This month:

CollaborationKit: a new tool for building WikiProjects
What if making WikiProjects was this easy?

During the last issue of the newsletter, which was nine months ago (sorry!), we discussed an extension in development called CollaborationKit.

We are pleased to announce that a version is ready for public testing. Please check out our demo wiki.

Some benefits CollaborationKit brings to WikiProject creation and maintenance:

  • Easy-to-use forms for building "Collaboration Hubs," which are project landing pages that can be used for WikiProjects, edit-a-thons, etc.
  • Auto-updating member lists so that you can readily see who is active and who is not – and you can join WikiProjects in just one click.
  • New Collaboration List functionality lets you develop lists of articles to work on and them selectively transclude them on other pages, reducing clutter.
  • If you are a bot developer, Collaboration Hubs and Collaboration Lists store their content as JSON, separating the data from its presentation. This makes it easier than ever to develop bots for WikiProjects – no wiki markup parsing required!

We do invite you to check out the demo wiki, linked above.

If you are interested in trying this out for your WikiProject, we would like to hear from you. If this does not work for you, we understand – WikiProjects have many needs and requirements, and there is no way we can guarantee that one solution can work for everyone. That said, if there are adjustments we can make that would make this work for you, we would be eager to hear.

Until next time,
