Even if I would be banned, many thanks for protecting Wikipedia against any sort of vandalism. I was amateurishly trying to do this apparently.

Kind regards

  • You're welcome. Given that both you and the other user seems to have stopped, hopefully the admins won't block you. It's easy to get into edit wars... I've gotten into them too. Rockstonetalk to me! 19:45, 8 July 2019 (UTC)

17 kutalmis bercin has been introducing a lot of serious errors into the OpenFOAM page I have been trying to correct. In particular that the original author is Henry Weller, none of the others added to the list were around in 1989, and also that the OpenFOAM is copyright of and released by the OpenFOAM Foundation, not OpenCFD/ESI because the copyright was transferred to the OpenFOAM Foundation in 2011. There are many other errors which need to be corrected. Could you stop kutalmis bercin reintroducing all the errors?

You said in your Edit summary "reverting my change without discussion was not very appropriate". In fact, the usual convention on Wikipedia is Bold, Revert, Discuss, not Bold, Revert, Revert, Discuss. HiLo48 (talk) 03:16, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

ArbCom 2018 election voter messageEdit

Hello, Rockstone35. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of User:Rockstone35/list of banned usersEdit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Rockstone35/list of banned users, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, such as at Articles for deletion. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. — pythoncoder  (talk | contribs) 02:45, 15 March 2019 (UTC)

Robert Schwarz frantic userEdit

That user who keeps reverting our edits, check what he said. Aviartm (talk) 04:12, 29 March 2019 (UTC)

  • There's no way to verify that he is who he says he is. Anyone could claim to be him. That being said, geolocate does say that his ISP is the United States Antarctic Program, so who knows. Rockstonetalk to me! 04:16, 29 March 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, and you think if that were him, he would be more professional about it. Lol. Aviartm (talk) 04:26, 29 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi Rockstone35,

I know it is fustrating for you to receive this note on your userpage, but the revert on the page (with the oldid as the subject) is from a person whom participated in the editathon that I helped out at as the capacity for Wikimedia Community User Group Hong Kong. She has stated from the email that:

Here is the situation:

I asked Wu Tsang if anything was wrong with her Wiki page, and she mentioned:

The city where she is based should be updated from Athens to Berlin/NY The sentence describing what her work concerns was inaccurate.

So I updated these two items on her page using her MacArthur Foundation genius grant page as the citation:

I know that you reverted it shortly after the editor edited the article, but I am just notifying you about reverting your revert. I know you are carrying out routine things in good faith and left a message, and so am I :) .

(Just for your reference, the page is at Wu Tsang)

Many thanks,

--1233 ( T / C 14:10, 30 March 2019 (UTC)

  • Hi User:1233! I am sorry, I'll be more careful in the future! It just looked suspicious due to the volume of the change and such. Thank you for reaching out to me (and for being understanding), I really appreciate it! :-) Rockstonetalk to me! 17:30, 30 March 2019 (UTC)
  • Do the tools give you the option of leaving an edit summary when reverting? If not, it would be good to report the issue to the people maintaining the tools. If they do, it's good to leave a short edit summary to explain why you are reverting the edit. Otherwise inexperienced issues may be confused about why the edit is happening, as they don't understand Wikipedia terminology. Anyway, happy editing! WhisperToMe (talk) 23:29, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

Thumbelina (1994 film)Edit

I'm sorry about my mistake in editing a page about Hans Christian Andersen's Thumbelina (1994) in its current change. I'm trying to extend the information box for this animated feature, proving that it was produced at Don Bluth Ireland Ltd. in Dublin, Ireland. But that was not the only problem that I'v caused on the both of us. There is a second problem as you'd understand. Not long ago, I have found the pictures of the maquette statues of Stanley, Gus and Rosie from Don Bluth's other animated film, A Troll in Central Park (1994), at WorthPoint. They were made by character sculptor Kent Melton, and from their bottoms, the writing reveals that Troll was about completed in 1992 (two years before it was released), the time when Thumbelina was also in production at Bluth's Ireland-based animation company. And as further evidence, more of character sculptures by Melton were seen during the studio tour on the 1994 BAFTA Production Awards television program. And the final problem is that the page about Troll is missing a production section with information about how it was made, as you could see from the opening and closing credits. — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 04:22, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

  • User: Hey, no worries! If you want to reverse my changes you can. Alternatively, you can press preview on the changes and make sure that the infobox looks right. I can also help you with the infobox if you want! Either way, it's not big deal. I really appreciate you reaching out to me, and I'm sorry if I sounded hostile! :-) Rockstonetalk to me! 06:15, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

Criteria for the rollbacks on edible plants of Uruguay category articles?Edit

You know, almost all, if not all of those plants, do have an edible part.

A clear example would be Psidium cattleyanum or butia capitata.

If i trust in your knowledge on this matter, then there must be just another reason why you did the rollbacks and I wan't to know all of them.

I started the Category:Edible plants of Uruguay as a personal investigation more than just editing wikipedia.

I already know what Wikipedia is not, and I thought that my contrasting of articles was encyclopedic enough.

I thought that my investigation would be more useful inside a Wikipedia category than inside some notes just to myself.

But now that I see the rollbacks, I dont want to loose more time.

Then can I keep populating the category with pertaining articles, consciously reviewed or I keeṕ my notes to myself? -- (Preceding unsigned comment by User:

  • Hi User: - you can undo my rollbacks if you want -- I tried only to rollback the posts that you made which added them to the edible plants category without any indication in the article that they were edible. I would suggest that you make sure that whenever you list a plant as edible, that you have references backing that up. Rockstonetalk to me! 21:59, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

Hi: Thanks for keeping an eye on this. Just yesterday, afer a WP:SVI, this user was fired from es:wp. He's the same user doing this kind of editions here on en.wp. As you may see, he's very problematic and was blocked several times before. Obviously the category it's useless. Thanks again.--Fixertool (talk) 21:35, 13 April 2019 (UTC)

    • Hey- you're welcome. I thought it wasn't right but I didn't feel like fighting him about it since while the category is useless, as far as disruptive behavior goes it's very mild. If I see it in the future though, I will revert. Rockstonetalk to me! 06:12, 14 April 2019 (UTC)

Edit of John Singleton PageEdit

Hello Rockstone. I'm new to Wikipedia. I've been asked by The John Singleton Group to make some changes to his Wiki. It's not testing and I noticed I didn't update the summary which I will do from now on.

Some information needs to be corrected and they would like some content removed.

I've made a couple of recent edits with summaries.

Am I good to go? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thecooter (talkcontribs) 06:23, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

  • Hi, User:Thecooter! Are you a paid editor? This Wikipedia policy requires that such conflict of interests be disclosed. As far as content being removed, if the material is simply unflattering then it should not be, but if the material is false or no longer relevant then that should be okay. New information should be cited, especially for a living person. Thanks! Rockstonetalk to me! 06:29, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Stop itEdit

Stop blanking the user and talk pages of banned editors. That someone is banned doesn't mean they cease to exist; there's nothing in Wikipedia:Banning policy to suggest that this is policy, and your repeatedly claiming "per policy" doesn't make it so. ‑ Iridescent 08:31, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi Iridescent, I think I misunderstood the policy. It seems like almost all of the banned users had their user and talk pages blanked (look through Category:Banned_Wikipedia_users and you'll see that most of them just have their ban template and nothing more), so I assumed it was policy. This is my mistake, and I'm sorry!
I went ahead and restored the ban template so it's visible on User:Carolmooredc, but I didn't blank it this time. In the future, I won't blank user and talk pages of banned editors. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding! Rockstonetalk to me! 16:02, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

You are free to edit the content of User:Rockstone35/list of banned users during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. The link you tried to enter to Davenbelle doesn't work. - Please find a better way or restore the diff template (which also doesn't work) which the user taught me to code. At least that doesn't work in a more elegant way ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:22, 12 April 2019 (UTC)

No worries Gerda Arendt... just to clarify, do you want me to keep it in this style then? Thanks. Rockstonetalk to me! 18:40, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
yes please - I love this image --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:28, 12 April 2019 (UTC)

he took it --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:14, 13 April 2019 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt -- I just noticed that! Do you want the old style to be kept for all ban templates from now on? I feel like linking to the archive makes more sense. Rockstonetalk to me! 07:08, 13 April 2019 (UTC)
I really don't care about other users, and arbcom asks for diffs, not links to archives, because archives can be changed. It would be nice for his many "incarnations", though, in case they were changed. The image features prominently in our sad list, with a poem attached "Letting go of the past", and now we miss the poet also. - Takes a daily new effort to let go. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:17, 13 April 2019 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt -- If Arbcom prefers diffs, then it probably makes more sense if I stay doing that. I think I'll just keep whatever the current link says. If there is no link, then I'll do the archive just because it's easier to look up... That's really sad. Is there any chance these users will come back? :'( Rockstonetalk to me! 07:22, 13 April 2019 (UTC)
You never know. Some come and go, and I then don't switch every time. Some die. Some are banned, and this particular one because he wanted it so, - I have little hope there. Many came back though, see lower part of the list. - The list is not to everybody's liking (how dare we miss banned users), but in case of interest, see what Wehwalt wrote on its talk, next to an image he took in "memory of the scuttled, the banned, and those who have just given up", about friendship. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:33, 13 April 2019 (UTC)
One thing I've learned going through the list of banned users is that a lot of them really aren't bad people. In many cases it's just that tensions flare, two people get really upset at each other, and it boils out of control. I don't blame you for missing him. Rockstonetalk to me! 16:09, 13 April 2019 (UTC)

Hello, you're not an admin, why are you trying to make decisions and or giving opinions on this noticeboard ? Please stop, it's not your concern. - FlightTime Phone (open channel) 15:40, 20 April 2019 (UTC)

  • @FlightTime Phone: -- There's nothing requiring me to be an admin in order to give opinions. I'm not making decisions, neither am I deleting notices, or otherwise acting like an admin. I'm just inserting my two cents, which I will continue to do. Please do not delete my comments on that noticeboard. That's no bueno. Thanks. Rockstonetalk to me! 16:45, 20 April 2019 (UTC)

Just so you know pings don't work when added to a previous post. Even if you resign it the ping system considers it a post that has already been made. You have to make a new post to the thread - although I wouldn't advise it in this case. MarnetteD|Talk 19:26, 20 April 2019 (UTC)

  • Thanks! I didn't realize that. Yeah, it's not worth doing that in this case. I'm not closing his reports or otherwise acting like an admin, just expressing my belief that the reported user is not a vandal. I understand he's upset, but I'm not criticizing him. I think what he's doing is in good faith. Rockstonetalk to me! 19:28, 20 April 2019 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – May 2019Edit

News and updates for administrators from the past month (April 2019).

  Guideline and policy news

  Technical news

  • XTools Admin Stats, a tool to list admins by administrative actions, has been revamped to support more types of log entries such as AbuseFilter changes. Two additional tools have been integrated into it as well: Steward Stats and Patroller Stats.

  • In response to the continuing compromise of administrator accounts, the Arbitration Committee passed a motion amending the procedures for return of permissions (diff). In such cases, the committee will review all available information to determine whether the administrator followed "appropriate personal security practices" before restoring permissions; administrators found failing to have adequately done so will not be resysopped automatically. All current administrators have been notified of this change.
  • Following a formal ratification process, the arbitration policy has been amended (diff). Specifically, the two-thirds majority required to remove or suspend an arbitrator now excludes (1) the arbitrator facing suspension or removal, and (2) any inactive arbitrator who does not respond within 30 days to attempts to solicit their feedback on the resolution through all known methods of communication.

  Guideline and policy news

  • An RfC seeks to clarify whether WP:OUTING should include information on just the English Wikipedia or any Wikimedia project.
  • An RfC on WT:RfA concluded that Requests for adminship and bureaucratship are discussions seeking to build consensus.
  • An RfC proposal to make the templates for discussion (TfD) process more like the requested moves (RM) process, i.e. "as a clearinghouse of template discussions", was closed as successful.

  Technical news

  • The CSD feature of Twinkle now allows admins to notify page creators of deletion if the page had not been tagged. The default behavior matches that of tagging notifications, and replaces the ability to open the user talk page upon deletion. You can customize which criteria receive notifications in your Twinkle preferences: look for Notify page creator when deleting under these criteria.
  • Twinkle's d-batch (batch delete) feature now supports deleting subpages (and related redirects and talk pages) of each page. The pages will be listed first but use with caution! The und-batch (batch undelete) option can now also restore talk pages.

Your edit was userpage vandalism. I'm sorry you're angry at Fram and pressing keys on your keyboard alleviates your unhappiness, but I shall not allow userpage vandalism. Chris Troutman (talk) 20:31, 21 June 2019 (UTC)

  • I'm sorry, what? I'm not angry at Fram. I'm categorizing them as a banned Wikipedia user, which they are. It's not vandalism, either. I made an unfortunate typo though. Rockstonetalk to me! 20:33, 21 June 2019 (UTC)

I've full protected the page for a year because of the edit warring over it. There's no need for this and the WMF can add it if they like. TonyBallioni (talk) 20:39, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
I saw that. I didn't really think it was edit warring, as I didn't undo the changes Bradv made. But I'm okay with this too. Rockstonetalk to me! 20:41, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, it was less you and more that we had three experienced editors doing and undoing a change. I also expect someone else would have tried it again and it would have started up again, so this stops whatever until Fram returns. TonyBallioni (talk) 20:45, 21 June 2019 (UTC)
Seems fair enough. This has already been a clusterfudge these past 10 days; no need to add this into the mix. Rockstonetalk to me! 20:47, 21 June 2019 (UTC)

Okay, now if she is saying abusive things, that is different. CLCStudent (talk) 18:11, 22 July 2019 (UTC)

She still thinks I’m a sockpuppeter. She still won’t say anything and I honestly think she’s angry with me after I called her out. What I’ve been saying to her is the truth and the user who she thinks is me is properly someone else using a similar IP address. I’ve never been blocked on this account and I haven’t made any at all since I’ve made this one. I might as well just leave her alone now before any other problems occur. Admins and the broader community are encouraged to leave feedback on the talk page.
  • The new page reviewer right is bundled with the admin tool set. Many admins regularly help out at Special:NewPagesFeed, but they may not be aware of improvements, changes, and new tools for the Curation system. Stay up to date by subscribing here to the NPP newsletter that appears every two months, and/or putting the reviewers' talk page on your watchlist.

Since the introduction of temporary user rights, it is becoming more usual to accord the New Page Reviewer right on a probationary period of 3 to 6 months in the first instance. This avoids rights removal for inactivity at a later stage and enables a review of their work before according the right on a permanent basis.

  Technical news

  • Editors using the mobile website on Wikipedia can opt-in to new advanced features via your settings page. This will give access to more interface links, special pages, and tools.
  • The advanced version of the edit review pages (recent changes, watchlist, and related changes) now includes two new filters. These filters are for "All contents" and "All discussions". They will filter the view to just those namespaces.

A Dobos torte for you!Edit

7&6=thirteen () has given you a Dobos torte to enjoy! Seven layers of fun because you deserve it.

To give a Dobos torte and spread the WikiLove, just place {{subst:Dobos Torte}} on someone else's talkpage, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend.

@Melvis Glez: Mi no habla español.

Mira aquí: Rockstonetalk to me! 20:02, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – October 2019Edit

News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2019).

  Guideline and policy news

  • Following a discussion, a new criterion for speedy category renaming was added: C2F: One eponymous article, which applies if the category contains only an eponymous article or media file, provided that the category has not otherwise been emptied shortly before the nomination. The default outcome is an upmerge to the parent categories.

  Technical news

  • As previously noted, tighter password requirements for Administrators were put in place last year. Wikipedia should now alert you if your password is less than 10 characters long and thus too short.

  • The Community Tech team has been working on a system for temporarily watching pages, and welcomes feedback.

2019 US Banknote ContestEdit

  US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here
