, though is currently listed as unavailable there . Despite what Netflix fan-sites will tell you the film is not, and has never been, available on Netflix. I've uncovered that the rights to the film have been acquired by Westchester Films , though they have not replied to my email requesting a way to purchase a copy from them. Freikorp (talk) 13:54, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
- I've since managed to track down a copy of this film, but if anyone knows if there are any efforts to archive films in Australia I'd still be interested in hearing about it. Freikorp (talk) 09:18, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
