Gérard Depardieu edit

I noticed you did several good editions in the article. I was trying to edit it too, but i got pushed out of it by means of uncivil actions and general bashing at the talk page, so i trust you to try to sustain some quality over there. Good luck, and thanks anyway! -R.Arden (talk) 18:51, 3 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Not sure what is going on there.... Some editors seem a bit to concerned with making no mistakes to me... and are becoming a bit overexcited... and seem te be deleting every bit that they seem suspicious... The IPA pronunciation to Russian was done by me yes. But a later realized it was a mistake since other "immigrants to Russia" (like Inessa Armand) do not have IPA pronunciation to Russian in there Wiki articles (I had expected that they did). Good luck to you too and I hope you are not getting frustrated, remember: we are not the UN, we are Wikipedia! — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 20:30, 3 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
I think we'll get more details on this whole Depardieu issue tomorrow, 'cause now it's close to midnight in Europe. --Victortalk 21:37, 3 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I am usually not editing about things that concern France or Russia.... So I think I will stay away from the article on Gérard Depardieu very soon... I only got involved in an attempt of pacification the talkpage by using a reliable source from CNN & because it is such a strange story.... — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 01:03, 4 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yah, me too. What a fight, both guys were blocked for 31 hrs. GD is drinking a lot, may be it's all just a hoax. --Victortalk 02:25, 4 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I know from own personal experience it can be frustrating when you think you are doing something good on Wikipedia and you get the feeling you are getting sabotaged... But I found out that the editors who where reverting these "edits I could not believed why they where reverted" just wanted to make a better Wikipedia. So I learned to assume good faith.I think one of the problems is that you can not see the other editors.... that makes it easier to assume bad faith I think...

Apparently when you are famous you can lose grip on reality... I think that happened to Depardieu. — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 20:05, 4 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes, "rich and famous"; we'll see soon is this for real or not... --Victortalk 22:41, 4 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Your DYK nomination edit

Hi, regarding your DYK nomination: there's a maximum of 200 characters allowed in a hook. (See WP:DYK#The hook.) Yours, at 297 characters, is well over the limit, so you will have to either supply a new hook, or edit the current one down. Additionally, if the picture is to be used, the hook must incorporate a (pictured), which does not count in the character allowance. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 00:33, 22 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

UEFA Euro 2020 bids edit

So, why is the article not allowed to show cities who bid? A bid is a bid is a bid irregardless of whether it's countries who are allowed to bid or cities who are allowed to bid. Kingjeff (talk) 20:04, 22 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

What I did on Talk:UEFA Euro 2020 was making a suggestion; not an ukaze. Wikipedia:Consensus will decide what is allowed on Wikipedia. I have no desire to decide for others what is not allowed regarding Euro 2020.
UEFA announced on 6 December 2012 that it had made the decision to host the tournament in multiple cities across Europe. I think it would become not handy (if not to say: a complex puzzle) to have information on countries who wanted the whole tournament and cities who want a part of the new set up of the tournament on one page. Besides the bidding for the tournament and for being a host city in the new set up look to me to be 2 different things. — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 20:41, 22 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

The earlier name? edit

The Verkhovna Rada (English transliteration from Ukrainian: Верховна Рада) is claimed to be the present-day name of the Ukrainian parliament, but what was the name earlier, 1938-1990? --212.226.40.176 (talk) 11:21, 23 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I just adjusted Verkhovna Rada to your wishes  . — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 20:43, 24 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

How it is possible, that parliament was 1938-1990 in Ukrainian: Верховна рада, Verkhovna rada and in [Supreme Soviet or Supreme Council] Error: {{Lang-xx}}: text has italic markup (help), but now, when the name is still in Ukrainian: Верховна Рада, in English it would be only a transliteration from the Ukrainian name Verkhovna Rada? --212.226.59.248 (talk) 02:56, 26 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I don't make up these common English names for European parliaments (if so I would call the Russian one the "Putin fan club parliament" and the Ukrainian one "sometimes it almost looks like a parliament parliament"). But on Wikipedia we have no choose then to use common English names. And Verkhovna Rada is the common English name for the Verkhovna Rada. — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 22:49, 29 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Falsification of the article "Criminal cases against Tymoshenko in 2010" edit

This article (Criminal cases against Yulia Tymoshenko since 2010) is no neutral. I am the author of this article in the Ukrainian and Russian Wiki.

Dear, Yulia Romero. What's going on? You faking article "Criminal cases against Yulia Tymoshenko since 2010". You specify "all the terrible accusations from Yanukovych" - with a look that is true. But you throw the fact that 90% of criminal cases had collapsed.

I say that Yulia Romero falsifies this article in the interest of the parties Yanukovych. And trying to create a view that Tymoshenko guilty of the absurd deeds. ** See Wiki Ukrainian and Russian, which provides a true picture - this opinion the U.S. government, the European Union, Russia, global democratic organizations.--Vles1 (talk) 11:26, 24 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Please read Pedagogy of the Oppressed; in that book Paulo Freire states that oppressed people waste there time in fighting people who do them no harm and in doing so waste energy. Energy they should use for fighting there real troubles. You will benefit a lot by reading this book. I did not (at least not deliberately) do what I am accused of above. Kostyantyn edits edit

Hi Yulia, Firstly i would like to thank you for my welcome message it was very informative. I have been working on the Kostyantyn page we have both been recently editing though i have not yet made the information i have sourced live, i have noticed that you have recently added information about his political career which i have also worked on. I have a indepth draft ready to go live it will overlap with some of the information that you recently added so i will take that out and add to mine to get a better finished product. I also sent a email do you about the name to see your opinion on that matter. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the advice on the first page i have been working on heavily.

Thanks Lazarus. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LazarusSokolov (talkcontribs) 17:15, 5 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Go ahead with your draft; the current Kostyantyn Hryshchenko article is not that great...   Thank you for your thank you! I am now a bit puzzled what to do with the Hryshchenko or Gryshchenko naming of the article; I checked at BBC News and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty websites and they continue to use "Hryshchenko" (they are reliable English-language sources).... Maybe it is best to ask other editors with a Wikipedia Requested move.
By the way; I have been wondering what happened with Pora! (the political party; I know that OPORA (the protest group) still exists); did Pora! participate in the 2012 elections? — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 18:13, 5 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ihor Kolomoyskyi edit

Hello,

I've recently corrected the article with most undoubtful facts which are of common knowledge here in Ukraine (like his business scope and place of residence). Maybe you could find time to support them with proper media references. Some information can be harvested at Privat Group. You're known as very prolific and reliable editor when it comes to sources. Thank you, and happy edits. Ukrained2012 (talk) 09:13, 14 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Oh, and you indeed were right when ridiculing my "activist" wording regarding him. What better synonyms could we find to describe his money-baggish and lobbyist Jewish community role? Organizer? Leader? Humbly relying on your help with this one too. Ukrained2012 (talk) 09:18, 14 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your kind words; I'll see if I want to make time (actually I have been wanting to cut back on my activities here for some time... but always seem to find something that seems to be immediately fixed...).

I always use Thesaurus when I need a synonym... It says lobbyist. I think "Jewish community lobbyist" does describe his. I was at the opening of the $60 Million Jewish Center, Holocaust Memorial (for some reason Israeli media does not use the Ukrainian name of the city...) in Dnipropetrovsk build by him (actually the only English sentence in the whole building was a sentence that stated that... although the staff did speak English) and at the time failed to see how it was suppose to help Ukrainian Jews... (unless Kolomoyskyi's goal is to get Jews disliked in Ukraine; I also visited some children orphanages later in 2012 (in Ukraine) and they would love to have gotten some money from Kolomoyskyi (I am sure you can build a Jewish Center/Holocaust Memorial in Dnipropetrovsk for less then $10 Million)). Same goes for the Victor Pinchuk Art Centre in Kyiv.... Needless to say: I left the Dnipropetrovsk Jewish Center/Holocaust Memorial frustrated....

Criminal cases against Yulia Tymoshenko since 2011 at DYK edit

I have been trying to review Template:Did you know nominations/Criminal cases against Yulia Tymoshenko since 2011 without real success. I have read through Wikipedia:Neutral point of view/Noticeboard#Criminal cases against Yulia Tymoshenko since 2010. I made a comment at Wikipedia talk:Did you know#DYK hooks need reviewing which I will quote here:

Criminal cases against Yulia Tymoshenko since 2011 This is a highly political article that seems to be well-sourced. The many single-sentence sections and paragraphs, however, make it hard to read. The tone of the whole article seems to be the western perspective on Ukrainian politics using the Tymoshenko trials as its vehicle. I don't think it is balanced but I find it hard to judge this accurately. See also Russian Wikipedia article which is tagged for neutrality too

I am not sure what to do. I have tried but I feel unable to pass this article for DYK. Whilst I understand why you have used many citations in some instances, I find such use of multiple citations, for single sentences or small paragraphs, distracting. I perhaps feel that the whole article could do with a more summary style; i.e. less detail, less sections. In addition, the lead should summarise the article more clearly. Everything in the lead should be mentioned in the article and therefore the lead should not need citations. See WP:LEAD.

I had considered nominating the article as an AfD so that other editors could help me judge it as a suitably encyclopaedic article. I suspect the article would easily pass the AfD process and there would be good feedback.

I will not pass or fail the article for DYK nor will I nominate it as an AfD. I thought, however, you might welcome my thoughts. Thank you for your time --Senra (talk) 12:28, 19 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your efforts. The problem with this kind of articles is that most people tend to shy away from it.... (for it being to complicated, not fun and it desires a lot of foreknowledge). One of the reasons I had it going trough DYK is to get other editors involved (but so far only 2 other editors then me significantly contributed to the article...). I will give it another go at Portal:Ukraine/Ukraine-related Wikipedia notice board.
The problem with not using multiple citations is that it might look POV... The problem with less detail is lack of substance... Although I appreciate your solutions for me they have downsides... I do myself have a western perspective on Ukrainian politics so unless we get a lot of non-westerners on-board.... Besides not mentioning the Alleged "crackdown of opposition" in Ukraine would reduce the information on the context of events in the article seriously I think. I did do (try to) fix the lead according to your observations.
I do consider the AfD to much of a nuclear option (besides one is not guaranteed useful comments there either....).
The Russian Wikipedia article tagging for neutrality might have something to do with the desire by some Russians to talk smack about anything vaguely Orange (so I do not take that serious myself). Tymoshenko was one of the leaders of the Orange Revolution.
Anyhow I am a bit done/fed up with the article myself by now... It is all very complicated and for me it looks like all the cases against her seem designed to be confusing (and to confuse people)... I hope you don't mind but I want to cut back on my contributions to Wikipedia for now so I can explore other hobbies and time waste  . So thanks again and adiós for now. — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 19:00, 19 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Please do not get disheartened because of me. It is only my opinion. I did try hard to review the article and because of that I felt you deserved to know my thoughts. I am sure another review will pop along soon. Good luck with it --Senra (talk) 00:49, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Don't worry; it has nothing to do with you (in fact I would like to see more people like you on Wikipedia!). And I don't feel disheartened but I have been wanting to cut back on my time on Wikipedia for a few weeks now... But always managed to find something that seemed in need of immediate action... But I have stopped looking for those now... So I will soon stay away from Wikipedia for a long time (I hope) to pursue my other hobbies that I could not work on because I spended my time on Wikipedia... — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 00:58, 20 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

About TVi edit

Yes, TVi as we knew it is dead, there was a VERY controversial switch of owners, most people assume this was a planned raid, as happens often in Ukraine. After that, some censorship arose and almost all journalists striked and then gone from the channel (as they did not want to be involved in censored news broadcasts). Their projects closed. Now this "full restart" and "fight for ratings", I assume, will just bring more entertainment shows and reduce the cultural, political and social talkings. And yes, I will remove that Programming section and fill it with new programs, when it will be know for sure, what programs will be shown on channel in future. --MAXXX-309 (talk) 12:27, 13 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Julia, just flagging up that when you edited the above page back in February you were adding some refs but only added the first part of one: ref name="They Call Themselves the Opposition" with no accompanying URL. If you remember what the ref is (personally I wouldn't!) then you might like to add it, but in the meantime I've removed the fragment to keep things tidy. Talk:Rinat Akhmetov#Akhmetov is not Jewish edit

This is coming late, but if you want to hear a response, yes, ethnic prejudice certainly isn't that rare an occurrence in Ukraine. Historically, it's been against Russians, Jews and Poles (москалі, жиди й ляхи). This xenophobia now is a correlate of the nationalist and neo-fascist movements that have sprung up since the Declaration of Independence in 1991, particularly of the social-nationalist movement. The epicenter is Galicia, Western Ukraine. The Chief Rabbi of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, where I'm living now, has been once threatened with a gun in the middle of the street. Actually, I've been assaulted on the same grounds here myself. So am I “being a boy who cried wolf”? Of course I don't want to exaggerate, but I honestly wouldn't venture to come out of my house here wearing my Star of David necklace. You know, it's just kinda hard to feel safe when you walk into a Holocaust memorial cemetery and see it vandalized with swastikas or, for that matter, if you walk into a local administrative institution and see a Stepan Bandera portrait ostentatiously hanging in the center. EIN (talk) 15:40, 20 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for this inside info. I was already afraid these international commissions (as European Commission against Racism and Intolerance) do not get the complete picture and since I is not living in Ivano-Frankivsk (or in any other Halychynian town) I am aware I never get the complete picture either... (I must admit; I think that it is impossible to get the complete picture on anything related to humans... Since we are so complex ). Best of luck there. — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 17:55, 20 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome, and thanks. On second thought, I don't want you to think it's all that bad here. It's not like there are pogroms going on here. There are Jewish public figures in Ukraine such as Tabachnyk and Kolomoyskyi, whom you've mentioned yourself, etc. Most people are much more likely to display curiosity than hostility. That's all the true for Jews here because people in Ivano-Frankivsk hear about Jews quite more often than they get to meet one, since there are so few of them here: reportedly, only some 200-400 Jewish residents in a city of 266,124, meaning <0.1% at the lower end of the range. Statistically improbable as it is, there's at least one more person in my college class coming from a Jewish background (plausibly even two, but I haven't bothered to verify), and both of us are openly critical of the aforementioned social movements. Regardless, neither of us has gotten one's house incinerated or anything, so, lol, hope is out there. EIN (talk) 17:47, 21 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

I do believe in Israeli as an ethnicity and I was never anti-Semite. Please do not draw conclusions about people you never met. There is a catholic identity so off course there is a Jewish identity. But I do believe that not all Jews are Israeli. I changed the wording in the infobox to something that express my feelings better. Sorry if my previous clumsy wording insulted/hurt anybody. Media coverage edit

In regards to this point here, I was watching France24 and they were discussing this exact point about the media coverage, and said it was a sign that the oligarchs are backing or at least not supporting Yanukovych anymore; that they were taking the reigns off of the media. This of course ties in to the Bloomberg article today about oligarchs deserting Yanukovych,1. There were other articles recently on this topic, 2, 3, 4. Thanks for your excellent contributions rel UA edit

Hi fellow editor, Thanks for all your excellent informative detail about current goings-on. Also for adding the links (I missed 'em) to my contrib. rel PP. I love it: "Russophilia." BTW, why are there WP articles for Russophilia, Russophobia, etc.; but no Ukrainophilia, Ukrainophobia, Finnophobia, etc.? :-) Best regards, Paavo273 (talk) 20:03, 12 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! All the articles you mention do exist.... except Finnophobia. I have no idea what went on is Anders Åslund mind, but to me it is clear that Petro Poroshenko is an opportunist and (in my opinion) Ukraine would be better of without him... — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 20:11, 12 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi and thanks for the speedy FB. Okay, all I know is what Aslund said; and given his former involvement with e.g., the Kuchma gov't, it struck me he should be a qualifying valid source on the subject, although obviously subject to counter-argument or rebuttal. Given what you say, please do what you will with my contrib. to the PP article, even delete if you want. Kind regards, Paavo273 (talk) 20:25, 12 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
