Speedy deletion nomination of Unlikely Heroes edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Unlikely Heroes requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://unlikelyheroes.com/about/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Unlikely Heroes edit

In future, try not to copy-paste when writing new articles, it is really easy for editors to catch this, by using a tool such as this one. I got caught out the same way when I made my first article, sometimes in the shuffle of information copied material can be accidentally incorporated. In future, if you have any doubts, use the tool above to double check yourself, or else submit the article to Articles for Creation instead of moving it directly to the namespace. As for the article in question, it now seems free of copyright violations (though I had to remove one small section for copied text). Good luck in the future, you seem to be a well intentioned editor. InsertCleverPhraseHere 19:40, 11 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Insertcleverphrasehere, thank you. The article got deleted so fast I never had a chance to improve it. I wasn't sure if it was okay to just repost it with different language so thanks for letting me know. ScooterSponson (talk) 07:56, 14 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

DYK for Tony Ahn edit

On 21 December 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Tony Ahn, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that in 2015, Tony Ahn hiked the 63-mile (101 km) Bataan Death March route, consuming only a cup of rice and a liter of water per day to raise awareness that Filipinos were also forced to march? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Tony Ahn. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Tony Ahn), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

March Madness 2017 edit

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting edit

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Tony Ahn edit

(More at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard/Archive 126#Tony Ahn PR/Reputation Management)

Hi ScooterSponson. I work on conflict of interest issues along with my regular editing.

Would you please disclose the nature of your relationship with Tony Ahn?

Also, would you please disclose how the content you added to Wikipedia in this diff was generated. To be clear my sense is that Tony Ahn provided it to you; please clarify if that is accurate in whole or in part.

And the same question with with regard to this.

I am just trying to get things disclosed so we can manage any COIs that are relevant here and put things on a solid footing for the future.

Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 19:59, 10 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hi Jytdog. Ive no relationship with Tony Ahn. Ive never met him. I cant see the diff you have provided as the page is deleted but he didnt provide me any information. Was I blocked because I wrote about someone who got blocked? How do I get unblocked, if possible? ScooterSponson (talk) 03:40, 20 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for replying. Your reply is not credible to me, but I am not the one you have to convince. You were blocked by User:Athaenara whom I just pinged, with the rationale: "Using Wikipedia for promotion or advertising purposes: sock/meatpuppet of Tony Ahn, ref Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard#Tony Ahn PR/Reputation Management, block logs for users I'm Tony Ahn, Noraft". That is what you will need to address to be unblocked. Athaenara would you please provide the talk page block notice so that ScooterSponson has the instructions for how to request an unblock? Jytdog (talk) 07:11, 20 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing because of information brought to light about your promotional editing in the January 2018 Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard#Tony Ahn PR/Reputation Management discussion.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  – Athaenara 07:55, 20 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive edit

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
  • updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.
