I noticed that you were formatting some Google books citations. You may already be aware of it, but if you are not I think you might find http://reftag.appspot.com a useful tool. You will find some other tools at Wikipedia:Wikimedia Labs/Toolserver replacements and more at Wikipedia:Tools -- PBS (talk) 16:44, 29 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Yes, thank you. I use that reftag one as well as one at http://tools.wmflabs.org/yadkard/yadkard The second one gives both a plain as well as named reference citation. Thanks for the links, I will check them out. WordSeventeen (talk) 17:20, 29 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Kardashian-related articles edit

Can you give an example of the information that is repeated. Nightscream (talk) 04:28, 7 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Yes thank you Nightscream, for instance on the Kim Kardashian article please see the tables for TV, filmography and awards. Then the prose in the article has these several statements that give the same information contained in the table.
Occasionally there may be an extra item or some bit of info, but most of these below are the same info:
  • Kardashian played Elle in four episodes of the television series Beyond the Break.
  • .....and guest judge on America's Next Top Model in August of that year.
  • In October 2007, Kardashian, in addition to her mother Kris; her step-father Bruce; her siblings Kourtney, Khloé, and Rob; and half-sisters Kendall and Kylie began to appear in the reality television series Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
  • she made her feature film debut in the disaster film spoof Disaster Movie, in which she appeared as a character named Lisa.
  • Kardashian made a cameo appearance during an episode of the sitcom How I Met Your Mother, in the episode "Benefits"
It just goes on and on like that through this whole article and many others in the group. Plus please note there are inline citations in the prose, and then the tables with what appears to be the same reference.

Thank you for looking this over, Cheers! WordSeventeen (talk) 01:30, 8 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Sorry about that edit

I saw earlier people putting pinging people on afds for those who put up the notability tag which I did that on a article that I didn't realize that many people put one up. Wgolf (talk) 02:24, 8 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

I didn't think it be a problem, so yeah I'll stop. (I've just seen it done by others so I thought it wasn't a big deal-though after one article I was thinking it might be too much) Wgolf (talk) 02:28, 8 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Nice that you say sorry. But who was the user that added the references that you refer to when you said

"Well the blp prod was removed since it got refs" hmmm? Did you ping or notify that editor? Can you tell me the name of the editor? You seem to be overall a good editor @Wgolf but I do not understand your brevity when you approach these articles that you consider for deletion. Have you ever considered trying to improve an article now and then? Or maybe help a new editor to fix a ref that they found, but it just was not formatted correctly? For example today I came across an article today where you had reverted an edit where the person did not have the ref formatted correctly at Jagdeo Prasad. Here is the diff, if you are interested in what I saw on the page when I looked up this " 05:08, April 7, 2015‎ Wgolf (talk | contribs)‎ . . (2,573 bytes) (-583)‎ . . (ref does not exist) " Before you reverted the edit [1], after you reverted the edit [2]

If you look closely at the reference it appeared like a bare url on the page. It looked like this:

http://www.countercurrents.org/ayadav020211.htmhttp://www.countercurrents.org/ayadav020211.htm

The editor just probably pasted it twice. If you just click on that it will give you a 404, but the ref does exist. Just erase he duplicate url, and you will go straight to the page the editor was trying to use as a reference.

Of course you are not really required to do any of this. But as for me, my goal is to help to improve the encyclopedia, improve articles, occasionally create articles, and try to help others who may not know how to do that one little thing that could help them to improve the articles. What are your goals here at wikipdia Wgolf? Cheers! WordSeventeen (talk) 02:51, 8 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! edit

Hi dear WordSeventeen! Thank you for reviewing my article Shahram Qadir and I appreciate it. You have left a tag which required a more reliable source for biography. I have already proven sources for this short biography, both in English and Farsi. And on External Links section I put once more IMDb as information source for this person's biography which is the same information on magazines that I have referred to as sources. I will be grateful if you review once again my article and if it is possible remove the tag. Family trees edit

I do not know of any help pages. That is not because they may not exist it is just that I do not know of any. How to build a simple family tree is described in the documentation to template:chart. There is also the old template:familytree which is now deprecated in favour of {{chart}} which seems to have the same documentation. You may also like to look in category:family trees to see some more complicated examples.

If they are templates then they are often collapsed with {{navbox}}. See for example Template:Family tree of William Jardine (1784-1843) which also shows how to include citations within such a template.

If you want to isolate the footnotes for the chart you can do it using this:

{{chart top|An example family tree}}
<center>
{{chart/start}}
{{chart| | | |GrMa |~|y|~| GRP | |GrMa=Grandma{{efn-lr|A first class citation}}|GRP=Grandpa}}
{{chart| | | | | | | |)|-|-|-|.| }}
{{chart| | | MOM |y| DAD | |DAISY|MOM=Mom|DAD=Dad|DAISY=[[Aunt Daisy]]}}
{{chart| |,|-|-|-|+|-|-|-|.| | | }}
{{chart| JOE | | ME  | | SIS | | |JOE=My brother Joe|ME='''Me!'''|SIS=My little sister}}
{{chart/end}}
|-
|style="text-align: left;"|'''Notes:'''
{{notelist-lr}}<!--- use either {{Efn-lr}} and/or <ref group=lower-roman /> To fill this notelist -->
</center>

{{chart bottom}}

produces this:

An example family tree
Grandma[i]Grandpa
MomDadAunt Daisy
My brother JoeMe!My little sister
Notes:
  1. ^ A first class citation

I hope that helps. -- PBS (talk) 10:54, 9 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Keeping Wikipedia Expanding Not Shrinking edit

Hello User:WordSeventeen sorry for disturbing you. The reason I am writing you is we all love Wikipedia and we want it expanding. However there is a discussion going on to delete a notable game article because of biased opinions. I saw that you edited this article: Dokapon_Ikari_no_Tekken and let it stay for further expansion, update and keep growing Wikipedia even though it has no references. But I am also totally agree with you to let articles stay for improvements and expand Wikipedia. So I believe you are a neutral, professional, objective and who believes in expanding Wikipedia not shrinking it type of person. Talk:Simon Collins#RFC regarding a passage edit

In my judgement User:Winkelvi was out of order to accuse you of acting in bad faith for bringing an RfC. However if you were to open an WP:ANI over the second bad faith posting by User:Winkelvi to Talk:Simon Collins#RFC regarding a passage, given the information I posted to you page here, there is a strong possibility that it would partially boomerang on you, as Winkelvi is making the point, witht some empirical evidence, that your are targeting pages which Winkelvi has recently edited.

I suggest that you let this RfC play out and take my advise. I will not sanction Winkelvi for the second bad faith posting, because to do so could be seen as vindictive by me. You are of course free to take it up at ANI, but I think that this and that give more than enough information for uninvolved editors who come to comment at the RfC to draw their own conclusions, without the need for further administrative action. If Winkelvi continues to play the man and not the ball (to draw on a soccer analogy) then then referee cards may need to be produced (to continue the analogy). -- PBS (talk) 11:10, 25 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

With regards to your request on my talk page. You have misunderstood what I wrote to user:WordSeventeen when you wrote: You were told by an administrator to let this RfC "play out". In other words, he was telling you to drop your involvement.(diff)

So user:WordSeventeen is correct when (s)he writes "I began this RFC and I am certainly allowed to participate in the RFC. Please comment on the issue at hand and do not attack any specific editor winkelvi."(diff)

clear up a source question edit

wonder if you can help, as I appear to have come to an impasse because nobody from the martial arts site has yet responded, which is very unusual as they are usually extremely keen and quick to jump on things. Anyhow, I need to clear up a source question issue that I asked on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Fumiaki_Shishida as it affects other aikido articles, therefore, I appealed for help to clear up the question of, is the source http://www.aikidojournal.com/encyclopedia.php?entryID=612 listed in the fumiaki shisida article sound ? The question is raised in so much as the source states that shishida is " Currently a member of the Board of Directors and a technical director of the JAPAN AIKIDO ASSOCIATION." And when this statement was used recently in an update of another aikido article, then the update was readily undone and the reason given for its undoing was that it was incorrect information. The question isn't about the undoing of an update as I have no issue with the update being undone, but in the action of the undoing of the update for that reason it raises the question of, if the information is indeed incorrect, then the http://www.aikidojournal.com/encyclopedia.php?entryID=612 source is not a sound source and its inclusion therefore, in the fumiaki shisida article and any of the other wiki article is questionable. But if the source is sound and the statement is correct, then there can be no objection with both the source and the update remaining. Chunlinc (talk) 07:22, 4 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Removal of Maintenance Tags from Sayyed Ibn Tawus edit

  Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your removal of this template does not appear constructive, and has been reverted. Thank you. Ormr2014 | Talk  13:01, 17 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello,

You left a terse note here reprimanding me for removing maintenance templates from an article without correcting the problems here [4] I did not remove any templates. I made two formatting edits and a third edit to fill a bare reference. The maintenance templates were clearly still there as evidenced in the diff above. It looks like the next editor may have removed the templates. Please look more closely at the diff before accusing editors in the future. Cheers! WordSeventeen (talk) 15:13, 17 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

James Rhodes edit

Hello!

Thanks for your work at James Rhodes (pianist). Some articles are more "trying" than others, I know. It may help if you lay out the specific issues you see with the text that the IP keeps inserting. At a glance, it doesn't look too far off to me. The IPs method of editing (edit warring, walls of unformatted text on talk, etc) is not okay, but if you can provide some guidance at the talk page perhaps we can all find some copy we're satisfied with.

Also, since the material is now sourced in a couple reliable independent sources, it is possible that an admin won't grant the BLP exemption to WP:3RR. I recommend that you stop reverting as well (if the IP puts the content back) and instead use the talk page to come up with something reasonable. Someone will come along and look at the edit warring so far, and you don't want to be participating.

Cheers! --Tgeairn (talk) 03:12, 27 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

I'll wait a bit to see what you're planning to do with it, but please do not revert again, in accordance wih the guideline policy cited above. Brianhe (talk) 05:32, 27 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for being most reasonable. I will complete adding all the references and citations by the end of this business week. I have been delayed because my other three folders of research on this author are at my office. I do also have several add on articles to also post. Frankly, I was glad to remember about the article because I had prepared a grand expansion. I have been so busy lately that I had completely forgotten about the whole affair! I do hope you do not find me rude in reverting the good faith deletions you had done, but it was much quicker than re-adding the info back one by one. I appreciate your patience and collaboration on the project, and I hope to encounter you again sometime. Cheers! WordSeventeen (talk) 08:46, 27 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

De Prod'd page edit

Why did you de-prod the ABC page? I discussed it with our team and we do not want to be associated with Wikipeda.RobertABC — Preceding undated comment added 21:19, 27 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Status and Advice edit

As reviewing administrator, I moved the article to Draft space, instead of deleting it--you will find it at Draft:Angie Littlefield I notice, however, that , according to WorldCat, none of this books are in mote than 60 libraries, which is utterly trivial for a children's author, and seems incompatible with his having won a significant prize that might make for notability. Proposed deletion of Jogti edit

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I redirected it to Devadasi to avoid deletion. If that's not the exact meaning, it can be restored & expanded, or expanded at the Devadashi article. DGG ( talk ) 14:50, 15 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

redirected to author, similarly. I assume these two are not part of a group of paid edits; if they are, you need to declare it. DGG ( talk ) 14:52, 15 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thank you DGG. No, I try to do a set of 3-5 articles that link, so the articles won't get the dreaded orphan tag. I write abut a variety of different subjects including skyscrapers, beauty queens and pageant winners, and trying to do a few articles about war vehicles and military history things. I last picked several writers that had won awards and such. I also have done a few articles about various people in the Rockefeller family. My interests vary. I appreciate your note, there is no paid editing here. Cheers! WordSeventeen (talk) 22:23, 23 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Is there a reason why you've suggested a merge between List of cricketers who have taken five wickets on ODI debut and List of Test cricketers who have taken two five-wicket hauls on debut, but only tagged one of the articles, and not given a reason for it? Question: Editing your own article edit

Hi WordSeventeen, many thanks for reviewing and approving the article for Jo Loves (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jo_Loves). I would like to add information to the article; if I do does the entire article run the risk of being rejected, or will the addition/amendment be reviewed separately without affecting the rest of the page? If so, how can I ensure that the reviewer considers the recent edit only? Sincerely grateful for your advice! Teriw (talk) 11:18, 15 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Current examples of the long term disruptive behaviors edit

Arbitration request edit

Hi, WordSeventeen. In response to your request for arbitration of this issue, the Arbitration Committee has agreed that arbitration is not required at this stage. Arbitration on Wikipedia is a lengthy, complicated process that involves the unilateral adjudication of a dispute by an elected committee. Although the Committee's decisions can be useful to certain disputes, in many cases the actual process of arbitration is unenjoyable and time-consuming. Moreover, for most disputes the community maintains an effective set of mechanisms for reaching a compromise or resolving a grievance.

Disputes among editors regarding the content of an article should use structured discussion on the talk page between the disputing editors. However, requests for comment, third opinions and other venues are available if discussion alone does not yield a consensus. The dispute resolution noticeboard exists as a first point of call for disputes that are not resolved by discussion, and the Mediation Committee provides formal mediation for advanced content disputes.

In all cases, you should review Wikipedia:Dispute resolution to learn more about resolving disputes on Wikipedia. The English Wikipedia community has many venues for resolving disputes and grievances, and it is important to explore them instead of requesting arbitration in the first instance. For more information on the process of arbitration, please see the Arbitration Policy and the Guide to Arbitration. I hope this advice is useful, and please do not hesitate to contact a member of the community if you have more questions. Miniapolis 00:48, 22 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

December 2015 edit

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 6 months for Your continuous slowmotion disruption on Allie X related articles combined with your frivolous but severely worded warnings on Sanctuary's talk page makes it clear that atm your presence doesnt benefit wikipedia.. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Kevin Gorman (talk) 21:48, 6 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

I started an RFC in good faith at one of the AlliX articles. I then left to go to our sunday church supper. I returned to check wikipedia and found the postings of the admin. He had posted a note on the rfc giving me two separate suggestions about what he thought I should do. Please remember that we all live in various time zones, plus we have different activities, work, school, religious activities. I never even got an opportunity to take one of the suggestions left for me to consider. The admin blocked me for 6 monthe like 2-3 hours after he left the note with two suggestions. I would like to be unblocked so I may continue trying to improve wikipedia and help build a better encyclopedia. In spirit of WP:AGF and to prevent any percieved disruptions that anyone might believe are going on, I will voluntarily put myself on three month topic ban on articles about AllieX WordSeventeen (talk) 05:32, 11 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

I looked at the discussions. On the one hand, consensus had not closed for a block and Kevin Gorman's block was a bit of a blunt instrument, but on the other, you did yourself no favours by badgering on ANI, and continuing to edit Allie X while the topic ban was under consideration. So on conclusion I think Kevin's block was good. You need to spend time away from Wikipedia and do something else; when your block expires in 6 months, don't go anywhere near Allie X - ever, otherwise the next block will be indefinite. If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
