June 13 edit

I recently submitted an article that was declined because "This submission's references do not adequately evidence the subject's notability."

George Fisher Linfield has a college named after him. Linfield College is one of the highest ranked private colleges in the country, and consistently is ranked as one of the best colleges in the western United states. It is among the oldest colleges west of the Mississippi River. I would think that the person for whom a reputable college is named would be notable enough to include on Wikipedia. For example, the men for whom Johns Hopkins, Rice and Cornell Universities have articles.

What else can be done to get this article approved? — Preceding unsigned comment added by N.M.Sheedy (talkcontribs) 04:12, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The issue isn't whether a college was named after Linfield but whether Linfield has been the subject of significant coverage in reliable third-party sources. Linfield seems to receive coverage only in a single context - because his wife donated $250,000 to the college decades after Linfield's death. The Rochester General Catalogue is trivial coverage of all their alumni, Findagrave is considered not reliable, the other sources are histories of Linfield College that don't cover Linfield in any detail. In short, I don't think someone can buy another person's notability. Huon (talk) 13:02, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I submitted this page two days ago, but it appears that a new page with very limited information for Dave Joerger was created today. I copied and pasted everything from my draft to that one, so I'm not sure if I should leave my proposed page or delete it?

Eryan89 (talk) 04:40, 13 June 2013 (UTC)Eryan89[reply]

Hi Eryan. That's fine - I have declined the submission, I don't think it needs to be deleted. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 07:57, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Nixon (filmmaker) edit

The page I keep creating keeps getting rejected and speedily deleted. What do I need to do to make sure the page is created?

Rhnixon (talk) 11:55, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article Robert Nixon (filmmaker) was deleted twice, once for being blatant spam and once for being, worse, a copyright violation. The draft Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Robert Nixon (filmmaker) was declined for being empty; it had no content beyond the submission template. Wikipedia content should be based on reliable sourceds that are independent of Nixon, and you should summarize in your own words what those sources have to say about him. Since your username suggests you have a conflict of interest, though, it might be best if you don't write the article yourself but wait until someone not associated with Nixon does so. Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/5rooms.com

Hi,

I created the article and got declined on the following:

"This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified. If you need help with referencing, please see Referencing for beginners and Citing sources."

So I improved the article by adding more references.

Can you please look into this?

I do have references even from Yahoo news.

Thank you Pioneercpt (talk) 13:28, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article is submitted for another review, but it still heavily relies on primary sources such as their own website. In particular 5rooms.com seems to be the only one who bothers about their "focus on customer care". I'd also get rid of the "Publications and media" section which has just a bunch of trivial passing mentions. Alexa isn't really significant coverage either, and "a significant percentage of its users being under the age of 45" is your personal opinion. Interviews with 5rooms.com people aren't quite as independent as we'd like our sources to be. Huon (talk) 16:38, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Spam on Feedback edit

I was on the feedback page, and a lot of people just put up silly “feedback”. To take an example, ABUO OBEIDA T A R B A KK H, an empty section with no content. Others put up their AfC nominations, to take another example,

Anyway, edit

There's also some blanks, such as this section. Feedback from 59.97.104.199 (17 May 2013) There's nonsense, like Feedback from 121.7.198.241 (5 May 2013) Everything is fake

At worst, there's outright offensive things, like this section. I'll just say its name, Johnny Star. Anyway, some IPs make good feedback, but some just spam, so if no one disagrees, I'll request Pending changes Level 1. (The reason I put this here is because on the talk, it said only for members, or something like that.) Darrman (talk) 15:30, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, no one has responded in over an hour, so I'll request PC1 on the feedback. Darrman (talk) 16:30, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think pending changes is the way to go. That page is explicitly meant for new editors to give feedback; hiding that feedback is counterproductive. People write nonsense, so what? That doesn't seem to require any kind of reaction. Huon (talk) 16:38, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! This account is the official wiki account at AEBR and was wondering if we could somehow verify ourselves in order to prove that this account is official under the AEBR name. We would like to upload pictures of ours that are of copyright nature under AEBR´s name. Thank-you for your help into how we can verify our account as the official AEBR account. Thank-you! Aebr2013 (talk) 16:07, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • You can't do that. In fact, I'm blocking this account since this is not acceptable under our user name policy. Wikipedia articles don't work by way of "official" editors, and there need be no "official" name to upload images. You are welcome to register a new account name, which must suggest that one editor is responsible, not a group thereof. Thank you, Drmies (talk) 16:09, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

type in the subject line edit

Hello, I have a new page that is pending review. I would like to change the subject line as there is a typo in it? Can I do that while it is being reviewed or is there a way do this after its in the stage? Please advise and thanks in advance! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Elasnyde (talkcontribs) 18:56, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There certainly is! Just mouse over the little arrow in the upper-right hand corner, immediately to the left of the search bar, and then click "move."

It looks like this

I don't think Elasnyde can do that yet? --Demiurge1000 (talk) 19:13, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Another way is to put {{afc comment|Please change the title from TYPOEDTYTLE to CORRECTTITLE when this submission is accepted. Thanks. ~~~~}} above the first line of the content of your submission, but below any {{afc submssion...}} or other {{afc comment...}} lines that might e above the content of your submission. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 04:12, 14 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I am curious about the lengthy review process. I submitted Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Perception Software over a week ago. In the meantime, how can I edit the article to make it more attainable for acceptance. Thank you for your consideration. Darrylpsw (talk) 22:09, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Reviews are currently taking between one and three weeks because of the large backlog.
You can edit the page by clicking the Edit button at the top of the page, next to View History. Then save your changes - remember to include an Edit Summary. Editing the submission does not delay its review; in fact, it might speed it up. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 22:31, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
