List of recipients of the Order of Industrial Heroism

Hi Andy, I wondered if you had any more information related to the list you have created at List of recipients of the Order of Industrial Heroism? It has produced over 80 links to disambig pages & there isn't really enough info to try to sort out the correct links.— Rod talk 08:29, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

@Rodw: Very little; I have:

  • notes (not to hand, so I can't tell you the name) on one recipient, whose biography I intend to write later
  • a reminder to myself to find a copy (second hand, or inter-library loan) of Fevyer, Wilson and Cribb, the source cited in the artice about the award.
  • the PDF document I cited in the list article
  • resigned disappointment that someone has already suggested that people who were given this significant award might not be notable

I suspect that, in most cases, we need a new, red link rather than a disambiguation link; hence my request for assistance.

Interestingly, the subjects are largely working class people (e.g. coal miners dockers, train drivers), whose under-representation as a group is another facet of our systemic bias. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 18:32, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

  • I have moved this article to Draft:List of recipients of the Order of Industrial Heroism, as it clearly more incorrect than correct. In addition to the large number of disambiguation links, many of the links to individual articles are to subjects that are highly unlikely to be the intended target of the link. bd2412 T 20:15, 19 May 2019 (UTC)
    • I see that you have moved this list back to mainspace. Since it is, in its current state, complete garbage, I have nominated it for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of recipients of the Order of Industrial Heroism. bd2412 T 20:42, 19 May 2019 (UTC)
      • How petty. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:23, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
        • I'm sorry you feel that way, but the list really is below the standards of an encyclopedia. The move to draft was an attempt to provide an opportunity to salvage it, but apparently it can't be made any better. bd2412 T 13:19, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
          • Don't apolgies for what you perceive to be my feelings. Your claim that the list "can't be made any better" is as false as your claim that none of the links were valid; and your claim that "no information at all can be found" about one of its members. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:35, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
            • I apologize for my lax use of words. I meant that no information supporting an encyclopedia article on the subject can be found. The list has indeed been made better, as there are now five legitimate blue links rather than four. However, the list can't be made encyclopedic by this step, nor by the addition of unreliable sources such as a town "guestbook" that apparently anyone can edit, an apparently self-published family genealogy, or commercial catalogs for the auction of medals. bd2412 T 15:54, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

GLAM help request: Pritzker Military Museum & Library

Can you help update the Pritzker Military Museum & Library's article? It has a lot of items that need updating, especially the new CEO. Relevant articles include:

Thanks for your help! TeriEmbrey (talk) 21:18, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

@TeriEmbrey: I've added the publications; others have beaten me to the rest. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:10, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

AA color contrast ratio

In 2015, you added "ensure AAA color contrast ratio" to the musical genre infobox template.[9] Can you change that to AA instead of AAA? The AA level of conformance is a ratio of 4.5:1 which "should" be followed by Wikipedia, whereas the AAA level is 7:1 and is optional. People with 20/80 vision are the ones addressed by the AAA level,[10] but such people are usually using a form of vision correction when they are perusing Wikipedia, which is why the 7:1 ratio is optional. Binksternet (talk) 14:26, 1 June 2019 (UTC)

Why would we reduce the accessibility of Wikipedia? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:35, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

Adding TfD notice

The page Template:Infobox_Palestine_municipality is edit-protected, could you add

{{Template for discussion/dated|action=|page=Infobox Palestine municipality|link=Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2019 June 6#Template:Infobox Palestine municipality|type=sidebar|bigbox={{#invoke:Noinclude|noinclude|text=yes}}}}

to it? 77.183.60.95 (talk) 21:30, 6 June 2019 (UTC)

  Guideline and policy news

  • An RfC seeks to clarify whether WP:OUTING should include information on just the English Wikipedia or any Wikimedia project.
  • An RfC on WT:RfA concluded that Requests for adminship and bureaucratship are discussions seeking to build consensus.
  • An RfC proposal to make the templates for discussion (TfD) process more like the requested moves (RM) process, i.e. "as a clearinghouse of template discussions", was closed as successful.

  Technical news

  • The CSD feature of Twinkle now allows admins to notify page creators of deletion if the page had not been tagged. The default behavior matches that of tagging notifications, and replaces the ability to open the user talk page upon deletion. You can customize which criteria receive notifications in your Twinkle preferences: look for Notify page creator when deleting under these criteria.
  • Twinkle's d-batch (batch delete) feature now supports deleting subpages (and related redirects and talk pages) of each page. The pages will be listed first but use with caution! The und-batch (batch undelete) option can now also restore talk pages.
