Rock wikiproject edit

I would like to thank you for helping me out with the wikiproject. Before you came along, I was considering to give up on the project. Now with your help the project is doing much better than ever and has attracted more users than ever. Once again many thanks. :D DavidJJJ 19:27, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • Thanks a lot. Although this is not relevant to wikipedia, do you have a myspace account. If you do, I will add you as a friend. Also, could you send invites to the punk wikiproject participants. Basically, do it with all subgenres related to rock. Cheers.:D DavidJJJ 20:47, 18 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi there thanks for the invite! I have been away for a while but will join pretty soon - just setting up my new pc. thanks for the invite!!!!

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Dawson-college-cp-1850805.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading File:Dawson-college-cp-1850805.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Radio stations edit

I don't doubt that his changes are being made in good faith, but they still can't stand as written. Quite apart from the wikification issue, there are other stylistic problems with his edits that can't be left as is — for instance, although radio stations with an active rock format tend to brand themselves "New Rock", the name of their format is active rock, and that's the name that has to be used on Wikipedia. Secondly, we can't give a station's brand name precedence over its legal call sign as the primary name of the station; we note both, certainly, but we can't pretend the brand name is the more important identifier as his edits do. Plus he seems determined to pretend that CFHK is directly licensed to London, which it isn't — it's licensed to St. Thomas and merely targets London since that's the largest market within its broadcast area. GA message left on Talk:Dream Theater edit

I saw the message you left on Talk:Dream Theater. I listed the article as a GA candidate a week or two ago when I discovered it had been demoted from FA status, but whoever reviewed it decided that it wasn't GA material (see here... which I personally disagree with, but whatever). Was this simply a case of a crotchety reviewer being too hard on the article? I think it certainly deserves GA status, so is it as simple as just re-listing it for GA status?   plattopustalk 16:12, 6 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image:Matthews-Bill.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Matthews-Bill.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Abu badali (talk) 17:50, 10 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks edit

Thanks for the user prompt. I was a logged user long ago. But I really just like RC patrolling and reverting vandalism. And you don't need to be logged in to do that. Actually, I am among a group of librarians who all like to hit the RC link and seek out vandalism. We have close to a thousand PCs here at the university and, depending on which one I/we sit at...the IP's change frequently. Some of them are static. And we have built a positive "IP reputation" around some of these "156.34" addys. I happen to know that some of them have been whitelisted on the VandalProof network and we feel that's a positive thing. In the end, Wiki was built, and will continue to be built by anon editors. We, as a group, like to pick off the naughty users(especially the ones attacking the music related pages) and, as I said, you don't need a username to do that. It has it's fun moments. Admin Wiki-Alf has welcomed me and invited me to set up a username at least a dozen times. I've chatted with him enough now that he'll remember the "156.34" team. And, since I have your attention, we've seen the positive contributions you have made to Wikipedia and so I will take the time to say keep up the good work! Have a nice day Reaper X. We'll see you around. 156.34.223.68 03:16, 17 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Pictures edit

I've had the pictures for a long time, and I think they're free use, but it doesn't say on the information where they're from. So I guess I'll look for more pictures, see if any of them are free.Nukleoptra 11:11, 17 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re:WP 1.0 Bot and list stats edit

I went tinkering around with the Rock music articles by quality statistics, as someone added a list parameter to the {{WPRock}} template. This sorts list articles into Category:List-Class rock music articles/ The bot went and made this edit, removing that parameter from the stats. Is there a way to correct this? *May I also ask that you respond on MY talk page? -- Reaper X 16:16, 17 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

The bot does not accept List-Class or other classes beyond the default. See Wikipedia_talk:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Index#WP_1.0_bot_and_article_class for more details. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 16:33, 17 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Extra Tracklisting edit

Hey, I'd be happy to do this, but I'm not sure I follow quite what you're after. By the way, I've just thrown together a thing myself, it's to go at the bottom of albums. Have a look: Template:singles (talk · links · edit). it's so you can list what singles were released as original releases from an album (i.e. on Abbey Rd, you'd have Yesterday and Come Together and such).

Anyway, as I said, I'm happy to help. Comment my talk page with exactly what you want and I'll see what i can do.

--lincalinca 11:59, 19 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've adjusted it. What you need to do (and it needs to be added to the usage segment) is us a "Type" tag. I've adjusted Mind's Eye so you can see it implemented. Hope that helps!

Extra tracklisting edit

I've done that. i'm pretty sure it works. The category's already got 720 pages in it. That's going to take some work ironing out, but at least the framework's there now, so hopefully that means that it'll be tidied up before long. I won't be able to mill through all of them, but hopefully the fact that it shows on the page that it's a part of that category might prompt people who create the pages to begin with to change it.

"City and Colour is a culmination of work over many years, (Green in an interview with Katharine Foster), "I've been writing stuff since I was 14 or 15 years old. A bunch of the ones on the album, I wrote when I was 18 or 19, and then a few in my early 20s, and then the rest in the last year". He also explains his reasoning for using the pseudonym of "City and Colour", "It always made me feel uneasy whenever I thought about putting the album out under the name Dallas Green"."
The words in bold are the problem bits. It's frustrating because it sounds so wrong lol.

U2 ALBUM SALES edit

I WILL FIND THE LINK ON WHERE IT SAYS THAT THEY HAVE SOLD A 146 MILLION ALBUMS AND NOT 170. I'M A BIG U2 FAN BUT THAT NUMBER IS JUST WAY TOO HIGH. HOW CAN YOU BE SO SURE THAT THATS RIGHT IT'S NOT FROM THE BANDS WEBSITE AND PLUS THERE ARE ALOT OF ARTICLES THAT HAVE THROWN OUT LOTS OF NUMBERS LIKE 125, 130, AND 140 MILLION ALBUMS. I DO KNOW THAT BACK IN 2000 THEY RECEIVED AN AWARD FOR SELLING 100 MILLION ALBUMS SINCE THEN THEY RELEASED TWO BEST OF ALBUMS ONE OF WHICH U218 SINGLES WHICH HASN'T SOLD WELL IN THE U.S AND WORLDWIDE THE OTHER ONE ONLY WENT PLATINUM IN THE U.S. AND TWO STUDIO ALBUMS ATYCLB SOLD 4 MILL IN U.S. AND ABOUT 13MILL WORLDWIDE HTDAB WENT 3X PLATINUM IN THE U.S. AND ABOUT 10 WORLDWIDE SO DO THE MATH.

Sorry for using your talk page as a discussion forum, ReaperX, but I have to respond to 24.13.101.150's comment above. 24.13.101.150, you definitely seem to know what you're talking about; however, since Paul Vallely is a well-known writer and The Independent is a reputable source, you can't change the number of albums sold without finding a better "more official" reference, and replacing the reference. I have seen the discussion at the Interference forums here, but you simply can't change the Wikipedia article based on your own speculation -- see No Original Research. Fair use rationale for Image:Queen_-_The_Crown_Jewels.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Queen_-_The_Crown_Jewels.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. The Sunshine Man 19:57, 23 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
