Hi, Steven! It's four days and 10 edits to become autoconfirmed. Judging from the time of your first edit, this should happen in a little over an hour from now, which is 17:14, 13 May 2014 (UTC). And welcome to Wikipedia! – Paine Ellsworth CLIMAX! 17:14, 13 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

It looks like you are doing okay. On geographic articles-towns, villages, cities, etc., there is a set format you need to follow; the demographic sections in these articles are a good example. Please do not let other editors intimidated you. Thank you-RFD (talk) 16:08, 13 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Colin and Julie's route through the Mediterranean.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Colin and Julie's route through the Mediterranean.jpg, which you've attributed to A VRT notice was applied over 60 day(s) ago, but no message at VRTS has been found since this tag was applied.. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ronhjones  (Talk) 16:02, 3 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Steven, I just saw your new article while I was patrolling the new pages, and i was wondering if you've looked into joining a wikiproject such as WP:NRHP. Wikiprojects always have some laundry list of work that needs to be done and i'm sure they would be willing to help you out with editing there. Speaking of which, if you have any questions yourself, feel free to give me a shout! Ryan shell (talk) 16:11, 15 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Thanks. I will indeed join the wikiproject; seems to be one of my new hobbies. I've created 15 new NHP pages, many associated photographs and counting! I won't hesitate to contact you with questions Steven C. Price 18:46, 15 October 2014 (UTC)

Your new National Register of Historic Places articles edit

I was looking at some of your new articles on sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and while I'm happy to see another new editor writing about these sites, I noticed that you've been incorporating text from NRHP nomination forms under the claim that it's in the public domain. Nomination forms are not in the public domain in most cases, as they're usually written by private citizens or contractors, and we therefore can't use that text directly in articles. TheCatalyst31 ReactionCreation 00:15, 16 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

I'm afraid I can't really help you with NHRP-related stuff -- try the NHRP Wikiproject. DS (talk) 15:06, 30 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hominy School edit

The nomination form for Hominy School is here, and its accompanying photos are here. In general, nomination forms for Oklahoma (and many other states) can be found through NPS Focus by replacing the reference number in those URLs with the number for the site you want. There's also a nice tool here that provides an infobox and links to the nomination forms for a site. For that one you have to search by reference number (search by name is having technical difficulties). TheCatalyst31 ReactionCreation 22:34, 30 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

If the photo is still under copyright, then you can't use it on Wikipedia unless you can convince the author to release it under a different license or into the public domain. (The exception to that is if the building's been demolished and you can't get a freely licensed photo, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.) By the way, you might want to record that misspelling on the NRIS information issues page for Oklahoma; WikiProject NRHP likes to keep track of the many things NRIS gets wrong.) TheCatalyst31 ReactionCreation 00:51, 4 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Josephine Reifsnyder Lustron House edit

Thanks for adding articles for NRHP properties. I've tweaked your Josephine Reifsnyder Lustron House article to make the following changes. Some of them (like removing cut and paste from the copyrighted nomination form) are mandatory, others are make better use of the infobox (for example, to get the map), others are commonly accepted citation styles.

Here's what I did and why.

  • Removed the paragraphs cut and pasted from the nomination form. That form is published by NPS, but not owned by them - it is still copyrighted by the author.
  • Used the NPS version of the nomination form as that is the "official" version, it is preferable if available. The state version is what was (or may have been) submitted, and changes can be made. I also added a pointer to the photos included with the nomination form.
  • Removed the stuff about Lustron houses in general - while interesting, it is covered in the article on Lustron.
  • Added locmapin = Oklahoma, this gets the map displayed in the infobox.
  • Removed the thumbnail version of the image and just used the file name - that way the image aligns properly in the infobox.
  • Added the NRIS template, used at the main existence reference for NRHP properties pre 2010.
  • Used the web cite template to get a better display of the reference. There are several ways to do this, any are better than raw text of the url.
  • Added the MPS - this comes from the elkman tool, which supplies some of the boilerplate for the infobox. It is currently here, but may move in the future.
  • Used the standard references section header.

I think that's most of it. It looks like a lot to know, but most of it is standard for any NRHP-type article. Generic1139 (talk) 23:42, 4 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

RE: your other articles - excellent. I'll hold off on changes then so we don't collide. Someone else may, though, that's the nature of things. Generic1139 (talk) 15:19, 5 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Nomination form and registration form are the same thing. Old forms say "National Register of Historic Places Inventory - Nomination Form". Newer ones say "National Register of Historic Places Registration Form" - and in the first line say "This form is used for nominating..." As a group, they are called "National Register of Historic Places nomination documents". I got the July 31, 2008 date from Page 4 of 11 in the PDF, section 11, the date the document was written - same place I got the author. BTW when you leave a talk page note, put ~~~~ at the end to sign it. Generic1139 (talk) 21:56, 5 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks edit

For the update on the Jonesboro Historic District. I removed the "stub" tags - it's definitely not a stub! I see you've gotten various advice/commands on how to do things for NRHP articles. Don't take it to heart, they mean well and are often correct. My main question is whether the pix of historic markers can be used. Often the text is copyrighted (depends on the state). But you should send the article to "Did You Know ... " I can do it for you if you'd like.

All the best.

Smallbones(smalltalk) 12:09, 9 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

"Did you know ..." is on the front page (left column) for new articles or those expanded 3X or more recently. It looks like you make the expansion requirement easily. I'm less worried about the historic markers now that I've looked closer. They're not marked with (c) and, if older than 1978 are public domain. But I can't find the erection dates right away.
You'd need to come up with a hook - something like: "Did you know ... that in (some year) (something amazing happened) in the Jonesboro Historic District
I'd also want to check for "close parallelism" in the write-up. Folks can get fairly picky about this form of plagiarism.
It will take me at least 3 days to do all this - if you'd prefer to do it yourself, please go ahead. Smallbones(smalltalk) 16:13, 9 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Images uploaded to Commons edit

Hey Steven, thank you for your image uploads of buildings over at Commons. I would ask, though, that when you upload an image to make sure you specify in the description line what city it was taken in and to add categories, as I've done with the images you took in Jonesborough, Tennessee. If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer or help in any way I can. Cheers! Huntster (t @ c) 05:01, 13 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Regarding the GPS coords, if you have the correct coordinates you can simply edit the description page and change them. Look for the line reading "Location dec". If you don't have the correct coordinates, you can simply remove that template...coordinates are nice to have but aren't necessary. I would guess that the information was auto-filled from camera EXIF data when you uploaded, perhaps. Huntster (t @ c) 17:02, 13 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

February/Febuary Hill edit

This is spelled "Febuary" rather than "February"? Just to note, the NRHP document spells it with "February": [1]. Bms4880 (talk) 23:52, 20 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

The NRHP document is odd, but there are a variety of sites which call it Febuary: [2], [3], [4] (which mention's the Inn's email address). Huntster (t @ c) 01:07, 21 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

If you've not seen it yet, I've apologized to you for how I came across on the Chaco Canyon talk page and wanted to repeat it here. While my intent was not to insult you, I can see how it could have come across that way, especially after you being so incredibly nice about the galley issue on Deor's talk page (which I didn't see until Deor pointed it out to me after I'd posted my comments). What's particularly bad about that is that you're obviously trying hard to be a great editor and I'm afraid that my comments may have disheartened or discouraged you. Please don't let my comments or an old curmudgeon like me have that effect on you. We need more folks like you who are trying hard to do right and improve the encyclopedia. Disambiguation link notification for October 3 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Alex Bescoby requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Disambiguation link notification for July 21 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Silverton, Colorado, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Ionic and Doric. Speedy deletion nomination of Julie Angus edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Julie Angus, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Gerstberger Pines moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Gerstberger Pines, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Concern regarding Draft:Gerstberger Pines edit

Drafts that have not been edited for six months may be deleted, so if you wish to retain the page, please edit it again or request that it be moved to your userspace.

If the page has already been deleted, you can request it be undeleted so you can continue working on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia. FireflyBot (talk) 14:02, 22 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
