Controversial topic area alert edit

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

October 2020 edit

Hello Roger editor. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Roger editor. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Roger editor|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. GSS💬 15:45, 19 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your message. I can confirm that, as I am not being directly or indirectly compensated for my edits. I will try my best to contribute. Keep guiding me. My interest is in to cover Asia, Africa, and Europe majorly. If you have seen any errors, I am happy to correct & learning from all our wiki team members. Can you please explain what made you create draft:Roshan Bhondekar just a few days after an advertisement was posted on a freelancing website? GSS💬 07:27, 20 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi GSS, Thanks for your guidance. As I am not aware of anything regarding this, can you please elaborate on which freelancing website? It might be highly possible that some websites are trying to defame notable people ?. I am regularly contributing and building profiles of non-living and living people across Europe, Asia, and Africa. If you think, submitted article having any promotional content or not having enough notability then please advise, I will fix it and if required will delete unwanted text.   Thank you. What made me create the draft about this notable Spanish artist-   Note: I was randomly reading about writers and filmmakers in Spain and have found some young artists from Spain made a huge contribution to society like this person as well. When I researched   Checked on google, I have found that his work is notable for the public interest. I will keep writing more articles about notable people across Europe. Awaiting your feedback and guidance further. - Roger editor (talk) 11:21, 20 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi @GSS:, As per our Wikipedia policy, I believe that Wikipedians should be excellent to one another, we should value the third opinions and occasionally provides one. I am writing about publicly known people whose work is being an inspiration and credible towards community. I am waiting for your feedback.   Note: I was randomly reading about writers and filmmakers in Spain and have found some promising artists made valuable contributions to society by highlighting social issues through films and theaters' performance. Below Spanish artists are notable and I have seen their work on Spanish National Television RTVE as well.

I have   Completed the draft, would you like to suggest if any changes are required.

Wikipedia and copyright edit

Hello Roger editor, and welcome to Wikipedia. While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. All other images must be made available under a free and open license that allows commercial and derivative reuse to be used on Wikipedia.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 10:41, 20 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Anna Allen moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Anna Allen, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hi @Praxidicae:, Thanks for your advice and suggestion. I have Corrected grammar and wording about this Spanish actress, moved appropriate texts into the early life section. Have added the additional reliable source link after verifying from google. Could you please check and let me know so I can move it to mainspace Draft:Anna_Allen.   Thank you -

Request reason:

I am contributing to Wikipedia, to help and improve the existing articles and also correcting the required information, also participating in 'deletion reviews'. If you look at my contribution, as I have taken responsibilities to add (short descriptions) in various profiles. As I have mentioned on my talk page, as I do not edit or otherwise contribute to any article or project on behalf of any employer, client, or affiliated person, organization, or other entity. If you find any errors in my contributions, please feel free to correct and guide me. Please take a review of my contributions, it does not involve any advertising or promotion. Believing the block was incorrect and hence requesting reconsideration. Objectives: 1. To improve and maintain the accuracy here and aims to cover Europe, Asia, and Africa majorly. 2. I have participated in the 'AFD' discussions and given my honest feedback on various submissions. 3. Majorly added 'Short descriptions' tag on existing profiles after verifying the contribution. 4. I am being a member of the WikiProject European Union, will contribute my best to make our wiki community more transparent. 5. I have created articles purely based on my research after watching Television shows and after reading Books. 6. You can see most of the articles, I have created are based on available google sources majorly based on available public sources.

In addition, I am committed to making constructive contributions to Wikipedia that are unrelated to the subject of any promotion.

On Mission: - what I would like to edit if unblocked? 1. To participate regularly in the 'AFD' discussions and give feedback after doing ground research. 2. To add missing 'Short Description' tag on various existing profiles across Europe and America. 3. To write articles about filmmakers and writers around Europe, America, and Asia. 4. To edit Spain's Prime Minister profile with recent development initiatives in Spain with credible sources. 5. To edit various politician profiles across the globe, as my interest is in Political Science.

If I am blocked for something I did wrong, I take full responsibility and I will ensure that it will not repeat again. I would like to understand my mistakes, and happy to correct them. @MER-C: I can confirm that here, as I am not involved as of now for any advertising or promotion of any product or any parties.

Kindly consider a request for a review of my work.   Thank you .

MER-C, A fair amount of edits from this editor to sift through, could you point out what prompted you to block, and where the puppetry was likely? Thanks :) CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 19:45, 7 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
I forwarded an email to the paid editing mailing list and added a bunch of paid editing tells which I will not disclose on-wiki. The sock/meatpuppetry is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dimetri Hogan (2nd nomination), which is a repost of a deleted UPE page. MER-C 19:50, 7 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Might be there is confusion, the AFD discussions I have participated not having any direct/indirect connection, if you @MER-C: look at my contribution in 'AFD' all are based on my 'google research'. I am based in Spain, and I have contributed to fair use. (I accept that the text in comments, I have altered but not having any connection with party).I can ensure that there is no other thought in my mind. Trust me!! I would request you to check all my feedback on 'AFD' and see all are based on my knowledge in research. Kindly check also the articles, I have created.

@MER-C:, @CaptainEek:, Please do check and advise. I will ensure the quality contribution to above-mentioned mission.   Thank you - Roger editor (talk) 20:27, 7 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Are you associated with Robert.europe (talk · contribs) in some way? Also, can you explain why File:Gilberto Aleman.jpg looks like the exact same image as this image? Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dimetri Hogan (2nd nomination) looks like it would take hours to research thoroughly. But, honestly, I don't think the SPAs posting there are the same person. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 20:19, 7 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for addressing @NinjaRobotPirate:, Answer 1: Yes this user Robert.europe (talk · contribs) is from my apartment, and I did a big mistake here as I have allowed him to log in on my computer last month (It was my huge mistake and I will never permit Robert) to use my computer. I accept it as it is against our wiki policy and I will never encourage such behavior as we are following 'One editor, one account'. Answer2: AS I have mentioned, I am not involved directly and indirectly with this person. I have given my feedback based on my research on google for Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dimetri Hogan (2nd nomination). Answer 3: About this image File:Gilberto Aleman.jpg I have taken it from google [1] and uploaded on my Flickr account: https://www.flickr.com/photos/190405600@N06/50572422883 while considering appropriate license 'Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0 Generic (CC BY-SA 2.0)'. I will ensure to maintain honesty and transparency in my contribution. I do accept, as I mentioned in my 'Answer 1' is my biggest mistake in life and I will never repeat again (It is my promise) and also I do not fall under SPAs posting and will never encourage people to create/use Single-purpose account. --Roger editor (talk) 20:56, 7 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Well, I hope he didn't actually log into your account. Sharing accounts and passwords is bad. If someone creates their own account using your computer, that's OK. As for the image, you can't just take someone else's work and claim it as your own. This is known as "flickr washing". Regardless of any other issues, you need to stay blocked until you can explain how basic copyright works. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 21:08, 7 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I never shared a password, and I will ensure that if you suspect in the future that if I have shared my password or account, I will never appeal for unblocking. The copyright issue is a serious factor for us. As I have understood and we can't accept the pictures which are published on the internet, we can use the pictures only if the image photographed in a public place or it should be entirely created by myself. I will only upload the pictures If I have permission from the publisher in that case. I have gone through https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Help_desk and will adhere to all guidelines strictly. I can ensure that I will not upload any pictures until the next 1-year as I have to improve and contribute to the text through research in the coming years. I also read and understood https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:UploadWizard. Hope these answers make sense around my contribution to our community. @NinjaRobotPirate: kindly advise. I am looking forward to learns more and correct me in case of any mistakes. Looking forward to learning and contribute towards mission as I have mentioned in the appeal.   Thank you -Roger editor (talk) 21:39, 7 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi @NinjaRobotPirate:, as I have thoroughly gone through the ‘Basic copyright issues’ detailed information and understood well. Below is my understanding besides what I have explained above:
I also understood, taking a screenshot of something online is in no way equivalent to taking a photograph, and generally gives me no copyright ownership of the screenshot taken. If I have taken an image myself of an object that isn't artwork in its own right I can upload it as long as I release it under a suitable free copyright license or into the public domain. A more detailed examination of the issue involves various concepts such as the threshold of originality and freedom of panorama. In short, even if I take the photograph myself, if the photograph includes someone else's non-free artwork, such as a painting or sculpture, which is itself copyrighted, the photograph is non-free regardless of any stated release by the photog.
I have referred and will follow these instructions strictly going forward, have taken from reference from below repository: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Basic_copyright_issues and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Copyrights
Hereby   Confirmed that, I don't have SPAs posting on Wikipedia as mistakenly claimed by the user (MER-C) earlier and you also investigated and mentioned ‘you don't think the SPAs posting from me as well’. Kindly advise further and guide me in case of any corrections in my contribution so far!
Since the beginning, I have disclosed on my user page as well: I do not edit or otherwise contribute to any article or project on behalf of any employer, client, or affiliated person, organization, or other entity.
Thank you very much! for your support and time for investigating. Hope this clarifies and helps to unblock. --Roger editor (talk) 17:46, 9 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Kindly advise and guide. Hope the above-mentioned clarifications suffice. Looking forward to learning from you @MER-C:, @CaptainEek: and @NinjaRobotPirate:.   Thank you. As I have promised and outlined in the objectives and mission statement, along with that please do assign some additional work/projects/responsibilities, I would be happy to contribute for. Gracias/Merci. --Roger editor (talk) 21:24, 16 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Well, I'm not an expert on how Commons does things. They have their own policies independent of ours. Copyright can get complicated, but I think you've covered the basics above. If you don't understand copyright law of the United States – and most people probably don't – it would probably be wisest to stick entirely to using images that are unambiguously allowed, such as CC0. See Commons:Commons:Licensing#Well-known licenses for an easy-to-understand graphic. As far as undisclosed paid editing, meat puppetry, and off-site canvassing, it's difficult to prove one way or another. I've got five tabs open in my browser where I'm trying to write stuff. Please don't ping me again; I'm busy, and I'm not your defense attorney. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 22:20, 16 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Honestly, I think that came out a bit too irritable, so I apologize for that, but I'm getting multiple pings today from random people, and I can't attend to all of these pings while doing the things that I want to do. You have an open unblock request, and you don't need to ping me specifically to attend to it. A volunteer will eventually respond, much as I did, and may take further action. I don't want to log in to some other server to look at the evidence MER-C alluded to above, so I can't really comment on that evidence. Someone else eventually will. It may take several weeks before anything happens. If you become tired of waiting, one potential avenue for you is to appeal to Arbcom based on the existence of private evidence. Request reason:

I am placing unblock request 3rd time with all valid answers, as I have placed the initial unblock request on 7th November 2020 with all the required justification with clear objectives and mission and it has been rejected without any valid justification. Kindly check the earlier request details along with this request details. Requesting you to review my activities and please do consider for unblock. To be unblocked, hereby below are justifications:

*#understand what you have been blocked for: Answer: I have done "flickr washing". About this image File:Gilberto Aleman.jpg I have taken it from google [4] and uploaded on my Flickr account: https://www.flickr.com/photos/190405600@N06/50572422883, which is against our wiki policy.

*#will not continue to cause damage or disruption: Answer: Yes, will not do "flickr washing" going forward.

*#will make useful contributions instead: Answer: yes, Will make useful contribution, below are some pointers:

I can confirm that here, as I am not involved as of now for any advertising or promotion of any product or any parties.

Kindly consider a request for a review of my work. Believing the block was incorrect and hence requesting reconsideration. - Roger editor (talk) 10:13, 1 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
