Notable people sections are normally reserved for those born in the locale, or move to the area and influenced the location. Turning up, painting a landscape and leaving is not a notable resident. Peter Kennard
I find your question difficult to understand. The citation is clearly to an exhibition catalogue, the publication details of which are given. - The fact that you asked the question does not prove that there is any ambiguity. It's possible to be mistaken! What it was was a kind of pack with reproductions of photomontages along with an essay, which is essentially a catalogue, though unusually presented. Thanks for your enquiry.
I will respond to the specific request to use an image of the mural to publish an online article on Andy Council.
You must seek permission from both Andy Council AND Luke Palmer as the mural is the work of both artists who jointly hold the copyright of their work. Please credit MShed as the location - and note that this work was commissioned by MShed through the New Expressions Fund - a joint funding initiative of the Arts Council and Renaissance South West (MLA).
The artist always retain the copyright to their work - unless they sell their rights or have a third party agent agreement for the licensing of their images.
At MShed, the copyright remains with the artists in respect of this work.
In general, MShed does not permit flash photography in the galleries, unless by arrangement and only for educational / non-profit or personal use.
However, you have highlighted that we do not have a policy published about the use of photography, so thank you for pointing this out, we will address this oversight.
If you require images for the use on Wikipedia of other aspects of MShed, then do get back in touch. I will pass you on to the appropriate person.

- If this photo were at Commons it would fall under Murals rather than Graffiti. Therefore its inclusion on Wikipedia will need the correct fair use licence (probably {{Non-free 2D art}}), and rationale for use in an article. -- Trevj (talk) 06:58, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

You were quite correct, and I shall follow up with the inexperienced patroller in question. But one thing: do not remove the speedy tag yourself There's a firm rule against it, and people who do so can be, and often are, blocked. Use the contest this deletion template--admins check for them.

- Thanks!! By the way, I didn't remove the 'speedy deletion' tag. I removed the 'advert' tag, which seemed to have been added as a face-saving measure by the reviewer. To be honest I was on the verge of deleting my account and leaving WP at that point. At least the reviewer later apologised, which was appreciated.
- There seem to be too many new article reviewers. They often manage to review articles within a couple of minutes of the article going 'live', which doesn't give a chance for the many well-meaning editors to check and amend the new article. Maybe some of them should be encouraged to deploy themselves on other, more pressing projects :) Sionk (talk) 22:48, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
William Burges
Really appreciate your re-assessment of the Burges article on the Architecture Project Importance Scale. The "Low Importance" tag always struck me as a bit ridiculous, given his talent and the quality, and importance, of his buildings, but I could never previously get it anyone in the Project to review it. Help with Russ Spiegel
Hello Sionk,
Thank you for your review of my newly created article on Russ Spiegel. Because this is my first attempt to become involved in Wikipedia, I need all the guidance I can get!
I was slightly surprised by your hesitation to deem Spiegel "notable" enough for inclusion on Wikipedia. I was a senior editor at Current Biography magazine for more than a dozen years, and we were preparing a lengthy article on him for publication in an upcoming issue. (As you may have heard given your involvement in the world of reference publishing, Current Biography was purchased late last year by a large information-services conglomerate, effectively placing many editors and writers out of work and putting the kibosh on several articles that were in the works.)
At any rate, I've revised the piece and re-submitted it for further review and hope that you will reconsider its publication. I've included, for example, many more external links (Spiegel is well represented on such sites as imdb.com, Rovi's All-Music Guide database, and All ABout Jazz), which confirm his impressive professional credentials. Additionally, I've been more specific as to his record labels, which include such international outfits as Double Moon and Steeplechase. (Not sure if you're a jazz fan, but if so, I know you'll agree that those are very well-regarded names.)
I'd also like to point out that a short piece on the German version of Wikipedia has been deemed acceptable for inclusion. While Spiegel enjoys a large fan base overseas, he works for the most part in the U.S. now, and I believe he should be represented on the English-language site.
Many thanks in advance for all your hard work. During my time at Current Biography, I came to value Wikipedia as a wonderful resource. (Speaking of my former employer, while it was gratifying to see a Wikipedia article on Current Biography, the piece is not entirely accurate at this point. I'd love to correct and expand it a bit once I get more adept with Wiki procedures!)

Articles for creation/Countess Mouldings
You have declined this article because it doesn't seem significant. In terms of the New Zealand and international replica car scene Countess Mouldings made replica Lamborghini Countach's of considerable quality and desirability. There is a reasonable amount of discussion about these cars in kit car circles (a quick Google search will show a number of discussions within blog sites). True they are not a Toyota or General Motors of this world but in terms of where they a placed they are significant. NealeFamily (talk) 23:59, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
Articles for creation/Reid Steam Car
You have commented that the car was short lived and not notable as the reason for decline. There are many short lived car makes that are included within Wikipedia - there time span is not relevant. The article was submited because it captures one of New Zealand's earliest attempts to make motor vehicles, it is possibly the first indigenous steam car, and if the New Zealand auto manufacturer section is to be complete, must be included. True, there is not a lot to write at this stage but as further work is done more detail may come to light.

Thanks for your response. Yes I have considered an article on Reid himself, but I would like to attend to that at a later stage. Reid is a quite interesting character from his biography and would be owrth further treatment.
My focus at the moment is trying to ensure all the assorted New Zealand car makes are identified in Wiki. Some like this only have a small amount of information, while others are more detailed. I guess this article sits somewhere around as Stub class, but it is important as it forms part of the bigger picture. My intention is to continue expanding the article as I find more information, something I have done with the other articles I have written. Not sure how you added the text in the reference list, but the article looks very professional. It meant a lot to get this posted. A.J. Bates was my great-granfather, and he had the one son, Edgar Asa Bates and I am his only grandchild. Edgar Asa Bates expanded shoe company operations even further. I do not have any of my own children to pass along the name to the next generation, so in some respects this wikipedia article is an enduring legacy. New Build
Hi there! Thanks for reviewing my article about the English band New Build which is a collaboration between members of Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem.
Although as you state the band are relatively new, the members of the band are long term collaborators who have been musicians of significance for almost 10 years.
Consequently there is a large amount of media interest in the band, numerous articles appearing in publications such as Rolling Stone Magazine, Pitchfork, URB Magazine, FACT Magazine, The Guardian (in the UK), the NME, to name just a few.
There have also been almost 30,000 plays of the bands singles on their Soundcloud page which further indicates a relatively high degree of public interest.
The problem is that a lot of the articles appearing about the band are factually incorrect, which is why I was motivated to try and create the page. The function of Wikipedia being to give information in an impartial manner on significant things.

Sionk-Yes, we are referring to draft article on Washington Map Society. May I ask that you look a bit more closely at sources cited in our second submission? Unlike first submission, all sources, with perhaps one exception, are external sources, including Maphistory/History of Cartography (based in Netherlands), Infography (an unaffiliated website covering multiple and diverse fields of knowledge), a Library of Congress Information Bulletin,the IMCOS Journal (an international map collection publication), and a noteworthy issue of the California Map Society newsletter. - I have already looked at the article. The major problem (as the message says) is that notability has not been proven. Only subjects that are 'notable' are suitable for their own Wikipedia article. We would need at least one regional or national news source. Specialist publications of very limited circulation are not sufficient, unfortunately. In addition, the band has been featured in a print article in Dark City Magazine, Issue #47 (November/December), Page 62. This publication has been in print since 2002 and is sold in mainstream stores in Russia, which should meet guidlines for "non-trivial" publications. - Apeiron is a 7-track CD that clocks in at around 31-minutes, which technically classifies it as somewhere in between an EP and an LP. Similarly, their single for Kharnha is actually more of an EP than an SP. So I am a bit confused as to how I should list them. Also, the name discrepancy is due to the fact that "Альбом" is the Russian name of the album, while "Apeiron" is the name of the release in all other territories. And last but not least, I have re-edited the article to include their appearance in Dark City magazine, with citations included. I hope this helps! And thank you very much for the speedy reply.

- Sorry, I didn't know how to talk on my own page because I am new to Wikipedia. Thank you for the corrections. As for the article, I am not sure of how to cite that one to be honest. I mean, there is a scan available for the article online, as well as the magazine cover which shows WelicoRuss as being featured. And the magazine has a website. How so I go about citing it then? Also, I will edit the article to list Apeiron as an album, since that is how it is listed on the label page.

Moreover it looks like googling for IRIT, even from a UK or US IP address returns as top of the search this research institute, just because it is pretty notable, even outside France. Thanks for review and clean-up! :-) It's my first try - and I got sucked into it just by accident - looking for Adam Pavlásek on eng. W. and not finding it... Didn't really intend to learn creating and submitting... somehow couldn't stop after just peeking into it - the process is quite well guided.
I've made some further improvements (I hope...) after your editing, some problems still there I'm afraid - f.ex. the ITF ranking reference shouldn't be linked, but retrieved (don't know how to do that). Also I don't understand the remark about references being "raw url" - how else should they look?
Anyway, I'm happy my invested time (muuuch longer than I intended orig.) didn't go to garbage bin - thanks for help and making it "publishable" :-)

Articles for creation/ZMBH
Hi Sionk,
thanks for reviewing the ZMBH article.
Regarding your first suggestion: the ZMBH is a central scientific research center under the direct guidance of the Rector of the University and independent from the Faculty of Biosciences. In fact, professors who work at the ZMBH are members of several Faculties. Therefore the two cannot be merged into one article.
You also commented that the ZMBH did not seem notable enough in its own right. A similar article has been published on the German Wikipedia website but we think an English version is needed, too, because this is an international research center (40% non-German scientists, from all over the world). When prospective graduate and undergraduate students, postdocs or faculty get interested they should be able to get basic information via Wikipedia and other persons with an interest in scientific non-commercial research should also be able to do so.
Concerning the notability, one can state that the ZMBH is among the leading research centers in the field of molecular biology in Europe, definitely on a par with:
the Institut Pasteur de Lille,
the Weill Institute for Cell and Molecular Biology,
the Institut de biologie moléculaire et cellulaire
and the Babraham Institute
If one only measured the merit of an institute by the number of Nobel Prize winners, only a few places on earth would make it onto that list. Therefore, other criteria, like for example the number of publications in the most renowned journals of that field should count. The ZMBH for example published:
10 papers in Nature and
15 papers in Science.
This alone should be proof enough for the world-wide reputation of the ZMBH in the field of molecular biology and cell biology. If this should really be needed, other scientific performance metrics could be provided.
A Google search for the ZMBH via the English search engine produces over 400,000 relevant hits.
Furthermore entries like the one for Stefan Jentsch or the current president of the Max-Planck-Society, Peter Gruss, would profit if the ZMBH could be cross-referenced as a site of their career. I hope that these arguments are convincing enough to let this article pass.

Articles for creation/Thomas Smiley
Hello Sionk,
I want to thank you for your review and comment.
I have reworked the references to ensure that they are independent and verifiable.
The article is not original research, as most of the research was conducted before I was born.
I believe that Thomas Smiley qualifies under notability criteria WP:BASIC and WP:ANYBIO.
Is there any other way this article can be improved, so that it can be approved for article status, and subsequently be edited and improved by others.
Some of the Wikipedia articles that Thomas Smiley links to also need to be edited and improved, and perhaps this connection can help foster that.
As the Crown of England found Thomas Smiley to be notable, I believe so should we at Wikipedia.

- Thankyou for your message and your efforts to improve Wikipedia. Unfortunately if the decision was up to me, I would still say that the wider notability of Thomas Smiley has not been proven. The article is sourced almost entirely from "Genealogy of Smiley family and descendants". Suitability for a Wikipedia article needs to be based on multiple in-depth reliable published sources. His claim to fame seems to be that he fought for William III at the Siege of Londonderry, which doesn't mark him out from lots of other battle participants. I'd urge to to add additional sources about Thomas, to show he has been more widely noticed. Sionk (talk) 12:54, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

- You need to read the guidance which is linked to in the 'decline' message. To show that the WMS is sufficently notable for an encyclopaedia article, you need to show evidence of in-depth coverage by independent, secondary sources. The sources in the article are a brief mention in an obituary and a brief mention in a Q&A article about map restoration. The article is still largely unveriable and unsourced. If I was re-reviewing your article, I would decline it again. You might want to work a bit more on providing some convincing sources. Sionk (talk) 00:04, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
