Spectre

How is the film not a follow-up? All the actors are returning, Ralph Fiennes has taken over as M after Judi Dench's death in Skyfall. Mr. White is returning as well. We've listed Quantum of Solace as a direct sequel to Casino Royale. To not have any mention of Spectre on the Skyfall page seems ridiculous.--Valkyrie Red (talk) 00:17, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

Not ridiculous at all. QoS was a direct sequel to CR (with Mr White in the boot of the car). The film made it obvious and the sources said so. Spectre hasn't even been released, so it's difficult to claim it's a follow-up when there are only scant details of the story. Most importantly the sources do not describe it as a follow up. As far as the public know at the moment, Skyfall was a stand-alone storyline, and Spectre will be too, even though there are some connections. Once the film is released, and the sources make the connection (if there is one), it may be a different story, but not until the sources make the connection. - SchroCat (talk) 08:07, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

It has more text than the Poets Laureates' page, to the extent that FLC is probably not a realistic option. What think you? Hi, it would be a shame to demote the Filmography. As you probably know it's challenging to incorporate media such as pics and videos into our articles due to copyright. However the filmography utilizes the Presidential Library and it's treasure trove of public domain material making this list unusually rich in pics and video. – Sir Lionel, EG(talk) 00:43, 25 September 2015 (UTC)

Well it doesn't need to be delisted as long as all the information is supported by citations from a reliable source. The two tables are virtually unsourced (only two entries have a citation) and that's just not up to FL standards. There are normally a couple of weeks grace for work to make inroads into the problem, and if it's moving the right direction the decision is normally deferred until that work is finished. – SchroCat (talk) 06:46, 25 September 2015 (UTC)

I have little time or respect for the self-appointed Guardians of the MoS, who do little constructive work on the encyclopaedia, but insist on being treated like some oracle, despite their monumental limitations. Read the article Dank: the term is backed up by the reliable sources, which is why it's repeated in the lead and why it was repeated again in the blurb. – SchroCat (talk) 22:48, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
I'm guessing (this is just a guess) that you'd prefer to have someone knowledgeable vetting your stuff, someone who has a native grasp of your language and who thoroughly understands the relevant wikiproject standards. If so, I agree with you ... and I agree that that's not me. I also believe that tossing FAC-related questions over to WT:MOS can be hit-or-miss, so it's not the desired go-to strategy ... a good, knowledgeable copyeditor would be better. I'm going to keep looking for someone who has served in a copyediting role that you and your co-workers are particularly comfortable with. I see you felt there were too many commas at George Formby Sr: [1]. I also felt there were too many commas, but if there is one after the "according to" prepositional phrase, there should be one before it. I don't see the need for either the comma after "according to George Formby's biographers" or the comma after the names of the biographers. I would remove both of those and put the one you removed back in. I don't expect you to do that since we often disagree on punctuation, but I just thought I'd let you know the way I see it. I also think you are wrong on the placement of the quotation marks outside the period. Read the second paragraph of MOS:LQ carefully. The "sentence" referred to is what is in the quotation marks, not the sentence in which the quotation is included. Otherwise, there would be no point in including a section on the placement of quotation marks in MOS. Corinne (talk) 19:19, 4 October 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for your opinion, but the commas are fine in BrEng as they currently stand. In terms of LQ, I'm afraid you've not got that right, and the complete sentence (which is what is there is at the moment) is completed by the full stop prior to the closing quote marks. If it was a partial sentence, then the full stop would be after the quote marks. The sentence in question isn't just closed in the original, it is the end of the paragraph too. As I've pointed out to you previously, there are many times that you need to have sight of the original before you change the punctuation around. - SchroCat (talk) 08:30, 5 October 2015 (UTC)

I wanted to pop by to thank you for hatting that side conversation at the Sinatra talk page. That got unnecessarily nasty and personal. Your comment on the collapse bar was also apt and appropriate. I appreciate that you did that. You know how contentious my RfA was and you may not have known that I was also putting up with things like this (which is the one left that wasn't revdeled). I'm pretty tough, but still needing some recovery space, considering the situation, so it's nice to see folks who may not always agree with me still act with integrity and support for things like NPA and AGF, no matter who is involved. By the way, if you have any interest in doing a drive-by informal PR on the article I'm looking at for "my" next GA, it's Beholder (horse), and I always like to have non-horsey people look at these to be sure we are not falling into a writing style that borders on incomprehensible gibberish. There exists Glossary of equestrian terms and North American horse racing terminology that we often link to for certain technical language where no other article exists, and I particularly value folks pointing where we need to do so! (but heh, the infobox stays, though I'd give my eyeteeth to get a photo, we are having no luck finding free images of her!) Montanabw(talk) 17:53, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

I didn't see you had an RfA up - I've been a bit tied up recently and haven't strayed out of a few articles, without looking at some of the more central stuff. You're braver than me: it's not a job I would ever want to do, let alone go through the process of having everyone I've ever pissed off lining up to have a major pop at me!! (And that's before the idiots sock to throw cheap shots in afterwards!)

Many thanks. What an unfortunate trend: the sentence as it stood suggested that the white markings were bred and the comma clarifies the situation. You're welcome. And on the capitalization issue (fought out in a long, hard battle by WikiProject Equine) the capitalized word 'Thoroughbred' is generally used here in America to refer to the specific breed of horse, while 'thoroughbred' in the lower case means any purebred horse, i.e; "That farmer breeds thoroughbred Tennessee Walkers". I'm pretty sure it's used that way in the article because it's an American article about an American horse, in the same manner that British articles use "colour" with a u. Except, WAM (smiles) that we in horse land always say "purebred" not "thoroughbred," as a "Thoroughbred Tennessee Walker" is a crossbred between a Thoroughbred and a Tennssee Walker ;-). I am not going to go to the mat over the capitalization issue, as some people care a great deal, but yes, the position of WPEQ is that because the Thoroughbred is a breed of horse, it should be capitalized so as not to be confused with the "generic" meaning of "purebred". That said, the New York Times disagrees with the Jockey Club on the issue, so who wants to land in the middle of that dispute? LOL! Montanabw(talk) 18:46, 6 October 2015 (UTC)

I've noticed your frequent requests at Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors to add "the". It would be much more helpful if you made the edit yourself before it went on the main page. For example, I found the place where dyk is staged before going to the main page: Template:Did you know/Queue. There you can edit the preparation areas yourself. If it's already been put into a queue, those are protected, but you can request an edit at Wikipedia talk:Did you know. This would be preferable to waiting until it's on the main page for however long until you notice it, reporting it as an error, then waiting however long for someone to make the edit (if anyone ever even does). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Inglefoot (talk • contribs) 21:43, 14 October 2015 (UTC)

Okay. It looked like you were more invested in it than just "glancing". This edit rung a bell, and it seems the same editor has tried to push this before in February this year ([3] & [4]) so that's another thing we have to keep an eye on in this article. Isthmus is a fictional city in the film, so technically it is not anywhere unless the film provides a specific location. I think it is pretty obvious it is a Caribbean country though, and you don't need to be a genius to figure out where they took the name from. Betty Logan (talk) 22:41, 18 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi, the archiving is quite a straightforward process. There are a few around, but I use this one. Just add the url of the page you want archived and an email address and press the button. About 10 seconds later you'll get a confirmation page with a shortened url. You then need to add the details to the reference (if you're using the sfn template, use the format |archivedate=9 September 2015|archiveurl=http://www.webcitation.org/6bPQDkO4v). Hope this helps! No probs. This is a problemativ editor who has removed sourced content from a few articles, always on rather spurious grounds. Always a nightmare to lose a computer – it's amazing how bad they used,used to be (when we all thought they were superb) but they can't even cope with simple stuff nowadays! Wikipedia isn't too bad actually, mainly because the software hasn't changed that much. But Christ almighty, on websites designed for tablets it is painful. Ordinarily I would buy a new one this weekend but with black Friday coming up next month I will stick it out and try and get a bargain, and hopefully avoid being photographed by the Daily Mail slugging it out! I have never encountered this editor before, but if they are going around removing sourced content from lots of articles simply because they disagree with the conclusions then that is something that is going to have to be dealt with. You may be lucky: I read somewhere that Black Friday is coming two weeks earlier this year, so you never know! I've got an eye on them, and will take action if they carry on removing stuff. It's because I have perceived your comments to me as uncivil, to a greater or lesser extent, from the very beginning; and I saw the way you chose to phrase your revert as a continuation of that incivility. So I pushed back. No doubt your view of this exchange is different, and if there is anything you haven't already got off your chest, here is the place to do it. Then let's both try to be civil. Spectre box office

I know you and I have had our differences about how to handle box office figures (mostly because you're I'm assuming UK and I'm American) but I really think having more than just the total gross as the opening line of the box office tab is important/interesting. So. What I did was pretty much copied Kingsmen's format and said "As of _____, Spectre has grossed (total amount). $(blank) has been generated from the UK market and $(blank) from the United States." I think this serves both of us as it puts the UK first and foremaost, but it includes the US, which is the predominant film market and will be probably 33% of the entire gross of the film. I confess to the accidental use of US spelling. But "clumsy grammar" and "not an improvement"? Before my edit, it just said Bond was going to his enemy's funeral, which is likely to baffle readers. I attempted to explain the reason for his doing that. Guess that's "not an improvement." And, unless a reader has seen the film, mightn't they be confused why Oberhauser's "addressing Bond by name" would prompt "Bond to escape"? As for the word "jaded", that was my attempt to explain why this woman would just confess to her husband's murderer all about her husband. So there is a method to my madness! Like Tim I'm mightily relieved that you're back, because I tend to rely on you to resolve technical issues that are beyond my feeble powers. On 8 December, Symphony No. 8 (Sibelius) will be TFA, in honour of the composer's 150th birthday. In checking the source links I find that two have died, those for refs 23 and 38. I know that there is a procedure for tracing web pages when the links have gone, but I don't know what it is; can you help? I'd be most grateful. Plenty of days in hand, so no particular rush. There has been a recent alteration to the lead at James Bond filmography, changing the "RNR" to "RN". I have checked, this is correct for Skyfall, but do you know if this is the case for the earlier films? I am guessing the original RNR must have come from somewhere, and if different variations have been used throughout the series we ought to clarify this. It'll have to be a talk page job to get consensus on this. Moore certainly appears as an RNR officer in at least one film, so I think it'll have to go to a further discussion.
