S Philbrick(Talk) Yes, that was a fun but very deep rabbit hole. Brought back lots of (different types of) memories about that era. Odd that the NYT article was actually about Covid-19's impact on individuals, focusing on DLR: Her hip surgery has been delayed because of it, which she understands, but her flesh is deteriorating in the meantime. How the Times chose her wasn't clear to me. If you have time to spare, how does one red line an item if the option doesn't immediately appear? For example, if there's an alternative with an existing page. E.g., place name in different parts of the world, or persons with same names. Thanks!--Tarkiwi25 (talk) 00:28, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

I am trying to reclaim* my Sandbox to start new pages and I've been doing that by trying to find instructions within Wikipedia's help pages. I wondered about "Example." In future I will substitute Tarkiwi25 for Example.
What you've created is in my own User Talk:Sandbox (I'm still learning syntax and nomenclature for all the infrastructure).
Should I be trying to start Special:Mypage/Dorothy McNeil (which I got from a drop-down menu on your redirected page) instead of in my own Sandbox? I haven't worked out the best option for transferring a draft to public space.
- My Sandbox wasn't accessible when a previous draft got transferred out, with a message that links would get lost if ..... - I saw your comment at Augend's talk page. I see you currently have two pages in your userspace which cover the same thing User:Tarkiwi25/Dorothy McNeil and User:Tarkiwi25/Draft of article. You are the only author of content on these pages, the only other edit being from Augend to move the Draft of article page to your userspace therefore you don't have to really worry about ensuring the contribution of others is preserved. To avoid confusing yourself, you probably want to choose one to work on, which seems to be the "Draft of article" page as it's more developed. Assuming there are no copyright violations or other problems with the Dorothy McNeil page, you could simply blank the page and leave it be. However you could also place {{db-u1}} on it to request deletion. Note that once it's deleted it's more work to get it back, so make sure there is nothing there you haven't copied to the other page. Brent Leggs edit
In connection with this article, I have come across a number of sites which give his name as Demond "Brent" Leggs. See [1], [2]. @Ipigott (talk) Interesting stuff. I think you're right about Demond being a first name, but quotation marks around Brent didn't show up in the citations I worked with.
- Now, important question. Radaris.com (https://radaris.com/p/Demond/Leggs/) is one of those sources you sent me to, or else one that came up when I put Leggs' name into the browser again. Not sure how reliable/acceptable it is considered to be. Nut I looked up Paducah for its county (and added Leggs to its notables list), which is McCracken County. Again, not sure how reliable/acceptable and whether you sent me to this, but https://sortedbyname.com/letter_l/l133984.html has the following: "LEGGS, DEMOND BRENT was born 22 November 1972 to THELMA G. SHELTON (possibly her maiden name) in McCracken County, Kentucky, United States of America." Lower on the page is what seems to be a reference to a relative's social media page that I couldn't follow a link to: "James Leggs Paducah, KY 69 Thelma Leggs Paducah, KY 62." Although what year that was written isn't clear (yet), I think this is Brent Leggs' parents. From the sortedbyname page there are too many James Leggs to figure out which one is his father, but same source provides following: LEGGS, JAYME LYNN was born 6 May 1977 to THELMA G. SHELTON (possibly her maiden name) in McCracken County, Kentucky, United States of America.
- Erm, did I do things in a proper fashion to create the link between the notable people list and the Brent Leggs page? I'd think so. But what about a List of people from? There isn't one from Paducah per se, but there is one from KY generally. So should I go into that page and use the standard editing process? - I agree the birth name should be Demond Brent Legs (without the quotes). I don't think the names of his parents are as important as his own name and place and date of birth, but you can of course include them if you think it's important. You might also consider contacting Leggs himself by email to ask whether he has any objections to the inclusion of this information -- or indeed anything else in the article. You might also ask whether he can provide a photograph with a suitable Creative Commons license, or maybe upload it on Commons himself. I see there is a Category:People from McCracken County, Kentucky which you could add. I already included him among notable people on the Paducah article. --Ipigott (talk) 09:02, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
@Ipigott (talk) I added the McCracken County category, the name change, and the birth date. I tried to change the category from born in 1970s to born in 1972 but had no joy of it. Leggs has a lovely photo of himself on his FB page, apparently a relatively new one. But it's up to him, or someone else, to deal with that. It feels too intrusive to contact him directly about this. Dactylanthus edit
HI Tarkiwi; I just removed that information about Dactylanthus being a hermaphrodite (it isn't) and found a citation to support it. The Nga Manu Newsletter barely qualifies as a reliable source under Wikipedia's definition, and should only be used I think for information specifically about Nga Manu; the info about Dactylanthus population numbers is unsourced info in the newsletter and it would be great to find a peer-reviewed journal article or DOC publication that can give better population estimates.
