Notability of cricketers edit

Hi. Please note that over the past year, the notability has been changed. Playing a domestic match in India no longer meets the threshold at WP:NCRIC. Please see Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket/Official cricket. Please do not create any further pages, unless they meet WP:NCRIC or WP:GNG. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 09:02, 8 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Lugnuts: Thanks for pointing out. I just checked the notability criteria and I didn't understand how it is decided for Indian cricket. While Sheffield Shield is played between Australian states is notable, how come Ranji Trophy is not notable and only Irani Cup, which has only one match is notable? Same with First-class cricket. T20 seems to be following same trend of keeping leagues as notable but not highest-level domestic T20 tournament. SaGa (talk) 14:43, 8 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi. There were lengthy (and I do mean lengthy!) discussions at both the Sports and Cricket projects. Link one, Link two. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 15:00, 8 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Lugnuts: Hi. Thanks for both the links and yes, those are really long. I tried to get the gist of it. I get that since Indian domestic cricket is very big and doesn't seem good idea to have a page for each and every player. I agree for the page you moved but my question is that even if there is an Indian player with significant number of matches under his belt for domestic team without playing IPL/any of the mentioned tournaments (we all know that there is a regional bias when squads for Irani cup/Duleep Trophy are selected which is still a big issue in India) can't have a page? I couldn't find anything like what is the minimum number of domestic matches someone needs to play to pass notability. Thanks. SaGa (talk) 19:56, 8 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi. No problem and thanks for taking the time to read those debates. It's not just down to number of matches, but more general coverage. If you can find other news articles about them, such as lengthy interviews, for example, above and beyond of a match report, then they would pass WP:GNG and be OK for an article. @Lugnuts:Thanks for the clarification. Will follow the rules accordingly. SaGa (talk) 16:03, 9 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Lugnuts: I added more references to the page, Draft:Abdul Ela Al Quraishi. If it follows notability rules, can you move this out of draft space? Thanks. SaGa (talk) 07:25, 22 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
Done! Nice work on finding the extra sources. I'd use that as a brightline for creating bios for Indian domestic cricketers - I've done the same for a few I've created this season. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:32, 22 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
