Re: Juve 8/TFC/GA

@Messirulez: Really great Juve snatched the 3 points away from home to take the top of the CL table and assure a spot in the next round. A win against Zagreb should be standard to take top spot permanently. Their first goal was kind of weak, Buffon could've done better, although not entirely his fault as no one was challenging the Sevilla man. We were fortunate to get that penalty...and right and the death of the half which gave us a big push going into the second half; good to see Marchisio step up and score after a long time off, but his penalty wasn't taken the best, the keeper should have gotten that, he was right there. The Sevilla players, coach and fans were furious after that and the red card. A lot of the Sevilla players were saying Clattenberg gave the game away for them...whatever. Bonucci did well to get that goal and Mandzukic right and the very end placed the shot perfectly into the corner. Also good to see Kean come on, first 2000s born player in Serie A last week and in Champions League now. Maybe the new Balo?? hahaha. Now, again, just need a win with Zagreb (or tie if Sevilla lose theirs), which hopefully shouldn't be too hard. I hope the draw is good to us this year!!
That was quite a match in Montreal! 2-0 down before the first 15 minutes...not a good start...that Italian player got the second one!...Really bad defending though, defenders always caught out. It would've been nice to get a goal before the half to give us some momentum like it gave Juve. Then 3-0...Again, bad defending, defener kept backing up, no one challenging him, takes a shot from outside the freaking 18 yard box and goes in...weak shot, but well placed, and Irwin could've been there...Really good that Toronto got those two away goals, only need to win 1-0 at home now, which they can likely do with our fans behind them. They just can't let Montreal score first, that'll knock them down like it did to NYCFC. Giovinco set up Altidore's header really nicely with that little flick over top to him...Ricketts hit the post moments before and I was dying, but then lucky Gio got to it and made that play. Bradley also fired a beauty. Next week, they have to play for more than just 20 minutes. I still think they'll be able to pull it off. They just need to be tighter. The game being delayed by 40 minutes didn't help either...how do you get the size of the box wrong and need to repaint it and let it dry right before the game?! Anyway, I hope Juve and Toronto can do something special this year! Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 14:57, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
Yeah...it wasn't an easy match, especially considering we went down away so early. It was a good strike, but I can't believe a centre-back would hit a volley like that when Mandukic had actually cleared the ball out of the area well with his head; at first I thought Buffon was way too slow and should have had it, but from the replay it looks like he really couldn't have seen it until it was almost right in front of him, so maybe he was a bit at fault (he is definitely slower now with age, which is the one thing that worries me about him even though he is still a good keeper) but he was also a bit unlucky and maybe the defenders should have blocked the shot. The penalty was definitely fortunate, and it was at a decisive moment in the game, and I can understand the Sevilla fans' annoyance, but then again we received a similar penalty for a foul on Bonucci once again against Lyon, and we also received some dubious penalty calls against us in the past against Real Madrid...I don't think those should ever be called to be honest, but some refs do call them. Maybe Vazquez's second yellow was a little harsh, but I don't think anyone can deny that they were both bookable offences, esepcially the first foul. Without him it made a big difference, he was really driving our defenders wild and the man advantage helped; we were quite fortunate, but then again we were unlucky in teh past. Clattenberg also gave Mandzukic a yellow card after a Sevilla defender dived, and Alex Sandro had just been released wide open on the left flank...I don't think anyone can say he was biased, I jsut don't think he did a particular good job overall and didn't control the game; there was also a foul on Khedira not given and an offside call when Mandzukic had a good chance which was shown to be incorrect. Great goal by Bonucci (another defender!), and even Mandzukic did well at the end after he had missed a couple of opportunities. Nice to see Kean get a chance although I was annoyed when at one time on a counter-attack he tried to beat a defender instead of passing it over to the right wing where we had a player open; Sevilla were pushing and we risked conceding - I guess it shows he is still young and was probably a bit too keen and still needs to grow up a bit, but I hope he will become a star for Juve and Italy! Hope we can get a good win against Zagreb now to seal the first place, rather than hoping Sevilla don't win; and hopefully we get a good draw (it's worrying that Real might come in 2nd place; in 2004–05 we topped out group and ended up facing Real in the round of 16, although we eventually beat them, but then stupidly lost out to Liverpool - although Cannavaro or Del Piero had a goal wrongly ruled out in the first leg, and in the second leg they parked the bus; if that goal had been given we would have gone through). Yeah, I saw TFC made a good comeback after going down so badly and conceding a weak third goal, so hopefully with a one goal margin and two away goals, they can win at home and go through to the MLS Cup final; nice chipped cross from Giovinco and Altidore did well di get some power on the header. I only saw the second half, but Giovinco was maybe playing a bit too deep at times and looked a bit nonchalant; Donadel was all over him though. Mancosu has been doing really well, which is nice for him and even got a goal. Also great to see the Pogba and Giovinco articles receive GA standing; and the Totti one, which is currently on hold, probably will as well it seems once the dead links are removed or replaced! Thanks again for your help! Best regards, Messirulez (talk) 17:30, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

@Messirulez: Yes, I agree, not too too much Buffon could've done, especially if there were players in his view. But yeah, the Sevilla players were criticizing the ref...but he wasn't being biased like you said, he was just getting some calls wrong. Yes, Juve should win and not rely on Sevilla's performance, although it is scary that Real Madrid can come second, but the rest of the teams in second aren't the best (would be beyond unlucky to draw them); although I think they'll beat Dortmund next game and secure their top spot. It didn't matter much to put Kean on for Pescara sicne we were already 3 up, but yesterday was risky. He's still only 16 so he'll definitely improve. Funny some comparisons with Balo since he was born in Italy and has African parents like him. I don't know how similar they actually are though, we'll have to see how he plays; hopefully doesn't have the attitude ;) hahah. TFC played well nearing the end, but will definitely need to improve next game if they want to move on. Gio was covered a lot, yes, and he had a hard time to break through at times. Yes, really nice chip to Altidore, gave them the push they needed! No problem about the articles, really happy they all passed (Totti's now passed). Sorry if I didn't leave any corrections for you, I saw them and did them ASAP! The amount of work you do on a daily basis is more than enough! We really can't thank Jaguar enough though, without a blink of an eye he took on my 5 GA article review requests in under a week! I'll give him a barnstar for sure (By the way, you could put the one I gave you a while ago on your user page and get rid of it from your talk page, that's usually what people do, or keep both, or don't do anything, up to you!) Now we know where to go to get GA noms done quick :p Who's article will we try to get GA next, Maldini? Still lots of unsourced sentences. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 17:53, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

No, not at all, thanks for getting to them and making the changes quickly so they could be promoted! I suppose Maldini could be next although it needs quite a few sources even though it's in fairly good shape and good enough for a B-class article...when I actually have some time to procrastinate and go and wikipedia then I can maybe look for some...haha. Best, Messirulez (talk) 19:32, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

@Messirulez: Perfect, and I'll do the same! hahaha Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 19:57, 23 November 2016 (UTC)

@Messirulez: Oh Dio! Rostov somehow beat Bayern today...Bayern assured of second place only. I think even Man City are second place. Imagine them plus Madrid in second seeds, what a nightmare if we were to come first and get one of them...please no repeat of Euro 2016! Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 22:09, 23 November 2016 (UTC) @Messirulez: Hi, hope you had a good weekend! That was a tough game to watch against Genoa, eh? What was Bonucci thinking trying to back heel it there in the opening minutes? Bonucci's had a few mistakes this year already that seem like things he would've done years ago before he was developed. How many saves does Buffon need to make before someone can clear the ball?? Three really nice saves...although too bad he couldn't hang on to any...but certainly not his fault at all. Then to go down further within a few more minutes off a header the defenders should have done better on. Even the third goal was defensive disarray which caused the own goal. Pjanic's free kick was beautiful though, like the last one. We're only 4 points in front of Milan and Roma, and we face a very confident Atalanta team next week. I guess the league isn't as important, as long as we do well in Champions League, but it would be nice to win it again for a Serie A record 6th consecutive time. And Dani Alves also broke his leg which is a big blow for us as well as Bonucci's injury. At least Dybala will reportedly be back next week... Italy also went down 3 spots to 16th...17th is the lowest they've ever been in history...even though they beat Liechtenstein and drew Germany, so I don't understand how we can go down, especially by that much... Regards, and hope TFC can get it done Wednesday! Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 16:45, 28 November 2016 (UTC) @Messirulez: Firstly, we now know who Juve plays in the Coppa Italia in January, Atalanta, which is probably one of the harder teams that made it through from the fourth round as they are doing really well in the league and are performing like Leicester did last year. We face them this weekend so it will be a little look inside as to what they can bring. Now for the big news......What a freaking game!! Toronto coming from 1-0 down to get back in it and give us an entertaining, intense match from start to finish! TFC were beautiful on their set pieces tonight, with the first three coming from corners, or events that followed them. Giovinco did a good job to start the first goal, cleared off the line by a header and Cooper was there to finish off the job; his first goal with TFC. Second goal was amazing right before the break, did you see Gio and Altidore talk for a few seconds before the corner? Wonderful corner by Gio onto the head of Altidore to get it in at the near post! It was scary when they scored for 2-2 and got such a clumsy goal like that; would've hurt to go out on that! But then beautiful cross by Morrow onto the head of Hagglund which was powerfully headed into the goal from quite a distance out to force extra time. We knew it wasn't going to shootout...then Gio gets himself injured somehow...he has to come off....oh no...but wait? Cheyrou comes on and his first sight at net and it's a wonderful headed goal! Then Ricketts assures us of the win; what a derby this was, and first Canadian team into the MLS Cup Final! Would've loved to have gone to this game, although it was raining a lot; the final is in Toronto, so we'll have a good home field advantage for Seattle, the fans really pump up the team! I can taste the cup coming to Toronto! Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 03:34, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

@Messirulez: Hey man! Forgot to respond ^^^^? ;) No worries. What can I say about the final? To go out in penalty shoot-out is always tough...We had a few good opportunities throughout open play to wrap it up. Giovinco didn't have the best game as he was well covered throughout the whole game by that giant defender Seattle had. He looked more like an American football player! You could really see how Gio's height hindered him...and whenever he tried to run by them, he would always go to ground; most of the time it looked like a true foul, but other times in the second half the ref was having none of it and called very little when Gio went down. He hasn't been the best in the playoffs besides that 5-0 blowout over NYCFC. Even his free kicks usually hit the wall or go over, which I'm sure is just as frustrating for him as it is for us. Altidore had the best chance with that header...but Frei made a pretty good save...but nothing to rave about like a lot of media outlets are. Altidore's header was high, but not powerful and Frei had a lot of time to deal with it; you would expect your goalkeeper to save that. The context of the save, of course, meant everything. Ricketts even had a great chance which just went inches past the post in extra-time. It was a shame Gio was taken off, but I did read it was because of an apparent injury (and thanks for including that on his article). At first I didn't realize it was an injury since when the camera switched to him on the bench, he was really mad. With penalties looming and him being a penalty taker, it was hard to see that. Bradley played a great game, but his penalty was God awful. Someone had to be the villain, and it was Morrow...reminded me of Trezeguet's penalty from 2006! Penalties haven't worked well for us in recent past...we really could've wrapped it up in regular play...Seattle didn't even have a shot on us! It would've been great to win it at home also infront of a record 36,045 fans at BMO Field. When Seattle hoisted the cup, the stadium was empty; chilling. I guess it was just a great feat to even get to the finals...but it really hurts to go all this way and lose, especially in this fashion with Seattle not truthfully being the best team...but it's how it goes in this game we love sometimes. Would've been nice to add a star. Next year hopefully they can take this and be even better. AT LEAST Juve got Porto in their round of 16 CL matchup...considering they could've gotten Real Madrid, Man City, PSG or Bayern. Poor Napoli with Real Madrid ahahah. Juve can't underestimate them though! Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 14:05, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

Sorry, I completely missed the previous post! Yes, it was incredible Toronto managed to reach the MLS Cup Final, and played such an exciting match against Montreal (Mancosu did really well on Montreal's first goal, although the defending was really poor; Donadel played well, too, which was nice to see, but I'm glad Toronto came back with two Giovinco corners - Altidore's header was amazing...something you would see the old fashioned centre-forwards who were specialists in the air pull off, but which is rare today! I must admit when Giovinco came off I thought Toronto were in trouble, but they managed to win it; Cheyrou is a solid player and should probably play more if he weren't so old!) It's such a shame that TFC weren't able to win the Cup at home in front of all their passionate fans considering they completely dominated the match, had many good chances, and were quite unfortunate not to win it albeit ultimately being a bit wasteful with their shots, whereas Seattle were playing for penalties, didn't really maange to create a real goalscoring chance or shoot on target, but still won it...as you said, that's football for you sometimes (look how Portugal won the Euros!). Bradley played well unlike in the Conference final match where he was quite poor in my opinion, but unfortunately he took a really bad penalty...only a few players in the world can pull off a good stutter penalty, and if you aren't one of them I think you should avoid them because I've often seen them lead to a save or a miss. Toronto's last penalty was also bad, but they aren't easy to take. Giovinco wasn't at his best and had a lot of shots and free-kicks blocked and didn't even get a strike on target I don't think, although he did still manage to pull off a few nice moves and create a few good chances, and a few times some players didn't manage to get onto his low crosses in the area when they should have been there to meet them and would have probably scored if they had been there. Seattle defended well, but he was being treated quite harshly and always had several players on him. I know he's small, but sometimes he went to ground too easily though, and there were even a few weak fouls given in his favour, but sometimes there were some blatant fouls (and cards) not given in good positions (he got taken out in a counter-attack one time and the call wasn't given when it should have been a yellow card...another time he tried to do everything by himself but he went down too easily and should have probably tried to pass it to Altidore, who was open, but who also made a bad run); the ref was really quite terrible considering it was a final...he gave the first card way too late into the game and there were some pretty reckless challenges for the ball in the air which should have been booked. It's a shame Giovinco missed that chance...I don't know if he was trying to be cocky and put outside curl so it tricked the keeper and went into the top corner, or if he mishit it, because I can't believe he missed the target from there. I personally thought that Frei made a really good save on Altidore...regardless of whether it was a final or not; I remember he used to play for Toronto and he was one of the better MLS goalkeepers. In my opinion, as he was off his line to move backwards, dive and punch it away like that, I don't think it was easy, even though it wasn't a very powerful header, but it was a good lob by Altidore considering the cross wasn't easy to get onto. It's too bad Giovinco had to come off...I know he was injured or cramping up badly (could it have something to do with his substitution in the last game or was it just fatigue yo uthink?), but I really wish he had just stayed on and tried to play it out, especially as it was almost half time and he maybe could have tried to stretch...I know it was a very cold night, but it would have only been 15 minutes and Toronto were dominating anwyay, so I don't think he would have been that much of a liability defensively...if he could have stayed up even just to draw a defender away and maybe tried to draw a foul, or maybe if he had played deeper in midfield to try and create something and avoid having to run a lot...just having him for the penalty shootout could have meant the difference between a victory and a loss. At least it was a positive season...I don't think anyone expected Toronto to destroy New York that badly, so getting this far was great and hopefully next year they can win it and do well in the CONCACAF Champions League. Yes, Juve got quite a good draw, so hopefully we don't underestimate Porto (like Roma did, ending up in the Europa League after having an advantage in the first leg...De Rossi had to go and make a stupid challenge leaving Roma with 10 men and then they made some atrocious defensive errors...) and get through to the quarter-finals...we do look more solid than usual even though we haven't always been clinical convincing, but he have been scoring more and defending better, and we look a bit more like Capello's Juve who would get to the second round and to the quarter-finals consistently; we do have a good team and have gotten better, plus Marchisio is back and so is Dybala now, which makes a difference, and Higuain looks to be in better shape, so hopefully once our defenders are back in January (although...I can't believe Dani Alves is out for so long, even though he hasn't been fantastic, but recently Lichsteiner hasn't been great either) and are almost at full strength (although I hope we can get another midfielder; I'm not thrilled with how Sturaro and Lemina have been playing even though they are young; Pjanic is imporiving now after a shaky start and Marchisio is finding himself - Hernanes is ok off the bench and in Serie A but not great either), then maybe we can be more convincing in the Champions League. The most important thing is to beat Porto and make it to the quarter-finals, regardless of the league matches in that period. Napoli have it tough, although I'm still hoping they can take on Real Madrid and surprise everyone, esepcially with the crowd behind them at the San Paolo, which is a bad stadium, but really quite intimidating to play in; I really never liked Zidane that much as a player, even though he was amazing (I always thought he was more showy than useful and sometimes disappeared in big games at Juve, even though he did set the tempo in midfield with his passing and vision (although not quite in the way someone like Pirlo would...plus Juve had a great midfield and arguably the best team in the world, so he was able to play behind Del Piero and Inzaghi and other good strikers with a superstar like Davids, and a consistent, combative ball-winner like Deschamps...and we even had a player like Conte who ran and fought a lot and motivated the team, and Tacchinardi was a solid, well-rounded player on the bench, plus we had some decent wingers/wing-backs back then), and he definitely had some of the best dribbling, technique, skills, and ball control I've ever seen, and he was completley two footed, and could pull off some great goals and set-pieces. I also really don't like him as a manager, as to me Real Madrid are not playing well and tactically don't seem to have a real strategy, but just seem to be pulling out results somehow, probably because they have so many good players, and he seems to be reaping the benefits of previous managers...the Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup were extremely fortunate victories, and even the past few league matches, they were so fortunate not to lose them; he'll probably win the Club World Cup as well at this point...I jsut hope he doesn't win the Ballon d'Or; that should go to Ranieri, even though Leicester have been poor in the league this season (but they did top their Champions League group and had that additional commitment, lost one of their best players, and are facing more pressure to do well); what he did was incredible, even more impressive than Portugal winning the Euros. Still, Napoli are nowhere near as good as Real, but hopefully they can pull off a miracle...it's annoying that so many good teams finished in second place considering Napoli and Juve both finally managed to top their group. It's annoying so many Italian teams did so badly in the Europa League, Inter in particular considering their team. Sassuolo were really unlucky in a few matches, and had a tough evenly matched group and lacked expereince, plus Berardi, their hero in the qualifying rounds, was injured. Roma have a tough draw against Villareal, but have probably been the best Italian team; hopefully Fiorentina can do well. I can't believe Cristiano Ronaldo won the Ballon d'Or considering that they split the Ballon d'Or and the FIFA World Player up again this year, so it seemed like the journalists might actually pick a logical choice, not someone with a name like Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo... (Messi shouldn't have won in 2010 - it should have probably gone to Sneijder - and arguably not in 2012 - I would have given it to Pirlo, although that never would have happened; Cristiano Ronaldo should not have won in 2013 - Ribery should have won that, hands down - and in 2014, despite being decisive in the Champions League, he was atrocious in the World Cup, and that was the tournament that counted, so he probably shouldn't have won that award either - I would have given it to Di Maria, or a German player, but not Neuer as I don't think he was particularly outstanding in that World Cup...he wasn't as decisive as Buffon, and although he had a good season with Bayern Munich, it wasn't an amazing one at club level either).

Anyway, considering how atrocious this year has been from a political standpoint, I really do hope we can get a bit of satisfaction from our sports teams next year at least...Sorry for the long message! Best regards, Messirulez (talk) 16:12, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

@Messirulez: Yeah.....such a heartbreaker...especially on penalties...terrible way to decide a final, but it would be so hard for the players to just keep playing past 120 minutes when they can barely even make that. In hockey playoffs it never goes to shootout, just double, triple, etc overtime until someone finally scores; it would never work in soccer since the field is much bigger and would require a lot more physical energy...plus it's not golden goal. Sometimes goes into the middle of the night. Even with the penalty shootout on Saturday it went almost all the way to 11pm here (if you watched the game live and assuming you live in England/Italy, would've been 4/5am)...must suck for people there that wanted to watch the game...but it's kind of like that here for Champions League since it's on during the day time. Seattle did a good job defending TFC and covering Giovinco, but like we said, we had a lot of chances that could've put it away. Gio had way too many free kicks not hit the target which was surprising. He went to ground a bit too often, but yes, the referee was terrible. We know in finals they don't like to give cards as much since they want to keep the flow of play, but sometimes it was ridiculous. But I agree that taking him off right before half time was a little weird even if it was a slight injury, he could've waited for the half to stretch; good point. It definitely could've been the deciding factor. Don't get me wrong, the Frei save was excellent, caught on his back foot, yes, but I mean I'd expect a quality goalkeeper like Buffon or someone to be able to make that save especially because it was more of a high flutter that was well seen in advance. But this will go down as one of the best MLS saves because of its context, just like the Buffon save on Zidane header in 2006 World Cup. If they were regular season saves they wouldn't hold as much significance. Yes, I remember him on Toronto, a good keeper, made it hurt more coming from him. It's annoying since we had great chances like this that were either well saved or gone just wide. Yes, wonderful feat that ultimately ended wrong but a great season nonetheless. Yes, hopefully they can do well in their Champions League.
Juve has been starting to find their rhythm again. Higuain did really well in the Derby di Torino and so did Mandzukic. Dybala is back and he did well when he came on as well. Yes, hopefully Dani Alves comes back soon as you're right, Lichsteiner hasn't been playing the best recently. Napoli has it tough, but I think they could pull it off. PSG and Barca seem to get matched up often, but one could say that PSG isn't as good this year as in previous and even Napoli may be at their level. It was good that good teams got matched up together like PSG Barca, Arsenal Bayern and Man City Monaco so it will knock one of each out for the next draw. Juve did well with this draw, let's just hope they don't squander it. Yeah, it was a shame Inter and Sassuolo got out early...Sassuolo has always been a good underdog, but with Berardi out, it was tough. Inter has seemed to pick it up a bit though with Pioli as manager. I don't really have a bone to pick with any Italian team; the more that do well in European competitions, the better. I hope Lazio can stay/be in a Champions League spot this year. Inzaghi has done well with them, and so has Immobile despite the Derby della Capitale loss. It would be nice to see Milan there as well just to be on a European stage once again. I'm never surprised with the Ballon d'Or winners. Messi or Ronaldo? Ronaldo this year? Sure. That's basically how it goes. You know, I never really try to concern myself with what goes on with stuff like that since it's all politics, it's always the same news. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 18:43, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

@Messirulez: Hope your Christmas went well! The Supercoppa was disappointing especially since we dominated the first half hour of the match and should've been up by 2 or 3 right there; multiple chances and controlled possession. Then Milan controlled it for a while in the second half there, in the Juve half a lot, hit the bar and had good chances and crosses infront of goal. Happy for Donnarumma getting his first trophy so young, but would've been nice to see the year end with a trophy. Also Milan is tied with Juve in number of Supercoppas won. Buffon would've also would've been the player with the most Supercoppas won out of any other player...maybe next year...although he has the most appearances now in the tournament for Juve. Anyway, hopefully we achieve the ultimate trophy in the New Year...Best wishes for a Happy New Year! Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 20:28, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

Thanks, Merry Christmas to you as well! Yes, it's annoying to lose to Milan, especially on penalties, when they didn't even win a title last year...but I suppose the Supercoppa isn't really a major title, even though it is still a competitive match (I think it's harsh to call it a glorified exhibition game though, as the matches are often exciting and the players usually try hardm and back in the day the teams competing always fielded their best formations, not like in the Coppa Italia...), so I suppose when it comes to records in the competition I'm not quite as disappointed, but it would have been nice for Buffon to break more records, especially on his 600th Juve appearance, and considering he had a good game...I hope he can win another league title before he retires to equal the all-time record at least, and then also win another Supercoppa to break more records...I would also like to seem him start in and win a Coppa Italia final with Juve, just because. I really hope Sandro is ok and that his problem wasn't anything serious. Although it's disappointing to end the year with a defeat after winning the double last season, I would rather lose this match and go on to have a great season (although I probably shouldn't be too hopeful, but as I have always said, it would be amazing to see Gigi lift the Champions League). I mainly found it frustrating that we lost because we are a far superior and experienced team, and we initially dominated but then they took control of the game as you said, when we should have been keeping them in their half...and it's also annoying that once again when Buffon stops a penalty in a shootout (even though he is always criticised as not being good at penalties), then one of our players (either for Italy or Juve) immediately wastes our advantage and misses the next penalty, rendering it moot... It was nice for Donnarumma to win it with a decisive stop at least (he played well and hopefully will continue to do so...I'm worried because he's still very young - he's precocious, but no Gigi, not as spectacular, but he is extremely mature and composed for his age, and he's also a very efficient keeper; his general shot-stopping and goalkeeping abilities are very solid even though he isn't as athletic as other goalkeepers), and for some of the young Italian players at Milan to finally win an official trophy, even if it isn't an extremely important one. It's too bad Dybala had to miss the decisive penalty when he missed a good chance and when he's had a difficult start to the season with injuries and lack of goals; hopefully it won't affect him too much as he has still been impressive and his playmaking abilities have really improved this season in my opinion. Yeah, maybe next year we can win it if we win the league title, although I think our main focus should be to go as far as possible in Europe and just aim for a top-two finish in Serie A to qualify for the Champions League. Best regards, Messirulez (talk) 22:11, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
@Messirulez: Yeah exactly...Tough both of the teams I support lose out on penalties even though they were the better teams in the game. I thought when Dybala came on he would've scored for sure, and definitely should've gotten it on that one glorious chance; he had quite some time on the pitch to work something. Donnarumma made a great save on his penalty as the penalty was well struck I thought. Shame Mandzukic had to hit the bar...basically like Morrow. I think Buffon usually does okay in shoot-outs...he usually saves at least one in each shoot-out when he's on point. The penalty he saved on Lapadula wasn't the best kick taken, but he did well to save it; almost got one with his leg too like in 2008, although the Euro is more important obviously. I hope Sandro is okay too, I think they estimate 3 weeks, but who knows...Barzagli came back earlier than expected in the last league match before the break which was nice. Yeah Buffon is just such an icon it'd be great to see him break and win as many records as possible. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 22:30, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

@Messirulez: Hey! Didn't get a chance to watch the loss against Fiorentina, but that sure is a blow. We are still down by a game due to the cancelation of a previous one because of the Supercoppa Italiana, so hopefully we can recover. Wasn't a very convincing win over Atalanta in the Coppa Italia either so hopefully they can regroup against Milan in the next round! The real news is that new awful logo! With so much history the badge had and the fact that the new logo doesn't reflect the old one whatsoever, is a tragedy. I really hope they don't use this on the kits... Agnelli said it took them a year to perfect this logo; how a 10 year old could've drew it!? I remember when they redesigned the jersey last year, I wasn't a huge fan, but it's grown on me and at least it still reflects the colours and the stripes, but this logo I don't think ever will as it is just too deviated from the previous logo. Juventus isn't a dying club that needs rebranding; it wasn't broke, don't fix it! Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 22:51, 16 January 2017 (UTC)

Yeah...It wasn't a great performance in the loss against Fiorentina, or in the Coppa Italia victory against Atalanta, but then again the Italian press always exaggerates things...either Juve are definitely going to win the title and the title race finished at Christmas, or now it's open again and Juventus look really shaky and the teams chasing look much better...it's either fantastic or terrible, never anything in the middle, haha. I always find it hard to tell how we will actually fare against strong teams in Europe because of this, or whether we will comfortably win the league title or not...I think we still have the strongest team, but despite a good first half of the season, we have already slipped up a few times in Serie A, and sometimes just a handful of bad performances can decide an entire season; mind you, as I've said many times, I would rather go far in Europe and not win the league title this season, than get eliminated in the round of 16 or quarter finals of the Champions League, but win another Serie A title (like during the 2014–15 season, where we would often lose our league game at the weekend when we had a Champions league fixture mid-week, but at least we made it to the Champions League final, and we still manged to win the Serie A title...). We certainly have had a couple of bad performances and unconvincing wins, and some are criticising Allegri for the team's lack of identity or creativity in their playing style, considering the players he has at his disposal, while others are even wishing Conte were back, especially after seeing how reinvigorated his Chelsea side seem now that they are dominating in England (funnily enough, I'm sure those fans are probably the same ones that criticised Conte for not being able to do well in Europe with Juve...). Regardless of what has been said of Allegri (maybe his style isn't working for this team anymore and it finally is time for him to go...them again, maybe he will surprise us all with some decisive victories in key moments, as that's all it takes sometimes - like how Portugal managed to win the Euros), we can't judge him too quickly or argue against his record (also last year we started off terribly but then went on an incredible streak to win the double), so maybe we can assess his performance closer to the end of the season. Also, Capello's Juve side, who were incredible on paper and superior to our current team, won two consecutive league titles playing "unattractive" yet efficient football (even though those titles were later revoked...I suppose back then the league was much more competitive and we didn't dominate possession as frequently or as easily as we do now...), and put on some good performances in Europe, and were unlucky not to go further.
Regarding the Fiorentina match again, I thought we failed to control the game or create chances and that we were wasteful with the ones we had; also, I don't like seeing us play behind the ball in Italy, when we are without a doubt the team to beat, although I suppose we can't expect the players to constantly be at their best each week, especially when the starting XI changes frequently because of injuries, etc. and some higher ranked teams (especially a rival like Fiorentina) will always try and do their best against us. Gigi was a bit slow on the goals, although they probably weren't as easy to stop as they looked; it always worries me that he's getting too old, but so far he has still performed well despite his age...it just worries me that his shakier performances are becoming more frequent, and I really want him to end on a high (and lift the Champions League title already!). It also worries me a little bit that Dybala has been struggling in front of goal this season and has missed some easy chances that he would have buried last year; he does seem a bit unsettled as a result, and I hope he deosn't want to leave. Like many players on our team, he has been injured and sidelined for quite a while, and despite this I think that on the ball and in terms of his passing, intelligence, movement, vision, and playmaking ability, he seems to have improved and matured a lot this season. At least Higuain has still been scoring, although now I want him to be able to score as frequently in Europe as well. It's frustrating that we didn't manage to get Witsel, when it seemed a done deal, as he decided to go play in China because of the large salary he will be paid...(same goes for Oscar...). Rincon has been a solid ball winner and box to box player in Italy, but I don't think he really adds much to the team (maybe he's a bit better, more reliable and more experienced than Sturaro? Sometimes some players might seem less skilled, but can be useful for their leadership and ability to motivate their teammates, and that isn't something which is immediately evident to us, so I hope he will help the team's mentality); it would be really nice to get another really good quality midfielder for depth (as Pjanic has been doing well statistically in terms of goals and assists, but in bigger games has sometimes drifted in and out) and possibly another fullback now Evra is leaving and Dani Alves is injured (I feel to see Evra so upset and leave...he definitely added experience and depth to the team and played well in the last two seasons, but this season he hasn't been playing as well and seems to be showing his age; hopefully Sandro can really take off with more playing time now that he's healthy again, especially considering what he has shown us so far in terms of his ability.
Yeah...there has been a lot of controversy over the new overly simple "minimalist" Juve logo (I suppose they chose it because it looks more contemporary? I agree it seems too basic...), and how the original design with the Oval, stars, crown, stripes, full name and the Turin bull/zebra was completely abbandoned and replaced by the J...if it were an alternative logo it wouldn't be too bad, given that it sort of goes with the adidas text and kit designs (which now I don't mind too much, even though originally I thought there weren't enough stripes, but they've also grown on me), but I'm not a big fan of it. To be honest, I wasn't even happy when they changed the logo in 2004 to try and modernise its look, as the previous one had brought us so much success with Lippi (whereas after the two titles from 2005 and 2006 were revoked following Calciopoli, we had to wait until 2012 for our first title with the newer logo...), but at least it was in line with the logos that had preceded it, and really resembled the ones used in the 80s and early 90s in terms of style; actually, I think that back then the logos often weren't even on the shirts (not sure why...the photos of Baggio at Juve only show the two stars on the jersey), or if they were, they were displayed on the sleeve or on the collar (in the mid 90s at least that was the case - I think the first one to have the crest on the front was in 1999 (I really liked that kappa jersey, even though we missed out on the title to Lazio on the last match of the season), but for much of the 90s we also had the "scudetto", which I think is why the club's stem was on the sleeve). I guess the most important thing is that the club is successful, so if we do well, maybe it will grow on us! Best, Messirulez (talk) 05:03, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
@Messirulez: Yeah it was a shame we couldn't get the win against Fiorentina, but it was away. Hopefully they can continue the new 26 home game win streak record and counting! Juve aren't looking as confident as they have been, but I'm hoping that will pass; maybe it's just coming off of that break...which was too long in my opinion. Tough we lost Witsel to a Chinese club, but that's what he's chosen...Bringing in Rincon was a bit of a surprise to me as they didn't let any midfielders like Hernanes go, but I guess he can provide some depth, maybe a bit better temper than Sturaro, but I'm not familiar with his style yet. The Evra situation is hard to watch as he's really put in a lot of effort in for this club...and for him to be in the middle of these transfers rumours for weeks isn't fair to him. I guess we don't really need him as much anymore, but the same could be said about Lichsteiner...but they're good when someone like Dani Alves is injured. As for Allegri, there has been a lot of rumours about him going to Arsenal, but yeah, it may be time for change. Buffon is going to be 39 at the end of the month which is hard to believe that a keeper of that age can still show master class! We've said time and time again his agility isn't what it used to be, but his mentality has really allowed him to keep his game. Yes, hopefully he can finish on a good note, which he should be able to do, provided Italy can play as they did last Euros in 2018 WC. On that note, what do you think of Infantino and FIFA officially voting for a 48 team World Cup in 2026? They did add 8 teams I think to the last Euros to 24, but that was a good number; allowed for some nice surprises from teams like Iceland, etc. 48 teams seems like it'd be too much, although they were saying they are going to do groups of threes and the top two from each go to sort of a round of 32 type deal. The same amount of games would be played still since there would only be two games in the first stage. I think that's how it's going to work. I mean it might be good for other countries to have international experience, but you'd get like 3000 people showing up to a 40000 seat stadium to watch two low class teams. Canada might be more likely to qualify though ahaha! Then on the other side, if you believe in your team enough and they're really good enough, they should be able to beat underdog teams (which Italy usually struggles with!). But then again do we really need Spain thrashing Tahiti 10-0? It's still 10 years away, but it seems a bit odd, but honestly I don't mind as much as some people. The new logo on the other hand is a drastic change. I guess they were going for a more contemporary look, but seriously, it looks incomplete. Ever since Adidas became our new sponsor, things with the jersey and now the logo have changed. The jersey was tolerable, but this may be too drastic as it doesn't look like the prior logo at all. I think they're going a little too crazy with all the "J" stuff, J-Medical, J-Museum (which I really don't care about the name), but it looks like they applied that to the logo and it just looks wrong. You need the stripes and you need the bull. I saw some better renditions people were making on Facebook that looked tolerable; had the same logo encased in a badge border with the classic bull under the "hat" of the "J". The only thing I liked that they added a couple seasons ago was the 3 stars as I thought Agnelli saying they wanted to wait until another team won a second star was mind boggling...if you deserve the third star, you deserve the third star! (they might have been trying to stick it to the Man by not adding any stars since they already should've had the third star due to the revoked titles, but still). The Coppa Italia badge was cool too. The 2005 logo was basically the same logo as just this past one, except more modern. The one we just had was already modern enough. It wasn't broke, you don't need to fix it. Just seems like a really odd change...and they'll definitely use it on the jerseys now that I think about it. It would be cool to see them win the CL as the last year with the current logo. @Messirulez: Hi, long time no talk! Hope all is well. How about that win today over Porto?? Thankfully, we got the away win we needed, and who would've guessed from Pjaca and Dani Alves? There were so many chances throughout the game with Dybala's post, and offside goal...which was close...Higuain could never manage to get on the end of it with a final strike, and Khedira had some good chances as well. Alex Sandro played really well, providing some nice balls in, especially for Khedira's chance and Dani Alves' goal. Porto did not like the ref at all, but honestly, he did have a good officiating game. Telles made two very foolish tackles within quick succession, which costed Porto the match. Both challenges were worth yellows, and that's what he gets. It was good to see Buffon get a clean sheet and play against Casillas on his 100th CL appearance, but it was hard to see Bonucci left out due to some foolishness after Buffon should've gotten a clean sheet against Palermo. Juve have been getting the wins they need in the league and are looking pretty good for the title; they should also make it to the next round in CL, so let's hope they can get there and get a good draw. In other news, TFC acquired attacking midfielder Víctor Vázquez Solsona, which should be good a supplement to Giovinco, and it was also good to hear that Gio turned down Chinese offers! Balotelli has been given a couple red cards in recent matches, which won't look good, but I've read that Ventura is still considering him. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 00:04, 23 February 2017 (UTC)

Hi! I'm doing well thanks, how are you? Hope you're doing ok as well! Yeah, it was a good win to bring into the second leg...we just need to make sure we finish the job at home and don't do anything stupid or play with excessive arrogance, so we can advance to the quarter-finals. Yes, we did have a few chances, and I thought with how they were going (as many of them were central conclusions, except for Higuain's deflected shot, or went over or wide - except for Dybala's shot which hit the post, which was great and very unlucky...I'm not sure if Casillas was beaten or if he was covering the goal there) we wouldn't end up scoring and was even worried that we would end up conceding, especially when they had the one change with the header from the long ball, and when we gave a few risky back-passes to Gigi. Yes, to be honest Telles was quite reckless...the first one was definitely yellow, and although Lichsteiner turned his body to look for the foul, you can't come sliding in like that, so I don't think there was any argument...otherwise he did quite a good job (no penalty for Juve, the disallowed goal was offside...shame Dybala didn't let Mandzukic take the shot as he looked onside from the replay), aside from a few errors here and there. Yes, it's nice Buffon got a clean sheet on his 100th Champions League outing with Juve; Casillas also equalled Maldini as the player with most appearances in UEFA Club Competitions, but I can't find an article which mentions that anywherere...it was silly that Bonucci got put in the stands for arguing, as it could have cost us; and yes it's annoying to concede that late from a set piece when we should be keeping a clean sheet, but he can't get carried away...I guess it's good for Allegri to show he is boss, and fortunately we maanged to pick up a good win in Porto so his exclusion wasn't an issue. Alex Sando is fantastic...so underrated, and so unfortunate that he has to compete for a spot with Marcelo and Felipe Luis on the national team, because he should be starting on any other national team, but at the same time, they also have two very good left-backs already... That's nice that Toronto FC managed to pick up a player like that; in the MLS he should definitely excel as he isn't very old and should have the skill and vision to really be a good provider for Giovinco and Altidore. Yes, Balotelli has been playing badly again recently and not behaving well...we'll see what he does...I'm not expecting much from him so I don't get disappointed...he's not that young anymore now, and he is approaching what should have been his prime...at least we do have some other young forwards who have been playing well. Zaza has scored in his last two games for Valencia, even though he started off poorly and was dreadful for West Hame (funnily enough I thought he would be better suited to the faster paced and more physical Premier League rather than La Liga which is more based on individual skill and passing...). Hopefully the Italian teams can advance in the Europa League without too much trouble, especially after some good first leg results, and do well in the competition, especially given that they are finally allowing the winner to qualify for the CHampions League, which is an added incentive to do well in the competition. Best regards, Messirulez (talk) 13:23, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
@Messirulez: Hi, what's up? Firstly, the Milan win, was a well deserved win. We were dominating pretty much the whole match. The soccer gods knew Juve had to win. People saying the penalty was undeserved...De Sciglio hand balled it in the box, end of story. He might not have meant to block the ball, but it was, so it is a penalty.
Good to see Buffon pass Giampiero Boniperti in second-most Serie A appearances. He will likely break Boniperti's minute record was well as I read on Football Italia. Something that may interest you is the total number of appearances and goals he actually made officially. I fixed Boniperti's stats in his table on his article, he also played in the Latin Cup, Coppa dell'Amicizia other than just European Cup. He also played in the Copa Rio, but that is international, so falls under other...however isn't listed at List of Juventus F.C. records and statistics because I found the numbers didn't add up on the Italian wiki. The Coppa dell'Amicizia may not be official since it may be more of a friendly tournament, but the Latin Cup seems good. I'm not really sure what to do...I was thinking of asking on the FOOTY project?
Good to see Juve get through to the next round in Champions League after beating Porto in the last leg. Again, some people have the gull to say that Juve win off penalties. Maxi Pereira intentionally handled the ball in the box to keep in a shot that was surely destined for the back of the net. Most blatant penalty call ever; lucky the ref saw it! There wasn't going to be an easy draw, but Barcelona was probably the second worst option. They made an astounding comeback over PSG, which seemed too good to be true. Playing at the Camp Nou will be hard. The defence will have to be stellar. Juve faces them at home first, so they really need a result to take with them to Spain, which is why it will be different than the 2015 final. It really annoys me when we have draws like Monaco and Dortmund...then Juve and Barca, Real and Bayern...the same thing happened in the Euros. But that's that, they'll need to focus on that after Juve hopefully beats out Napoli in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi.
TFC kicked off their campaign a couple weeks ago, two draws from two, which isn't terrible for away games I guess, although they could've won both. Unfortunately, Gio picked up an injury from a rough challenge last game, so he will miss the next match, but they've said it isn't too serious, so hopefully he will be back soon. I'm also curious to see who Ventura calls up for the couple national team matches in the coming weeks. There will be a qualifier that is always a must win. I'm surprised he hasn't already made them. He'll probably call up some new faces, as he seems like he likes to do that. I don't know about Balo, he's had a little bit of a downturn with a couple red cards, but scored again recently, so hopefully he can pick it up. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 20:11, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
Hi! How are you? Yes, it's always nice to beat Milan, especially after the Supercoppa Italiana loss. Yeah, we dominated, and Donnarumma played very well; I actually missed the game, but I saw in the news that the pundits were going crazy over his performance. At first when I saw the highlights I thought, ok, he made some decent stops, but I'm worried they're overhyping because he's young, then towards the end of the highlight reel I was really amazed at how good his shot-stopping is. He's definitely been really good, and he's so mature and composed under pressure for a young guy, which is probably more important than anything, and his fundamentals are really good, so he isn't just all reflexes and speed but unreliable other times. Yeah...I can understand the annoyance about the hand-ball on behalf of the Milan fans...it definitely hit his hand, and it was out a bit, so they can't really complain about that (but you know, Juve are always at fault because of their dodgy history...even though their long-time president has an even sketchier past as no one really knows how exactly he built his fortune...) but it wasn't really raised and it wasn't voluntary either, and the refs really need to be more consistent with the rule and judging whether it was ball to hand or hand to ball. I personally also think they should change the rule as it's ridiculous that a penalty is awarded for something like that. Unless a player blocks a clear shot on goal (like Maxi Pereira in the Juve–Porto game), I don't see why a penalty should be given; why not just award an indirect free-kick in the area, which is still a very good scoring opportunity?! It's the same when players with a knack for diving, like Neymar, Suarez, or Cristiano Ronaldo, will go down with the slightest contact, even when they have their back to goal, and are awarded a penalty; if they can still continue despite the contact, and if they aren't being impeded from having a real goalscoring opportunity, I don't see how a penalty can be awarded. It's the same with shirt pulling in the area. I also think that sometimes the last man foul on goalkeepers is too strict, and sometimes on defenders...if they are clearly going for the ball and accidentally get the player, I think it's harsh for them to be sent off and also suffer a penalty, although I do understand it would be hard to implement otherwise (I think the same could possibly be said for the Maxi Pereira handball which led to a straight red card; although the current regulation is extremely clear on that, and he did prevent a certain goal with his hand, I'm not 100% sure he meant to block it with his hand as I think he was just diving in the way of the ball with his body; I think it might be better to give a penalty and a yellow card for something like that, unless a player pulls a Luis Suarez vs. Ghana at the 2010 World Cup, and clearly sticks his hand out on purpose to prevent what would have definitely been a goal, then a player definitely deserves a red card). I'm glad we beat Porto, but it's a shame we got Barcelona...you never know, but it will certainly be difficult, and I feel that having the second leg at home is an advantage for them, as was shown with PSG. They certainly showed that they will be tough to beat with the second leg win, but the first leg also demonstrated that they do have weaknesses; furthermore I do think they did have some fortunate decisions with some of the penalties and free kicks which led to goals, but they did play well and did manage an incredible come back and have some great players and on paper are one of the best teams. We have gotten better, even though we haven't played fantastically in the Champions League so far (and we haven't faced too many really strong teams), and do have a very good defence, so we need to be really organised and try and take advantage of their defensive weaknesses and their vulnerability from set pieces, although it's easier said than done. Yes, it's frustrating that Moncao and Leicester got the easier draws (I'm annoyed Leicester sacked Ranieri after what he managed to do last year, even though this season things weren't going well...I really don't know what happened with the players this year, or why they would turn against him, because now all of a sudden that he left, they have started playing well again with the energy and vigour they had last year...but still, without him I doubt they would have gotten an away goal against Sevilla, which was crucial), but Atletico Madrid are still a very tough side, and Borussia Dortmund are also still a good team. Hopefully Juve can advance to the Coppa Italia final, which is always nice. Yes, it's always nice to see Buffon break more records; yeah, the appearance ranking of Boniperti is a bit confusing, as several sources said he had made 444 Serie A appearances, and Del Piero overtook him with his 445th...but now the Italian wikipedia page and also the Juve statistics site say he made 443...not sure what to do about that. And yes, there is also conflicting information regarding some of the other tournaments, so I'm not sure what to do about that. Next thing, Buffon can equal and overtake Zanetti in Serie A and only be second behind Maldini...
I saw the Italy international call-up list by Ventura...hopefully we can get a good result. Balo has at least managed to hit double figures (and from what the French teams are doing in Europe it seems the French league isn't all that bad...), but after a strong start, it seems he has returned to his usual, petulant and inconsistent, undisciplined self. It's such a shame to see him like this when he could be such a great blend of talent, power and pace. But there have been so many promising young Italian players (and not only Italian, if you think of people like Pato, Robinho, Gourcuff, D'Alessandro, Ortega...) who turned out to be such a disappointment. Domenico Morfeo is someone who was the same age as Totti, and initially seemed like a genuine superstar, even superior to Totti initially (who to me was also a bit of a disappointment with Italy considering his potential, and how good his vision is), with his vision, passing, and control, and his striking ability from distance, but he was lazy, and problematic and also injury prone. Cassano was also a disappointment for similar reasons, and now he's not even wanted by anyone (I still can't believe he wasted his opportunity with Real Madrid)...it's so frustrating, considering how talented he was with his first touch, close control in tight spaces, as well as creativity, vision, and ability to provide assists, especially when you see someone like Ibra who is still one of the best into his late 30s. We do have some interesting players at least; although Berardi has struggled to play a lot with his recent injury problems, Belotti has been great (reminds me a bit of Vieri or Shevchenko), and Torino do have several other young, interesting Italian players, as do Atalanta; Gagliardini has also been playing well for Inter, too (so has Gabbiadini since joining Southampton; shame about his injury though), and Insigne, Bernardeschi and Candreva have all generally been quite good, although they have had some up and down periods.
Too bad Giovinco has already gotten injured, but hopefully with Victor Vazquez, the two of them can combine well and Toronto can do well both in the MLS and in the Concacaf Champions league this season.

Best regards, Messirulez (talk) 18:32, 20 March 2017 (UTC)

@Messirulez: I'm well thanks. Oh yes, how could I forget how well Donnarumma played; he did play on his head. Especially in the last 10-20 minutes, he was stopping everything. Yeah, handballs definitely need to be called more consistently, and all calls in the box for that matter, like all the examples you raised. I would probably still want that penalty to be called though, as he should've been more careful where his arm was. It wasn't tucked in, and was extended a bit, so it blocked a potential goal scoring cross into the box. Then people said there was only 3 minutes of added time, and the goal happened in the seventh minute. Yes, but the red card occurred around the third minute, which added time on, plus the penalty, which was probably taken a minute after it was called. This is why it was in the seventh minute, regardless of the initial time added. I also heard commentators say Maxi's red card could've been a yellow and a penalty. I don't know...it did look like there was a possibility that he blocked it on purpose. I mean the shot was going in, and he lunged into the shot with his arms extended... so it that is risk of a red card. But yes, Barca will be tough...I also think playing the first game at home is a disadvantage as it is obvious Barca can come back from any aggregate from the first leg. And I can already see Juve just defending at the Camp Nou if they come out of Torino with a 2-0 aggregate or something and getting bit in the ass. With Boniperti's appearances, I think 443 may be most widely accepted, but my real question is whether his Latin Cup and other cup appearances count as official. I'll probably ask on the FOOTY project page. Yes, I saw Ventura's calls yesterday, some of which are new faces. Since their just facing Albania and Netherlands friendly, it probably doesn't matter too much, but I hope he will call up Balo for the June or September call ups. The Spain match in September will be the big turning point. But they mustn't underestimate Albania, as they did Macedonia. Yes, Toronto won on the weekend without Gio and with a Vazquez goal, so hopefully they can pick it up from there and Gio will be back soon. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 20:26, 20 March 2017 (UTC)
Yes, I agree that De Sciglio's arm was already out (although he didn't move it towards the ball either; this is where referees are inconsistent and it is frustrating for some fans) and it definitely hit his hand, and there have been similar cases in the past in which a handball has been called, and, likewise, where play was allowed to continue, so I think that either decision would have been permissible given how inconsistent referees are, so it's ridiculous that people are so outraged, but I suppose calls late into the game are always controversial (but there was less outrage from PSG over the officiating in the Barcelona return leg match). Regarding a possible solution of only awarding a penalty for an infraction which prevented a goalscoring opportunity, In this case it is true that the cross could have led to a scoring opportunity (even though with Lichsteiner's lack of accuracy with his distribution from the right flank in recent seasons...maybe not, haha), or not, so you're right that sometimes it would be difficult to assess if it could have been a genuine goalscoring opportunity in a situation like that. I suppose an example where I think having an indirect free kick would be better would be something like the penalty Italy were awarded against Chile in the 1998 World Cup, where Baggio cleverly hit a cross against a defender's hand which was stretched out; he was really looking for it there (he even admitted it later, although he was generally very sportsmanlike, and he was an amazing player, especially for Italy, so I can't fault him too much for doing that, especially as he really saved us from a loss that game!) so it was quite a harsh penalty (even though at the time I was very young and excited Italy had the chance to equalise). But going back to the Juve penalty, probably if it had occurred with another team there wouldn't have been such controversy, but when Juve are involved, because of their history and envy, of course the other teams always blame the officials, even though Juventus are by far the strongest team at the moment and the quality of the league and the opposition isn't what it used to be. And as I have said, Milan's president during their glory years funded the club with money that he made which has very obscure origins, and no one really ever mentions that, which I always find frustrating, just like I find it equally frustrating that no one ever mentions the doping accusations against the Grande Inter team under Herrera, but they mention Zeman's accusations against Juve under Lippi, even though they have not been proven. Yes, the penalty incident occurred very late in the game, but similar things have happened late into injury time in the Premier League due to time wasting (and Real Madrid scored the equaliser in the 2014 Champions League final in a similar manner); furthermore, the opposite has occurred, where there have been many occasions where refs have not taken time wasting into account, and usually there is an unwritten rule that if you have a ball in an attacking area the ref will let the clock run on until the play is finished. Probably if I were a Milan fan, I would be a bit annoyed, whereas being a Juve fan I brush everything off in this case, but I try to see why others might be frustrated at some of the calls, whereas most fans can rarely be objective and see both sides of the argument, even though frequently decisions in football are about what is the most correct decision, as sometimes the course of play can be unclear to assess, especially in real time. And yes, according to the current regulation, I completely agree that the Maxi Pereira handball should have been a red card, as it prevented a goal; I guess I think that maybe the rule is a bit harsh at the moment and should be revisited, as it's difficult to tell whether he meant to block the ball with his hand or not, although some replays do look suspicious, so it is definitely possible he meant to, but it wasn't as obvious as the infamous Luis Suarez example (and unfortunately Ghana missed that penalty...). Fingers crossed for the Barca game. I think Juve can defend if they do it well, although it is easier said than done...with Barcelona it's really quite funny how some matches are so different, as so much of it has to do with the mindset of the players; against some teams, you see Barcelona tearing them apart even though they have all their players behind the ball; against others, you see the players getting frustrated because they pass it around but can't seem to break through the lines. The important thing will be to have prepared the match really well, not be arrogant, but at the same time be confident in the team's strengths (their defensive ability and their organisation, and some of our players' superiority in the air, like Bonucci, Chiellini and Mandzukic), as we have gotten better this year. I do worry though that some of the players we have purchased aren't doing as well in Europe (Pjanic at times looks great, and has quite good stats, but he also doesn't seem to pull the strings in Europe, and Higuain isn't scoring as much in Europe either; Dani Alves didn't start off too well, and he was also injured, but is improving.) I hope Dybala will be back. The only positive aspect is knowing that teams who weren't quite as good have managed to beat Barca in the past, like Inter, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, and PSG probably deserved to go through even though Barcelona did produce one of the craziest games ever in the second leg, albeit with some fortunate decisions. I know Spain are a different team, and don't have Barcelona's front three, but Italy at Euro 2016, with a much less talented squad also managed to get the job done against Spain by being organised in their defending and counterattacks. We'll see what happens. I think Allegri will leave at the end of the season, so it would be great for him to go out with the Champions League, but it's still a difficult objective. Buffon stated in an interview that the Champions League is one of the things motivating him to prolong his career, and we have both said how we would love him to win it before he retires, as it's the one major trophy he is still missing. Yeah, I hope Ventura will really kick the players in the butt and make sure they play their best against Albania and not produce a languid display, giving only their bare minimum. The friendly I don't care too much about; it's always good to face a strong opponent and rotate the squad so they obtain experience, but otherwise, it's only a friendly and doesn't really matter all that much.

Templates

Good work on creating Italian football updater, but I was thinking that ITALs is actually unnecessary as Italy generally has rather short division names (the whole purpose of creating it for the English one was because we have some leagues with very long names that would full up the main updater template (e.g. Spartan South Midlands Football League Premier Division).

For instance, in the updater, you have SerieA but it would actually be more efficient just to put in Serie A. Cheers, Number 57 23:05, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

@Number 57: Ah, that makes sense. So are you suggesting then to delete the ITALs template page and just use Serie A/Serie B/Lega Pro/Serie D in the main page? Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 23:10, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
Yes, I think it would be a bit simpler, if you're ok with it? I see there are some longer names at the Excellenza level, but nothing like having to type out Spartan South Midlands League Prenier Division. My main concern for the English one was cluttering it up and making it difficult to read (as it was big enough already), but hopefully it's not an issue here. Number 57 23:15, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
@Number 57: Yes, I would be okay with it, however what about in the instance of Lega Pro/A, Lega Pro/B, Lega Pro/C, Serie D/G, Serie D/H? Then it may be necessary to have the ITALs template since we need to make it apparent which group of the league they are in which can take up space. There are also some other "longer names" like Seconda Categoria when you start getting into near the bottom of the Italian football system structure, however, I think after Serie D, the next level Eccellenza, would be tough to create as we are talking hundreds and hundreds of teams from a dozen regions in Italy, and that's even before we consider Promozione. I guess we would only do it for the clubs that have articles anyway though, however, very minimal in Eccellenza and I believe zero in Promozione. Take a look at Association football league system in Italy.. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 23:24, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
I guess it just depends how much space it takes to write the full name of the division, including the group, but if it's just Serie D Group A, I don't think it's too bad. It would be good to include the Eccellenza levels for the clubs that have articles, as one of the reasons I created the English one was because there are clubs below our usual cut-off that rarely get updated. If you open English football updater and search for Anglian Combination, they're all the club's below the cutoff. Number 57 07:35, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
@Number 57: In that case, just keep ITALs for now as if we include Eccellenza, it will end up being for example Eccellenza Sicily/A, which may start to get more cluttered. The thing with these templates is that it's a lot of work upfront, but once it's complete, it would become easier, and with me likely being the only one filling in the Italian updater, it will take some time since in Serie D, most teams have articles, and there are about 18 teams from group A-I... Not to mention, after you complete the leagues in the template, then you have to go around to all the teams in the league to add the template. In Eccellenza Sicily the clubs haven't been updated since 2012–13 on its main page, which is also a porblem as there are many regions in Eccellenza, and with limited editors in Italian football (unlike English football), it becomes hard to keep everything up to date. I know the main purpose of you creating these templates is to help with lower level clubs, which don't get updated as for example U.S.D. Alcamo hasn't been updated since 2006–07! So it will be tough, but I'm sure I can get it there eventually. Also I think this was an issue raised on the project page, that most of the clubs say "currently play in Serie D" for example, but if they get relegated to Eccellenza, the template will change, but the lead will stay the same, which is a problem that can only get dealt with manually. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 14:01, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
Actually, you can use the template in the text so the lead changes too. For example, I installed the template into the introduction in Elmore F.C. (diff) so if the league changes, both the infobox and introduction do too. Number 57 14:09, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
Also, regarding the example above, would there be an issue with simply using Eccellenza Sicily/A or Eccellenza Sicily A? Number 57 14:12, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

@Number 57: Oh, true, that's cool! Are you only putting it for low level teams, or would you even do it for the second tier Championship? Maybe the Championship gets updated better, but it might even be good for Serie B teams, but definitely Lega Pro and everything below. Also with your /A suggestion, that is actually probably the best as now that I think about it, only the actual league should be probably be linked. I'll probably change that for the promoted Lega Pro teams I've already done too. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 14:16, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Yes, I'll only be putting it in non-league club articles for now – I think higher levels get enough traffic for them to be updated.
If you don't need to do the piping (so reducing the text length) it might still be simpler to avoid using ITALs. Cheers, Number 57 14:27, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
@Number 57: Okay, sounds reasonable; if you want to go ahead and delete it go for it. Let me know if you do, so I can input the leagues in the main updater page, unless you feel compelled to do so afterwards :) May as well delete its /doc page too. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 14:35, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
I've deleted it and cleaned up the main updater. I hope with a few countries the separate template won't be needed (I know for Israel it won't as the longest league name is Liga Gimel Lower Galilee! If I have time I'll also look to help out adding the lower leagues to your template. What's a good website for the lower levels that shows last year's tables? Cheers, Number 57 16:40, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
@Number 57: Thanks for your offer, that would be a huge help! The thing is, is that the sites are usually minimal, especially in English. I've found Serie D (no tables, just teams for next season) Lega Pro (which still as some gaps in teams that were relegated) and Eccellenza which has results only for Serie D and Eccellenza. Soccerway isn't bad, but only goes to Serie D and has some gaps. What I usually do is go onto the Italian wiki pages, as they are updated much more frequently, for tables, especially Serie D and Eccellenza. I know it isn't good to go off of tables on wiki, but sometimes it's all we have... Do the best you can if you have time! I'll start up again when I have more time next week. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 17:16, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

@Number 57: Hey man, sorry, I haven't had much time to focus on the Italian football updater template as during the summer I was focusing on expanding List of Juventus F.C. seasons and adding a ton of matches to Derby d'Italia and Derby della Mole. Now I still need to do them on Juventus F.C. – A.C. Milan rivalry. I think you guys have finished doing all the English leagues right? I don't have anyone helping me with the template, so if you have some extra time here and there, it'd be cool if you could help finish it off. No rush. Thanks a million. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 21:23, 10 September 2016 (UTC)

No problem, I'll try and find some time this week. Cheers, Number 57 18:13, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Donnarumma

Hi there, sorry for my english... the source is clearly wrong, we just fix the italian page. Giuseppe Sacchi played for AC Milan in 1942 when he was younger than Donnarumma. --Vergerus (talk) 16:26, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

@Vergerus: Can you give me a source for that? Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 16:31, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

Yes I can: http://www.magliarossonera.it/protagonisti/Gioc-Sacchig.html

it's in italian, but you can see that this goalkeeper played his only game when he was 16, 7 months and a few days. --Vergerus (talk) 16:40, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

@Vergerus: But is it reliable? He doesn't have a Wikipedia article does he?...not that that really has a bearing. I'm a little busy right now, I'll look at it again in a few hours. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 16:44, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

That website is totally reliable. Anyway this Giuseppe Sacchi doesn't have his own WP page, since he played only 1 professional game, that one when he was 16, and then played only for semi-pro teams. I do have an AC Milan yearbook that also confirm that info, by the way... this one:http://collectibles.panini.it/store/col_ita_it/milal2005-it-almanacco-milan-almanacco-del-milan-2005.html

We use it as a source in the italian WP. Cheers --Vergerus (talk) 16:48, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

@Messirulez: Notifying you about this for your interest. Looks legit to me. Looks like they've made the changes to his Italian article. I've made the change to the English article, unless you see something we don't. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 22:05, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

Yes, that website is usually reliable and I have used it before when cleaning up several articles on former Milan players. There's also this source which confirms that which is definitely a reliable one http://www.enciclopediadelcalcio.it/SacchiGiuseppe.html. I didn't know about that so thanks for letting me know! Messirulez (talk) 21:23, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

Sorry for the late reply, I've been off wiki for the past week or so. Unfortunately I don't have the time to conduct a full review, but at first glance you and Messirulez have done a smashing job; prose is tighter and it's better sourced. Fingers crossed the GA review goes smoothly this time, Lemonade51 (talk) 13:36, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi, @Lemonade51:. Once again, thanks for all the feedback you gave us on the Totti article, and for taking the time to look through it a second time. I know you're too busy to do any more reviews at the moment, but I noticed that you had reviewed the Alessandro Del Piero article quite a while back, when had it failed the GA review twice before, due to several issues. Vaselineeeeeeee and I have cleaned the Del Piero article up quite a bit as well, tightening up the prose, adding much more information with many more reliable sources, and removing any unnecessary jargon, biased or overly flowery language; we have nominated it again, and I was just wondering, if you had a bit of time at all to skim through it, if you had any similar suggestions you could give us on how we could improve it further in order for it to have a better chance of passing the GA review. Thanks again for all your time and help! Best regards, Messirulez (talk) 16:21, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

No need anymore, it's been passed! Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 16:59, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi there, Just noticed you removed a citation needed tag which was added by an IP to Tiramisu. This info is not cited in the article so I was just wondering why you removed the tag? 2016-17 Serie A (Attendance Data)

Hi Vaselineeeeeeee, I saw that you reverted now twice to the old format. It took me quite a while to compose that nice and clear chart you now cancelled twice (although the first time you were right as I had pressed Save by mistake when it wasn't yet complete). First of all it is way more readible than this 'copy/past' version, moreover is more accurate (read: official data), and last but no less important, I've used the most commonly used format adopted in similar pages on Wikipedia.

I'm gonna revert to that, please before re-revert let me know what is the problem and if there is any reason why should we keep the messy one and scrap the tidy one.

Greetings

Marco — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marcoelitaliano (talkcontribs) 16:43, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

@Marcoelitaliano: Usually, attendance tables are frowned upon. Sorry, I hadn't realized there was a "copy/paste" version, that too should be removed. Shooters history

Hi Vaselineeeeeeee. First I would like to thank you for the recognition and support. Thanks for the suggestion and I will do what you asked for. I noticed your an Italian soccer fan I have on my list to do an article on the legendary Toronto Italia soccer club, this is still further down the list but God willing I will get to it someday. Anyways if you have any requests or need any assistance in topics regarding USL, CSL, or CNSL articles I would be more than willing to assist. God Bless, and Merry Christmas. Shotgun pete (talk) 10:58, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

@Shotgun pete: Thanks, the sub headings look good! Yeah, I particularly edit Italian football articles, big fan. Being from Toronto, I also have interests in soccer here locally, but don't have as much knowledge in that category, especially with CSL teams... really just had them in my watchlist for any vandalism. I'm surprised Toronto Italia doesn't have an article already... like I said I don't have much knowledge in it and I can't seem to find good sources in this space like you can, but if you ever need any help with a particular area, I can probably help in order to have a better versed collection of Canadian soccer teams on Wikipedia; even if it's just a stub in the beginning sort of like York Region Shooters was before you got to it! Merry Christmas to you as well! Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 01:26, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi Vaselineeeeeeee! I recently created the article Canada national futsal team. I know that you edit lots of soccer related articles and I would really appreciate it if you could look over the article and make or recommend any changes. Thanks, Jith12 (talk) 23:22, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

@Jith12: Hi. I don't know much about futsal, but it looks like a good starting article. I would recommend using "–"dashes instead of "-". You can find the proper dash on the bottom ribbon of the editing window. I would also recommend moving the article title to "Canada men's national futsal team" if there is a women futsal team to stay consistent with other Canada national teams. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 01:46, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi! Thanks for the recomendation about the dashes. I'll implement them whenever I can. About the namespace thing. It seems that all other national futsal team articles say "(Insert country name here) national futsal team" rather than "(Insert country name here) national men's futsal team". From my research, Canada Soccer does not have an official women's futsal team. Also, FIFA does not sanction any women's futsal tournaments, which is unfortunate. Do you still think I should change the name or keep it the same? Thanks, Jith12 (talk) 21:04, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

@Jith12: I think you're right. For example United States national futsal team. There doesn't seem to be official women's team for this sport, so you should be fine. Good looking article as of now, keep up the good work! Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 21:10, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

There is a limit to the number of templates that can be used on a page; if you exceed the limit, then the page won't completely load. Although there are currently 288 templates being called on this page, it's probably not the actual number of templates, but rather the total size of the additional code being transcluded into the page.
If you copy the code from just the External Links section into your sandbox, it previews/saves/displays perfectly. Therefore, there isn't a syntax error in the code. Perhaps it's time to split the article into sub-articles? Scottyoak2 (talk) 06:18, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

@Johnny Au: At first glance, it looked like blatant vandalism, but he may have a point that the jersey is not entirely right due to the new logo and such. I still think we should have the jerseys there until the new ones are coded (I don't know how to do that). Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 22:10, 27 January 2017 (UTC)
That is what I thought at first as well. I would like to wait for Hawkystar to reply. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 03:32, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

@Johnny Au: The jersey currently shown on the Toronto Maple Leafs page has two stripes at the bottom of the jersy (below the maple leaf). The correct jersey features one solid stripe below the maple leaf. It's not a huge mistake but it bothers me every time I see it!

@Johnny Au: Also the logo is incorrect. There should not be blue border (white for away jersey) around the maple leaf. It is also important to note that NHL jersey styles may change again next season due Adidas taking over.

You have a point, but I still don't think we should leave the jersey field empty. I don't really know the process to get new ones made...and if the jerseys will change next year it may be useless for now. 2016–17 Juventus F.C. season

What on earth is going on with this article? I just noticed the back and forth between the two IPs. Italia2006 (talk) 03:09, 29 January 2017 (UTC)

@Italia2006: Yeah...it was weird because one of the IPs kept on changing the 41,470 attendance in the infobox to 41,570 (which is a larger capacity than Juventus Stadium even is!) Contrary to this source. The source is used on the Juventus Stadium article as it is the highest attendance record to date, so we could probably use it on the season page too, although I didn't really find it that necessary. The person changing the attendance to the wrong one changed their IP half way through edit warring from 93.41.28.87 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) to 95.233.109.157 (talk · contribs · WHOIS). This IP 87.12.198.227 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) would revert it to the correct attendance, but was way over 3RR. We tried warning the IP, but he would write on the "good" IP's talk page in Italian, basically swearing and saying he'll continue to edit war (from what I understood). So I reported the page at WP:RFPP for persistent vandalism, and said a block may be needed as well, but the admin just protected the page. I think the "bad" IP wrote on the same talk page saying something along the lines of "you won", so I hope when the page becomes unprotected next week, we don't see him again. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 15:09, 29 January 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the response, gotcha. Italia2006 (talk) 16:00, 29 January 2017 (UTC)
@Italia2006: Hey, you know how we link the match number in the football collapsible boxes to the derby if it's Juve vs Torino for example?...do you think we should link the Juve–Milan rivalry page for their matches as well?...it doesn't have a specific name like Derby della Mole, but it still represents a derby/rivalry. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 20:26, 29 January 2017 (UTC)
Oh absolutely. You beat me to it actually, I was about to do that but you go right on ahead. Italia2006 (talk) 21:53, 29 January 2017 (UTC)
@Italia2006: Sounds good, you can do it for Milan's seasons, if you like, and I'll do Juve's. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 22:11, 29 January 2017 (UTC)
Will do, cheers. Italia2006 (talk) 04:25, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

Italian language

Hi, I'm tied up at work, can you check the deletion from the above article (part of the reason for the deletion was politically charged???). Thanks Denisarona (talk) 15:50, 11 February 2017 (UTC)

@Denisarona: I've told the IP to take it to the talk page for a deletion like this (and reverted for now). Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 16:10, 11 February 2017 (UTC)

A beer for you!

Many thanks. Denisarona (talk) 12:36, 12 February 2017 (UTC)
@Denisarona: Hey, thanks! Happy to help! Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 15:40, 12 February 2017 (UTC)

Roma Derby

Hi,

Can you explain why you reverted my edit on the Rome derby? To me it seems a little longwinded and unnecessary to use their entire full names, especially when the actual links are "A.S. Roma" and "S.S. Lazio" anyway? Cheers! The Madras (talk) 16:35, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

@The Madras: We've done it like this on all Italian derby pages: Derby d'Italia, Derby della Mole etc., so I did it for consistency. Maybe we should change all the derby pages to their simplified names? Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 16:47, 14 February 2017 (UTC)
I've corrected them for all Italian football derbies. It is probably better that way to have the condensed name in the infobox. Thanks. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 20:53, 14 February 2017 (UTC):::
Thanks, yesterday I did a quick look and only the Italian derbies were written like that. E.G Le Classique, Manchester Derby, North London Derby were all shortened. Thanks for the editing anyway! The Madras (talk) 13:12, 15 February 2017 (UTC)
@The Madras: Exactly. I did that comparison myself as well. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 13:14, 15 February 2017 (UTC)

Canada men's national soccer team

Hey Vaseline! I've added a bunch of references to Canada men's national soccer team. Do you think that the article still warrants the "This article needs additional citations for verification" template? There are now 69 citations in total. Thanks, Jith12 (talk) 22:38, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

@Jith12: Thanks for your citation additions! When I saw you adding a bunch in a week or two ago, I was actually thinking about that "needs citation template" as well. Although you added a lot of sources, a good portion of the 1990s section remains unreferenced and the 2000s section is almost completely unsourced too. I think if you can add a few more to each section, it could probably be removed. Keep up the good work. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 22:50, 26 February 2017 (UTC)
Will do! Thanks for the encouragement! Regards, Jith12 (talk) 22:58, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

2016–17 Serie A#Hat-tricks

Hey dude can you do me a favor and figure out what the hell happened to this table? I'm assuming an IP is to blame, but I can't figure out what they did. Italia2006 (talk) 04:10, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

@Italia2006: I thought it looked okay? Where do you see the problem? The only thing that might be new is them including players who scored four goals by adding the subscript 4 to them, which I think is a pretty good idea. Regards, Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 13:50, 11 March 2017 (UTC)
No the superscript has always been fine, it must have been my computer. Italia2006 (talk) 15:40, 11 March 2017 (UTC)
