  • A new tool is available to help determine if a given IP is an open proxy/VPN/webhost/compromised host.

  Arbitration

  • The Arbitration Committee announced two new OTRS queues. Both are meant solely for cases involving private information; other cases will continue to be handled at the appropriate venues (e.g., WP:COIN or WP:SPI).
    • paid-en-wp wikipedia.org has been set up to receive private evidence related to abusive paid editing.
    • checkuser-en-wp wikipedia.org has been set up to receive private requests for CheckUser. For instance, requests for IP block exemption for anonymous proxy editing should now be sent to this address instead of the functionaries-en list.

Old AE ban in Cirt v. Tlroche

Hi there. You may or may not remember me. On 16 December 2016 you sanctioned me in Sagecandor v. Tlroche as follows: "SashiRolls is indefinitely prohibited from commenting on AE requests to which they are not a party. " source

As you are no doubt aware, User:Sagecandor was blocked as a sockpuppet of User:Cirt, which explains their aversion to transparency. Would you be willing to reverse your prohibition? I would not mind having the right to say something nice about Atsme. I would also think that since I was right back in 2016, perhaps I could be restored first-class citizenship and the privilege of fresh starting should I so desire, having no further outstanding restrictions on my editing. (I'm not sure I will exercise this privilege, I don't mind being transparent about my past and present.) Best, SashiRolls t · c 19:02, 24 February 2019 (UTC)

You were sanctioned for the manner in which you expressed these concerns, not the concerns themselves. That the concerns turned out to be well-founded is irrelevant to the sanction. T. Canens (talk) 15:38, 25 February 2019 (UTC)
OK, taking the paragraph above, cited in teal above, what could be better? That explanation will help me explain to others why you think that this penalty should indeed continue beyond 750 days. Again, it would be helpful if you could explain why this sanction was useful (in the end it did allow Cirt to continue to sock for another year, which I suppose some would argue was a good thing). More to the point though, I think it would be helpful to explain why, in your view, it continues to be useful. If showing it currently useful proves impossible (as I suspect it will), the simplest and best path would be to remove the sanction and restore my first-class citizenship. I am sorry that I bothered the AE folks when I noticed that Sagecandor/Cirt's diff #4 and #5 about Tlroche "forging a signature" were utter fabulations. I provided further evidence at that time that there was very good reason to take Cirt's prosecutions with a pillar of salt.
Unilaterally lifting this ban does not require you to admit making any mistakes. Why do you think I should "confess", instead? SashiRolls t · c 17:35, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
Also, came across the diff where Sagecandor was called out for calling me a "Russian propaganada user" on a noticeboard on the 3rd of December, less than 2 workweeks before you banned me for saying something about it at AE. This sanction was imposed for injecting unrelated matters into an AE thread about someone else's conduct, and the restriction did not prevent you from bringing up your issues with Sagecandor/Cirt in appropriate venues, including AE to the extent the issues fall within a DS topic area. The proper way to "say something about it at AE" was to file a new AE request. Since I'm not seeing any indication that the sanction is now unnecessary or that similar misconduct will not recur, I'm not going to lift it. T. Canens (talk) 03:25, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

Sashi asked me to comment here, since I commented at the WP:AE where s/he got their sanction. Sure. I think s/he deserves another chance. If they start getting obsessive again at WP:AE then the ban can be easily restored. To Sashi though - WHY do you actually WANT to comment at AE? It's different if you're being dragged there and such, but if you're staying out of trouble, it might be a good idea to not go looking for it either. Just as a practical matter. Probably should take my own advice sometimes.Volunteer Marek (talk) 06:40, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

I don't see any particular reason this sanction needs to stay in effect. AE seems to be in a forgiving mood lately, why not try to concisely appeal there? Mr Ernie (talk) 10:47, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

SPI-Archive

Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/123Aristotle had 4 cases, 3 closed & 1 open. I used SPI-Archive. Since it obviously inspects the cases to remove the {{SPI case status|close}} tags, I thought it would only archive the closed cases. I was wrong :-(
