Wikipedia talk:Tambayan Philippines/Philippine history task force

Oh, hello. edit

So there's finally a WikiProject Philippine History. I'm a bit surprised at its seeming sudden appearance... might I ask if there have been previous wiki/talk discussions about putting it up? That'd be useful for determining how we would interact with the Parent project/ Tambayan . Also, I was thinking, either the Lapu Lapu, Rizal, or Bonifacio monuments might be better banner images than the NHI building. Just a thought. :D - Alternativity (talk) 11:59, 24 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Change in banner image done. I don't have enough time to expand its coverage though. However, I am looking forward to this project to focus on the status of Philippine History articles, because most online Filipinos will usually be directed here concerning our nation's history. What do you think? Arius1998 (talk) 05:12, 7 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Quality class table linking to an obsolete (and perhaps incorrect) document edit

In the B anc C class criteria descriptions is a link to Wikipedia:WikiProject Ships/Tables. This document is obsolete. Does it really apply here or is this simply a copy/paste oversight?

Tagging more articles edit

Greetings. I saw that there has been a lag in tagging articles relevant to this task force. While there might have been some progress, from around 80 to some 130 articles, it is assumed that there may be more history articles out there that needed to be tagged so they can also be monitored further. Please help in this endeavor. Arius1998 (talk) 04:48, 1 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Tagged the article Battle of Manila (1405) as hoax edit

My reasons are explained in the talk page. In summary, the sources aren't reliable because one is an opinion piece while the other doesn't mention anything at all about the supposed 1405 battle. There is also lack of available secondary sources ("significant coverage"), making the article not follow the notability standards. Anyone who reads it are invited to contribute to the discussion on the future of that article. I nominate for its deletion because it promotes falsehoods and has zero basis in facts. Request for information on WP1.0 web tool edit

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:23, 27 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

History during the early part of WW-II edit

I am a frequent editor of articles about the Philippines -- mainly re the period c. 1896—1916. I have no academic credentials but, having lived in the Philippines for a couple of decades, I do have some interest and I've done a lot of reading. Aside from that, in making a couple of edits today to articles outside of this time period ([1], [2]), I noticed that the history of the Philippines during the early WW-II period appears to be sparsely and spottily covered in Wikipedia except as a sidelight in US-centric articles (e.g., Douglas MacArthur's escape from the Philippines, Wendell Fertig -- those examples were pretty randomly chosen). The Commonwealth of the Philippines article barely mentions the Quezon's evacuation or the commonwealth's government in exile either in the lead or in the World War II section, and the Military history of the Philippines during World War II article is very US-centric. Perhaps there is more coverage of this from the Philippine perspective in Wikipedia than I have seen. If so, it ought to be easier to find. If coverage is as sparse as it seems to me, some detail articles ought to be written and WP:SS wikilinked (from, for example, List of governments in exile during World War II). At a minimum, that Commonwealth of the Philippines article ought to have a section about the WW-II government in exile which can be linked directly from that List of article until a {{main article}} giving that topic proper coverage is written. I'm not really equipped to tackle this, so I thought I would bring it up here. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 15:43, 10 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

I have created Draft:Government in exile of the Commonwealth of the Philippines. Currently, this only contains the barest of a barebones article skeleton. I intend to flesh out these bones as I have time and, presuming that this develops into something usable, at some future time to move this into mainspace as a new article and/or to redo some portion of it as a section in the Commonwealth of the Philippines article. Contributions from other editors who know more about this topic than I are welcome. Wtmitchell (talk) (earlier Boracay Bill) 08:51, 11 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

I don't own enough books to do this as regularly as I'd like, but I will try, if I'm considered welcome. At least it's not as controversial as some other eras of Ph history. :D Or at least I don't know it to be so. - Alternativity (talk) 09:19, 11 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I'll probably add some content to the draft article there from what info I've dug up online in the past couple of days to provide some info to get started with. I'm copying this section as it now stands to the talk page for that draft article. Once I've done that, I'll make any further comments there.
