gun names in infoboxes edit

When adding links to gun in ship infoboxes, please do not add their designation. Forex, you've been adding links to French submarine deck guns such as [[Canon_de_75_modèle_1897#Naval_and_coastal_artillery|{{convert|75|mm|in|abbr=on}} L/34 M1897]] Please do not add caliber length or model desigations. That information is best reserved for the main body as I've gotten complaints of overly long infoboxes from editors in the past. I'd greatly appreciate it if you'd remove those from all of your recent edits on French subs.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 14:18, 23 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Unused US guns in WWI edit

I looked at 37 mm Infantry Gun Model 1917, and my research has shown it was far from alone in being relegated to artillery parks "somewhere in France". I've come across evidence of 30-some 10-inch railway guns (that were shipped to France to get their carriages), and at least 72 6-inch and 26 5-inch former coast defense guns, which never saw action because their units didn't complete training before the Armistice. Reportedly the 5-inchers never received ammo. I haven't found who was supposed to operate the 10-inchers. The details are at this link, and the US efforts to get railway guns built are here. In field artillery, we didn't produce many usable pieces before the Armistice, but something happened (skilled workers came home?) and we produced a lot before winding down after the Treaty of Versailles. Just FYI. RobDuch (talk·contribs) 01:26, 16 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Missing cite in 75 mm Field Gun M1897 on M2 Carriage edit

The article cites "Crowell 1919" but no such source is listed in bibliography. Can you please add? Also, suggest installing a script to highlight such errors in the future. All you need to do is copy and paste importScript('User:Svick/HarvErrors.js'); // Backlink: [[User:Svick/HarvErrors.js]] to your common.js page. Thanks, Renata (talk) 04:17, 8 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

File:SMS Gneisenau before World War I.jpg edit

Hey, I reverted your change to that image, as I don't think it's better (and in fact, I think it looks worse when compressed to a thumbnail size in the article). If you want to try to restore the image to remove the yellowish tint, be my guest, but I don't think a lower-res, grainier image is an improvement. Parsecboy (talk) 16:13, 25 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Onel5969: Thank you for your kind comments. I have a problem that you may be able to help with. The talk page for my sandbox points to the talk page for an article that I created long ago. If I delete the talk page for my sandbox it deletes the talk page for the article as well. So the two have become linked by the page move process and neither can be modified without effecting the other. Do you know how I can fix that? Snowdawg (talk) 14:01, 2 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Snowdawg, that's actually an easy fix, you simply remove the redirect template from your sandbox talk page, which I've done for you. May all the issues I come upon today in WP be that easy to correct!   Keep up the good work. And don't be afraid to ask other editors for help. Onel5969 TT me 14:17, 2 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification for April 30 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 7.7 cm FK 96 n.A., you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Battle of Messines. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Measurements used by militaries edit

Please don't change meters to yards or vice-versa conversions to km or miles and revert those changes you've already made. Neither of the latter is used by any large military that I'm aware of.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 20:08, 11 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Douglas R4D-8 edit

Hi Snowdog, you did a very good job on the article, but it needed improvements. and changes to follow the aircraft article section order recommendations per WP:AIR/PC. I'm not sure why you're not trying to follow the recommendations, but this is what almost all other aircraft articles use. Please remember this isn't your article, and anyone is free to make changes to improve it, per WP:OWN. Please note that you have reverted at least 2 times, and so are close to the 3RR limit. It would be a shame if you got blocke for edit warring on an article. that you created. BilCat (talk) 20:22, 10 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation pages are needed for C-117 and R4D. Because R4D-1, R4D-3, R4D-5, R4D-6, and R4D-7 are USN/USMC designations of aircraft based on the DC-3/C-47. The same goes for C-117A, C-117B, and C-117C which are USAAF/USAF designations of aircraft based on the DC-3/C-47. The R4D-8 and C-117D are converted USN/USMC R4D-5, R4D-6, and R4D-7s.Snowdawg (talk) 00:03, 11 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Disambiguation pages are unnecessary per WP:TWODABS. Just use hatnotes. BilCat (talk) 02:54, 11 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Russian 28 cm L/20 M1867 edit

I just created 28 cm L/20 M67. I now see at Category:World War I artillery of Russia that the naming of pages for Russian guns is not that consistent. Most are named for the diameter in mm, but others, e.g. the somewhat later 11-inch gun M1877 are named in inches. Is there a reason to keep the name in inches for some pages, or would it better to rename the few deviating gun pages to a format {diameter in mm}/optional:{length in caliber}/{Gun|Howitzer|Mortar}/{M yyyy}? Which would mean that I rename 28 cm L/20 M67 to 279 mm L/20 Gun M1867?Grieg2 (talk) 17:05, 10 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

The Russians like the British originally had guns designated in inches and poods which is a measure of weight. During the late 1880s Russia switched to metric. However, I don't believe the classification of their existing guns changed. Snowdawg (talk) 17:56, 10 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, I solved part of the problem by giving a default sort to the Russian Naval Gun pages, so they at least display in a logical order.Grieg2 (talk) 08:18, 11 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
