Thor

I rated it at C because it doesn't include the key sections that each film article should have (due to the fact it is unreleased). These include the information about its reception and box office performance, in addition to soundtrack, controversy, awards, home media release, etc. Some of these may not be relevant when the film is released (there may be no awards or controversy for example). If the film continues to remain well-sourced and covers all of these sections, it will have no issues getting to B and then GA shortly thereafter. Let me know if you need any clarification. Thor (Marvel Comics)

Ah, I know what I was doing - counting Heroes Reborn (duh). Fair enough. Images, however, shouldn't be scrunched against the SHB, and Hercules is mentioned in the Thor nav box and vice versa. No need for anything else. The Gaea ref. is questionable, and I will have to check that. By the by, it is also a little silly to say to someone that I "showed up at the Thor article." Well, we should hold off playing with the images as I'm going to add another three to four solid paragraphs that cover all the missing years. That will obviously allow for some movement. • A merging, good question. I think like you redundant and unlikely to be expand but if somebody begin to write a resume on all the races it could become a long article. I am on the merging position, same with Olympians (Marvel Comics) and Olympus (Marvel Comics)
• Improve the fictional history, it would ask me to read again the comics and I have some holes in it. I promise nothing but in the future, I can certainly take a look.
• About the citations, I can certainly help. Do you want a citation for each character, the first apparition and creators ?
• Do you plan to talk about character like Beta Ray Bill or the mythological animals ?
• It is maybe necessary to add a note on Loki because a lot of people will certainly move it into Asgardians race. If your read his article, you will find After slaying the King of the Frost giants Laufey, Odin found a small Asgardian-sized child.

I support you in principle, but I'm afraid all I can do is ask for a second opinion. I cannot single-handedly ignore established rules.You nominated it as an article that had been created on 24 July, when in fact the move into article space happened on 25 July. In either case, both are too old for a nomination on 31 July. I think it should be allowed since it was in fact someone else who moved the article, and I believe this constitutes a violation of user rights. Maintaining The Avengers

If we wind up with the project article, I assume you'll keep up with its maintenance? I think that the proper format for this unprecedented article is to avoid the typical lead sentence, to avoid using the film infobox (blurs the line too much), and to avoid film-related categories. Actually, I would highly recommend that you put in a DYK right now, and it will simply be placed on hold while the AFD is ongoing. If the refurbished article is kept, the DYK will go through. You made some terrific contributions in creating the article. I do understand Erik's worry though... but my own thought is that in this case you did a good job in sourcing... and have shown the required notability. Other past articles did not show the notability you found, and as-yet-unwritten future articles on non-films will have to meet the higher standards your work has set... as the bar for unmade films has been properly raised. And oh... check out the manner in which I tagged and collected the refs for easy access... a tool that has proved valuable to me in many other articles. Hello. I didn't quite realize the the IMDB wasn't a reliable and reasonable source for film information. Hence, you reverted out my additions to the article on the film RED without discussion. I do know that most if not all of the characters and their players are correct because I saw a pre-pre screening by Summit Pictures last evening (August 11, 2010). So I knew they were correct according to this working cut of the entire film I saw and noted that (which you removed also).

IMDB relies on user submitted information for its database though mostly accurate, it is known to post misinformation (particularly with future films). Hi. Yes, good points. The trouble is ultimately how one knows the characters and players in anything on the screen or stage. Sometimes the original play or screenplay or script doesn't quite match the cut and public version released. I'm reasonably sure I remembered the character names from last evening's screening, and I thought IMDB was reasonably spot on in this case, but I can't be 100% sure of some of the surnames. Even Hollywood reportage doesn't work for this mapping of characters and players. The citations in the article are to press anticipations of roles so I think, although a solid place from which to quote, they might be way off in terms of the final product. Thor change (removal of "and Loki killed")...

Hi TripleThreat, recently, you have removed "Asgard itself is toppled and Loki killed by the Sentry" from Thor (Marvel Comics)‎ - due to the notability of the event, the fact that it's only a three word addition (as opposed to lots of unecessary verbiage) and the fact that Loki has always featured prominently in Thor's history (as well as in the Avengers), I do not agree with the removal. I have not changed your edit, but wished to discuss it with you to try to understand your perspective, and if needed, open this discussion on the Talk Page of the article for others to weigh in. Mostly I removed this becuase it is more notable to Loki and not Thor. Loki's death (and not the first might I add) was niether caused by Thor nor has had much effect on his character. Thanks. Though I definitely would have been willing to enter into discussion, whether separately with you here or on the article's talk page. Though, with a lot of his schemes, the outcome isn't a direct (planned) effect, his machinations have been the cause. For instance, the original Avengers reuniting in Thor (or was it Siege #4?) were due to these actions he set in motion. And of course being (currently) dead, he is unlikely to have an affect on Thor, but that too is (to me) notable because when he's alive, he generally has a profound affect (for instance, virtually every issue since their "rebirth") - so, yes, he no longer is having an affect on Thor's life (except in the aftermath of his actions - though I guess that's a pretty big affect), but it seems notable that the driving force for Thor's actions and responses is gone (at least for now, as the case usually is). Please do not misinterpret my absence (which happens periodically) for anything other than what is was. However I was put off by Sebastian's initial approach of consent reverting. Per WP:BRD after I reverted Sebastian's bold change (that information has been an accepted part of the article since March 17, 2010), it should have gone to discussion immediately without further reverting (thus the information would remain until settled). Yep, when I first heard about Aronofsky being involved with the Wolverine sequel, I thought it was strange. Then when I read Jackman's comments, I realized Aronofsky probably got interested in the superhero film because both of them worked pretty intimately on The Fountain. As a fan myself, I look at these photos and think, "Cool. Those looks like HYDRA tanks and that looks like a movie set with all sort of movie equipment." Then part of me thinks, "How could a fan simply 'bicycle through' it to take pictures, as one claims? All those props and equipment are extremely expensive, and aren't just sitting out there unprotected. That sets off a journalistic red flag. As for the street shots, they certainly look like they're on the set of the movie. But again, how does a civilian get in that close despite the presence of production assistants and other perimeter watchers, and use a camera — which has flash or makes noise that can disrupt a shoot? (The fact that searchlights are pouring through the holes tells me the shoot was active — a production doesn't leave expensive arc lights and other lights on indefinitely when not shooting.)

The circumstances all seem iffy to me, and that leaves the possibility that one or more of these may be hoax images; that sort of thing does happen on Wikipedia. This may explain why — despite all the interest in the movie, and how much a fans would want to see such pictures — no journalistic source so far feels confident enough about their provenance to vet them and run them in their magazine or associated web site ... not even a hobbyist publication such as Wizard.

If a magazine or even a local newspaper — both of which are interested in news and timeliness and in obtaining images that its competitors don't have — aren't confident enough to run these photos, then I'd be hard-pressed to argue that an an encyclopedia (which has a higher standard of proof since it's not "the first draft of history") can be confident in them.

Other experienced editors may feel differently, although honestly I wouldn't imagine so. It's a really good question you asked, however, and it's something I run into all the time with "legitimate" news sources — mistakes getting repeated in aggregate sites that don't independently check one source's claim against separate sources.

I guess one question we could ask of other editors is whether these pages can be listed as ELs, as we do with some company wikis or the likes of IMDb that we can't use as References. That's a discussion for a larger talk-page forum than WikiProject Comics'. I'd suggest bringing this up at Wikipedia talk:Identifying reliable sources and/or Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard. You analyzed the situation as well as any professional media critic. As much as it pains me to admit it, you are so correct that most news sources, whether professional or semi-pro fan-news sites, do simply repeat what others say before them, without independently checking. I see this constantly as a journalist. When I have to do an aggregated news story, I check a half-dozen or more different reports, at different levels of reporting from the local small-town paper's version to the wire-service report. Except for the Associated Press — which is amazingly good, the Michael Jordan of reportage — I'll find contradictions and dissonant points that need to be further checked out. I do it, since I'm writing for a big paper, and I know many other journalists do, too. But too many print what they find on the 'net somewhere, and out-and-out falsehoods get perpetuated — with a patina of "authoritativeness."

We're on the same page about wanting to use one or two of these images. Most, to be honest, don't really have encyclopedic value — lights projecting through a wall? A set-dressed battlefield? They don't tell us anything the plot doesn't. (The World War II-era tanks with a HYDRA logo do add a bit of news — and again, we're striving to be encyclopedic, not newsy.) But there is encyclopedic value in unstaged, nuts-and-bolts images of a movie being put together.

I guess the big takeaway from this is that while Wikipedia does use independent photography not published in traditional sources — our colleague Nightscream in particular has done terrific, important work documenting comics creators before they pass away — we need to perhaps bring up with the community at large some sort of vetting process for on-set photography by independent sources. I'm not sure how the mechanics would work — it's so easy to Photoshop images, and Wikipedia gets its share of pranksters, heaven knows. But not all movie-set photography has to be the polished, approved promotional images that a studio puts out.

It's something we might want to pursue. God knows when we'd have the time — I've been unable to help work out a consistent style for comics-creator bibliographies, which are currently all over the map..... --Tenebrae (talk) 14:15, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

That is a good question. I don't have much experience with images from Wikipedia Commons. I guess mostly it's commonly distinguishable stuff — a redwood tree, a bowl of cereal, some readily recognizable movie star. But for other things, I don't know the protocol or the vetting process. If I had to guess, it'd be that it's self-policing: If an image is inserted, other editors will ask for provenance.

Actually, I'm going to nose around and see if there's a Scottish newspaper online that might have mentioned filming in Culross. Production location is an important part of a movie article, as you rightly note, whether or not we have an image with a Culross street sign. I'll let you know what I find out. I've searched and come up with nothing at the town's website, the Culross page at a Fife site; the local newspapers Fife Today, Central Fife Times and Advertiser, and the Dunferline Press;, Scotland's national newspaper, The Scotsman; and the UK paper The Guardian (though some interesting comics articles came up here).

The second that the Avengers movie signed on to film at a Long Island studio, two Long Island periodicals ran stories. The fact that none of these news sources have said a word seems odd to me; local papers love to boost local events and special things like a movie shoot. And this isn't some little indie, but a major Hollywood production. I agree it looks likely that this is the Captain America shoot — but it could be another movie ... aside from the HYDRA tank, which could have been Photoshopped, there's nothing in the photos I've seen that concretely says it's First Avenger — one of the actors, a costume, something. Also, the fact that the people posting aren't using their full names or real names, so far as I've seen, throws up a red flag. The best hoaxes are the ones where you're absolutely convinced it's real.

Fortunately, we don't have to be newsy; all the locations will eventually be revealed once the actors and filmmakers start doing interviews and the credits come out with "Thank you to the people of Culcross" or whatever. --Tenebrae (talk) 01:08, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

That's cool. In any case, it's nice to have the opportunity as long as I'm here to compliment you on some absolutely kick-ass edits over the last month or so. You're doing more than anyone to keep the quality of this article up to the best encyclopedic standards of confirmation and verification. You're a really, really good editor.

I do wonder if it makes the most sense to put casting announcements under "Production." In industry parlance "Production" is the process of the actual shooting and its related support services (catering, unit publicity, tutors for child actors, etc.) "Casting" is a whole separate process, even if it might continue to take place a day or two after filming begins. Thank you, you're doing some nice work as well. Regarding your comment though I've seen other article that have there own casting sections but I'm not in agreement with them. Basically because casting is not something that happens onto itself, meaning its a part of the larger film production and can occur during any of the first four stages. This usually occurs in pre-production, but last minute casting does happen after shooting has begun (as is the case here), actors are also sometimes attached to films while still in development (see X-Men (film series)#Deadpool for example) or added in post production during re-shoots. In the film articles I've been editing I've tried to maintain a chronological order to the production process and each stage as they occur.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 17:01, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

I do not have any of the books, either. I've used keywords to find useful passages in Google Books Search and Google Scholar Search. If you have an Amazon.com account, you can search "matrix" in the Books department and click on the ones that have the "Look Inside" feature, which means you can search for a character's name.
