Early lifeEdit

Vijay Antony was born in Nagercoil. His father died when he was seven years old and his sister was four.[2] He graduated at Loyola college of arts and science. They pushed into difficult days and his mother took up a government job to educate the children and support the family. He is the great-grandson of Samuel Vedanayagam Pillai (1826–1889), also known as Mayavaram Vedanayagam Pillai, an Indian civil servant who is remembered for the authorship of Prathapa Mudaliar Charithram, recognized as the first modern Tamil novel.

CareerEdit

Antony made his acting debut in the lead role in the crime thriller Naan. The film's standalone sequel titled Salim, an action thriller, was his next venture as an actor and music director.[3] Both the films were sleeper hits.[4] In 2015, he starred in the romantic comedy India Pakistan but did not compose the music.[4] In 2016, he acted in the action thriller Pichaikkaran (2016), collaborating with his Dishyum director Sasi.[5] It became a commercial success, with overall collections nearing 40 Crore [6].The Telugu version Bichagadu was a Blockbuster in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana with an overall gross of 20 Cr. Its success gave rise to a number of remakes in various languages. It was remade in Odia as Baby starring Anubhav Mohanty, in Marathi as Bhikari starring Swapnil Joshi and in Kannada as Amma I Love You starring Chiranjeevi Sarja.[7] His next was Saithan, an action thriller directed by debutant Pradeep Krishnamurthy.

He appeared in the 2017 political action thriller Yaman directed by Jeeva Shankar. Produced by A. Subaskaran under the banner Lyca Productions, it starred Miya and Thiagarajan in lead roles. The film was released on 24 February 2017. His next film was the action drama Annadurai, the story of two brothers of contrasting characters who live their life as fate plays a big part in their personalities.[8] In 2018, he starred in Kaali, a period action film directed by Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi[9] and Thimiru Pudichavan, an action film directed by Ganeshaa.

In 2019, he starred in Kolaigaran, an action thriller directed by Andrew Louis.[10]He played with Arjun Sarja. He as the investigative cop is fabulous while Vijay Antony, who calls himself a “limited actor”, does a neat job with his deadpan delivery.[11] His next releases scheduled for the year are the action films Agni Siragugal, Thamilarasan and Khaakhi.
