TKS
These 6 TKS what were bought by Estonia were modified and not the same 1 to 1 Polish tankettes. The article should be separate from the Polish TJKS article. There were only 3 tanks types active in the Estonian army officially although several other types were used by the Estonian Legion and soldiers during the WW II among the Axis.
I will expand this article as soon as i get more books and data. The current article had to be translated ffrom my own native language and it took a bit time. Also im busy with the university - i can add more text and stuff with images on saturday and sudnay as during the week ive no time unfortunately. - Hi again! The funny thing is that both of the Khovanskys - Ivan Andreyevich and Ivan Nikitich - fought in this war. - Hi Piotr. Thank you for starting this article. I will have a better look at it later. I'm not just interested in the Eastern Front, but intend to document all its strategic, operational and some of the more important events in Wikipedia. The list for the first two categories currently runs to a couple of hundred articles of which some 40 are currently covered somewhat by Wikipedia.
- Your Dukla Pass article is a valuable addition to the understanding of the Red Army's East-Carpathian strategic offensive operation which included two operational operations: the Carpathian-Dukla offensive operation and the Carpathian-Uzhgorod offensive operation.
- My suggestion is that all articles need to give the reader a context in which the event took place. In this case the primary responsibility for the strategic offensive in the Carpathian Mountains was that of the 4th Ukrainian Front, and the Dukla Pass was one of six passes that were forced during the strategic offensive. The Dukla Pass was an important operation in that it sought to use surprise by employing forces of the 1st Ukrainian Front (left or southern "wing") and a rapid switch of troops from the southern "wing" of the 4th Ukrainian Front to the northern wing in the breakthrough at the neighbouring Lupkovsky Pass. However the Dukla Pass was not a success and the breakthrough came at the Uzhok and Veretsky passes in the directions of Uzhgorod and Mukachevo.
- The Krasno - Dukla - Krayna Polyana - Svidnik highway was the shortest route into Slovakia, but also a very difficult one. The opposition was also fairly good, consisting of many mountain units of
Armeegruppe “Heinrici” (Stab PzAOK 1).
- I think one of the problems I see immediately is that many of the mentions you made in the article refer to tactical objectives, but the formations in the Order of Battle are operational or strategic. As always a good map would help the reader, and we (there are several people working on the project) are going to be exploring different tools to generate good quality maps for the articles.
- Below is a suggested standard structure for article taxonomy based more on the military terminology, and incorporating a way of describing an event that follows a more military event structure.
- ‘’’Introductory briefing’’’ (unnamed) – a short, one paragraph of no more then seven average length sentences, description of the article addressing the question when, where, who, why, larger context, significance, and outcome.) I am re-starting my works on Wikipedia. Unfortunately I started with a mistake in a Category naming. I wrote "Historycal" instead of "Historical". I already fixed it changing to Category:Historical Polish coats of arms, but it is necessary to delete the Category:Historycal Polish coats of arms. Shame on me!
By the way, thank you for remember me in Christmas. I am going to take profit of your Coats of arms' pics in your gallery in Commons again.

Siege of Brest and Soviet unit naming conventions
Hi Piotrus. Good work on the Siege of Brest article. Just wanted you to know, as per some WPMILHIST discussions, the naming convention for Soviet units is now Xth Rifle Division (Soviet Union) or just simply Yth Self-Propelled Heavy Gun Regiment - no 'Soviet' in front - if it's a unique unit. Thanks for your encouragement re my work on the Kwapiński entry, which you began.
As you'll notice, I've since fixed up some of my errors errors and added a timeline. Your Katyn article, etc. have been helpful.
I'd like to do some more work on it before putting it out as T:TDYK. Although Wiki isn't suppose to include original research, it's hard to write something coherent without doing so. Western ignorance of Poland during the war is of course great. That includes me, until very recently. As a professonal researcher, I hope that this article will do something tiny to redress this epistemic injustice, which is linked to moral, political and historical injustices. (I don't wonder that counterfactual history is one of your interests.) As I'm in London often, I may try to find post war information on JK, incl. a visit to the embassy. I do hope that his last 19 yrs were not sad, that he had his family with him.
Personally, I have very little knowledge, and bare connection, re Poland. My late first wife was daughter of a Filanowicz, a family that had gone from the mines of Poland to those of Minnesota. One of our daughters married a Jankowski, whose father lived in Poland during the war. Why was I so pleased to find your JK stub? I'll now only hint: the Clipper.
Btw, here are some unrelated remarks re Wiki & JK:
- 1. I find that Wiki has lots of articles on 20th C Poland--notably re WWII. Could you, with your expertise, corral these into a common site?
- 2. I'm doubtful that the mayor of Lodz when the Wehrmacht arrived was in fact our JK, given the official bio. put out by the London Poles--hence of the photo. Also, the German Wiki gives that mayor an alias!
- 3. I adore Lem--thanks for the info. on his imaginary reviews. But I've found English transl. very hard to get. The Lem article fails to give the publishers of the ones that exist. Could you ask the person who works on the Lem to add these--or even ISBNs of them?
- 4. When I've done a bit more on the JK entry, I'll ask you to split the refs and fns, and to check it over, if you'd be so kind. I find Wiki's instructions here, as elsewhere, hard to find or bewildering. And I do have a day job.

Your photographs are getting better, but I notice that many suffer from low contrast. With a quick edit your pictures will look much better. I recommend using photoshop, but GIMP is free and almost as good for all but advanced users. With a couple minutes of tweaking the Curves on your image, I made the lighting much less flat.

Found a decent YouTube video that explains it in Photoshop. The curves command works nearly the same in GIMP. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORM6AZY19pw

Kwapiński entry (as a professor I favor keeping diacriticals in English Wiki texts)
Piotrus, thanks for your help on this--particularly your confirmation of his Lodz president position. Odd that the govt-in-exile bios excluded it. I hope to add something to his postwar account. I hope that that brave man survived psychologically. The 'Poland...1939-45' article is, as you suggest, the gateway. I'm considering a diagram that would show this, then link the many Wiki articles on persons & events, so that readers can find background and follow connections, acc. to interest. In that connection, your article on Katyn shows much work & is very well presented. With the film soon to get Ac. Award publicity, it's a good article to recommend for background.

Hi again. That pic of you in a żupan at your userpage got me to thinking, do you know of any images related to Polish traditional textiles that might become feature-worthy? Wikipedia:WikiProject Textile Arts is doing a featured portal drive and I've been doing a lot of image restorations lately. Drop me a link if you know of some images that have potential. Thanks much for your communication about my expansion of your valuable stub. I've added a bit more, re timeline & note on UNRRA flight on Boeing 314 Clipper (where he met my family), of which history seems ignorant. I like to think of JK's sitting in that wonderful luxury, after his trials in Europe. This includes images & links to images, including Polish children with UNRRA aid. I've not finished the refs/notes protocols, which I still find opaque. (However I have two conference addresses to write now.) Thanks for helpful info. about the mod. Poland organization that exists on Wiki. What I might attempt sometime is a two or three space graphic, a la Tufte, of the articles. I do hope in NYC & London to get more info. on the postwar Kwapinski. I appreciate the poignancy of your comment there. User:Avala and his Serbian POV misrepresentations on Kosovo's recognitoin by governments
Please consider taking interest in the deletorious and Wikipedia-damaging edits of User:Avala in the context of Kosovo's recognition by other governments. In a word, he surmises stances of individual pro-Serb politicians for official stances of countries, and portrays them as such. Any corrections of this OR are met from his side by wiley Wikipedia lingo accusing the others, including me, of vandalism. Some points of departure are: his talk page, my talk page, the history of the article about international reaction to Kosovo's independence proclamation, where he unfairly attempts to paint me as a vandal, by pasting a blanking vandalism warning on my talk page, after I and other editors have been removing his untrue portrayals of facts all day today. Surely he has contravened the 3RR rule by now, acting alone. He is an administrator on the Serb Wikipedia, and his guile and use of wikipedia bullshit to serve his own ends is especially galling. Ditto on Commons, where I know you don't have an Adminship, but are an active user, and could take part in respected discussion in the Village Pump on this subject (under 26 February 2008). - This user Mareklug, is throwing accusations at me for no apparent reason. I have sourced my edits and he removed them. I added to that article that one member of Bosnian tripartite presidency said Bosnia will not recognize Kosovo and then added that presiding member said presidency has reached consensus on this issue that Bosnia will not recognize Kosovo. User Mareklug removed these edits and said I was twisting truth even though there were and still are all the sources under references - International reaction to the 2008 Kosovo declaration of independence. I reverted his edits several times as blanking of sourced information is nr.1 on how to recognize vandalism list. I hope you will understand that this user hasn't been constructive and has tried to remove the sourced information without giving solid reason why, only by attacking me (even on national basis calling me Mr.Serb etc.). He claims my edits are untrue even though I gave three sources (third source is regarding Republika Srpska decision to block any recognition initiative) and removed them all. Now it's the question what we are looking for here - sourced information or removing content based on personal beliefs what the situation is like. --Avala (talk) 01:15, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

From my (very limited) reading on the subject, it seems that the entire war was just one battle. There was a long conflict between the families, yes, but not armed conflict. Piotrus, thanks for your recent grooming of the opening of this. Congratulations on your DYK award: Is it too late to put the article up for DYK? I've been slow off the mark there, since--as earlier noted--I've been working on the Blackfriars Street Bridge entry some more: adding photos, improving text--but then, as a hole was recently broken in its deck, discovered it, reported to city, bridge closed, tv interview etc.--while I'm writing an invited address elsewhere.

Piotrus (talk · contribs), I wish to complain against your apparent collaboration with Molobo (talk · contribs). I don't think that it is right for administrators to behave as you have done in the article Bloody_Sunday_(1939), or Morgenthau Plan for example. Molobos edits are heavily contested in the Morgenthau plan, see the article talk page, and you simply select to revert back to include all of Molobos edits. Thanks for shortening. It's only by the good luck of Ancestors.com making landing manifests available recently that I was able to identify JK on UNRRA flight. We now know from that that at 58 he was of medium height, had blue eyes and white hair (no wonder). Ironic that he states that he's not been in prison. I've been wondering if a light sepia tone to coarse-screen photo of him would improve it. Kwapiński interest
Though it take over six decades, it seems just that the activities of this brave man be helped out of obscurity by the little boy he sat on his lap during much of the Clipper flight from Trinidad to the UNRRA conference, because he reminded him of his grandson. Two years after release from Siberian prison, with years of bitter disappointment right ahead, that flight on the most luxurious airliner ever must have been something his mind went back to.
This little effort is made possible by the web: identifying him from the passenger manifest, then finding your stub already in place. I know little of Poland, but, given the ironic, continuing epistemological pincer attack on its history from west as well as east, the fifth Wikipedia principle should be invoked against the first, and I plan to do a bit more research. All this is part of a separate longer work, connected to that flight. Btw, its west Atlantic pilot turns out to be author of a book on Pan Am, Horace Brock, and I await my c. to see whether he mentions the flight. Thanks, Alethe (talk) 12:39, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Dear Piotrus, I see you recently posted a warning on my talk page for my posts on several discussion pages. Yes, I have been uncivil. I get irritated that there are users on Wikipedia how are blatantly pushing their POV. Worse, several of them appear to be cooperating in this effort. I am disappointed to see that others have found it necessary to file a complaint about you collaborating with Moloko, one of the more active POV pushers I have come across so far. I’ve been trying to do some work with my students, under Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects. Your Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/Piotrus_educational_boilerplate has been extremely useful (congratulations, very well done) and I was about to create a new page using Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/your_course_name. It was then that I noticed that there is no category associated with that page. I looked up an example (Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ENTO_431) and again no category.
My questions are:
Shouldn’t pages Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/your_course_name have a category?
If so, in your opinion, which one?
What relation should that category have with Category:Wikipedia_related_projects ?
Any thoughts you might have about this will be greatly appreciated. If this has been already discussed somewhere, please direct me to those discussions.

Another difference - we in English rarely ever submit entire papers, unless it is for publication. AK question
I have a little question involving syntax on the AK page. In English, should it be written "the AK" or just "AK"? Example: "General so-and-so became the head of AK in 19__" or "General so-and-so became the head of the AK in 19__". It seems the page currently lacks consistency. Ostap 02:41, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Re:Nazi-occupied or not title
If you want my opinion on this, I'd say I can't see it making any significant negative difference. It is out of line with the Estonia article, true, but two users on that page seem to prefer the new name, and presumably have a reason. Generally, if the title difference is insignificant and there is opposition to one, then you might as well go for the one with no opposition. I'd say on balance the new title might be safer, as the old one (and this may be behind the objection) omitted the "guilt" of Germany's famous rulers in the period while perhaps implying more significant Lithuanian "guilt". Fairly or unfairly, I think it may appear to some you were trying to push the latter if you insisted on the omission, now that it's been instituted, of "Nazi-occupied". - The thing you'd need to know is if the people with those articles on their watchlist would object. I'd venture to guess that because "Nazi-occupied" has been instituted, if you want to restore article conformity, your path of least resistance would probably be moving all the others. Just my guess. - I'll be honest, Piotrus, I went from not caring to opposing a return of the move to not caring again. Paul B made a good point on the talk page, though the talk page therafter still indicates there are concerns. My main thought is that if so many users don't like it, then why bother fussing? I'd like to say kudos to you, even though I disagreed with you on the interpretation of the source. Now that the question of OR is evidently resolved, I'm going my merry way again. But I wanted to let you know that your follow-through in posting Zuroff's response was appreciated and admired. Whatever the history may be there and on other articles (it's obvious even to an outsider that there is considerable bitterness on multiple sides on this talk page, and since it evidently crosses multiple articles and pre-existed my encounter with some of you at Sejny, I can't presume to know its origin), it speaks very well of your integrity. :) I hope you all find some path to amicable cooperation, as I can't imagine it's at all fun to work in such an emotionally charged environment. Regarding the death-camps/deathcams.org domains, while I dislike the concept of removing perfectly valid sources, we do have some issues that need to be hammered out before one or the other of those can be allowable.
Firstly, they both claim that the other is infringing on their copyrights. As we don't link to infringing material, without knowing which party is correct, we're unable to link to either source.
Secondly, they're wanting Wikipedia to be some sort of "Internet Court" and decide which of these are legal. Obviously, this is a bit outside our bailiwick.
Lastly, as this issue affects more than just English Wikipedia, I'd like to suggest that you start a meta:RFC page where all involved can discuss the issues. If you know of others that are affected by the decision, you may wish to involve them as well.

- Your idea works absolutely fine for me, Piotrus. I don't have any desire to ruin the pages, but I did see an issue with another user editing the page and discovering that they couldn't save due to an obscure bit of text that they may not be able to find. The cites are fine to recover as you see fit, though I might suggest that the uncited links at the bottoms of the pages be left alone until the parties involved get things ironed out.
- If you have any questions, again, please ask. I've noticed that some of our users (even admins!) are hesitant to ask when there is an OTRS ticket involved, as if it's some secret society of Wikipedia insiders: While I may not be able to relate the details of those tickets, I'll certainly try my best to make sure there's transparency in the process!
- Also, the talkpage add-a-section gadget? Um, thank you for the kind thoughts, but I think I'll pass for now. I did, however, remove the edit-box from my talkpage header. If anyone wants to edit it, they can peek at the page source to see where it's transcluded from: Either that or continue to confuse my visitors with the odd placement! - Yeah, I was as surprised as the next guy when I was pointed out that clause a while ago. I was even more surprised when I found out how many people it took for that clause to come into being. I do understand the intents behind the revision, and the only reason why I did not complain (apart from the lack of time) was because set index articles provided means to achieve pretty much the same result as dabs with red links had allowed for before the above MOSDAB revision. It is still highly annoying, though, especially considering how no one bothered to verify just how many pages would be harmed by overzealous dab-cleaners hell-bent on sticking to the letter of the guideline at the expense of everything else. Oh well... I'm going to leave the Górki situation to you (there's not much I could do beyond bringing the page to the attention of Polish editors anyway); I trust you'll take good care of it from now on. - It is, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to explain it to the "cleaners". This is probably the tenth or so time I run into a situation like this, and every time it takes days and kilobytes of explanations until the opponents finally "get it" or label me as a nasty case and leave.

Bot transfer of entities
Na razie bot ma przerwę - nie mam czasu zajmować się wszystkimi operacjami ręcznymi jakich ten proces wymaga. Będę próbować usprawnić bota tak, aby proces odbywał się bardziej automatycznie. Wówczas będzie można przenieść wsi z pozostałych województw (Dolnośląskie jest już zrobione, wszystkie polskie gminy są też, ale bez składowych wsi).
Mam jednak dalej idący pomysł - uważam że przydatna byłaby baza danych istniejąca poza konkretnymi językowymi wikipediami (coś w rodzaju commons), zawierająca dane liczbowe i inne strukturalne dotyczące poszczególnych osób, miejsc itd. To ułatwiłoby m.in. przenoszenie informacji między językami, a artykuły mogłyby zawierać informacje połączone z bazą, tak aby np. w przypadku śmierci danej osoby, nowych danych o liczbie mieszkańców itp. można raz zaktualizować bazę i artykuły we wszystkich językach byłyby zaktualizowane automatycznie. Nie wiesz przypadkiem czy coś takiego było kiedyś sugerowane? Gdzie najlepiej pójść z takim pomysłem? Zacząłem przygotowywać odpowiednią propozycję na User:Kotniski/wdb. Pope Pius XIII and Poland
Thanks fo your nice note on my talk page. I agree with many of your points on my start-up article. Regarding your main question: The Vatican of Pope Pius XII certainly did not ask Poland to give in to German demands. The Vatican position was clear on this: no mediation on border disputes by the Vatican unless both sides ask for it. However, the Vatican asked for flexibility of all sides to the effect, that a meeting of the five nations becomes possible, and thus war be avoided. Some of this stuff (starting with Puzyna) is really interesting, but deviates too far from the topic. Don't tempt me. -:)) Please feel free to contribute wihtin the context Pope Pius XII and Poland.

It works manually. It basically is a dressed up version of Misza13's statusswitcher.js. screenshot. It changes your /Status page for you and shows you what your Status page is (on every page). Piotrus, I don't think it's a good idea for you should be block-shopping so soon after having your 3RR block overturned. Whatever temporary victory that might bring, the sense of injustice created could not be good for wikipedia. Remember, the purpose of the arbitration was to defuse tension and promote co-operation. In future, could I suggest that if you are having problems with Lokyz or any other east-central European editor you talk to him/her about it first? That would look better, and thus be better, for reconciliation than appearing to stack diffs until any appropriate moment and then pouncing. - I have asked Lokyz to be more diplomatic in future, and will hope he recognizes its importance. In the link you supplied I see the normal bickering and banter on both sides. Reconciliation attempts that are carried out with the exclusive goal to show that the other party is in the wrong are bound to fail, as I'm sure you'd recognize. Jeśli faktycznie był oficjalnie liderem ZHR to według mnie może go to ratować. Problem w tym że nigdzie takiej informacji nie znalazłem. Gazeta.pl podaje, że "działał w harcerstwie, organizował obozy letnie" i to wszystko, żadnej wzmianki o pozycji lidera. Google też milczy. Moim zdaniem należałoby poprosić autora artykułu o źródło tej informacji i jeżeli okaże się, że takiego źródła nie ma albo popełniono błąd w tłumaczeniu, to artykuł nie spełnia wymogów WP:BIO i zdecydowanie AfD. W tym miejscu dość dawno pytałeś się o prawa autorskie do różnych kasowników, biletów, etc. NIe sądzę, by chodziło tu o jakiś konsensus wikipedystów, a o sprawę stosowania prawa, dlatego napiszę. Otóż
- po pierwsze nie stanowią przedmiotu prawa autorskiego (PD) materiały urzędowe. Materiałem urzędowym będzie zatem to, co pochodzi od urzędu lub innej instytucji państwowej, bądź dotyczy sprawy urzędowej, bądź powstało w rezultacie zastosowania procedury urzędowej (z wyroku SN) - więc te przedwojenne materiały także, o ile są urzędowe (dotyczyć to może samorządów, poczty, kolei państwowej, sądów, etc.), są PD.
- po drugie pod rządami ustaw z 1926, 1935 i 1952 nie stanowiły przedmiotu prawa autorskiego fotografie lub "utwory wykonane w sposób podobny do fotografii", co do których nie uwidoczniono zastrzeżenia o objęciu prawem autorskim i rokiem. O ile ustawa z 1952 mówi o "uwidocznieniu na utworze", gdzie uważa się, że wystarczy notka w książce, o tyle ustawy z 1926 i 1935 mówią o "wyraźnym uwidocznieniu na odbitkach". Należy też pamiętać, że obecne prawo autorskie jest retroaktywne, tzn. obejmuje ochroną 70-letnią dzieła po śmierci autora lub publikacji utworu anonimowego, które były chronione wcześniej, tzn. te, którym towarzyszyła nota copyrightowa.
- po trzecie A w odniesieniu do dzieł anonimowych majątkowe prawa autorskie wygasają 70 lat po pierwszym rozpowszechnieniu, chyba że podany pseudonim nie pozostawia wątpliwości, kim jest autor,
- po trzecie B majątkowe prawa autorskie wygasają 70 lat po pierwszym rozpowszechnieniu też wtedy, gdy prawa autorskie przysługiwałyby na podstawie dzisiejszej ustawy pracodawcy, gdyż utwór był stworzony w ramach stosunku pracy - w granicach wynikających z celu umowy o pracę i zgodnego zamiaru stron (czyli w ramach "normalnej" pracy, jaką wykonywał w danej firmie twórca)
- po czwarte jeszcze inaczej wygląda sprawa z zaborczym prawem autorskim obowiązującym do 1926 r., tutaj jest dość wyczerpujący artykuł na temat fotografii w tym prawie.
Także trzeba poszukać takich dzieł, które w którymś punkcie zakwalifikują się pod PD. Oczywiście z mojej strony nie jest to porada prawna, ale dobra rada. Pozdrawiam Adolf Warski (talk) 03:40, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

This is an interesting topic which would go way beyond this article. Winston Churchill, for example reports, that the the British guarantee for Poland covered its exisence and independence, but not its present borders. While he most definitely opposed German aspirations, brutalities and agression, he also whips Poland (specifically Foreign Minister Colonel Beck) in his memoirs, for first supporting the separation of Slovakia from Czecheslovakia, and, following this, the "shameful attitude towards the liquidation of the Czecheslovak State" and the annexation of Teschen, "for which they soon were to pay" (348) Therefore, there was sufficient confusion at the time regarding the concret meaning and content of these alliances, which, while truly intersting, extends beyond our article.(W. Churchill, The Gathering Storm, Prague, Albania and the Polish Guarantee, p.340 ff) What is your view?

Why are you calling in further Polish editors?
I thought we were having a constructive discussion at Talk:Bloody Sunday (1939). Now my watch-list just told me that you are involving further Polish editors.[5] Wouldn't the more proper approach have been to ask for a neutral 3rd party opinion instead if you were unhappy with where things were going, or at least to also ask at least one German editor with known interest in such topics to contribute?
