Choice of words

Hello Werieth, it occurred to me that newbies might be a bit discouraged by comments like this one. Perhaps use something along the lines of: "repeated attempts to use of NFC without a valid rationale often result in the editor being blocked, so please make sure to complete the rationale before re-adding". Just a thought :) Anyway, keep up the good work. Aquegg (talk) 10:16, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

Pictures Removal. Qanungoh Shaikh.

Hello.

Although I tend not to have time as such, I wonder what your rationale for removal of images actually is. With the exception of File:Chaudhry Muhammad Sharif.jpg every other image to the article was uploaded by me to Wikipedia and all copyright holders were notified of inclusion of the picture in the said article. In addition I am in possession of the picture of Khan Bahadur Sir Sheikh Abdul Qadir, although I chose to use previously uploaded version to avoid removing it from its frame. Nearly all the persons in question are deceased and do not have any commercial or IP/Tortious or related interests in the pictures' use. I cannot see any sensible reason for their removal.

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Potohar1982 (talkcontribs)

The files violate Wikipedia's policy on non-free media and part of Wikipedia's m:Mission is to minimize the usage of non-free media. Given that there are articles on these individuals usage of their images on their clan article cannot be justified. Providing a link to their article where the image is already displayed is sufficient. Werieth (talk) 16:00, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

Where can I go to get stuff that was on Userpage. Never requested it to be deleted. If I wanted it deleted, then, there would have been a templete requesting it.. (JoeCool950 (talk) 06:48, 1 February 2014 (UTC))
  • JoeCool950 if you didnt want your user page deleted, why have you posted multiple times to my talk page requesting it? Werieth (talk) 16:02, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
I never put up a damn templete, so it should have never been deleted (JoeCool950 (talk) 19:27, 1 February 2014 (UTC))

Restored per your request. But as Werieth says, if you don't want your userpage deleted then stop asking people to do it. Euryalus (talk) 05:09, 3 February 2014 (UTC)

Your recent editing history at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. • Hell in a Bucket see my post above, reverting a sock is exempt from 3RR, Andy has been warned about his behavior before. Werieth (talk) 19:55, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

You're aware of 3rr, right? NE Ent 19:49, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

NE Ent Andy was informed not to post on behalf of a sock, WP:3RRNO point 3 (reverting posts of banned users) means that removal of the socks comments are exempt. Werieth (talk) 19:53, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
You're including Andy's comment in the revert, which isn't exempt. NE Ent 19:55, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

Notice of Edit warring noticeboard discussion

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion involving you at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring regarding a possible violation of Wikipedia's policy on edit warring. battleground

Re: [1] ... it's petty to be arguing about whether the notification was "canvassing" or not. Please don't use Andy's page as a battleground. NE Ent 20:13, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

Your diff was off, but I wanted to let those not privy to the previous situation know why I notified that admin. Werieth (talk) 20:16, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
Yet if I post at ANI in a thread about another editor, and an article you've never edited, where you magically popped up anyway, then letting other editors know that our first encounter was because I accused you of being Betacommand's sock, then that's an attack? Andy Dingley (talk) 20:23, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
No, the personal attack is that you are still making false claims about me being a sock. Werieth (talk) 20:26, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Fixed the diff. If anyone wants to know, they can come ask you, right? NE Ent 20:25, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

Apology

I just read the last link you left on my page. I'm sorry, it appears you were correct that those are exempt from 3rr. I personally think the party line is that don't violate it and let an admin handle it but sometimes that just doesn't work. Either way my fault. Hell In A Bucket (talk) 19:56, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Hell in a Bucket (talk · contribs) Andy has made it a point to be disruptive and to support the harassment that the troll creates. He was warned about it, several times, and continues to make inappropriate comments in that regard. Lets flip this so that the shoe is on the other foot. If someone started making claims that you where JarlaxleArtemis, to the point of creating 10+ accounts to spread the attacks, spam notice boards, make personal attacks and degrade you, how would you take it after the 10th account? besides having to deal with that troll, I am dealing with Andy who obviously dislikes me and has made a point to spread the libel around, not obviously enough for a case of WP:MEAT from an outside perspective but enough harassment to be offending.
I know you may not have been aware of the whole picture and I understand your confusion, and I hold no ill will towards you. But at this point the harassment needs to be stopped. Werieth (talk) 20:13, 7 February 2014 (UTC)

Hello there! Regarding your edit on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux article, any chances, please, for an insight regarding the File:RedHat.svg image – why do you see it as missing to fulfill a non-free use rationale? Thank you. — Dsimic (talk | contribs) 19:18, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

Notification for orphaned fair use images

Is there any particular reason that you have not notified any uploader that their image was orphaned in your last batch of tagging? It looks like you tagged over 1000 images in the past week and did not notify one uploader that their images were up for speedy deletion. Actually looking through your contributions, it looks like the last time you notified someone of an orphaned fair use image was December 1st. The orphaned fair use template states to notify the uploader. Aspects (talk) 00:04, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

File:Photo of Albertan MLA Sheldon Chumir on a chair.gif

Samsamcat's page subsection: Sheldon Chumir..

How about we do it like this. You stay off my personal page, and erasing my entries, because the meta-data on the Sheldon Churmir photograph has metadata that affirms it's status as a permissible file. Translation: I was granted permission to post it on wikipedia. If you check the source of the photo without being a slap happy idiot you can find this information there. Stay off my user page moron.

Samsamcat Please see WP:NPA. We do not accept for wikipedia only licenses. The file is licensed non-free, and thus cannot be used on your user page. If you want to use the file on your user page, please have the copyright holder do a full release, otherwise policy doesnt allow an exception for usage on your user page. Werieth (talk) 10:57, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

Actually you've been cited multiple times for misconduct. If you persist with this stupidity I shall notify Wiki administrators. Here is the licence! Right off the photo itself. You can easily look it up yourself, or contact the Sheldon Chumir foundation.

Samsamcat You need to review the policy on non-free media. WP:NFCC and the accompanying explanatory guideline WP:NFC. Our policy forbids usage of non-free media on non-articles (Your user page). This issue is nonnegotiable, If you re-add the file again I will take this to ANI and request that either your user page is protected to prevent you from re-adding it, or that you are blocked. Werieth (talk) 17:01, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

Why are you bullying me like this? Why do you editors always do this kind of stuff? I just want to produce for wikipedia.

Samsamcat, I am not bullying you. In fact I have responded very calmly and politely to your insults and threats. Please feel free to contribute to Wikipedia, however there are some rules that must be followed, and WP:NFCC is one of them. Unless you can get the file released under a free license you cannot use it on your user page. Werieth (talk) 17:30, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

I'm now applying for Citizendium and will be taking my contributions there. I wish you well.

Question about the use of File:WichitaStateShockers.PNG

Hello. I read the link you said to see about the use of the WSU wordmark for the basketball seasons. My question is, what makes it different from the other articles that do the exact same thing. For example, use the Syracuse Orange men's basketball season articles, or the Notre Dame Fighting Irish men's basketball season articles or any other articles like those? I don't get it… I read it, but other articles are doing the same. And, how come the other logo File:Wichita State WSU Wordmark.gif, could be used? Is the reason the logo I've been putting in can't be used because of the "wheat" on top of the "WSU", or something else? Hope you can explain it better. Corkythehornetfan(talk) 23:19, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

The primary issue is that you are using a non-free file, while other word marks (which lack graphics besides the bare text), are under a free license. Given that File:WichitaStateShockers.PNG is well above the Threshold of originality which most (but not all other word marks) fail to meet it must be treated as non-free, and thus cannot be used. Werieth (talk) 23:26, 21 February 2014 (UTC)
Okay. So, If I found a wordmark without the "wheat" on tip, that is just the letters, could that be used? Corkythehornetfan(talk) 23:31, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

Question about a non-free picture

Hello,

Is it allowed to have Cahit Arf's picture in an infobox list in the Turkish people article? There appears to be no image rationale for use in the Turkish people article. Étienne Dolet (talk) 21:04, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

There where several WP:NFCC violations in that article that I removed. Werieth (talk) 21:07, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

Chevalier de Saint-George

Hello Werieth, I am Gabriel Banat, author of ‘’The Chevalier de Saint-Georges, Virtuoso of the Sword and the Bow’’. Some weeks ago, shocked to find the original article in Wikipedia riddled with the usual errors and myths that plagued my subject’s history over two centuries , I felt obliged to write my own, only to find it this morning stripped of most of its illustrations.

If this was intended to protect my rights as the author of the above mentioned biography, I appreciate your intention, possibly caused by my not having filled out Wiki’s questionnaires clearly enough. On the other hand, while assuring you that I have the rights to each of the illustrations in question, I am able, if you wish, to produce receipts and correspondence to prove it. This includes, of course, the two pages of music, also missing, even though they were taken from my own edition, “Masters of the Violin” (volume III, Johnson Reprint, 1982) devoted to facsimiles of first editions of Saint-Georges’ works, whose copyrights, the same as all of the others, I had, of course, secured before publishing. Should the above succeed in having my illustrations restored, I would consider, if you prefer, to have them lined up vertically as are the illustrations in Wikipedia’s French edition.

To inform you about my work, you I would appreciate it if you consult my website; gabrielbanat.com It has excerpts from reviews of the book, including one from The New York Review of Books, (featuring the illustration of the Duke of Orleans) and my performances, live, of two of Saint-Georges’ works. Dsteveb (talk) 17:04, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

I'll respond on the article talk page, but it comes down to issues regarding wikipedia's policy on non-free materials. Werieth (talk) 17:13, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

URAA file

Hello,

This photograph is is not in the Public Domain as stated by the license tag. Shouldn't it be uploaded as a non-free? Étienne Dolet (talk) 04:22, 27 February 2014 (UTC)

A review is already in progress, see commons:Commons:WikiProject Public Domain/URAA review. I am not familiar enough with the URAA issue to weigh in on it. Werieth (talk) 11:25, 27 February 2014 (UTC)
