You "sounded" like you knew my one project here: Joseph Rescigno. I've just replaced the entire page, leaving in place the AUTHORITY CONTROL and DEFAULT SORT that had been added (but correcting spelling in both). I saved the stuff I deleted, not knowing whether I was doing this right. So I hope I'm being a good citizen. But I'll check in later today and will try to conform to any rules I'm still ignorant about.

On another note, you mentioned a user page. I'm not really sure of the purpose. I can't really donate time here and don't expect to contribute more. (Actually, there are a couple of names in my text that really deserve for someone to take up the cause and write an entry on. Is there a way that I can draw attention to those? or should I just trust in the passage of time?)

Hello again Valuenyc, I will now start to take a closer look at the article. It was ok that you substituted the text this time, since there were not many more editors than you writing the article. There are some things that needs to be conformed to Wikipedia standards, I will start fixing them for you. As for a user page, such a page is only if you want it, if you are considering doing more work here. Otherwise, just skip it. If there are names of people that you want someone to do articles about, you just make links of them. These links will be displayed in red and by that indicate that someone should take notice of them. Just don't make too many! I'll make one for you in the article so that you know what I mean.   Done I have done as much as I can for now for the article. I have not removed any text, but there was a bit of rearranging and a lot of cleanup from that dreadful Word-code that had tagged along. I have replaced all the bad coding with real Wiki-code and conformed the article's layout to the Wikipedia standard. You may not agree with all of my edits, but trust me, I'm only helping you getting a nice article here. You had also made a lot of bad links that led to pages with lots of people with the same name as the ones you intended. I have fixed those for you. You can read about all my edits in the edit summaries.

Also, do not worry, nothing is ever lost on the Wikipedia. All texts are kept in the "History" of each article, and can be retrieved should need arise. :) Best, w.carter-Talk 21:22, 10 July 2015 (UTC)

Aha. I did see those red links when I was working in the sandbox. I just didn't realize that it could be a good idea to create them on purpose. (I have only three more names in mind.) As to the rest, I'll need a little time to see what you mean about the coding. When I saw the page and printed it, nothing popped off the screen/page at me. I realize that perhaps I should have saved to a text file. Maybe that would have avoided some problems. So sorry I didn't think of that. Gasp! I put all those "%20" codes in there by hand because I thought I'd read that underscores were not preferred. Ugh. Now I think I over-interpreted, over-applied a caution about *external* links (at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Wiki_markup#External_links). Ouch.  :-( There's just so much to take in, even for someone very familiar with basic HTML. So sorry.

More explaining

Well, you are on the right track with the "overthinking", try to purge your mind of anything HTML, that is not Wiki.   And don't be sorry, you are still learning and we have all been there. I used to bug the hell out of my first Wiki-mentor with exactly the same mistakes you make. Now, for getting the links right, the trick is to actually go to the page/article, copy the name of the article from the headline of the page and place inside the double square brackets. That way you get all the characters, spaces, caps, etc. right. Furthermore, you will be absolutely sure that you link to the right page. Since this is an international site, there are so many articles with the same name so there are bound to be mistakes if you don't check that. Like you did with the link La Gioconda as opposed to the right link La Gioconda. Click on both links here and check in the code/editing window and you'll see what I mean.
Code. The "%20" codes were not so bad, they were easy to spot. What was worse, was the quotation marks. When you hit the (") or (') keys in Word, the citation marks automatically get converted into "slanted" typographical marks:
“ ” whereas the Wiki-code is to use only straight marks: " ".
The difference is not easy to spot in the text, so I'm enlarging them here. It is easier to see in the code/editing window, take a peek.
The same goes for the single ones: ’ vs. '.
If you type with the same keys directly in the WP the marks will always be straight. So it might be a good idea to remove the formatting from the text before pasting it into the WP, otherwise each mark has to be hunted down and replaced. I have no idea why the code is supposed to be this way, only that it is the consensus of the WP community that it should be like that.
There are also many features imbedded in the WP itself that takes care of things like {{break}} in section and "|frame|" for pictures, so you don't need to write them. The Wiki-code is ancient and designed for users who are not so programing savvy.
The article looks much better now with proper references and all, but there are still some things that might be improved. The articles here should be written in as neutral a tone as possible with everything sourced. I have this trick when I write: I read the article I'm working on out loud, pretending I'm a news reporter on BBC reading the news on-air. That is when you hear if something is not completely neutral or too personal. Like the caption on under one of the pictures:
Trumpeter Joseph Rescigno playing Petrushka (which he had played under Pierre Monteux) for his first two grandchildren, the future Maestro Joseph Rescigno and the future physicist Thomas N. Rescigno. The boys' mother stands between them.
This sounds way too personal, with facts that only people present at the event and close to the subject of the article would know about. A better caption would be:
Joseph Rescigno playing the trumpet for his grandchildren Joseph Rescigno, Thomas N. Rescigno and their mother.
The fact that Thomas would become a physicist, should only be mentioned in the text if it can be supported by an independent source as a reference, and the name of the piece played, or who he played it under, is of no importance in the caption. This is why editors should never write about subjects close to them, It is so hard to be so clinical about something that is dear to you. I am not an article reviewer, more of a writer/techie, so I have not corrected any of the text. But you should be hard on the text, and yourself, and go through the text to look for, and correct, such things before a reviewer comes along and slap another tag on the article. This "stark" way of writing is actually harder for newcomers to accept that all the learning of code and stuff. Be strong!   Cheers, w.carter-Talk 10:37, 11 July 2015 (UTC)

By the way, I didn't get around to thanking you profusely for moving the para that you moved to a "Recognition" section. That para bothered me enormously; it was the one thing that made me most miserable. No matter how I tightened it and cut back on the references, it just seemed wrong where it was. But I didn't have the command of wikipedia to realize that I could create that section. I did study some model articles, but didn't get that idea. (Now I can expand it! No, only kidding. I promise.)

You made a much much better encyclopedia entry by just doing that. I tightened up the two picture captions, too. But now I have to leave it alone for a bit and come back to it in a week or two. It's just really hard to judge it at this point. And that would be true writing about a person or writing about accounting. We all get wedded to what we write at least for a time.

Q. What's the difference between a professional writer and an amateur writer?
A. The professional has a larger waste basket.  ;-)

LOL! Then I'm on the brink of becoming professional.  I'm glad you agree about the section. I think that if you work too long on a text, you become physically blind. Another editor with a birds eye view of the thing have a much better chance of spotting something like that. That is why the best articles have many editors, someone always sees something. @Ceannlann gorm: Lunch. I listened to an interview with someone from the military. They don't have anything new until the tapes are analyzed and are very cautious about speculations. I think it is best that we do the same. Giving space to speculations as is done in the overall article Swedish submarine incidents is not very professional or WP, IMO. I'll be back later tonight. Hello again Maheshlightp! Logos can be tricky since most of the time they are protected by copyright. Only the most simple logos (made up of just ordinary letters in a common typeface) like this one, or very old and of obscure origin like this one can be uploaded to the Commons for use on the Wikipedia. Read the "Licensing" plates on those pages. All other logos have to be uploaded on the Wikipedia itself, in a small size under the Fair Use criteria, such as this one, and only used in that article. Look at the "Licensing" for it. Read about that here: Wikipedia:Non-free content. The process for doing this can be a bit tricky, so I can help you with it if you don't get it right. Which article and logo is it? By the way, there are no "Sirs" on the Wikipedia, we are all just editors here.   w.carter-Talk 09:09, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

I'm doing a whole series of these international rugby players KIA in WWI, with the idea of having GA/DYK for each article by the centenary of the death of the player. I've basically committed to writing 130 articles over the next three years, since they're nearly all stubs or non-existent. Now that I've written that down, it seems a little insane. In the meantime, there are Pierre Guillemin (18 August) and William Middleton Wallace (22 August) at GAN. They're a bit more spread out after the end of September. Hello W.carter. I am a „café linguist“ from the Café Bistro Les Gâteries rue Saint-Denis, Plateau Mont-Royal, Montréal. A reference to your café ornithologist. In this café I learned to write English after I arrived from Germany, and less French. Thanks for your help and I saved your other correction in a document too. That’s for me a way to learn the WP syntax. I did know nothing about HTML last December as I started my first article at WP. Hello Jim, I'm truly sorry to hear about the loss of people dear to you and your financial hardships, a fate that you unfortunately share with many Wikipedians. There is great comfort in editing and being part of a community when the world around you turns to ruin. I wish that I could endorse a program that granted anyone who wished, a laptop for this. But the resources of the foundation are limited and I don't know how to choose who would be the most worthy candidate. I'm also a little confused by this. At the top of your talk page you have a banner ridiculing the way the Wikimedia foundation asks for donations to keep this project running, and now you want to use a part of those donations for yourself? Or have I read this wrong? Small tip though: When my computer broke down and I didn't have the money to buy a new one, I got hold of a simple, cheap Bluetooth keyboard (second hand on eBay) and connected to my phone. With that I could edit despite the small screen. My sincerest wishes that things will improve for you, w.carter-Talk 15:05, 5 September 2015 (UTC)
I really respect your point of view, W.carter, it is thoughtful. ..now you want to use a part of those donations for yourself? ...: I'm obviously not asking for a grant for my personal use, you might not be aware but I have locally been organizing/attending workshops and edit-a-thons to encourage people from rural India to help smaller communities (Indian language Wikipedias). And it's a bit assuming bad faith on your part when you said that I'll use it for myself, though indirectly. The Program itself is started by Wikimedia Foundation's sister project to help India based editors (India is still a developing country) who are in need for help. And FWIW, the laptop will not stay with me indefinitely, if given, it's a community property and I will be returning it to the them after a definite time so that another editor who is in need can use it. It may clear some doubts you might have, they are not giving it just because the editors need it, but they want few deserving editors to use those infrastructure scholarship for Wikipedia's benefit. However, since you don't feel that I'm eligible enough to get a grant, the matter ends here. Though unrelated but I'm curious, Wikimedia Foundation spends chunks of bills in things like Wikimania etc, since according to you WMF's funds are limited, should they stop giving Wikimania scholarships? @Jim Carter: As I said, I don't know nearly enough about how the economy of the Wikimedia foundation works to cast my vote in this, or how to best distribute the funds, and therefore I will not. As you saw, the part you cited was a question, and it was relevant since you focused on yourself, your needs and hardships in the appeal on your talk page rather than what you describe above. It would be better if you discussed this with people who can actually evaluate the benefits of such an endorsement rather than with friends such as me.
