Community Wishlist Survey – NPP needs you – Vote NOW

• Community Wishlist Voting takes place 16 to 30 November for the Page Curation and New Pages Feed improvements, and other software requests. The NPP community is hoping for a good turnout in support of the requests to Santa for the tools we need. This is very important as we have been asking the Foundation for these upgrades for 4 years.

If this proposal does not make it into the top ten, it is likely that the tools will be given no support at all for the foreseeable future. So please put in a vote today.

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, Power~enwiki. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Richard Neal birthplace

You recently reverted my correction in the page for Richard Neal. I am not sure how this was not constructive as it corrected an obvious mistake in the article. I provided a citation to a source that is also used for other statements in the page and reviewed the guidelines on Biographies of Living Persons prior to editing. I didn't revert anything, an IP editor did that [2] before I got to it. I gave you a warning for your change of Trump to Drumpf. As I said in the message Don't change "Trump" to "Drumpf", and make sure that any browser extensions that do this automatically are disabled when editing Wikipedia. That said, He and his two younger sisters were raised in Springfield is sufficient to claim he was "a Springfield native", even if his place of birth was Worcester. power~enwiki (π, ν) 21:23, 13 November 2018 (UTC)

The situation at WP:RSN

A few months ago, Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources/Perennial sources was created. While it has become accepted by the community fairly quickly, it only has implicit consensus to exist. Right now, a variety of discussions regarding how to handle British tabloid newspapers (including the infamous Daily Mail) are ongoing at that noticeboard.

I don't think any of them are currently going to get anywhere. They are trying to solve multiple different problems, all with the symptom of editors over-using British tabloid newspapers as sources. For straight news coverage, other newspapers are generally more reliable sources. For entertainment gossip, we mostly try to keep it out altogether. For sports gossip, likewise.

There are also certain concerns about the accuracy of certain editorial staffs. Wikipedia is a historical undertaking; if the project finds it necessary to determine that the Daily Mail from 2009-2015 had a preponderance of deliberately false stories, it might be worth blacklisting that time period. There's no real way for a community of amateurs to determine that in real-time.

So, I support explicitly revoking the Daily Mail RFC, with the note that very little will change as a result. From a site policy perspective, it is superseded by better ways of handling problematic sources. From the perspective of future editors, they likely should be better educated in the processes of Wikipedia if they try to cite anything to the Daily Mail. power~enwiki (π, ν) 01:39, 6 December 2018 (UTC)

Why revert? (Trying to learn for a college assignment, not trying to be mean!)

I'm trying to learn the ways of Wikipedia for a college assignment. I understand that some people have been on here a long time and thus have more privileges than others. I edited the color yellow and added the RGB code. Almost immediately it was reverted. You commented on your revert stating that it was "Still not an improvement". Why is that not an improvement? I'm trying to understand how new people, can rarely add new stuff without it almost immediately getting reverted? Why is adding a globally know color code, not an improvement? I'm tiring to understand the rhetoric and the hierarchy of Wikipedia, not trying to be disrespectful. Also thanks for the cookies! Inthenameofrhetoric (talk) 02:03, 6 December 2018 (UTC)

The infobox (the thing on the right side of your screen in the normal view, or after the first paragraph in the mobile view) is where the RGB code for yellow is already listed. I understand people being able to revert. But why do some people have the ability to shut down and block users after a few edits? Less good news, and an appeal for some help

The backlog is now approaching 5,000, and still rising. There are around 640 holders of the NPR flag, most of whom appear to be inactive. The 10% of the reviewers who do 90% of the work could do with some support especially as some of them are now taking a well deserved break.

At #1 position, the Community Wishlist poll closed on 3 December with a resounding success for NPP, reminding the WMF and the volunteer communities just how critical NPP is to maintaining a clean encyclopedia and the need for improved tools to do it. Deaths in November 2018

Hi. As (I believe) the admin who entered page protection for the above while it was the "primary month" page in the Deaths project, please could I ask that you revisit in order to remove page protection, which is never kept for any monthly archived pages. The fact that page protection was added due to page moves contrary to consensus should not mean that it is maintained ad infinitum, as each and every archived page is denied that luxury. And, annoyingly, TheMagikBot keeps coming back to add a padlock symbol where none should really be in a scheme of consistently applied rules. Thank you and a Happy New Year. Thanks to you both (I must have misread the edit history, apologies to this page owner!). The page protection was put in place to prevent a one-off issue with one editor who decided to move the page when he had not even discussed it for consensus sake. That protection went on top of the regular anti-vandalism protection which happens every year for the "primary" page. Thanks once again, and I've noted the protocol for the Bot too. Technical issues on vital article list

I have noticed that we have some mistakes at templates and other things on the VA. Mark Twain has template vital article-level 3 although actually he is at the level 4. Geoffrey Chaucer have template vital article-level 4 and he is not listed at the level 3 but at the level 4 he is marked as "level 3". These issues are in other sections at 1-5 levels as well because of people when archive discuss not always mark these things in every level. Hansel and Gretel recently have been have removed while they were not on on the list! If you check archives you find that we removed them two times. First time in 2016 in right way and this year we have started nomination while actually they should not be on the level 4 already. Is this possible to correct these issues by your bot? Cheers. The life-changing magic of tidying up

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Organizing (structure) is an open AfD. The article right now is an unsourced dictdef. However, trying to find a good article about the concept of the job Marie Kondo has is very difficult.

• Tidying Up is an article about an oil painting.
• Clean-up is an article about a topic in traditional animation.
• Professional organizing is over-run by promotional content about the "National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals".
• Neatness redirects to Orderliness, an unsourced dictionary entry.
• Organizing (management) is a pile of dogshit, entirely unsourced.
• Neither Housekeeping nor Homemaking (which seems to be on the same topic) really cover this in any depth.

Deleting my edit request on Google

@AnthonyLovesWikis: The directions say: This template must be followed by a complete and specific description of the request, that is, specify what text should be removed and a verbatim copy of the text that should replace it. "Please change X" is not acceptable and will be rejected; the request must be of the form "please change X to Y". I'll take your word for it that it would work against me, which, if true, is sad. But it kind of makes my point: no matter what I do or say people with a dispute history with me will find a way to interpret it in a negative way against me. Anyway, for the record, I had and still have the option to revert your revert of my friendly proposals, but, for the sake of community peace I'm choosing not to, for what it's worth. I just want people to either engage with me collegially, or ignore me. That's how I try to deal with others. I actually thought proposing such reminders for three different people would be better received than just focusing on one. Close of cycling CFD

Hi, I'm a bit surprised at your close of Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2018_November_25#Climbs_in_cycle_racing_in_... (purge any articles that don't have significant content about cycling) as (although, IMO, a step in the right direction) (1) that's not an option that was discussed in the CFD, (2) it leaves the categories in an unusual/unique state (I can't think of any other categories with inclusion criteria about "significant content"), (3) it begs the question of what "significant content" means (e.g. consider Vaalserberg which currently has a small uncited paragraph about cycling or Jaizkibel which currently has more content about hiking than about cycling), (4) what if the section about cycling is split off to a separate article?  Is another CFD requesting either listify+delete or limit to articles specifically about cycle racing the only way to fix this? @DexDor: The nomination said I propose removing the cycle racing cat tag from all the articles that aren't specifically about cycle racing - which is what I attempted to do. While some people supported deleting these categories entirely, I didn't see consensus for that. The French category has a lot of articles like Col du Petit Ballon, which is a road that was on the Tour de France once (so possibly shouldn't be in such a category), but there isn't any other content in that article. If there's a coherent reason to remove those types of articles, I don't see the CFD discussion as preventing that. power~enwiki (π, ν) 19:27, 8 January 2019 (UTC)

A quick clarification, please. In your view, has the closure been implemented already, or is it still a work in progress? If the latter, I would suggest listing the categories at WP:CFD/W/M so that they can be properly purged. I still see a lot of articles about landforms (mountains, hills, mountain passes, etc.) that are being trivially categorized because they happen to be on a cycle racing routing. I did not cat the article as "racial hoax" to mean that the event objectively was a hoax, merely that racial hoaxes are a signifint number of sources discussing if it is or is not a hoax, and therefore that cat is relevant. Speedy Deletion of ERA Prometheus

Hi!

It looks like this article nominated for G11 speedy deletion (and subsequently deleted 20 mins later) was made in error as it fails numerous clauses for "Unambiguous advertising or promotion" (G11).

1. "This applies to pages that are exclusively promotional..."

The article as written fails the EXCLUSIVITY stipulation as it discusses and educates readers on (a) the recent democratization of the tourbillon mechanism and (b) the exorbitant market price of the tourbillon mechanism and reasons for it being the case.

2. "The content could plausibly be replaced with text written from a neutral point of view..." I have made numerous edits to further "neutralize" the sentences and was still in this process of doing so. The edit history and activity of the article shows in and of itself that I am not only acting in good faith, but proves the plausibility that some of the content can be replaced with more neutral text.

3. "Any article that describes its subject from a neutral point of view does not qualify for this criterion." Most fundamentally, the claims made by the article are cited and quoted directly from the sources such as from The New York Times, Vogue, and Europa Star. My POV merely echoes these 3rd party and neutral sources.

It seems that "Wikipedia:Deletion guidelines for administrators" wasn't followed. Sadly giving an author no chance to reply to a speedy deletion is exceptionally unwelcoming and does not promote the mission of Wiki, but serves to dissuade future contributions. Please undelete this page and allow me to edit it.

2. If you admit the text wasn't neutral, you can't really object too much. If there weren't so many problems, I'd suggest you could request the text be restored to your userspace at WP:REFUND.
3. I can't check the links now, but based on my recollection, the "3rd party and neutral sources" don't actually talk about the watch. The same problem is found at the article on the company, where they talk about "microbrands" but don't talk about your company at all.
4. It seems you have a conflict of interest here.

1. There is no blatant marketing. These statements are taken from the NY Times and sources that show prices of the tourbillon mechanism. These statements and descriptions are matters of fact.
2. The text was an ongoing living document. You can see from the edit history that it was still and continually being refined. There were citations from the NY Times, Vogue, Crunchbase, and multiple blogs. There are article stubs with even less to show for in Wikipedia. Seems like you are specifically singling this article out...
3. There are multiple 3rd party sources that discuss the watch (Coolector, Kaminsky, LevityBall, Crunchbase) and/or discuss the type of watch it is and the market that it belongs to (New York Times, Bloomberg, Economist, Europa Star).
4. This isn't my company. But these are my articles and I know about microbrands and ecommerce.

In conclusion: Whether these articles stay or go, isn't the issue here. Wikipedia says to BE BOLD and you're telling me to keep quiet and not to "press this".

I fear you do this to other people...For the sake of this community their needs to be some checks and balances. So I will press this to the fullest degree and continue honoring the principles of Wikipedia.Izazii (talk) 00:12, 19 February 2019 (UTC)

Venezuela Al Día is generally a reliable source, and there are sometimes where it is the main source I can use to reference an edit, but it's not a main outlet such as others including Efecto Cocuyo, El Pitazo, El Estímulo, El Nacional or El Universal. If the question is that if the outlet can be trusted, I'd say it is alright and suggest to quote another reference alongside; however, I can't find the aforementioned red link. --Jamez42 (talk) 22:32, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

As I mentioned at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Titania McGrath I think your diagnosis of WP:TOOSOON was correct, so despite my !vote wasn't too unhappy with the outcome. But as I expected there has been a jump up in reports as her book gets close to publication. In particular The Times has now published three separate articles on her or her book: see [3], [4], and [5]. This raises a couple of questions on which I would appreciate your opinion: (1) do you think the AFD would have gone the other way with these sources? (2) is it too soon to try recreating the article? My personal guesses are "yes" and (given that articles created over previous deletions tend to get more scrutinised) "probably still too soon", but I would value a second opinion. Fair enough, I understand now. I'm aware of the running RFC, the reasons I was making these changes (and several other) are because:

a. Most page names have already been changed, those left are the exception,

b. I don't think there is an easy way to automate some mentions of the name "Macedonia" (in contrast e.g. with Categories that were already changed automatically) because instead of the country they may refer to Macedonia (Greece) or Macedonia (ancient kingdom) or even... fruit salads. :) So, the human factor is still needed (maybe I'm wrong in that and bots already have the upper hand).

• Two elements of CSD G6 have been split into their own criteria: R4 for redirects in the "File:" namespace with the same name as a file or redirect at Wikimedia Commons (Discussion), and G14 for disambiguation pages which disambiguate zero pages, or have "(disambiguation)" in the title but disambiguate a single page (Discussion).
• {{db-blankdraft}} was merged into G13 (Discussion)

Reminders

• NPR is not a binary keep / delete process. In many cases a redirect may be appropriate. More new features are being added to the feed, including the important red alert for previously deleted pages. This will only work if it is selected in your filters. Best is to 'select all'. Do take a moment to check out all the new features if you have not already done so. If anything is not working as it should, please let us know at NPR. There is now also a live queue of AfC submissions in the New Pages Feed. Feel free to review AfCs, but bear in mind that NPP is an official process and policy and is more important.

QUALITY of REVIEWING

Articles are still not always being checked thoroughly enough. If you are not sure what to do, leave the article for a more experienced reviewer. Please be on the alert for any incongruities in patrolling and help your colleagues where possible; report patrollers and autopatrolled article creators who are ostensibly undeclared paid editors. The displayed ORES alerts offer a greater 'at-a-glance' overview, but the new challenges in detecting unwanted new content and sub-standard reviewing do not necessarily make patrolling any easier, nevertheless the work may have a renewed interest factor of a different kind. A vibrant community of reviewers is always ready to help at NPR.

Backlog

The backlog is still far too high at between 7,000 and 8,000. Of around 700 user rights holders, 80% of the reviewing is being done by just TWO users. In the light of more and more subtle advertising and undeclared paid editing, New Page Reviewing is becoming more critical than ever.

Move to draft

NPR is triage, it is not a clean up clinic. This move feature is not limited to bios so you may have to slightly re-edit the text in the template before you save the move. Anything that is not fit for mainspace but which might have some promise can be draftified - particularly very poor English and machine and other low quality translations.

Notifying users

Remember to use the message feature if you are just tagging an article for maintenance rather than deletion. Otherwise articles are likely to remain perma-tagged. Many creators are SPA and have no intention of returning to Wikipedia. Use the feature too for leaving a friendly note note for the author of a first article you found well made or interesting. Many have told us they find such comments particularly welcoming and encouraging.

Admins are now taking advantage of the new time-limited user rights feature. If you have recently been accorded NPR, do check your user rights to see if this affects you. Depending on your user account preferences, you may receive automated notifications of your rights changes. Requests for permissions are not mini-RfAs. Helpful comments are welcome if absolutely necessary, but the bot does a lot of the work and the final decision is reserved for admins who do thorough research anyway.

The "report" links currently in the article are references, though they're not formatted as <ref> refs. More generally, all of the Pan American Games (and African Games) articles will get approved by NPP; so long as the article demonstrates the event exists (and the categories are correct) I've been approving them to get them out of the queue. Speedy keep

Hello, is it possible you could speedy keep Free Republic of Verdis?

It's pretty noticeable and many links have been sent in the article discussion showing notability including large amounts of real following on medias, trends on news sites and more. @Austronesier: Yes, it was a bulk run to change all the "Language" topics to "Society". With the addition of level-5, having "Language" as the one exception to (topic = page name) at level-4 was too complicated. Instead of reaching a magic 300 as it once did last year, the backlog approaching 6,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

This month's refresher course

Why I Hate Speedy Deleters, a 2008 essay by long since retired Ballonman, is still as valid today. Those of us who patrol large numbers of new pages can be forgiven for making the occasional mistake while others can learn from their 'beginner' errors. Worth reading.

Deletion tags

Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon (you will need to have 'Nominated for deletion' enabled for this in your filters) may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders using Twinkle. They require your further verification.

Paid editing

Please be sure to look for the tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. WMF policy requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines' (SNG). Alternatives to deletion

• Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves once more with notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
• Blank-and-Redirect is a solution anchored in policy. Please consider this alternative before PRODing or CSD. Note however, that users will often revert or usurp redirects to re-create deleted articles. Do regularly patrol the redirects in the feed.

Not English

• A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, and if they do have potential, tag as required, then move to draft. Modify the text of the template as appropriate before sending it.

Tools

Regular reviewers will appreciate the most recent enhancements to the New Pages Feed and features in the Curation tool, and there are still more to come. Due to the wealth of information now displayed by ORES, reviewers are strongly encouraged to use the system now rather than Twinkle; it will also correctly populate the logs.

Stub sorting, by SD0001: A new script is available for adding/removing stub tags. See User:SD0001/StubSorter.js, It features a simple HotCat-style dynamic search field. Many of the reviewers who are using it are finding it an improvement upon other available tools.

Assessment: The script at User:Evad37/rater makes the addition of Wikiproject templates extremely easy. New page creators rarely do this. Reviewers are not obliged to make these edits but they only take a few seconds. They can use the Curation message system to let the creator know what they have done.

DannyS712 bot III is now patrolling certain categories of uncontroversial redirects. Curious? Check out its patrol log.

Particle.io page

I created the particle.io page because it's one of the largest players in iot, but mainly so information could be captured about its products, not the company. I see that that's not what the page ended up like. I'd like to edit that page to reflect my original intention but I'm not sure that's ok since I'm not that versed on wiki meta stuff. Thanks for the guidance, but on the indicated page I found no button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". On Sept 4, 2019 this article was deleted, despite my request to delay teh discussion and any deletion at least until Spet 7, 2019, due to my holidays. After my return I relisted the deleted article having added further numerous references from Albania and across the world (including China) showing the notibility of the person's work across the globe. The deletion of the relisted article (perhaps on Sept 10 or 11, 2019) was not preceded by any discussion, which is surprising.

As you suggested I attempted to regain the text of the deleted relisted article, but there seems to be no trace of it left. I have no clue how to regain the text.

New Page Review newsletter November 2019

This newsletter comes a little earlier than usual because the backlog is rising again and the holidays are coming very soon.

Getting the queue to 0

There are now 818 holders of the New Page Reviewer flag! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog but it's still roughly less than 10% doing 90% of the work. Now it's time for action.
Exactly one year ago there were 'only' 3,650 unreviewed articles, now we will soon be approaching 7,000 despite the growing number of requests for the NPR user right. If each reviewer soon does only 2 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by every reviewer doing only 1 review every 2 days - that's only a few minutes work on the bus on the way to the office or to class! Let's get this over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Coordinator

Admin Barkeep49 has been officially invested as NPP/NPR coordinator by a unanimous consensus of the community. This is a complex role and he will need all the help he can get from other experienced reviewers.

• It is now possible to select new pages by date range. This was requested by reviewers who want to patrol from the middle of the list.
• It is now also possible for accredited reviewers to put any article back into the New Pages Feed for re-review. The link is under 'Tools' in the side bar.

Reviewer Feedback

Would you like feedback on your reviews? Are you an experienced reviewer who can give feedback to other reviewers? If so there are two new feedback pilot programs. New Reviewer mentorship will match newer reviewers with an experienced reviewer with a new reviewer. The other program will be an occasional peer review cohort for moderate or experienced reviewers to give feedback to each other. The first cohort will launch November 13.

Second set of eyes

• Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work, especially while some routine tagging for deletion can still be carried out by non NPR holders and inexperienced users. Read about it at the Monitoring the system section in the tutorial. If you come across such editors doing good work, don't hesitate to encourage them to apply for NPR.
• Do be sure to have our talk page on your watchlist. There are often items that require reviewers' special attention, such as to watch out for pages by known socks or disruptive editors, technical issues and new developments, and of course to provide advice for other reviewers.

Arbitration Committee

The annual ArbCom election will be coming up soon. All eligible users will be invited to vote. While not directly concerned with NPR, Arbcom cases often lead back to notability and deletion issues and/or actions by holders of advanced user rights.

Community Wish list

There is to be no wish list for WMF encyclopedias this year. We thank Community Tech for their hard work addressing our long list of requirements which somewhat overwhelmed them last year, and we look forward to a successful completion.

Reviewer of the Year

This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.

Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.

Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.

Redirect autopatrol

A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.

Source Guide Discussion

Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). Please watch the New Page Patrol talk page for more information.

This month's refresher course

While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.

Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate

In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.

@KevinBartholomew: Read WP:42 and WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. You need reliable coverage of the individual episode somewhere. Just because other articles exist that don't meet that criteria doesn't mean you should create more. Many of those articles were created 15 years ago when standards were different and haven't been scrutinized since. Dextrose person

You know, I actually thought they might have a point for 5 seconds because I hadn't heard this fringe/conspiracy theory before... but then I spent about 5 minutes researching it... I'm not even sure they understand what they're saying - any "food allergy" in the traditional sense of the term (ex: peanut allergy) is a type 1 hypersensitivity which is an IgE mediated allergy.. so they're basically saying "people with corn allergy". Not to mention that dextrose by definition is just "dextrorotary glucose" (D-glucose), and that I can't find any record of an antibody response to a single hexose sugar anywhere. Hi, concerning the edit you reverted for lack of sources, I don't understand what sort of sources would be necessary in that case. What I wrote is the direct consequence of the opinion written by Neil Gorsuch, in which he describes the source of the problem being the differences marked by sex in what a person's sexual orientation means, and of the fact that bisexual people, regardless of their sex, are attracted to any human beings. Which one of these facts do you want me to source ? The former is quoted earlier in the article (I could add a re-use source I guess), and the latter is definitely in the article about bisexuality, which I integrated in my text edit, but I guess I could also find an external source for that too. I guess it's as much my interpretation as 4 is the interpretation of the concept of addition to 2 and 2. Isn't the fact that it's a direct consequence of the opinion he gave a sufficient obviousness to waive the need of sourcing it ? (that may sound like sarcasm but it's not) If that's not obvious enough, shouldn't the classification of certain political reactions in "pro" and "cons" categories be also subject to sourcing ? Shouldn't all the abridgment of previous SCOTUS decisions (and there are at least 3 in that particular article) be sourced too ? The term "LGBT" is not present in the opinion itself (not in any quoted part at least, but I doubt it's anywhere in it), so shouldn't the very presence of a "LGBT employment protections" section be sourced ? I guess the user who added it implied the LGBT being affected by the decision from their own interpretation, which in this case is in contradiction with the opinion itself, so... @Gouvernathor: You need a source. You yourself say that sources say that LGBT people are protected by this decision, you can't claim otherwise solely based on your own interpretation. You reverted some edits I made on the Transition Integrity Project page, and I hope you will restore them. You commented that I did not explain them adequately (I think i just said "reverted vandalism"). The page has been repeatedly vandalized by extremist right wing commentators (it has been controversial), who either provide no support for false assertions or who link to non-credible extremist media as their support for inaccurate characterizations. I am connected to the project and it has been subject to a targeted disinformation campaign. I am happy to have accurate information posted, but not false claims that are either supported by references that do no support what they are purported to support or that were themselves full of disinformation. Even the most basic information here is inaccurate: for instance, the Transition Integrity Project is not an "organization" at all; it was just a project, and has no "members." My recommendation is to separate changes due to inaccuracies from changes due to there being WP:UNDUE coverage of points of view or original research by the author of the content. Well, I mean, Bionicle was an incredibly popularly series when the toyline was first introduced. It’s not really that popular anymore, but I mean, Lloyd Garmadon from Ninjago for instance has his own individual character page, so I mean, I’m not sure.

Also not to mention that the page I made was not even close to being finished.

For Makuta though, in 2018, there was a Star Wars book that introduced a canon character known as “Makuta” that is named after the same one from Bionicle.

Obviously the Star Wars character is incredibly obscure and has barely any information regarding him, but I guess the fact that Star Wars has used the character as a reference could help?

Could you please look at recent edits by JewishLeftist and the discussion on an external site - where someone points out how "Sinophobia" will disappear due to vandalism by racists. An hour later, the user JewishLeftist vandalized the page by removing Sinophobia. This user has been banned for vandalism before and his edit history shows a grudge with the specific subreddit linked / Asian people in general. Even if Sinophobia does not belong on that page, this specific edit by this user at this time frame, combined with his history, and past ban of vandalism, shows that he is not being unbiased and is not editing in good faith. New Page Patrol December Newsletter

It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Hey, so I thought I'd post on your page about the List of fictional vegetarian characters page. I know you were the one who wanted to delete it back in early October, which was thwarted by a majority of those who responded. However, I'd just like to mention it because since then I did try to limit the criteria of the characters on the lists to protagonists or recurring characters. It actually has been helpful because there are a good number of characters who don't follow into those categories, which I'll add to my newly created Vegetarian characters in fiction. List of places named after William Birdwood

Hi Power~enwiki. I noticed that you recently turned List of places named after William Birdwood into a redirect to Birdwood. While I agree that it wasn't viable as a list article, I don't think it's viable as a redirect in this way, either. It implies that every place listed at Birdwood is named after William Birdwood (or this could at least easily be interpreted as such), while this is only the case for one place listed there (Birdwood, South Australia), plus Birdwoodton, Victoria in the See also. All the other places there have nothing to do with the man. As a result, the existence of the redirect isn't helpful for someone who wants to know which places were named after William Birdwood, unless they check the contents of every article listed. I think it would be much better to just list the few notable places named after him in the William Birdwood article, and make List of places named after William Birdwood redirect there. Do you agree? You can't claim people are part of a group (especially a group you claim is terrible and awful) without reliable sourcing. South African renamings

I agree with your comments on Talk:Port Elizabeth. Unfortunately, SA page renamings seem to have happened without following WP:OFFICIAL or WP:COMMONNAME. Grahamstown comes to mind. I was on the other side of renaming Bela Bela....I supported the page renaming some years back, but I suspect that Warmbaths remains the COMMONNAME. Places like Polokwane took a while to change until it was clear that they were in common use (after the World Cup and 2007 ANC elective conference) ...even then, it is unclear if Polokwane really is the most widely-used name locally, although it has taken over on WP:RS. Recent page renamings seem to be accelerated. The low number of editors on South African topics makes the problem more acute.Park3r (talk) 02:09, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

I appreciate the tightly reasoned close there. I was thinking of closing that one myself, since I hadn't participated in it. However, I think you missed a reasoning bit: "ml/L", whether some people like it or not, fails MOS:ARTCON, so it is not a viable option. It's no different from writing "US–Canadian relations in the 20th century have consistently been friendlier than U.S.–Mexico relations". It's actually worse, more like "the discrepancy between Canada–US/U.S.–Mexico relations". And it's actually worse in other ways, especially the fact that a case change can signal a change in base unit (e.g. kb = kilobit, KB = kilobyte; tsp = teaspoon, Tsp = tablespoon). While it might not be ISO and ANSI style, it is common. So mixing two abbreviations for "lit[re|er]" in the same construction verges on intentionally confusing to the overwhelming majority of readers who are in the class "non-experts on unit symbols". We have ARTCON for a reason, and as a general principle in the main MOS it takes precedence over lower-CONLEVEL nit-picking in MoS sub-guidelines (see fourth sentence of first lead paragraph at WP:MOS). Especially something that emerges from an RfC with only 20-odd participants, only four of whom mentioned consistency within an article (and only three of whom count, because the fourth pooh-poohed it in favor of an entirely bogus ENGVAR position). That is, the majority of the RfC respondents were not even aware of ARTCON's applicability – not aware that whatever they came up with in the RfC would need to comply with it. This is a common sort of problem in style RfCs, especially ones that involve topical specialization; they usually attract input mostly, even entirely, from people deeply absorbed in that topic and without a broad understanding of how their proposals interact with other WP:P&G material. While this is more often a problem with sports, entertainment, military history, and specific-sciences wikiprojects, this would not be the first time that MOS:NUM regulars have tried to enact something that directly conflicted with the main MoS and which had to be undone later.  — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼  03:27, 4 April 2021 (UTC)

Nobody mentioned ARTCON in the discussion; while I wasn't familiar with the acronym I was aware of the guidance against mixing style usages within an article. If "ml/L" is already prohibited by the style guideline, it shouldn't be relevant to the close text; I did not add any text regarding "consistency" to the style page as a result of the discussion, I simply didn't see consensus to add text explicitly forbidding that construction. On a township in Indiana

Leopold Township, Perry County, Indiana, a geographic entity in the US of "similar" prominence to Ağcakent, Aziziye. Leopold Township's article has minimal sourced content and substantial problems with being up-to-date: the most recent US census data for location and population, a local history book for one sentence on the name of the township, an unsourced list of cemeteries, a few external links (one of which now contains information in Spanish on asthma) and various higher-level divisions (school districts, state house seat data has been incorrect for ten years) that contain the township.
