April 2021 edit

  You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. 331dot (talk) 16:56, 29 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

@331dot:

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I am new to editing Wikipedia and I was not aware that "edit wars" were not allowed. Nonetheless, I have made a thorough case on the Ahmad Zahir talk page in regards to his ethnicity. I have included 7 unique sources in 3 languages (Persian/Dari, Pashto, and English) from sources such as BBC Persian, BBC Pashto, The New York Times, Al Jazeera, The Guardian, and others. These sources can easily be checked and they have references to the family's ethnicity written in them. For ease of reference, I have included the snippets in both Persian/Dari and Pashto directly from the articles and I have translated them. I am a native speaker of both Dari and Pashto, but anyone can easily use Google Translate to confirm/double check the translations. Additionally, a couple of the sources include video interviews of close friends and colleagues of Ahmad Zahir stating the same in regards to ethnicity. Most importantly, the BBC Pashto source has the actual audio of an interview with Ahmad Zahir conducted by Dawood Farani in which Zahir himself says in Dari/Persian:

"شما می فهمید که زبان مادری من پشتو است"

This translates to:

"You all know that my mother tongue is Pashto"

For good measure, the article also includes a copy of the script written in Pashto for thoroughness.

"ما له ډېرې مودې راپدېخوا تصمیم درلود پښتو سندره ووایم، تاسې پوهېږئ چې زما مورنۍ ژبه پښتو ده، او پښتو سندرې ویلو سره مینه لرم"

This translates to: "I have been planning/wanting to sing a Pashto song for a long time. You all know that my mother tongue is Pashto and I love to sing in Pashto".

331dot Please let me know if anything further is needed. I have included the detailed sources below for your reference.

I know nothing about the subject of these edits, so I won't be involved, but you may discuss this on the article talk page or if that fails use dispute resolution. 331dot (talk) 07:07, 30 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

July 2021 edit

  Hi WikiEditUsername7! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Danre98(talk^contribs) 01:09, 2 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Danre98: Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Can you please inform me which edit it was specifically so that I don't make that mistake again? WikiEditUsername7 (talk) 01:47, 2 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
It's not a big deal by the way (and you probably had no idea) but several of your edits should not be marked as minor. You may want to see Help:Minor edit#What to mark as minor changes to see some examples. For instance, this edit should not have been minor because it is adding comments to a talk page (adding content to the page). Updating a population count isn't minor as well because you are visibly changing content in the article. Also, removing stuff sourced from Facebook (which is a good idea) is also not minor because you are removing content from the article. Some of your edits that should be marked minor include this edit where you added archive links to references. You didn't really change the meaning of the reference, you just added an archive link to help people if the website ever breaks. Simply adding the Nastaliq script to articles is also a minor edit (as long as you believe it is not contentious- which is not the case when Xerxes1985 started the discussion on the talk page) because it is formatting that doesn't change the meaning of the native spelling. However, because Xerxes raised an objection (which makes it contentious) those edits are no longer minor edits, at least in my opinion.
In summary, edits should only be marked as minor when the changes are superficial that you are making (or you are reverting vandalism, in which case you edit can also be minor) and you think it could never be the subject of a dispute. Hope this helps. Danre98(talk^contribs) 14:45, 2 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Arbitration Enforcement edit

You asked, in your DRN post, about what I meant about Arbitration Enforcement. It is true that Xerxes has not been reported to AE. The procedure for Arbitration Enforcement is that the user must have been "alerted" that the topic area is covered by discretionary sanctions within the past year. Xerxes was alerted in September 2020, and so is aware that the area of India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan is covered by sanctions. This means that if they edit disruptively, another editor can report them at Arbitration Enforcement, which is often more effective than going to WP:ANI. So if they cause trouble about what style or font of the Arabic alphabet, you can report them. For now, my advice is to edit normally. Does that answer your question? The point is that you can use an expedited procedure if there is disruption. Robert McClenon (talk) 22:36, 27 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Robert McClenon: Thanks for clarifying. Yes that answers my question. I honestly want to get this resolved in the easiest and least disruptive way for all parties involved. Unfortunately one of the other parties involved is not willing to budge. But I am not sure what to do as Xerxes1985 has already started to undo Nastaliq related edits (see below). I would like to point out that I was not the one who even added Nastaliq to the page below to begin with.
