Unused template since a while ago per the previous TFD. We're three years down the road and no other effort has been employed to use a template like this. Izno (talk) 23:40, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Links to only three essays, where one link is a redirect. From the category for the project, there are only four essay pages. But navboxes are not for essays for specific projects and if they were, it would still fail the requirements that navboxes are to be used for navigating between articles, not essays. The Wikipedia Essay template is not similar to this, as those essays relate to the broader scope about Wikipedia-related topics, not specific to a project. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 20:01, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep. There is no such requirement. Navboxes provide an easy way to link sets of pages. – Jonesey95 (talk) 02:18, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Just because there is no such requirement doesn't mean it has reason to stay. You're gonna need to provide why this template is beneficial. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 02:23, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep: Other than what Jonesey95 has said this is one of the largest WikiProjects and essay template is in scope, --Titodutta (talk) 06:03, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Titodutta, the project being one of the largest is not of relevance here. The issue is that the template doesn't fulfill its navigational prupose. Since there are four essays, how could having a template like this help members of the project? Couldn't it be better to link them as a list on the main page of the project? --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 15:38, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hello, thanks for your comment. I don't think my message is completely understood, or probably I need to explain it a little bit more: what I meant is- this is one of the largest WikiPorjects and linked the main category. With several projects, initiatives conducted, being conducted more links can be added in the template. What I did not want to do, adding a few links right away. Regards. --Titodutta (talk) 01:44, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The size of the project has nothing to do with this template. The template is in the scope of the project but you have not addressed the concern of the nomination. You could only add one more link to the template as there are currently three out of the four essays linked. But I don't see the navigation this is supposed to provide. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 01:48, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think you're confusing the nomination with the template below or you're not understanding anything at all. Please reread the nomination. This has nothing to do with the India project as a whole. Just something that doesn't seem beneficial to the project. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 15:14, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep: Obviously, as above. As there is no such requirement. OP is making up his own rules and enforcing them through mass AfDs without getting any consensus. WikiCleanerMan, Everytime you get such strange ideas, please get them vetted from the community at the WP:VP or other relvant place, before enforcing them and wasting everyone's time. --Venkat TL (talk) 10:32, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
PA's won't work well and you don't understand how these discussion formats work. This is a place to get consensus. You're only voting to keep that has nothing to do with the nomination as you have done multiple times elsewhere and to make false accusations. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 17:56, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep: Has usage in the WikiProject as well as individual's talk pages. Unless a WikiProject is defunct, I generally think only a WikiProject should delete/groom its materials. And even then {{Archived}} tag can be used to preserve historic documents. In this case, it's very much useful. Adding one additional essay without a template would require searching multiple places/adding it, without a central way to do that, nor discuss the relevance of inclusion/exclusion of any specific essays. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 14:46, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Template:India quick links edit

The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of the template(s) or module(s) below. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the template's talk page or in a deletion review).

A navbox that links to the various India-related project pages but is primarily used on user talk pages for some reason. Navboxes are for articles and there are no articles here. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 19:55, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Jonesey here. Navboxes can be used for collection of pages that aren't only articles and as long as they serve a useful purpose then they are doing their job. Gonnym (talk) 01:01, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's mostly on user talk pages. Only used on one or two India project pages. Don't see the usefulness of it when on each project page there is already a infobox that links the same project pages already. I think a full list of template types that are not just for articles need to be provided. I'm not aware of projects using navboxes such as this. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 01:05, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There is always much to learn at Wikipedia. Today is the day that WikiCleanerMan learns about projects that use navboxes exactly like this one. – Jonesey95 (talk) 02:15, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
All are very problematic. Most are used on talk pages of users which I don't understand why it's there. Some are not even used. This one and the rest don't seem to be good use of template space. I don't think navigation between the project and its task force was something needing a navbox. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 02:20, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
When I encounter something that I do not understand on Wikipedia, and then someone explains it to me, and I still don't understand, I leave it alone. Someone not understanding why a particular page or set of pages exists is not a valid deletion criterion. – Jonesey95 (talk) 03:42, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Jonesey95, it's not that I don't understand and have made up random deletion criteria. You have misunderstood. The reason this template should be deleted is because the navigational aspect is not used or provided. Aside from linking to the WikiProject pages, can you figure out why they're transcluded on the talk pages of user's instead of project spaces? The template is not fulfilling its purpose. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 15:33, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Speedy keep: This template is important, just giving a personal example, you can see the template on my user page also (it has been there for quite sometime). This has a comprehensive list of all important pages related to the project, and is very helpful for project maintenance/monitoring. --Titodutta (talk) 06:06, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Titodutta, then why are they on user talk pages instead of on project spaces for the majority of transclusions? --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 15:33, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, I am responding below where Gonnym is discussing the same. Regards. --Titodutta (talk) 02:00, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: even though I argued that navboxes can be used for non-article sets of pages. I've looked deeper into this one. This seems to be spammed by editors like Gurubrahma and Pamri on random user's talk pages without any additional discussion. Additionally, the pages themselves do not use these navboxes which mean that WP:BIDIRECTIONAL isn't followed and navigation does not work correctly. To be honest, this current situation is bad either way. I would however argue that the talk page message should have been subst and not transcluded. Gonnym (talk) 11:10, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Gonnym, The same is true for those other quick links for other wikiprojects. They're on a massive amount of talk pages than on project pages. Which doesn't make a lot of sense. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 15:33, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that there is too much noise sort this out. I support at the minimum substing the talk page spam. This clearly was not asked by any user and it gives the wrong impression as if this template has many more usages than it does (there are ~70 non user talk usages compared to the 1.5k total). Gonnym (talk) 15:50, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think substituting them on talk pages is a solution. Maybe a bot command could remove them from there if this were to be kept, but there already exists a project infobox that has the same amount of links at Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Navigation. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 16:04, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hello Gonnym and WikiCleanerMan, it looks like this was added on user talk pages with an unclear reason. I checked a few talk pages and it shows the edits were made in around 2005/2006. Now in 2022, it might look unclear, I am not sure what were the circumstances or if there was some discussion in 2006. Possibly that was the time the WikiProject was being formed, and Wikipedia itself was much different than what it is today. Anyway, now it looks like those talk page template usages do not make sense. I have two observations: a) fix it (I am not sure if we should fix so old edits on talk, however I don't mind), and b) ~61 (+a few on WP namespace) usage are valid. There are people here who have told that the template is useful to them for navigation. Regards --Titodutta (talk) 02:00, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep The template provides useful links to users who are interested in WP:INDIA, as the title says. I cannot answer why it was included in user talk pages. I do use it on my user page for a "quick navigation", which probably is the supposed use (along with WP:BIDIRECTIONAL transclusions if useful.) — DaxServer (talk) 17:48, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Just send them an invite. Mass adding a template to talk pages gives it the impression is being used for a purpose for the project, but it's not really. It should be removed from the talk pages and added to the project pages since that is the more relevant space for it. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 17:58, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No transclusions. This navbox contains an unpredictable mix of links to categories and list articles, which may violate WP:EGG. Proper functionality is already provided by {{United States topic}}, as used at the bottom of List of places in Maine. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:28, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No transclusions, and appears infeasible as a horizontal timeline. Abandoned after a single edit in June 2021. Appears to be single-article content that could work as a vertical timeline at List of justices of the Supreme Court of Georgia (U.S. state), but nothing here is usable for that. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:18, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete as an abandoned attempt. There's no way a horizontal timeline for this sort of thing could ever be useful for navigation. Vast amounts of scrolling would be required. As noted there's a perfectly useable list article which does the job. Nigej (talk) 16:27, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No trancslusions. Fails WP:NAVBOX: no main article about the topic. Has only one link to a relevant page (List of Sri Lankan poets). – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:15, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment There's quite a few Sri Lankan poets in the article noted and in Sri Lankan literature but whether an expansion including a list of names would be useful is not clear to me. One problem is that there's no real parent article that binds the poets together, other than these 2 lists. Nigej (talk) 16:31, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No transclusions. All red links except for the manager. The fact that these articles do not exist is probably evidence of systemic bias and Euroamerican male hegemony, on Wikipedia, but nevertheless, it's too soon for this template. I'm happy for it to be userfied until it is ready, since it took some work to create and will probably be useful once the articles exist. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:59, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Userfy per nom. The parent article Mazatlán F.C. (women) has the squad which is currently 100% red links. Let's have a handful of articles before we even consider a navbox. Content first then navbox if required. Nigej (talk) 15:46, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No transclusions, documentation, or incoming links. The code in this template simply counts the number of pages in a group of categories, which can easily be done directly on a project page or category page. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:54, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No transclusions. {{USPopulousCities}} appears to be preferred. – Jonesey95 (talk) 14:42, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete per nom. Clearly we don't need both (it would just be confusing to readers to have both in any article) and currently the other is used. Whether the current content of {{USPopulousCities}} is best, is not really relevant here, but maybe the prose style would be better. Another not really relevant question is whether we need either. The US rank is given in the infobox with a link to List of United States cities by population and I can't see many readers using either navbox for navigation between cities, they'd go to the main article. Navbox contains only 2 articles, too few for a proper navigation box. ZXCVBNM (TALK) 11:25, 11 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
