The English Wiktionary is having a discussion at wikt:Wiktionary:Grease pit/2013/November about best how to re-organize our language metadata for ease of editing. (Currently we have a single data-module that maps all known language-tags to information about language-names, script info, diacritic-removal rules, and so on.) Since we use the language metadata on 3,544,079 pages (about 92.6% of our pages), and edit them pretty often, I think it would be good if a MediaWiki dev could take a look and say whether there are any performance considerations we should be keeping in mind, whether there are any approaches that are better than others, etc.

- Hi equazcion, no worries. I'm not familiar with the VP policies. Can we just edit/remove our own posts? I have no problem if you remove your comments and I edit mine accordingly to make things clear. However, I don't want that anybody blames me for this, pointing to some wiki page explaining that actions like these should be avoided. Sorry for the paranoia, every time I put a foot in w:VP-T I get as response either silence or a rant. :) I'd rather be cautious.--Qgil (talk) 06:56, 8 December 2013 (UTC)

I'm fine with people blaming me; but I've done this before and haven't gotten complaints so long as the other participants in the exchange are in agreement. Dear Mr. Qqil, about one month ago i try to login to phabricator website but i couldn't do it. I noticed that the e-mail I'm registered with is wrong. I cannot create another account because my present account is connected to the one on wikipedia. - Hi LikeLifer. Are you trying to login clicking the MediaWiki sunflower button at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/auth/start/ ? If this is the case, then I need to know your Phabricator username in order to delete it and bring you back to square one. Earth system science edit
Dear Qgil-WMF -
You long ago made a great contribution to the article on Earth system science, when you added a section called "Inspiration in the Gaia theory." I wanted you to be aware of current activities involving it: everything you did with that section was removed completely by Toby Tyrrell back in November of 2014, with a brief comment that it was irrelevant. Tyrrell is a leading critic of Gaia theory, with a book purporting to "disprove" it. I found this to be an egregious conflict of interest, and complained about it when I noticed it early this summer. I then wrote a new and more in-depth section based on yours - but with your Amsterdam Declaration section made into its own separate section, etc. I also added a lot of non-Gaia material to the whole ESS entry.
Anyhow, the Gaia material has been continuously removed and the subject of more or less constant edit warring since. If you care about this material, it could surely use more editors who don't exactly want to expunge "Gaia" from the discussion!! Very best, Terradactyl (talk) 02:01, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

Community Relations edit
I see you've read my comments on the Community Relations talk page at Meta. Another outdated page is your userpage, which doesn't mention your role in Community Relations, or anything about whatever it is that Community Relations does. As you may have seen on @Katherine (WMF):'s talk page, she has said that responses to posts on her talk page will come from Community Relations. She also said that "They [Community Relations] brief me weekly on what’s going on, and highlight when there’s something I should be engaging with directly". I think it would be helpful to the Community to know the content of these briefings, not least so we can be assured that Community Relations is in tune with the Community. As it is, almost none of us know anything about what it does. I've been on Wikipedia for years and the first I heard of it was Katherine's post. DuncanHill (talk) 09:14, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
- Hi DuncanHill, the Community Relations team supports other teams and is rarely on the spotlight, and this is fine. Also, we had other names before: Technical Collaboration, Community Liaisons, Developer Relations... But this doesn't really matter. To your question, our priority is to work on a process to collect community news that the Foundation shouldn't miss. This process should be public, and I agree with you on the usefulness of having volunteers involved and able to verify that the news selected are "in tune" with the communities interests and priorities. Our executive team, Katherine included, would receive a weekly summary of these news (maybe a selection if there are too many, they can always access the full list of weekly news). I want to stress that the solution to your concerns is not to know what exactly is being brought to Katherine's attention alone, but what is brought to the attention of the Foundation teams and their executives. Hi Qgil. Just as a follow-up to this discussion, I understood from your table analogy that I might have done something untoward in pinging the responsible WMF staff member. If so could you please explain where I went wrong and what a better way to go about drawing WMF staff's attention would be in future (if that's appropriate at all)? - Hi Joe! In the table analogy (and in the actual discussion it refers to) there is nothing wrong about the person starting the conversation and the person pinging (asking directly). I just wanted to stress how addressing a reasonable request enters in conflict with ignoring disrespectful comments. What could be a rather practical conversation clarifying what happened and why and how to improve... becomes basically yet another scenario for confrontation. I picked this example not because I see in it a strong violation of civility, but precisely because it is a simple and small example, easy to isolate from Big Ongoing Discussions. Your comment is perfectly ok, and I hope there is a time and a place when we can discuss about it just normally, cordially. Also thank you for reaching out and giving me a chance to clarify my words.
