Thanks, SpacemanSpiff. I didn't realize the main account was blocked (there are so many it's hard to keep track). I'll just ignore them for the future. Thanks again for dealing with this issue.--Cúchullain t/c 17:47, 10 June 2016 (UTC)

Can someone explain to me what is going on? BethNaught (talk) 18:57, 10 June 2016 (UTC)
BethNaught, I'll take a stab. Psthomas, under various IPs, returns to the article Knanaya whenever the protection expires. Pretending to be multiple unrelated people, they try to give the impression that there's support for removing (cited) material they don't like, and adding (uncited and badly cited) material they do like. Because of the sheer volume of problems this and other articles related to Indian Christianity generate, I didn't remember that the IP editor was tied back to the Psthomas account, which was blocked for copyvio and other disruption last year.--Cúchullain t/c 19:43, 10 June 2016 (UTC)
Cuchullain Thank you. I won't modify the filters then. They're meant for Nsmutte but any accidental disruption of this one is not unwelcome. BethNaught (talk) 19:51, 10 June 2016 (UTC)
Thanks Cuchullain for the explanation. BethNaught, you may also want to look at the talk page history of the named account, there's also that the entire posting history follow's Waters' lyrics rather beautifully. There were multiple posts during that time when the 117.24xx and 117.21xx tied themselves to that account though now each individual IP claims to be a different person (did that after a while then too); just that the range is too busy to do a range block. I wasn't aware that the filter was for Nsm, from the text I assumed that it was a new intelligent filter and was beginning to appreciate the marvels of modern technology! —SpacemanSpiff 02:36, 11 June 2016 (UTC)
Thanks again for speedy handling. It's unfortunate range blocks can't be used here, he's clearly not getting the message judging by the talk page.--Cúchullain t/c 02:55, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

How does one treat PIB press releases then? Setting aside the flagrant pov for a moment, shouldn't the text from Mission Indradhanush be removed as copyvio? The Masked Man of Mega Might (talk) 14:56, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

Regarding Gaurav Chakravorty page

Hey, anything takes time and what I and my team are trying to do, in finance takes time. We are trying to make finance truly transparent. Anyways, I set out trying to make a page for it, to say the why the how the what. I am not sure what the criteria were to delete a page, but that won't stop our movement. We will not back down from our effort because people tried to undo our work. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us. I get it ... wikipedia is not interested in spreading awareness about the New Occupy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gaurav chak (talkcontribs) 16:06, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

Gaurav chak, good luck with your endeavors but Wikipedia isn't an avenue to promote that. We work off of a notability criteria and subjects have to meet that, in addition to other editorial requirements. —SpacemanSpiff 16:29, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

There was nothing at all in the deleted article, but if the subject passes our notability criteria then I don't see why a new referenced article can't be created. Out of curiosity, why the interest in this article? —SpacemanSpiff 12:51, 12 June 2016 (UTC)

Regarding deletion of page- Yatharth Shastri

Hello there I had created a page named Yatharth Shastri , unfortunately it took me more time to gather references and I could not get any references at the moment.Since now I have the required references. I wish to recreate the same page. Is that okay with Wikipedia guidelines such that my page will not be deleted in future?

I don't see how you are notable, but if you do have reliable source references then I don't see why you can't create the article. However, if you do repeatedly create an article about yourself without the necessary references then it will be considered disruptive and you may be blocked. —SpacemanSpiff 04:52, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

Editing

My intention of making edits was to create awareness to the people about a prominent hospital chain which provides superior eye care at affordable costs. I have only added to the existing list of hospitals and not created a new list. Sumanth93 (talk) 13:01, 16 June 2016 (UTC) Sumanth93

You are just adding weblinks to the hospital like this and that's not on. Doing that in quick speed across multiple articles is clearly advertising. Creating awareness is not what Wikipedia is for. While in isolation one or two edits like that may be acceptable, adding that in high speed across multiple articles isn't. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 13:35, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

Regarding additions to Flag of India

sorry for the repeated posts.Just wanted to clarify. Is it appropriate to make a new page for a list of tallest National Flags? Apart from being the pride of the place, it a technically challenging to make a tall Flag mast, large flag, pulley mechanism etc. So mentioning that flag, respects that effort. And please elaborate about not conforming to flag code.Again sorry for repeated requests --Shanksweb (talk) 17:55, 15 June 2016 (UTC)

Shanksweb, a list of tallest flags may be ok but you'll have to find reliable sources covering the topic. Based on the availability of sources that article may or may not be deleted. Dharmadhyaksha works a lot on lists and can possibly explain better based on our current notability thresholds there and whether this will pass muster. As for the flag code, one basic requirement for flags is that they be made of Khadi Silk or Khadi Cotton (with Khadi Wool being added recently) and there's only one manufacturer licensed to make the flag. This one is made of polyester silk (Silk flag standards are governed by IS 300 : 1968 of BIS). Unfortunately, the size fetishists for flags these days (and this is not restricted to the Raipur flag, the Connaught place flag is made of polyester wool) don't seem to care for the flag code or manufacturing process specified by it. —SpacemanSpiff 02:34, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
  • The Jeddah Flagpole claims the tallest unsupported flagpole Guinness World Record with 171 metres (561 ft) height.ref Our record of 293 ft is nothing in front of that. Given that the tallest one is more than almost double than this record, I would guess that there are many taller flagmasts in between. A list like List of tallest flagmasts might be okay if it covers all world, but that is already covered in prose at Flag#Record_heights. Even if such a list was made, it would be going to deletion discussion and eventually getting merged. Even after merger, there would be a minimum height criteria set and I am not sure this flagmast would be included in it. That depends on how tall others in the world are. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 05:03, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
But SS, I don't see why the Ranchi flag can't be mentioned in the Flag of India article. There doesn't seem to be any suitable space as of yet in the article to mention it so it flows well; but we can try. I think that FA also lacks information on controversial flag related issues. Like maybe some court cases and their rulings dishonouring the flag, or contemporary usage of tricolour in various aspects, be it food, clothes, body painting on sports events, and maybe more.... The article is more historic and law based. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 05:23, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
This is the fourth contender for the title of largest flag this year (CP, Marine Drive, Ranchi, now this), we had a discussion a while back to remove this (the CP flag has its own article). The problem is that these are all size fetishists which get one time news coverage but not even in-depth, not one of them conforms to the flag code either and all these border on trivia. I agree that significant flags should be mentioned more in-depth, like the Red fort one or RB one, but these bits of ill-thought chest thumping should be kept out of the article. —SpacemanSpiff 05:36, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
Well, I wasn't aware of past discussions and other claims too. I actually heard of tall-flags-being-a-topic-of-discussion for the first time. Hadn't even in my weirdest thought thought about this feat. 05:19, 17 June 2016 (UTC)

Indic scripts animation

Hi, I recently noticed a new editor Gopala Krishna A's edits to our article Kannada alphabet where they added the two sections on "Pronunciation Of Kannada Letters" and "Animation Of Writing of Kannada Alphabet". The Animation section looks particularly promising to me. I couldn't find any similar initiative for any other Indic scripts.

As an admin here and who speaks Tamil as a native language (as you say on your user page) I wonder if you are aware who will be interested (as part of WP:GLAM or otherwise) to donate similar pronunciation guide/animation for other Indic scripts (Tamil, Telegu etc.). Will you be interested in raising this matter on WT:INB? Solomon7968 09:07, 18 June 2016 (UTC)

I know that this exists for some languages already. Tamil's at commons:Category:Animated GIF of Tamil letters and if I'm not mistaken something similar exists for Odia, Telugu, and Malayalam too. As far as Tamil goes, I think Ravidreams has worked with a variety of academic sources to enhance our content here but someone like Titodutta who is active in the local Wikimedia can be of more help than I can be as he probably knows the players on most regional wikis. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 12:12, 18 June 2016 (UTC)
  • I am in touch with Gopalkrishna and other people. I'll talk to/inform them. Regards. --Tito Dutta (talk) 04:33, 19 June 2016 (UTC)
Spaceman, thanks for the above link. And Odia alphabet's at commons:Category:Odia alphabet anime project. Maybe we should have some pointers from here to commons:Category:Animations of letters? But are you sure about Telugu and Malayalam? If they already exist they should be categorized and if they don't, @Titodutta, we should see among the "other people" you mention if someone is OK with adding script animation of those two languages. Solomon7968 14:23, 19 June 2016 (UTC)
  • "Other people" means - I'll see if I can find anyone doing similar works. --Tito Dutta (talk) 09:24, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for your edits here, SS. Not sure if you caught wind of this somewhere or not, but I suspect the creator of that article to be engaged in either sock or meatpuppetry to promote friends and colleagues, perhaps related to his theatre group. Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:29, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

I think I got to this walled garden through a speedy deletion that took me to get about 30 image deleted on Commons and then now back here with this article. Yeah, I was going to file an SPI, but the other account that I could link to is a wee bit stale, unless you know of more? This is a local theatre group in Shahjahanpur, not a hub of theatre but at least according to the one source that mentions what this person does that was a reasonable play (Hindi theatre is mostly successful in the bigger cities - Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur etc, and the successful actors move there). —SpacemanSpiff 17:36, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

Regarding "see also" template in India

You removed the see also template from Economy section of article India. I don't see any point in this. Though article of India is a featured one, still it is not very much elaborate as those of China, United States etc. are. This is the see also template which you removed.

The Economy section doesn't mention very clearly about these topics and what is wrong in them being mentioned as "see also" articles. Articles of other countries (see it yourself) have separate sections and sub sections related to Transport, Tourism, Energy, Nuclear power etc. Article of India hasn't any. Under such conditions, can't such topics be mentioned in see also templates ? What do you find wrong in that ? If you can't elaborate these sections (which you should do if you are removing these important articles from "see also"), why are you removing them from "see also" template. Just let the reader have the opportunity to find more on Economy of India. All the articles in see also template are firmly and above all relevantly related to Economy of India. How could you get consensus for such a disruptive edit ? I know I should be neutral but I must say that most of the images in this article (displayed randomly) show the India's image as a poverty stricken country. Your act seems to be that sort of. Are you against a good and more elaborate article for India ? A huge country like India should have a detailed information on wikipedia. If it can't be detailed in same article (the sections of Transport, Science and Technology like most of other populous countries have), why should they be removed even from "See also". Please don't do this again or justify yourself.

I am summarizing that if sub sections of Economy (all those mentioned above) and Demographics (like Religion) are not being detailed in the same article, at least they should find a mention in "see also" or "main" template. Otherwise the article would seem incomplete. (Transport, Science and Technology, Energy are noteworthy articles and need at least a mention; be it in "see also" or "main" template; they complete the info of a country.) Can you find any section of article India other than Economy where it would be more suitable to mention these articles in "see also" template. The answer is no. Please do respect other editors' views. I can't tolerate an incomplete article of India. Vibhss (talk) 21:05, 21 June 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Vibhss, don't you think the navbox with these topics already is sufficient? Plus a portal. - Brianhe (talk) 00:18, 22 June 2016 (UTC)
In addition to what Biranhe has already said, this is just plain ridiculous. If you think it should be added, then get consensus on the talk page. —SpacemanSpiff 01:42, 22 June 2016 (UTC)
Okay I got the point of both of you. India portal surely has all those articles grouped together. But not the templates at the bottom of article in main template of India topics. But I think it is okay to add Economic History of India in main template under section Economy of article India. My intention was just to improve and elaborate the article. There are wiki portals for countries like China, United States, Pakistan etc. but even then they have mentioned such topics in "see also" and "main" templates (in different sections) along with elaborating those articles in short sections and sub sections. Can't the article India be made to look like that ? This article is so much under elaborated (no mention about Health, Transport, Tourism, Science and Technology and others. At least there should be a small yet concise section or sub section highlighting and summarizing each of them as has been done in the articles I mentioned. Only that is my viewpoint.) Don't take any offense please and kindly don't see or try to show me as a destroyer of featured Wikipedia articles. I have been always against vandalism and disruptive edits and will be so even in future also. Vibhss (talk) 10:56, 22 June 2016 (UTC)
The issue is not summarizing everything but WP:DUE which has to be balanced by WP:SIZE. What is considered important by reliable sources for one country isn't the same for another. What you're suggesting has been discussed multiple times on the talk page (see the talk archives for it). Either ways, this is a topic better suited for the article talk page than mine because there are many other editors active on the article and their opinions matter. As a featured article, this has also been through a comprehensive review on completeness unlike the many others that you refer to. —SpacemanSpiff 04:29, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

Kalyal

Some slow edit warring going on at Kalyal. I probably should take it to the talk page but they are all anons or newbies and probably do not know that page even exists. My suspicion is that it may be the same person using multiple accounts and IP hopping but I simply do not have the time to dig around - operation in a few hours. - Sitush (talk) 22:26, 22 June 2016 (UTC)

Be well, Sitush. Bishonen | talk 22:29, 22 June 2016 (UTC).

Only the IP (103.255.4.3) is active now. I've warned them. If that simply leads to other IPs reverting, I can semi the article. Some IP keeps adding entries supported by dubious sources in these two pages: Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Telugu and Filmfare Special Award – South. Can you SP the pages? Vensatry (talk) 07:39, 26 June 2016 (UTC)

Looks like Padmalakshmi but as I haven't handled that in a while I'm asking Cyphoidbomb to have a look. If it is then page protection/blocks would be in order. —SpacemanSpiff 15:59, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
Vensatry, I don't see anything on the IP's talk page. The first step should be to make contact with the IP editor to school them on reliable sources and to see if they have an explanation for swapping out good refs for questionable ones. It's premature to semi the page if we haven't even attempted to educate the guy. I won't usually semi the page unless an IP editor has hopped IPs and is continuing the disruption. This doesn't look like typical Padmala stuff to me, Spiff. He usually uses edit summaries. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:10, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
I haven't kept in touch with Padma in a while, so I'm probably not the best one to identify his socks. The other day I seem to have got confused with one of Kichappan's socks for his. Imagine leaving home walking about with different colored socks! —SpacemanSpiff 16:13, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
