April - National Contribution MonthEdit

Good day Radagast,

During the month of April, Wikimedia Canada is preparing the National Contribution Month, and we are looking for experienced contributors to organize a contribution day (or half-day) in their region.

Contribution days are activities where Wikipedia's contributors, students, or anybody interested in contributing to Wikipedia meets together to collectively improve a predetermined theme. This meetings generally take place in library where references are easy of access, but can be organized in any communal room. Beside improving articles, a goal of this participatory workshops is to initiate neophyte in the cooperative contribution of Wikipedia.

If you are interested in organizing or participating in a contribution day in your region, communicate witht he national team on the project's talk page. The exact agenda of each local event is left to the discretion of the organizer. Help is available for the organization from contributors who already organized these type of days, so don't be worried. If you have any questions or want more information, don't hesitate to contact us.

Ion LRT route diagramEdit

What is the "Waterloo Spur" and how does it relate to the Ion LRT? Is there an additional line planned there? Secondarywaltz (talk) 19:17, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

It's the lightly-used rail line that currently runs through Uptown, Waterloo Park, the east edge of UW campus and north beyond Northfield to Elmira. Its only real use today is by the occasional freight car to Elmira industry, and by the Waterloo Central Railway. It's owned by the Region meaning it can be easily converted into primarily light rail use. It will remain accessible by freight even after Ion is built, hence my references to it in the diagram. Radagast (talk) 19:23, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
Should its relevance be mention in the article? Secondarywaltz (talk) 19:31, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
Might be a good idea, yeah. I'll think on that. Radagast (talk) 19:55, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
You could just add what you told me. That summary above would do for now. Secondarywaltz (talk) 21:04, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
Actually did a wholesale update to the 'Route' section, which really needed it anyway. Look good? Radagast (talk) 21:26, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

Requested move for subway lines in TorontoEdit

Hello there. I noticed that you opposed a move request for the following pages:

In light of discussion after your comments were submitted, I would like to request that you re-visit the move discussion and re-evaluate your position based on recent discussion. I am not trying to push you to change your answer, I only wish to have the discussion reflect all the facts, and try and facilitate some consensus. Eglinton Crosstown stationsEdit

New articles for these stations have now been created. I think we should we just follow the lead on this and help with those articles - which would eventually need to be created. I will update with info from your list, and mark it when I have done that. I have added a couple of location photos and could probably find more. Secondarywaltz (talk) 03:43, 31 August 2014 (UTC)

Map opinionEdit

Hello there. I have spruced up the TTC subway map mildly, only adding accessible stations and washrooms to it. Do you think I should replace the map in place with this or leave it as is? Craftwerker (talk) 15:42, 2 May 2015 (UTC)

I'm not sure it benefits from them, to be honest, particularly at a typical scale. Radagast (talk) 02:52, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
OK - I thought so too, particularly for the disability indicators. I will leave the main map as is. Thanks! Craftwerker (talk) 09:50, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
Hi again. Please take another peek - I enlarged the disability icons and also the text throughout ... it is more readable but perhaps looks...bloated? ;) Craftwerker (talk) 02:38, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
Definitely a boost to readability all around. Still not certain if the icons are necessary - perhaps open a discussion on the hosting article's talk? Radagast (talk) 04:18, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
Thanks -- OK! Craftwerker (talk) 13:03, 4 May 2015 (UTC)
Hi there. BTW, the future map has received some online attention! :x Craftwerker (talk) 14:10, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

Kitchener stationEdit

On the Template:Ion LRT route diagram you have linked from "Central Station" to Kitchener railway station without any explanation for this name. Do you have some information and references you can add to the railway station article? Secondarywaltz (talk) 19:02, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Mainly Kitchener railway station#Future, but more robust links would be a good idea. I'll look into that when I have a bit more time. Radagast (talk) 19:05, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
But you changed the name to "Central Station". Where did you get that? Secondarywaltz (talk) 19:12, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
[1], as I noted in the edit log. Radagast (talk) 19:35, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. There are station designs being revealed today. They don't seem to know what the names are and change them every time there is a new announcement. I think the CBC mistook the generic "Cental Stations", meaning all the stations in the cental area, for a proper name. Transit hub seems to be still used. Secondarywaltz (talk) 19:50, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
It's in other media as well. The original proposal was 'King Station' which was then changed to 'Central Station - Innovation District' at the prompting of Kitchener Mayor Vrbanovic. Radagast (talk) 20:22, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Hello, I'm General Ization. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Hannah Hart, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source, so I removed it. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! General Ization Talk 01:01, 21 September 2015 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open!Edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Ion stationsEdit

Will you be producing articles for Ion in the same naming format of "Name LRT station" as used for the Eglinton Crosstown? Perhaps they not going to be substantial enough structures with sufficient references to deserve separate articles, and are simply like streetcar stops. I ask this because I noticed the picture you recently added of a station under construction. Let me know if you create those. Secondarywaltz (talk) 20:22, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

It's in my long-term plans but I'm intending to give it a bit more time until things are further along. The one I posted a picture of is one of about three right now with both tracks and platform pad; a few more have one or the other, and many more have neither. I'll try to keep you posted. Radagast (talk) 21:11, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
I've started a station list at User:Secondarywaltz/Transit. You are welcome to take that as you own. Secondarywaltz (talk) 19:03, 17 December 2015 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Martha Jones.jpgEdit

Thanks for uploading File:Martha Jones.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:41, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

Corduroy road?Edit

Hi Radagast,

I see that you took some of the great photos used in the Ion rapid transit article. Any chance you'd want to take some photos of the corduroy road? I think it would be cool to have some available, but I guess it won't be visible for long. Thanks - Themightyquill (talk) 08:24, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

I won't be able to get to that part of Waterloo myself anytime soon, I'm afraid. However, I do know some folks who have been to see it; I'll see if I can persuade any of them to share any pics they have under an appropriate licence. Radagast (talk) 13:03, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

Ion referencesEdit

Have you looked for references? The one you have been adding to each station article is what I found. Here http://www.kitchener.ca/en/livinginkitchener/Planning-Around-Rapid-Transit.asp are more sources of information for some of the stations. Click on the links for each station. There is much more for you to find, if you only look. Secondarywaltz (talk) 18:51, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

Let's reduce the environmental impact of the Wikimedia movement!Edit

Hi Radagast (great username, by the way!), please allow me to get in touch because you have stated sympathy with environmental causes on your user page. I would like to invite you to check out the Environmental impact project page on Meta, where I am trying to create some momentum to reduce the environmental impact of the Wikimedia movement. My first goal is to have all the Wikimedia servers run on renewable energy. Maybe you could show your support for this project as well by adding your signature here? Long "e" soundEdit

Which sound is denoted as "long 'e'" in the pronunciation hint for the word Weber in the Weber Street article? Did later corrections do this knowledge a favour? I am just curious if the interpretation of the term "long 'e'" differs across readers. Also, I wonder if a credible source could be found to the history of naming the street. Cheers and thanks for adding the knowledge. --ilgiz (talk) 01:19, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

The IPA pronunciation that's currently there accurately reflects the local pronunciation, yes. As for a source, that might be tricky; I'm neither a linguist or a historian, so I wouldn't know where to look. Certainly any local news stories in video or audio format that mention the street will use this pronunciation. Radagast (talk) 05:21, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

Caught by an open proxy block but this host or IP is not an open proxy. The IP is apparently 207.35.68.17, per my editing denial page. I do not know if this is a proxy or not, or what type, but it is a corporate network. Radagast (talk) 23:33, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:10, 7 June 2018 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of File:GO Transit Wisconsin.jpgEdit

The file File:GO Transit Wisconsin.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unused logo with no article used, it's also can't move to commons because of an unused logo will be deleted as of out of project scope.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
