Minority rights violations in Kosovo edit

A while ago, in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Persecution of Serbs and other non-Albanians in Kosovo, you said the subject was documented, but didn't address the issue of improper synthesis. Would you be interested in working on that subject in a less contentious scope? I noticed we don't have a human rights in Kosovo article yet, and a lot of that content sounds like it might fit there. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 10:48, 4 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Đorđe Branković (count) edit

Hello. I've written a corresponding article on ro.Wikipedia. I based my version on a critical edition of his Romanian chronicle, which was brought out by Romanian historian Damaschin Mioc, who has relied on the 1911 biography of Radonic.

I've got two questions and I'd be glad if you had the answers:). Did you mean to write allegiance instead of alliance in the quote: "Csáky visited the Habsburg Emperor Leopold I in Vienna, and offered him Cantacuzino's, Branković's, and his own alliance"?

Second, is the reburial date actually 1743? Mioc states 1734 and I wonder if it was your typo or his mistake. Regards, --Mihai (talk) 17:52, 4 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello Mihai, and thanks for your interest for Count Branković :) As for the first question, I meant alliance, as they were not quite subordinate to the Habsburgs at that time. As for the second question, I'll check the source later and inform you, as right now I don't have the time to do it. Greetings, Vladimir (talk) 19:56, 4 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
I checked Radonic 1911. Regarding alliance vs allegiance, it says in p. 264: Гроф Чаки је опет мислио да ће више обвезати ћесара тиме, ако му поред влашкога кнеза Шербана укаже још на једнога савезника, од кога би ћесар, у случају судара са Турском, имао такођер доста користи. Translated: Count Csaky thought that he would oblige the Emperor more if he brought to [the Emperor's] notice that there was yet another ally [Brankovic] beside the Wallachian Prince Serban, who could be also very useful in the event of a confrontation with Turkey [referring to Brankovic]. So Serban and Brankovic would be allies, but in the case of Csaky, "allegiance" could be indeed a more appropriate term.
Regarding 1743 vs 1734, it says in p. 615: Тако су Бранковићеви земни остаци у јесен 1743 ношени кроз Чешку, Аустрију и Угарску до Карловаца. Brankovic's erthly remains were thus carried in the autumn of 1743 through Czechia, Austria and Hungary to Karlovci. His remains were then solemnly carried from Karlovci to the Krusedol Monastery to be buried there.
I hope this was helpful. Greetings, Vladimir (talk) 17:04, 5 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi. Thanks very much for the quick reply. Ok, Radonic knows better why he chose the term ally in that context. I guess everybody in the Balcans knew that an alliance with the Imperials actually meant allegiance, that's why Serban and his succesor Constantin Brâncoveanu were so reluctant to switch sides - as Radonic showed in the definitive paper on Șerban Cantacuzino's foreign relations, published in 1913.
I'll change that date, thanks for checking. If I can ever be of assistance with a Romanian source/translation, don't hesitate to ask me. Regards, --Mihai (talk) 21:33, 8 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
No problem. Vladimir (talk) 18:41, 9 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

The name srbosjek edit

[2] Hi VVVladimir, I see you added some sources about srbosjek. Is there, in those books, a mentioning about how the knife got that name? Please, join me on talk page so we can disscuss that issue. For years now I was looking for the source on how that knife got the name srbosjek. Was reading a number of books written by Jasenovac concentration camp inmates and some don't even mention the use of the knife at all and none of them mentions that name srbosjek as being the name for the knife. My opinion is that we need a source for the name from an Jasenovac inmate calling that knife srbosjek to prove it, as the name could have been invented in later years. If that was the name, at that time 1941-1945, how come its not mentioned in those early books from 1945, 1946, 1948, by surviving inmates? Not even in 1975 book by ex inmate dr. Nikola Nikolic or in a book from 1985 by 29 Jewish inmates, which is 2nd ed.? I'm particularly interested in this source Israeli 2013 The book is from 2013. The cite you added mentions surviving inmates who remember the Srbosek but does not mentions surviving inmates' names. Can you provide, if there is one, a quote from Israeli's book, who those inmates are? And also the source on which the writer Raphael Israeli calls upon for that cite?--Rovoobo Talk 02:08, 18 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

See WP:PSTS: Wikipedia articles should be based primarily on reliable, published secondary sources, and that's what I added. Your original research and opinion that "the name could have been invented in later years" is of no encyclopedic interest. If you find an answer to your question "how that knife got the name srbosjek" in reliable published secondary sources, feel free to add it in the article. Vladimir (talk) 11:36, 18 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
So what's Israeli's source in that book? Do you have that book?--Rovoobo Talk 11:50, 18 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

It's a great article. I just read it. You should nominate it for GA. The article is interesting, and neutral. The sources are reliable... all in all, I think it would pass without any major problems. I'll help you in any way I can, if I gather any useful information for the article, I'll let you know. But the article as it looks now definitely can be a GA. Perhaps you could also nominate it for DYK, since it is relatively unknown that Nebojša Radmanović was the first director of the Archives. --AnulBanul (talk) 17:39, 8 May 2015 (UTC)Reply
Well, thanks for your kind words and offered help. It's a bit too late for DYK, and currently I have another article for GAN. Maybe later I could nominate it, with some more information added. Vladimir (talk) 18:06, 8 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Superb work! Can I interest you in joining Wikipedia:WikiProject Intertranswiki, dedicated to translation of content from other wikis and addressing systematic bias. Each month we have a stub focus, and you're welcome to add 10 missing Serbian xxx articles like Serbian/Bosnian publishers or whatever and help work towards creating articles on them. Articles beyond stubs will be emboldened. The idea is to translate content and verify it with reliable sources, or if the content on other wikis isn't of high quality, simply to create the articles. The overall goal is to match categories, and have the same articles in English as in the foreign article equivalent and as good a coverage in English as in the native language!♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:35, 2 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

I am a happy member of the project and invite you - even if you don't want to do translation jobs - to just watch and see if translations from languages you know can be improved. - Also I believe in creating stubs: not much work for a single article but making the original better accessible for those who can read it, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:35, 2 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:09, 19 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
