Original – The supermassive black hole at the centre of Messier 87, as observed by the Event Horizon Telescope (a very long baseline interferometer array) at frequencies of 230–450 GHz. The emission ring has a diameter of 42 micro-arcseconds (672 AU physical distance at 16 megaparsec), and the black hole 7.6 micro-arcseconds (121.6 AU).

  • Support I came to this page to see whether this image had been proposed, and was happy to find it here. This is the best possible image of a black hole for the foreseeable future given that it essentially required a telescope the diameter of the Earth. OtterAM (talk) 22:40, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment There is one possible problem with the image, which is that the color scheme is slightly misleading. In this representation the colors represent intensity of light, not actual color.
