Miscategorization, again

Please do not tag any "Bengali *" category with the "WP India" tag. For example, Imdadul Haque Milon is a Bangladeshi writer, NOT an Indian writer. So is Humayun Ahmed. Please fix your bot. Thanks. --Ragib (talk) 15:35, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

For a (partial) list of article where the categorization was incorrect, please refer to my Contribution log. In general, don't use any "Bengali *" category for tagging with "WP India" tags. Thanks. --Ragib (talk) 15:49, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Please see User:TinucherianBot/Autotagg > Notices/Issues. My problem is that I am using a high level category of Category:Indian people by occupation recursively with the bot and it is not possible to avoid a particular categroy alone. What do you think of recatergorization of Category:Bengali writers to Category:Bengali writers in India and Category:Bengali writers in Bangaladesh ? Please dont take any offence in this suggestion. I am suggesting to avoid wrong categorization. Once I complete this task , i will raise this at WP:INDIA and WP:BANG -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 15:52, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
This is very tricky, as some people (e.g. who were born and died before either of these countries came into existence) cannot be categorized as such. In general, the best way would be to separate language/ethnic categorization from nationality based categorization. For example, Bengali writers should be a subcategory of Category:Bengali people by occupation and Category:Writers by language, Category:Bengali language, and nothing else. Each individual writer, if Bangladeshi, can also have the category Category:Bangladeshi writers etc. This will solve any problems like above. --Ragib (talk) 16:01, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
I am OK with the suggestion. But we need to have a Conesus before we do that , otherwise many may protest. -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 17:09, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Looking at your comment above, "Category:Indian people by occupation " should never be a supercategory of "Bengali people" or "Bengali writers". Not all Bengali writers are from India nor from Bangladesh. So, it will be a fallacy to include that as a super cat. Also, "Bengali writers in India" is redundant ... Bengali writers who are from India should already be covered under "Category:Indian writers". Same goes for Bangladeshi writers. --Ragib (talk) 17:14, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Would you PLEASE stop running your bot for a moment, and fix it? No offense please, but I am getting tired of fixing the incorrect tagging done by your bot. I have already mentioned above that you cannot tag all "Bengali x" articles as WP India. I am quite baffled at several other taggings:

  • Panna Kaiser a Bangladesh politician, how on earth does it fall under WP India?

Please stop your bot immediately before these are sorted out, otherwise, I'll block the bot for the time being, and report it to ANB. Please note that I mean no offense or any hard feelings, just that your bot is making a huge mess rather than solving things. Thanks. --Ragib (talk) 19:59, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

And even more mistagging by your bot. Would you please stop your bot for some time, and fix it? --Ragib (talk) 20:43, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

I assume you are running an unsupervised bot. I have blocked it for 15 minutes just to get your attention. Please fix it ASAP. --Ragib (talk) 20:50, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Well, the bot is still running unsupervised. I'm blocking it for now till you can stop it and examine the issues. Thanks. --Ragib (talk) 21:08, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Re:Thank you

You are very welcome! Pleasure is mine. We need more editors to join Indian automation department and contribute. Please take a note of Ragib's comments above. We have to figure out a way to stop the bot from tagging un-related articles. I was thinking of asking Kingboyk for ideas for this. May be the the plugin can check for some keywords on the main-article (example: India) before tagging. This still will not be 100% correct. We need to look for more ideas before letting your bot run again. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 01:42, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

I now think it will be unfair to blame the bot here solely ... :), the categories are all messed up. For example, "Bengali poets", a linguistic and ethnic category, should not be a subcategory of "Indian poets" or "Bangladeshi poets". Rather, a Bengali poet from Bangladesh should fall under both

Cat:Bangladeshi poet (nationality cat), and under Bengali poet. The Bengali poet's parent cat should only be Bengali people by occupation, and poets by ethnicity . The problems here are caused by this bot tagging all subcategories of Cat:India .... evidently, "Bengali x" should not be a subcat of Cat:India. I suggest fixing the category tree first before running the bot again. --Ragib (talk) 02:32, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Rajib, I have narrowed down many levels down of Category:India to avoid such conflicts See User:TinucherianBot/Autotagg . ( the feeds for AWB is a single category ( recursive) but it cant exclude a sub category. But these Bengali categories are the only one that is making the problem. Believe me this is just 0.01 % of error only. Can you help to fix the cats please . -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 02:47, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

automated Wikiproject tagging

You should not add WP:INDIA templates to articles already tagged for the Hinduism Wikiproject. Generally, automated Wikiproject tagging based on article categories is a very bad idea. It essentially defeats the entire point of Wikiproject tags, making them redundant with categorization. Do you have any sort of consensus or approval for the tasks your bot does? --dab (𒁳) 07:00, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

74.13

Did he do something wrong? The IP who starts 74.13 has actually been around DYK for quite some time, usually contributing to the suggestions page but occasionally on the update page as well. As long as you don't see anything untoward going on, there's probably no reason to be concerned. Gatoclass (talk) 07:03, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Okay, I had a look and he's just been trying to clear the hook section for the next update. He's not a vandal, he's usually a helpful guy. We actually had a discussion about whether IP's should be allowed to edit the next update page or not and though I was opposed to it the consensus was to allow it as 74.13 sometimes likes to help out there. Statustop template: alternate updating method

You are receiving this message because User talk:TinucherianBot is using the Statustop template.

SoxBot V has been taken offline indefinitely, therefore {{Statustop}} now uses a semi-manual updating method taking the status from Special:Mypage/Status. You can use the Qui monobook script written by TheDJ to update this page at the click of a button.

Certain parameters are no longer used, so you may wish to check the documentation of the Statustop template to ensure you are using it properly. Please feel free to drop by my talk page with any questions or concerns or to report problems with the template. Happy editing, xenocidic ( talk ¿ listen ) 14:02, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

WP:HAU

Hello yet again. I regretfully inform you that the bot we were using to update the user status at Wikipedia:Highly Active Users, SoxBot V, was blocked for its constant updating. With this bot out of operation, a patch is in the works. Until that patch is reviewed and accepted by the developers, some options have been presented to use as workarounds: 1) Qui monobook (not available in Internet Explorer); 2) User:Hersfold/StatusTemplate; 3) Manually updating User:StatusBot/Status/USERNAME; or 4) Not worry about it and wait for the patch to go through, which hopefully won't take long. If you have another method, you can use that, too. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Useight (talk) 22:33, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Suggestions

Category list

  • Create a category list: Recursively traverse through a parent category (For example: Category:Kerala) using AWB. From the list, filter out everything except categories (you can do this with List menu - Filter). Save the categories into a text file with wiki markup. Let each workgroup check this category list and exclude the incorrect categories (they will simply remove them).
  • Now that you have a Wikiproject-reviewed good category list, use the text file option on AWB, to load the categories. Select all the articles (right click, select all), then right click again, then "Add selected to list..." --> "From Category". This will load all the articles from the selected categories
  • Covert to talk pages and start tagging.

This way we only tag the categories that WikiProject has reviewed...a much safer route. It will be helpful for the WikiProject to get a list of categories before the run. The WikiProject can keep adding new categories to the list from then on. The disadvantage with this route is that category listing might have changed and the listing may not be up-to-date. It needs to be periodically generated.

I made a related feature request that will make the category list-making easier. See Wikipedia_talk:AutoWikiBrowser/Feature_requests#Filters_before_running_the_list_maker. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 12:07, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Using other bots

I am adding this for comparison. User:WatchlistBot did this differently. The bot-owner did all the above, plus the bot would traverse the the categories in the WikiProject-reviewed category listing recursively, each time checking if the talk page of the category has the WikiProject banner before traversing (to the next level). The bot also maintained a list of categories to exclude. Unfortunately the bot-owner is on a wikibreak. Blnyugen mentioned about SatyrBot on WT:IN. I have not tried that though.

Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 11:53, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Try putting the categories under WP:INAUTO pages. This way other bots can share the workload of TinuBot. Lost and myself did this some time back. See Wikipedia:INAUTO#Current_tasks. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 11:59, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Warnings and WP:AIV

The general rule of thumb is that a user should have received a final warning before they get reported to AIV. This usually means a level 4 warning such as {{uw-vandalism4}}, but it may include any warning that mentioned the possibility of a block if the conduct continues. In both the reports you made today, not only had they not gotten a final warning, but neither had vandalized after receiving their first warning. That's why I deleted the reports. —C.Fred (talk) 05:07, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

hi

Hi there, I have recently started editing on wikipedia and was working upon the article Prime Minister of India. I find you are quiet active on wiki India project, therefore thought would drop this query to you. I have made some useful contribution to the article but I find it beyond my limits to improve it further. I found that there is a place to to suggest articles for collaborative work but am unable to determine the way as to how it is done. I find that the topic is quiet important and am in fact quiet taken aback to find that not much has been done on it. Therefore I thought I would drop you a word regarding the same. It would be really nice if you could help me out by either placing the request to nominate the article for collaborative work or tell me how it is done. Thanks in advance. Hi TC! I am sure that you are by now over worked and tired running the bot. Good work. I had in the past bumped into articles with the word Tamil leading to a dab page. The problem is these mostly should be linked to Tamil language or to Tamil people. Is it possible (sorry if it is not) to make a bot to make a list of such pages leading to the dab page which can be manually (hard work here!!) sorted to where it should link to. Let me know if that is possible. Cheers Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 07:26, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

First of all are you acquainted with the use of the stabdard infobox and entering coordinates? What I have been doing for weeks is adding infoboxes/maps to articles in the categories of Category:Cities by country. What we need is to ensure that most articles have this and references if possible and then content can be build upon what we have. By copying and pasting the infobox, each article can be edited within about 30 seconds,. First of my agenda is to finish adding infoboxes to Ethiopia in existing articles. Also I have a backlog of about 25,000 articles on french communes which require copy and pasting the infoboxes from french wikipedia into the english wiki articles. Any wizardry you can do with AWB or whatever would be much appreciated. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000?14:58, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Just a friendly reminder for you to assess articles for their workgroups too. :) Ncmvocalist (talk) 15:39, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Hey Ncm, I was thinking of talking to you regarding this. I seriously believe we should leave the workgroup importance parameters to the groups themselves. The reason is that the general assessers can only mark the importance of the article on a India perspective. But importance of the article for the workgroup can only be judged by the workgroup members - Simple reason , I can say Bengal author x is importance of Low / Mid in India perspective , but for the workgroup Bengal , the article _MAY_BE_ of Top/High importance.... -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 15:49, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Oh. We do need to identify articles within a workgroup's scope (by completing workgroup=yes in the banner) - but the importance parameters for a workgroup can be omitted for those reasons you've mentioned. I'm not sure if that is clear - let me know if you need clarification. Ncmvocalist (talk) 16:02, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
You mean to say to add a relavent workgroup ( if needed and not added already) ? Then itz ok. I understand. Thanks.. Btw you may want to see this : User:TinucherianBot#Recurrent_Tasks_of_Auto_Tagging. I am providing the complete relavent category list to the workgroups one by one (on their project talk pages) , making them approve the good cats, making a list of this, and my bot find articles , will add the relavent workgroup parameters( if needed) to the articles , on a regular basis (current intention is once/month). I have completed the process for Kerala, Tamil Nadu , Protected Areas for now. -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 16:11, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
If the user making the assessment can also judge the importance of the article for a workgroup, that can be done at the same time. I tried to do the assessment for many workgroups during assessing for WP India. However, if the user is not sure about the importance, s/he can leave that parameter blank. --Dwaipayan (talk) 17:06, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
I agree.. Just was saying it should NOT be mandatory for the assessment drive -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 17:57, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Yep - Dwaipayanc has got it. The mandatory part is adding relevant workgroups and removing non-relevant ones - I'm not fussed about assessing importance for these workgroups because we've done the minimum step - given them the articles that fall within their scope. It's really up to those workgroups to assess its importance to them, and quite frequently, it differs from the overall India WikiProject's importance scale. Some of the workgroups have made their importance scale clear, so there's no harm in being bold, but it does get confusing sometimes so it can be left blank - the importance part for workgroups is not mandatory in that sense. By order of the coordinators, for your good work tagging and assessing India articles in Tag & Assess 2008, I hereby award you this WikiProject India Service Award. --Ncmvocalist (talk) 15:41, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Re: CFD Category:National parks in Kerala

Normally the national parks are kept in that category. So that is the category that should be retained. National parks has a specific meaning and category structure. Adding sanctuaries to it would appear to be the wrong direction to go in. Those should be in a category under Category:Protected areas. 22:30, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

My RFB

Thank you for your comments in my RFB. Since it was only at 64%, it was a shoo-in to be unsuccessful, so I withdrew. I didn't want it to run until its scheduled close time because my intent in standing for RFB was to help the bureaucrats with their workload, not give them one more RfX to close. Through the course of my RFB, I received some very valuable feedback, some of it was contradictary, but other points were well agreed upon. I have ceased my admin coaching for now to give me time to revamp my method. I don't want to give up coaching completely, but I'm going to find a different angle from which to approach it. As for my RFA Standards, I am going to do some deep intraspection. I wrote those standards six months ago and I will slowly retool them. This will take some time for me to really dig down and express what I want in an admin candidate. If, after some serious time of deep thought, I don't find anything to change in them, I'll leave them the way they are. I'm not going to change them just because of some community disagreement as to what they should be. Will I stand for RFB again in the future? I don't know. Perhaps some time down the road, when my tenure as an administrator is greater than one year, if there is a pressing need for more active bureaucrats, maybe. If there no pressing need, then maybe not. Useight (talk) 03:07, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

distributor/editor

Hi Tinu, I have started working on newsletter and have prepared the first cut of it here. I would like you to perform the distributor/editor role on it. This is my first time on such work :-) Feel free to edit and add/remove anything you feel. I have also asked User:Mspraveen to work as lead editor on this. Together we can publish this using your new bot. --gppande «talk» 08:28, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Inform Ncmvocalist also. He might be also interested. -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 09:18, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Mspraveen and GaneshK have left some remarks/done changes. Today I have done the final changes. Please review and feel free to improve. So how to distribute using the bot? How many people will get this? When can we run the bot? --gppande «talk» 08:24, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Seems fine. Do you want to include the following to newsletter this time or next issue ?

1) User:Ganeshbot automatically updating Watchlist articles for the main project and the workgroups .. Ganeshbot has created watchlists for each of the workgroups. This allows for watching articles over smaller subset of data/area of interest. They can be accessed at the /Articles page. Examples: WikiProject Karnataka/Articles, WikiProject Protected areas of India/Articles and WikiProject Chennai/Articles.

2) Me collecting categories from workgroups and User:TinucherianBot automatically Autotaggs for them ( See User:TinucherianBot#Recurrent_Tasks_of_Auto_Tagging ) once every month or on request.

Once you are done with the newsletter , copy it from your Sandbox to Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Outreach/Newsletter/June 2008 . I have created a new page Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Outreach/Full Content from Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Members , removing those your prefer Link only content or Opt out for No delivery . We will send the newsletter to all Members in Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Outreach/Full Content page. ( Dont worry about delivery... I can do it .. Just let me know when done ....) -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 09:42, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

I have included Ganeshbot's info. Praveen has asked some more time so we will take status on Monday and decide then onwards for publishing. --gppande «talk» 11:57, 13 June 2008 (UTC)
I am a member of this. I had added my name yesterday only. :-)

Hello Tinucherian, a link only is a link only newsletter, is it? Maybe its a stupid question, but I was wondering that link would mean that I get the newsletter in my talk page with the show/hide feature. Isn't it that way how its going to work? :D Mspraveen (talk) 06:35, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Wiki Indian Project Members help out pls

There is a registered book Brhmaand Pujan written in 1999 from a well known writer of India Naresh Sonee. Notability issue could be sorted/verified out from this site-

http://brhmaandpujan-news-reviews.tripod.com/ . Acquainting you here, Wikibin engine had captured these two sites from Wikipedia. They are as
http://wikibin.org/articles/brhmaand-pujan.html
http://wikibin.org/articles/naresh-sonee.html
However one can come across infinite hits on search engines about Naresh Sonee or Brhmaand Pujan

Your good selves can go through the same and verifiy for assertments. The author has introduced a self based unique logical philosophy one of it's kind. Presently, how can I re put some information again on wikipedia. As time & again it get deleted on bias by a certain community in wiki ? Can you put my case/cause across wikiIndian portal members or Chairman of wikipedia? Or if possible can you put the same pages again by editing them as required picking up from wikibin promoting the sames. Regard --Dralansun (talk) 10:48, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Once I created this note, I saw you are already working on this...Are you gng to make the full workgroup pages or dummy pages with the stats ?? -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 10:34, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

I started those workgroups prior to your post. It's a good thing that you proposed. I was going to make them dummy pages with stats. Planning to add {{WPIndia Navigation|small=yes}} to them. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 10:39, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Awesome...Thanks ! We think alike and are in sync :D ! Let us work together on this . You can create the {{WP India}} Parameters and the categories for all the states missing. I will create the full workgroup pages like the already existing ones. Once we are done, we may start a campaign among the WP:IND members to volunteer workgroups of their interest . Thoughts ?? -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 10:43, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
My thoughts exactly: I read somewhere, "Build it...they will come." :) Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 10:49, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Little context in Category:Wikiproject tagging bots

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Wikiproject tagging bots, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Wikiproject tagging bots is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Wikiproject tagging bots, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Living Stream Ministry

Hi Tinucherian,

I am reporting the user:Angrygirl to you now after I have exhausted all my futile actions, as you are one of the main co-ordinators on the "Wikiproject Christianity". This user is inserting his/her false hostility into the article, Living Stream Ministry. I had previosuy requested another "Admin", user:GRBerry to protect the article. He blocked the article from editing for 7 days, hoping that some mutual agreement would result in between. Nothing happened, there is no communication from the other side! I put some of the facts in the article's discussion page to support my reverting of his/her edits, and also left a comment on her/his user's talk page regarding that. If you review the history of the events, on user:Angrygirl's page, article's talk page, Mr. GRBerry's talk page, and my talk page, you can understand the situation better and in detail. Please do something! Thanks.

Yours faithfully,

Your bot's gone crazy

Your TinucherianBot has gone crazy marking every telecom page as a computing project page. Please turn it off. — Dgtsyb (talk) 11:30, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Can you give an example ? It uses computer or computing/computer related articles specified here . I have stopped the bot for now till investigation -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 11:33, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Examples:
Also it has been tagging every computer networking article as a computing article, which isn't really appropriate either. — Dgtsyb (talk) 11:44, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Please see the goals and scope of WP:COMPUTING Project and this discussion. Computer networking project is a descendent of the main project of Computer / Computing ....Your said articles are related to Computer networks and definitely falls under WP:COMPUTING -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 11:48, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
I looked at it, and, no, these are Telecommunications project articles. These are primarily signalling protocols that telephone switches use to pass control between each other. They are not computer networking articles. — Dgtsyb (talk) 11:55, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
For example if you see SIGTRAN , see the cat Category:Computer network stubs and the stub msg "This computer network-related article is a stub. You can help Wikipedia by expanding it " . Thatz why the bot is tagging the article -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 12:00, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
M3UA and SIGTRAN might be borderline, but the rest on the list above are Signaling System 7 related protocols that are definitely not computer-networking. Why are they being tagged? — Dgtsyb (talk) 12:04, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
For example, Circuit switching. Why is this being tagged? — Dgtsyb (talk) 12:08, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
As I said earlier, the Bot is doing based on computer related categories. The other articles comes under Category:Application layer protocols or Category:Physical layer protocols which is computer related ..Should you wish so, you may remove inappropriate categories from the articles -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 12:10, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Yes, and the ITU-T all but invented OSI. Computer Networking protocols fit into the OSI model, but that does not mean that all protocols that fit into the OSI model are computer networking protocols. For example, Signaling System 7 maps onto the OSI model per ITU-T Recommendation Q.1400], but it is not a computer networking protocol. Just because a voice circuit is at the Physical Layer of the OSI model, does not make it a computer networking concept. — Dgtsyb (talk) 12:16, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for invitation... Tell me the work i can help u if i know ... Naveenpf (talk) 08:12, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Dalit section needs a LOT of changes

the dalit section of wikiproject india is incredibly inaccurate. there are a lot of misconceptions. i really want to be incharge of the dalit section because my great great gradfather was in some ways a dalit. there are a lot of inaccuracies in the article. i have added a couple of changes in the article, still a lot more changes need to be made. also i dont feel that majority of the references were correct (there are inaccurate articles written by journalists and others who have no idea about indians).

even the caste system of india section was not good. for some reason people want to demonize indians yet no one would ever talk about caste system in ancient egypt and how badly the slaves were treated, or how badly the peasants were treated in english kingdoms etc. anyway i understand that the section deals with indians only so people would not refer to others but still.

i would really want to be in charge of the dalit section of wikiproject india i feel that i can give a better understanding to foreigners about dalits. the article needs a lot of changes. could you give me a chance at moderating the dalit section of wikiproject indian?? thanks

pls let me know my email address is 100hahaha@gmail.com Arjuna316 (talk) 21:03, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Creating geo lists

Hi I've made an intital suggestion at the GEOBOT talk page in that it would be an excellent idea to generate a full lists of places in a tabled list. Once this is accomplished we can work through what articles could be started in their own right if there is enough info avilabale. I see it as a solid comprehensive base to build geo content on if we have a full world list organized like this. See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Geography/Bot#Creating lists. I think the reason your bot is tagging those pages is that the category "Cryptographic protocols" is listed at User:TinucherianBot/Autotagg/WPCOMP.

Also see the message I left for you at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Computing.

Replied at the project page Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Computing -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 15:36, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
Dear frnd , thanks for bringing your concern to your attention....Please understand these are done in in good faith . We do understand All cryptography is not computer /computing . Only Category:Cryptographic protocols are tagged which falls under the scope of this project. With primary objective of wikiprojects is to improve articles in their scope , why is this serious objections? It is understandable if articles are wrongly tagged that doesnt fall under the scope of the project. We have taken note of your concern ..... Please understand that with this tagging effort , we have tagged around 8000 newer articles that didn't even have a talk page , let alone the other wikiproject tagging. This reveals the potential of this project. Please read the section on the discussion on the scope and goals of this project -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 15:50, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
See my response and explanation at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Computing#descendant tagging.
--David Göthberg (talk) 16:54, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
I have now unblocked TinucherianBot, since you have now answered my questions at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Computing#descendant tagging and agreed to not continue the tagging of "descendant WikiProjects" talk pages, until a new consensus has been reached.

Re: WP:COMPUTING Invitation

Thank you very much! I don't even know how I over looked that! tabor-drop me a line 16:26, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Re:WP:COMPUTING Invite

Tinu, Thanks for the invite....but I will not be able participate. India project takes up all the time I spend here..:) Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 03:23, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Chaunk

Hello, thank you for tagging those food articles.

Could you add the Malayalam name (with Malayalam script) for Chaunk under "Names in various languages," and also check the names in other South Indian languages? Many thanks, Badagnani (talk) 07:36, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Thank you... for the above article, I am not aware of the Malayalam name , but I will do a research and update it .. Thanks -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 13:55, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

My guess is, as with my previous interactions with Indian Wikipedians, that you are male, and thus are exiled from the kitchen and don't know these terms. It's funny how each society and culture is actually not one but two! Here in America, men mostly know barbecuing, and women know the rest of the cooking techniques. Badagnani (talk) 07:00, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Good guess...I just love good food, But I shud confess I am a very bad cook when compared to my wife  :) -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 07:02, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

My edits.

Thank you for the caution, though I am not sure yet which are the offending edits. I will find them out. I am slow being new to the computer. A quick look informs me that you are not happy with the Ved Prakash reference and the Tapasyananda quote. But both are scholars and experts on the St. Thomas legend. Ved Prakash attends seminars and gives papers on Indian history. Their conclusions are authoritative. Certainly more so than Medleycott whose fictionalized history is not neutral but extensively quoted in the article. I sought to give an alternative point of view. You may also consider that the St. Thomas legend as it is known in Chennai, is deeply offensive to Hindus in that it makes Hindus the murderous villains of the story. Because you ignore it in the article does not make it go away. And where is neutrality here? The charge can legitimately be countered. I agree that a direct quote from Tapasyananda is inappropriate. But I request that you consider allowing their book references to stand so that they are listed for future study. Having a complete bibliography gives authority and prestige to the article, and also proves your neutrality. If there are more edits in doubt, please let me know by email at <venavarcas@gmail.com>. I am more likely to check the email than the article's talk or history. Thanks. Vena Varcas (talk) 12:24, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Re:WP:1.0 Categories

1. Where can I find the Kingboy plugin for User:Kingboyk/Wikipedia_Assessments_-_Category_creation_plugin ??

Kingboyk plugin is not available for download. Till now, I had been creating assessment categories using the Generate categories page. Only admins can use that feature since the page is protected. I took Kingboyk's code and updated it as a new plug-in. It will generate all the categories needed. I have not yet released the plug-in. I will release after some more testing.

2. Once the categories are done , do I need to dummy page like Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team/Bihar articles by quality , Because without that even though I ran Bihar here , it was not doing so ... -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 09:21, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

The manual run is not working. I have alerted Oleg about it. Bihar did complete in the nightly run. You don't have to add a dummy page. Once the categories are created, the "by quality" and "by importance" categories will need to be placed under Category:Wikipedia 1.0 assessments. The bot will take over from that point.

Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 16:33, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

OK thanks. i tried Generate categories page and saw it was protected. Ya. Manual run had problems... Let us wait for the normal run. -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 17:02, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
I have added download links to page. Can you try creating categories for the Union Territories? You can use the sample XML file and use File - Open Settings. Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 19:13, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
Completed That was gr8.... I completed the rest of the categories for the union territories -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 12:56, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Are the new workgroups supported by User:Kingbotk/Plugin. If yes how can i download it or update the AWB. Amartyabag TALK2ME 03:40, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Nope.... Not yet... I have placed a request for the same here -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 12:45, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject India assessment run

I notice that Category:Unassessed-Class India articles now has over 12,000 pages in it (!), a substantial number of which have been assessed by other projects. As User:Bot0612 is sitting idle, I was wondering whether another assessment run would be a good idea to help clear the backlog (even if only slightly) and leave the way clear for human assessors. It would do exactly the same thing as last time (the process has not changed). RichardΩ612 Ɣ ɸ 16:36, June 22, 2008 (UTC)

Hold on... there is an assessment drive that is gng on in the project... Unassessed articles are assigned to individuals for manual tagging ( and adding workgroups also ). Hence we will do this excersie once this is over. Anyways thanks a lot . I will get back to u soon-- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 17:23, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
No problem, just drop me a line when you want me to start. RichardΩ612 Ɣ ɸ 17:34, June 22, 2008 (UTC)

How can u tag the new workgroups using AWB?

Hi! you are doing excellent jobs. i have seen that u r tagging the new workgroups using AWB. Can u tell me how u r doing this. Amartyabag TALK2ME 01:17, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for you kind works.

This is how to tag for workgroups using AWB...
1) Download AWB from Wikipedia:AWB#.282.29_Download . You need to get AWB approval to use this. You can do this here . If approved, your name will be added to the CheckPage . Await for the approval before using AWB.
2) Extract it to a folder.
3) Kingbotk/Plugin that comes with AWB is very useful for adding {{WP India}} and its workgroups. Move the plugin .dll file to AWB folder . Start AutoWikiBrowser.exe and File (Top selection menu) > Log in . Give your wikipedia Login username and passwd .
4) Select from AWB , Plugins (Top selection menu) > Load Plugins > Kingbotk AWB Plugin.dll
5) Now you get Kingbotk AWB Plugin at Plugins Tab, select "India Plugin"
6) Now Select "Make from Category" then enter a category name
7) Click "Make list", let the list load up.
8) Do " Remove dupes" and "Filter out non main space "
9) "Convert to talk pages "
10) If you want to tag for supported workgroups in Kingbotk AWB Plugin , you may find it at the "India" Tab at bottom section( once Kingbotk AWB Plugin is loaded) . Checking the appropriate checkbox for the workgroup will automatically add the workgroup parameters in {{WP India}} , if not already present ( Note : Be careful here not to select the wrong workgroup also).
11) Dont forget to give appropriate Edit summary in the "Start" Tab.
12) Unselect "Non existentpages"
13) Go to the Plugin Tab ( bottom) and click "Start the Process".
14) Click "Save" if u r ok with the changes else click 'Ignore'.
15) If the workgroup is not supported , Dont select any of the checkboxes , Start the process, add the new workgroup parameters (_manually_) in the Edit Box on the bottom section right. and then save

Have fun. Let me know if you have any doubts -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 04:48, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

This is for adding the {{WP India}} or the wg paramaters. You can use this to do the assessments also very easily by checking the "Assess" in the Plugin tab ... -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 04:50, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, i cannot find the option u said in step 9, moreover if the page is already tagged, how can i add additional parameters. Amartyabag TALK2ME 05:00, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
Once you have made the list from the category, right click the list and you will find "Filter out non main space " and "Convert to talk pages " . click both of them. This is to make sure you are tagging only main space article talk pages.

Additional parameters ? Do did notice a "India" tab (once you have loaded the kingboyk plugin and selected the india plugin...) Within "india" tab , you see India1 and India2 ? For adding "|kerala=yes|kerala-importance=" , you need to select "Kerala" in "India1" sub tab. While Tagging for workgroups, PLEASE MAKE SURE that you have made a list from the appropriate category only ( say like Category:Kerala. DONT use recursive category listing ( it may be dangeorus if you are not very very very careful ) .. If you dont select any of the workgroup option , the plugin will only add {{WP India|class=|importance=}} (if not already present) and you need to save the page...Btw Read also User:Kingbotk/Plugin/User_guide before using kingboyk plugin -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 05:14, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Seeing your contribs, I hope it helped...The only thing to note is to be very careful in selecting categories... DONT list from categories recurisively .. You wont expect Category:World War II as a subcategory inside deep Category:India when tagging for {{WP India}} right ? but I have seen that ... -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 10:41, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, now i am able to use the AWB to tag. Amartyabag TALK2ME 00:53, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
You r welcome.. Did you figure out how to do assessments very easily also with AWB +Kingboyk Plugin ??
Thanks for your help, today i have done the initial tagging of Nagaland and Puducherry as well as ran the WP 1.0 bot. Amartyabag TALK2ME 10:42, 26 June 2008 (UTC)
I saw that.. Good work... btw for tagging for supported workgroups and simple india tagging you can create a bot account , file an BRFA ( as Ganesh told) and do.. It will make your hands free without any need of saving each article.... -- TinuCherian (Wanna Talk?) - 10:47, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the barnstar. It would have not been possible without your help and inspiration. Will soon create a bot account. But the main problem with it that i have very basic programming knowledge in VB, oracle, Blue J and C++. I don't have the required codes for the process.Amartyabag TALK2ME 15:49, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
